8 過了不多日,耶穌周遊各城各鄉傳道,宣講神國的福音。和他同去的有十二個門徒, 2 還有被惡鬼所附、被疾病所累已經治好的幾個婦女,內中有稱為抹大拉的馬利亞,曾有七個鬼從她身上趕出來, 3 又有希律的家宰苦撒的妻子約亞拿,並蘇撒拿和好些別的婦女,都是用自己的財物供給耶穌和門徒。
撒種的比喻
4 當許多人聚集,又有人從各城裡出來見耶穌的時候,耶穌就用比喻說: 5 「有一個撒種的出去撒種。撒的時候,有落在路旁的,被人踐踏,天上的飛鳥又來吃盡了。 6 有落在磐石上的,一出來就枯乾了,因為得不著滋潤。 7 有落在荊棘裡的,荊棘一同生長,把它擠住了。 8 又有落在好土裡的,生長起來,結實百倍。」耶穌說了這些話,就大聲說:「有耳可聽的,就應當聽!」
解明撒種的比喻
9 門徒問耶穌說:「這比喻是什麼意思呢?」 10 他說:「神國的奧祕只叫你們知道,至於別人,就用比喻,叫他們『看也看不見,聽也聽不明』。 11 這比喻乃是這樣:種子就是神的道。 12 那些在路旁的,就是人聽了道,隨後魔鬼來,從他們心裡把道奪去,恐怕他們信了得救。 13 那些在磐石上的,就是人聽道,歡喜領受,但心中沒有根,不過暫時相信,及至遇見試煉就退後了。 14 那落在荊棘裡的,就是人聽了道,走開以後,被今生的思慮、錢財、宴樂擠住了,便結不出成熟的子粒來。 15 那落在好土裡的,就是人聽了道,持守在誠實善良的心裡,並且忍耐著結實。
16 「沒有人點燈用器皿蓋上或放在床底下,乃是放在燈臺上,叫進來的人看見亮光。 17 因為掩藏的事沒有不顯出來的,隱瞞的事沒有不露出來被人知道的。 18 所以,你們應當小心怎樣聽。因為凡有的,還要加給他;凡沒有的,連他自以為有的也要奪去。」

19 耶穌的母親和他弟兄來了,因為人多,不得到他跟前。 20 有人告訴他說:「你母親和你弟兄站在外邊,要見你。」 21 耶穌回答說:「聽了神之道而遵行的人,就是我的母親、我的弟兄了。」
平靜風和海
22 有一天,耶穌和門徒上了船,對門徒說:「我們可以渡到湖那邊去。」他們就開了船。 23 正行的時候,耶穌睡著了。湖上忽然起了暴風,船將滿了水,甚是危險。 24 門徒來叫醒了他,說:「夫子!夫子!我們喪命啦!」耶穌醒了,斥責那狂風大浪,風浪就止住,平靜了。 25 耶穌對他們說:「你們的信心在哪裡呢?」他們又懼怕又稀奇,彼此說:「這到底是誰?他吩咐風和水,連風和水也聽從他了!」
鬼入豬群

醫患血漏的女人

撒種的比喻
8 此後,耶穌到各城鎮去傳揚上帝國的福音。同行的有十二使徒, 2 還有幾個曾被邪靈和疾病纏身、現在已被醫治的婦女。其中有抹大拉的瑪麗亞,耶穌曾經從她身上趕出七個鬼, 3 還有希律的管家苦撒的妻子約亞娜,此外還有蘇珊娜等其他婦女。她們用自己的錢財資助耶穌和門徒。
4 那時,人群絡繹不絕地從各地聚集到耶穌面前,耶穌用比喻教導他們,說: 5 「有一個農夫到田裡撒種,有些種子落在路旁,被人踐踏,又被飛鳥吃掉了; 6 有些落在蓋著淺土的石頭地上,因水分不足,幼苗剛長出來就枯萎了; 7 有些落在荊棘叢中,荊棘長起來便把幼苗擠住了; 8 有些落在沃土裡,發芽生長,結出百倍的果實。」耶穌講完這番話後,高聲說:「有耳可聽的,就要留心聽。」

