9 耶稣叫齐了十二个门徒，给他们能力、权柄制伏一切的鬼，医治各样的病， 2 又差遣他们去宣传神国的道、医治病人， 3 对他们说：“行路的时候不要带拐杖和口袋，不要带食物和银子，也不要带两件褂子。 4 无论进哪一家，就住在那里，也从那里起行。 5 凡不接待你们的，你们离开那城的时候，要把脚上的尘土跺下去，见证他们的不是。” 6 门徒就出去，走遍各乡宣传福音，到处治病。
7 分封的王希律听见耶稣所做的一切事，就游移不定，因为有人说是约翰从死里复活， 8 又有人说是以利亚显现，还有人说是古时的一个先知又活了。 9 希律说：“约翰我已经斩了，这却是什么人，我竟听见他这样的事呢？”就想要见他。

10 使徒回来，将所做的事告诉耶稣。耶稣就带他们暗暗地离开那里，往一座城去，那城名叫伯赛大。 11 但众人知道了，就跟着他去。耶稣便接待他们，对他们讲论神国的道，医治那些需医的人。 12 日头快要平西，十二个门徒来对他说：“请叫众人散开，他们好往四面乡村里去借宿找吃的，因为我们这里是野地。” 13 耶稣说：“你们给他们吃吧！”门徒说：“我们不过有五个饼、两条鱼，若不去为这许多人买食物就不够。” 14 那时人数约有五千。耶稣对门徒说：“叫他们一排一排地坐下，每排大约五十个人。” 15 门徒就如此行，叫众人都坐下。 16 耶稣拿着这五个饼、两条鱼，望着天祝福，掰开，递给门徒，摆在众人面前。 17 他们就吃，并且都吃饱了。把剩下的零碎收拾起来，装满了十二篮子。
认耶稣为基督
18 耶稣自己祷告的时候，门徒也同他在那里。耶稣问他们说：“众人说我是谁？” 19 他们说：“有人说是施洗的约翰，有人说是以利亚，还有人说是古时的一个先知又活了。” 20 耶稣说：“你们说我是谁？”彼得回答说：“是神所立的基督。” 21 耶稣切切地嘱咐他们，不可将这事告诉人。
预言受难
22 又说：“人子必须受许多的苦，被长老、祭司长和文士弃绝，并且被杀，第三日复活。”
当背十架跟从主
23 耶稣又对众人说：“若有人要跟从我，就当舍己，天天背起他的十字架来跟从我。 24 因为凡要救自己生命[a]的，必丧掉生命；凡为我丧掉生命的，必救了生命。 25 人若赚得全世界，却丧了自己、赔上自己，有什么益处呢？ 26 凡把我和我的道当做可耻的，人子在自己的荣耀里，并天父与圣天使的荣耀里降临的时候，也要把那人当做可耻的。 27 我实在告诉你们：站在这里的，有人在没尝死味以前，必看见神的国。”
改变相貌
28 说了这话以后约有八天，耶稣带着彼得、约翰、雅各上山去祷告。 29 正祷告的时候，他的面貌就改变了，衣服洁白放光。 30 忽然，有摩西、以利亚两个人同耶稣说话， 31 他们在荣光里显现，谈论耶稣去世的事，就是他在耶路撒冷将要成的事。 32 彼得和他的同伴都打盹，既清醒了，就看见耶稣的荣光，并同他站着的那两个人。 33 二人正要和耶稣分离的时候，彼得对耶稣说：“夫子，我们在这里真好！可以搭三座棚：一座为你，一座为摩西，一座为以利亚。”他却不知道所说的是什么。 34 说这话的时候，有一朵云彩来遮盖他们。他们进入云彩里就惧怕。 35 有声音从云彩里出来，说：“这是我的儿子，我所拣选的[b]，你们要听他！” 36 声音住了，只见耶稣一人在那里。当那些日子，门徒不提所看见的事，一样也不告诉人。

37 第二天，他们下了山，就有许多人迎见耶稣。 38 其中有一人喊叫说：“夫子！求你看顾我的儿子，因为他是我的独生子。 39 他被鬼抓住就忽然喊叫，鬼又叫他抽风，口中流沫，并且重重地伤害他，难以离开他。 40 我求过你的门徒把鬼赶出去，他们却是不能。” 41 耶稣说：“唉！这又不信又悖谬的世代啊，我在你们这里，忍耐你们要到几时呢？将你的儿子带到这里来吧！” 42 正来的时候，鬼把他摔倒，叫他重重地抽风。耶稣就斥责那污鬼，把孩子治好了，交给他父亲。 43 众人都诧异神的大能[c]。
人子将要被交