點燈的比喻
16 「沒有人點了燈,卻用器皿把它蓋起來或放到床底下,而是放在燈臺上,使進來的人能見到光。 17 掩蓋的事終會暴露出來,隱藏的秘密終會被人知道。 18 因此,你們要留心聽,因為凡有的,還要給他更多;凡沒有的,連他自以為已經擁有的也要被奪去。」
耶穌的親屬
19 這時,耶穌的母親和兄弟來找祂,由於人太多,他們無法靠近耶穌, 20 有人就對祂說:「你的母親和兄弟在外面想見你。」 21 耶穌卻說:「聽見上帝的話語並遵行的人就是我的母親、我的弟兄。」
平靜風浪
22 有一天,耶穌對門徒說:「我們到湖的對岸去吧。」於是他們坐船前往對岸。 23 途中耶穌睡著了。不料湖上忽然狂風大作,船灌滿了水,非常危險。 24 門徒過來喚醒耶穌,說:「主啊,主啊!我們快淹死了!」
耶穌醒來,就斥責風浪,頓時風平浪靜了。
25 耶穌對他們說:「你們的信心在哪裡呢?」
門徒又驚又怕,彼此議論說:「祂究竟是誰?一發命令,連風浪都聽祂的!」
格拉森趕鬼
26 他們渡過加利利湖,到了格拉森地區。 27 耶穌上岸後,迎面遇見當地一個被鬼附身的人。那人長期赤身露體,不住在房屋裡,只住在墓穴中。 28 他一見到耶穌,就仆倒在祂面前,高聲喊叫:「至高上帝的兒子耶穌,我和你有什麼關係?求求你,不要折磨我!」 29 這是因為耶穌已命令污鬼離開那人。那人多次被污鬼操縱,人們用鐵鏈腳鐐把他鎖起來看管,他竟把鎖鏈也扯斷,被鬼催逼到荒野。
30 耶穌問他:「你叫什麼名字?」
他說:「我叫『群』。」因為有一大群鬼附在那人身上。 31 鬼不斷央求耶穌不要叫牠們到無底坑去。
32 當時有一大群豬在附近山坡上覓食,污鬼就央求耶穌准許牠們進入豬群,耶穌答應了。 33 於是那群鬼便離開那人,進入豬群。那群豬就一路奔下陡坡,衝進湖裡淹死了。 34 放豬的人見此情形拔腿就跑,把這事告訴了城裡和鄉下的人。 35 人們出來看個究竟,到了耶穌那裡,發現那曾被鬼附身的人衣著整齊、神智清醒地坐在耶穌腳前,他們都很害怕。 36 目擊者把事情的始末告訴了他們。 37 格拉森地區的居民都十分害怕,請求耶穌離開那裡,耶穌便乘船回去了。
38 那從前被鬼附身的人懇求跟耶穌同行,耶穌卻對他說: 39 「你回家吧,把上帝為你所行的奇事告訴別人。」他就回去,走遍全城,四處傳揚耶穌為他所行的奇事。
雅魯求救
40 耶穌回到對岸,受到等候在那裡的百姓的歡迎。 41 一個名叫雅魯的會堂主管走過來俯伏在耶穌腳前,求耶穌到他家去,因為他有一個大約十二歲的獨生女快要死了。
42 耶穌前去雅魯家的時候,人群擁擠著祂。
患血漏病婦人的信心
43 有一個患了十二年血漏病的婦人耗盡了積蓄,到處求醫,但沒有人能醫治她。 44 婦人擠到耶穌的背後,摸了一下祂衣服的穗邊,她的血漏立刻止住了。
45 耶穌問:「誰摸我?」沒有人說摸過祂。
彼得說:「老師,眾人都在擁擠你。」
46 耶穌卻說:「一定有人摸了我,因為我感覺有能力從我身上出去。」
47 那婦人知道無法隱瞞,就戰戰兢兢地走過來,俯伏在耶穌腳前,把她摸了耶穌的衣裳後頑疾馬上痊癒的始末當眾說了出來。
48 耶穌對她說:「女兒,你的信心救了你!安心回去吧。」
雅魯女兒死而復活
49 耶穌還在說話的時候,有人從雅魯家趕來,對雅魯說:「你的女兒已經死了,不用麻煩老師了。」
50 耶穌聽見,就對雅魯說:「不要怕,只要信。你的女兒一定會好的!」
51 到了雅魯家,耶穌只准彼得、雅各、約翰和雅魯夫婦跟祂進去。 52 屋內的人都在為那女孩哀傷哭泣,耶穌說:「不要哭,她沒有死,只是睡著了。」 53 眾人就譏笑祂,因為他們明明知道那女孩死了。 54 耶穌拉著那女孩的手,說:「孩子,起來!」 55 她的靈魂就回來了,她立刻站了起來。耶穌吩咐人給她東西吃。 56 她的父母非常驚訝,耶穌卻囑咐他們不要把這事傳開。