耶稣所做的一切事，众人正稀奇的时候，耶稣对门徒说： 44 “你们要把这些话存在耳中，因为人子将要被交在人手里。” 45 他们不明白这话，意思乃是隐藏的，叫他们不能明白，他们也不敢问这话的意思。
议论谁将为大
46 门徒中间起了议论：谁将为大。 47 耶稣看出他们心中的议论，就领一个小孩子来，叫他站在自己旁边， 48 对他们说：“凡为我名接待这小孩子的，就是接待我；凡接待我的，就是接待那差我来的。你们中间最小的，他便为大。”
49 约翰说：“夫子，我们看见一个人奉你的名赶鬼，我们就禁止他，因为他不与我们一同跟从你。” 50 耶稣说：“不要禁止他，因为不敌挡你们的，就是帮助你们的。”
撒马利亚人不接待主
51 耶稣被接上升的日子将到，他就定意向耶路撒冷去， 52 便打发使者在他前头走。他们到了撒马利亚的一个村庄，要为他预备。 53 那里的人不接待他，因他面向耶路撒冷去。 54 他的门徒雅各、约翰看见了，就说：“主啊，你要我们吩咐火从天上降下来烧灭他们，像以利亚所做的[d]吗？” 55 耶稣转身责备两个门徒，说：“你们的心如何，你们并不知道。 56 人子来不是要灭人的性命[e]，是要救人的性命。”说着就往别的村庄去了。[f]

9 예수님은 열두 제자를 불러모으시고 모든 귀신을 쫓아내고 병을 고치는 능 력과 권능을 그들에게 주셨다.
2 그리고 예수님은 하나님의 나라를 전파하고 병든 자를 고치라고 그들을 내보내시며
3 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “너희는 여행을 위해서 아무것도 가지고 가지 말아라. 지팡이나 가방이나 식량이나 돈이나 여분의 옷을 가지고 가지 말아라.
4 어느 집에 들어가든지 그 곳을 떠날 때까지 거기서 머물러라.
5 만일 사람들이 너희를 영접하지 않거든 그 마을을 떠날 때 신발에 묻은 먼지를 떨어 그들에 대한 증거를 삼아라.”
6 그래서 제자들은 나가서 여러 마을을 돌아다니며 기쁜 소식을 전하고 가는 곳마다 병을 고쳐 주었다.
베드로의 신앙 고백
7 한편 헤롯왕은 예수님이 행하신 일로 떠도는 소문을 듣고 몹시 당황하였다. 이것은 죽은 요한이 다시 살아났다고 말하는 사람도 있고
8 엘리야가 나타났다고 말하는 사람도 있으며 또 옛 예언자 중 하나가 살아났다고 말하는 사람도 있었기 때문이었다.
9 그러나 헤롯은 “내가 분명히 요한의 목을 베었다. 그렇다면 소문에 들리는 이 사람은 도대체 누굴까?” 하고 예수님을 보고자 하였다.
10 사도들이 돌아와 자기들이 한 모든 일을 예수님께 보고하자 예수님은 그들을 데리고 따로 벳새다라는 마을로 가셨다.
11 그러나 군중들은 예수님의 일행이 떠난 것을 알고 뒤따라왔다. 예수님은 그들을 기꺼이 맞아 하나님의 나라에 대하여 말씀해 주시고 병자들도 고쳐 주셨다.
12 날이 저물자 열두 제자가 예수님께 와서 “사람들을 가까운 마을로 보내 숙소도 찾고 음식도 사 먹게 하십시오. 여기는 벌판입니다” 하고 말하였다.
13 예수님이 제자들에게 “너희가 그들에게 먹을 것을 주어라” 하시자 제자들이 “우리에게는 빵 다섯 개와 물고기 두 마리뿐인데 먹을 것을 사오지 않고 어떻게 이 많은 사람들을 다 먹이란 말씀입니까?” 하였다.
14 모인 군중은 남자만 약 5,000명이었다. 예수님이 제자들에게 사람들을 약 50명씩 떼지어 앉게 하라고 말씀하시자
15 제자들이 시키는 대로 하여 사람들이 모두 앉았다.
16 예수님은 빵 다섯 개와 물고기 두 마리를 받아 들고 하늘을 우러러 감사 기도를 드리신 다음 떼어서 제자들에게 주시며 사람들 앞에 갖다 놓게 하였다.
17 그래서 그들은 모두 실컷 먹고 남은 조각을 열두 광주리나 거뒀다.
18 어느 날 예수님이 혼자 기도하고 계시는데 제자들이 찾아왔다. 그때 예수님이 그들에게 “사람들이 나를 누구라고 하느냐?” 하고 물으셨다.
19 그러자 제자들이 “어떤 사람은 [a]세례 요한이라 하고 어떤 사람은 엘리야라고 하며 또 어떤 사람은 옛 예언자들 중 한 사람이 살아났다고 말하기도 합니다” 하고 대답하였다.
20 “그러면 너희는 나를 누구라고 생각하느냐?” 하고 예수님이 다시 물으시자 베드로가 “하나님의 [b]그리스도이십니다” 하고 대답하였다.
21 예수님은 제자들에게 이 말을 아무에게도 하지 말라고 단단히 주의시키시고
22 이어서 “[c]나는 장로들과 대제사장들과 [d]율법학자들에게 많은 고난을 받고 죽음을 당했다가 3일 만에 다시 살아나야 한다” 하고 말씀하셨다.
23 그러고서 예수님은 모든 사람에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “누구든지 나를 따라오려거든 자기를 버리고 날마다 제 십자가를 지고 나를 따르라.
24 자기 생명을 구하고자 하는 사람은 잃을 것이며 나를 위해 자기 생명을 버리는 사람은 얻을 것이다.
25 사람이 온 세상을 얻고도 [e]자기 생명을 잃거나 빼앗기면 무슨 유익이 있겠느냐?
26 누구든지 나와 내 말을 부끄러워하면 [f]나도 내 영광과 아버지와 거룩한 천사들의 영광으로 올 때 그를 부끄럽게 여길 것이다.
27 내가 분명히 말해 둔다. 여기 서 있는 사람들 가운데 죽기 전에 하나님의 나라를 볼 사람들도 있을 것이다.”
영광을 입으신 예수님
28 이 말씀을 하시고 8일쯤 지나 예수님은 베드로와 요한과 야고보를 데리고 기도하러 산으로 올라가셨다.
29 그런데 기도하시는 동안 예수님의 얼굴 모습이 변하고 그의 옷이 희어져 눈부시게 빛났다.
30 그때 두 사람이 예수님과 이야기를 하고 있었는데 그들은 모세와 엘리야였다.
31 그들은 영광스러운 모습으로 나타나 장차 예수님이 예루살렘에서 돌아가시게 될 것을 말하였다.
32 그때 졸고 있던 베드로와 다른 제자들이 정신을 차려 보니 예수님의 영광의 광채가 보이고 두 사람이 예수님과 함께 서 있었다.
33 두 사람이 떠나려 하자 베드로가 예수님께 “주님, 우리가 여기 있는 것이 좋겠습니다. 우리가 이 곳에 천막 셋을 세워 주님과 모세와 엘리야를 각각 모시겠습니다” 하고 말하였다. 그러나 그는 자기가 무슨 말을 하는지조차 몰랐다.
34 베드로가 이 말을 하고 있을 때 구름이 와서 그들을 덮었다. 그들이 구름에 휩싸여 무서워하고 있는데
35 구름 속에서 “이 사람은 내가 택한 내 아들이다. 너희는 그의 말을 들어라” 하는 음성이 들려왔다.
36 그 음성이 그친 후에는 예수님 한 분밖에 보이지 않았다. 제자들은 침묵을 지키고 그 때에는 그들이 본 것을 아무에게도 말하지 않았다.
예수님이 산에서 내려오심
37 이튿날 그들이 산에서 내려오자 많은 군중이 예수님을 맞이하였다.
38 그때 그들 중에 한 사람이 이렇게 외쳤다. “선생님, 제 아들을 좀 봐 주십시오. 하나밖에 없는 아들입니다.
39 귀신이 그를 붙잡기만 하면 그가 갑자기 소리를 지릅니다. 귀신은 그에게 발작을 일으켜 거품을 내게 하고 몸에 상처를 입히고서야 겨우 떠나갑니다.
40 그래서 선생님의 제자들에게 귀신을 쫓아내 달라고 간청했으나 쫓아내지 못했습니다.”
41 그러자 예수님은 “믿음이 없고 비뚤어진 세대여, 내가 언제까지 너희와 함께 있어야 하며 너희를 보고 참아야 하겠느냐?” 하시고 [g]그 사람에게 “네 아들을 이리 데려오너라” 하고 말씀하셨다.
42 아이가 오고 있는 동안에도 귀신은 그를 거꾸러뜨려 발작을 일으켜 놓았다. 그러나 예수님이 더러운 귀신을 꾸짖어 아이를 낫게 하신 후 그의 아버지에게 돌려 주시자
43 사람들이 다 하나님의 위대하심에 놀라 감탄하였다. 예수님이 하신 모든 일을 보고 사람들이 다 놀라고 있을 때 예수님이 제자들에게
44 “이 말을 귀담아 들어라. [h]나는 머지않아 사람들의 손에 넘어가게 될 것이다” 하고 말씀하셨다.
45 그러나 이 말씀의 뜻이 숨겨져서 제자들은 깨닫기는커녕 묻기조차 두려워하였다.
46 제자들 사이에 누가 가장 위대하냐는 문제로 말다툼이 벌어졌다.
47 예수님은 그들의 생각을 아시고 한 어린 아이를 데려다가 곁에 세우고
48 제자들에게 말씀하셨다. “누구든지 내 이름으로 이런 어린 아이를 영접하면 곧 나를 영접하는 것이며 누구든지 나를 영접하면 바로 나를 보내신 분을 영접하는 것이다. 너희 중에 가장 작은 사람이 가장 위대한 사람이다.”
49 요한이 예수님께 “주님, 우리를 따르지 않는 어떤 사람이 주님의 이름으로 귀신을 쫓아내기에 우리가 그렇게 못하도록 했습니다” 하고 말하자
50 예수님이 그에게 “막지 말아라. 너희를 반대하지 않는 사람은 너희를 위하는 사람이다” 하고 말씀하셨다.
51 예수님은 하늘로 올라가실 때가 가까워지자 예루살렘으로 갈 것을 굳게 결심하시고
52 사자들을 앞서 보내셨다. 그들은 가다가 예수님을 위해 준비하려고 사마리아 사람의 마을로 들어갔다.
53 그러나 그 마을 사람들은 예수님이 예루살렘을 향해 가시는 길이었기 때문에 그를 영접하지 않았다.
54 야고보와 요한은 이것을 보고 예수님께 “주님, [i]하늘에서 불을 내려다가 이 사람들을 태워 버리는 것이 어떻겠습니까?” 하고 물었으나
55 [j]예수님은 그들을 꾸짖으시고
56 함께 다른 마을로 가셨다.
57 그들이 가는 도중에 어떤 사람이 예수님께 와서 “저는 선생님이 어디로 가시든지 따라가겠습니다” 하였다.
58 그래서 예수님은 그에게 “여우도 굴이 있고 공중의 새도 보금자리가 있으나 나는 머리 둘 곳이 없다” 하고 말씀하셨다.
59 예수님이 또 다른 사람에게 “나를 따르라” 하고 말씀하시자 그는 “먼저 제 아버지의 장례를 치르도록 허락해 주십시오” 하였다.
60 그러나 예수님은 그에게 “죽은 사람의 장례는 [k]영적으로 죽은 사람들이 하게 버려 두고 너는 가서 하나님의 나라를 전파하라” 하고 말씀하셨다.
61 또 다른 사람이 “제가 주님을 따르겠습니다. 그러나 먼저 가족에게 작별 인사를 하게 해 주십시오” 하자
62 예수님은 그에게 “쟁기를 잡고 뒤를 돌아보는 사람은 하나님의 나라에 적당치 않다” 하고 말씀하셨다.

14 For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company.
15 And they did so, and made them all sit down.
16 Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude.
17 And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets.
18 And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am?
19 They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again.
20 He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God.
21 And he straitly charged them, and commanded them to tell no man that thing;
22 Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.
23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?
26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.
27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.
28 And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray.
29 And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.
30 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias:
31 Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.
32 But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him.
33 And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said.
34 While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud.
35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.
36 And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.
37 And it came to pass, that on the next day, when they were come down from the hill, much people met him.
38 And, behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee, look upon my son: for he is mine only child.
39 And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him.
40 And I besought thy disciples to cast him out; and they could not.
41 And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither.
42 And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father.
43 And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples,
44 Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men.
45 But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying.
46 Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest.
47 And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child, and set him by him,
48 And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.
49 And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us.
50 And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.
51 And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,
52 And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him.
53 And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem.

And they said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless we go and buy food for all these people.” 14 For there were about five thousand men.
Then He said to His disciples, “Make them sit down in groups of fifty.” 15 And they did so, and made them all sit down.
16 Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He (Q)blessed and broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the multitude. 17 So they all ate and were [a]filled, and twelve baskets of the leftover fragments were taken up by them.
Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ(R)
18 (S)And it happened, as He was alone praying, that His disciples joined Him, and He asked them, saying, “Who do the crowds say that I am?”
19 So they answered and said, (T)“John the Baptist, but some say Elijah; and others say that one of the old prophets has risen again.”
20 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
(U)Peter answered and said, “The Christ of God.”
Jesus Predicts His Death and Resurrection(V)
21 (W)And He strictly warned and commanded them to tell this to no one, 22 saying, (X)“The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.”
Take Up the Cross and Follow Him(Y)
23 (Z)Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross [b]daily, and follow Me. 24 (AA)For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. 25 (AB)For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost? 26 (AC)For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be (AD)ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels. 27 (AE)But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the kingdom of God.”
Jesus Transfigured on the Mount(AF)
28 (AG)Now it came to pass, about eight days after these sayings, that He took Peter, John, and James and went up on the mountain to pray. 29 As He prayed, the appearance of His face was altered, and His robe became white and glistening. 30 And behold, two men talked with Him, who were (AH)Moses and (AI)Elijah, 31 who appeared in glory and spoke of His [c]decease which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 But Peter and those with him (AJ)were heavy with sleep; and when they were fully awake, they saw His glory and the two men who stood with Him. 33 Then it happened, as they were parting from Him, that Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three [d]tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said.
34 While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were fearful as they entered the (AK)cloud. 35 And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, (AL)“This is [e]My beloved Son. (AM)Hear Him!” 36 When the voice had ceased, Jesus was found alone. (AN)But they kept quiet, and told no one in those days any of the things they had seen.
A Boy Is Healed(AO)
37 (AP)Now it happened on the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, that a great multitude met Him. 38 Suddenly a man from the multitude cried out, saying, “Teacher, I implore You, look on my son, for he is my only child. 39 And behold, a spirit seizes him, and he suddenly cries out; it convulses him so that he foams at the mouth; and it departs from him with great difficulty, bruising him. 40 So I implored Your disciples to cast it out, but they could not.”
41 Then Jesus answered and said, “O [f]faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you and [g]bear with you? Bring your son here.” 42 And as he was still coming, the demon threw him down and convulsed him. Then Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, healed the child, and gave him back to his father.
Jesus Again Predicts His Death(AQ)
43 And they were all amazed at the majesty of God.
But while everyone marveled at all the things which Jesus did, He said to His disciples, 44 (AR)“Let these words sink down into your ears, for the Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men.” 45 (AS)But they did not understand this saying, and it was hidden from them so that they did not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask Him about this saying.
Who Is the Greatest?(AT)
46 (AU)Then a dispute arose among them as to which of them would be greatest. 47 And Jesus, (AV)perceiving the thought of their heart, took a (AW)little child and set him by Him, 48 and said to them, (AX)“Whoever receives this little child in My name receives Me; and (AY)whoever receives Me (AZ)receives Him who sent Me. (BA)For he who is least among you all will be great.”
Jesus Forbids Sectarianism(BB)
49 (BC)Now John answered and said, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow with us.”
50 But Jesus said to him, “Do not forbid him, for (BD)he who is not against [h]us is on [i]our side.”
A Samaritan Village Rejects the Savior
51 Now it came to pass, when the time had come for (BE)Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem, 52 and sent messengers before His face. And as they went, they entered a village of the Samaritans, to prepare for Him. 53 But (BF)they did not receive Him, because His face was set for the journey to Jerusalem. 54 And when His disciples (BG)James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, [j]just as (BH)Elijah did?”
55 But He turned and rebuked them, [k]and said, “You do not know what manner of (BI)spirit you are of. 56 [l]For (BJ)the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them.” And they went to another village.
The Cost of Discipleship(BK)
57 (BL)Now it happened as they journeyed on the road, that someone said to Him, “Lord, I will follow You wherever You go.”
58 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man (BM)has nowhere to lay His head.”
59 (BN)Then He said to another, “Follow Me.”
But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”
60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God.”
61 And another also said, “Lord, (BO)I will follow You, but let me first go and bid them farewell who are at my house.”
62 But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is (BP)fit for the kingdom of God.”