Some Women Accompany Jesus
8 And it happened that afterward[a] also he was going about from one town and village to another preaching and proclaiming the good news concerning the kingdom of God, and the twelve were with him, 2 and some women who had been healed of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (who was called Magdalene), from whom seven demons had gone out, 3 and Joanna the wife of Chuza (Herod’s household manager), and Susanna, and many others who were helping to support them from their possessions.
The Parable of the Sower
4 And while[b] a large crowd was gathering and they were going to him from town after town, he spoke by means of a parable: 5 “The sower went out to sow his seed, and while he was sowing, some seed[c] fell on the side of the path and was trampled under foot, and the birds of the sky devoured it. 6 And other seed fell on the rock, and when it[d] came up, it withered, because it did not have moisture. 7 And other seed fell in the midst of the thorn plants, and the thorn plants grew up with it[e] and[f] choked it. 8 And other seed fell on the good soil, and when it[g] came up, it produced a hundred times as much grain.” As he[h] said these things, he called out, “The one who has ears to hear, let him hear!”
The Reason for the Parables
9 And his disciples asked him what this parable meant. 10 And he said, “To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest they are in parables, so that
‘Seeing they may not see,
and hearing they may not understand.’[i]
The Parable of the Sower Interpreted
11 Now the parable means this: the seed is the word of God, 12 and those beside the path are the ones who have heard. Then the devil comes and takes away the word from their heart, so that they may not believe and[j] be saved. 13 And those on the rock are those who receive the word with joy when they hear it,[k] and these do not have enough root, who believe for a time and in a time of testing fall away. 14 And the seed that fell into the thorn plants—these are the ones who hear and as they[l] go along are choked by the worries and riches and pleasures of life, and they do not bear fruit to maturity. 15 But the seed on the good soil—these are the ones who, after[m] hearing the word, hold fast to it[n] with a noble and good heart, and bear fruit with patient endurance.
The Parable of the Lamp
16 “And no one, after[o] lighting a lamp, covers it with a jar or puts it[p] under a bed, but puts it[q] on a lampstand, so that those who come in can see the light. 17 For nothing is secret that will not become evident, and nothing hidden that will never be known and come to light. 18 Therefore consider how you listen, for whoever has, to him more will be given, and whoever does not have, even what he thinks that he has will be taken away from him.”
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers
19 Now his mother and brothers came to him, and they were not able to meet with him because of the crowd. 20 And it was reported to him, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside wanting to see you.” 21 But he answered and[r] said to them, “These are my mother and my brothers—the ones who hear the word of God and do it.[s]
Calming of a Storm
22 Now it happened that on one of the days both he and his disciples got into a boat, and he said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.” And they set sail, 23 and as[t] they were sailing, he fell asleep. And a storm of wind came down on the lake, and they were being swamped and were in danger. 24 And they came and[u] woke him up, saying, “Master, master! We are perishing!” So he got up and[v] rebuked the wind and the billowing waves of water and they ceased, and it became calm. 25 And he said to them, “Where is your faith?” But they were afraid and[w] were astonished, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that he commands even the winds and the water and they obey him?”
A Demon-possessed Gerasene Healed
26 And they sailed to the region of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee. 27 And as[x] he got out on the land, a certain man from the town met him[y] who had demons and for a considerable time had not worn clothes and did not live in a house, but among the tombs. 28 And when he[z] saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, “What do I have to do with you,[aa] Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me!” 29 For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. (For it had seized him many times, and he was bound with chains and shackles and[ab] was guarded, and breaking the bonds he would be driven by the demon into the deserted places.) 30 So Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Legion,” because many demons had entered into him. 31 And they began imploring[ac] him that he would not order them to depart into the abyss. 32 Now there was a large herd of pigs feeding there on the hill, and they implored him that he would permit them to enter into those pigs. And he permitted them. 33 So the demons came out of the man and[ad] entered into the pigs, and the herd rushed headlong down the steep slope into the lake and were drowned. 34 And when[ae] the herdsmen saw what had happened, they fled and reported it[af] in the town and in the countryside. 35 So they went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone out sitting there clothed and in his right mind, at the feet of Jesus, and they were afraid. 36 And those who had seen it[ag] reported to them how the man who had been demon-possessed had been healed. 37 And all the people of the surrounding region of the Gerasenes asked him to depart from them, because they had been seized with great fear. So he got into the boat and[ah] returned. 38 And the man from who the demons had gone out was begging him to stay with him, but he sent him away, saying, 39 “Return to your home and tell all that God has done for you.” And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole town all that Jesus had done for him.
A Woman Healed and a Daughter Raised
40 Now when Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed him, because they were all waiting for him. 41 And behold, a man who was named[ai] Jairus came, and this man was a ruler of the synagogue. And he fell down at the feet of Jesus and[aj] began imploring[ak] him to come to his house, 42 because he had[al] an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying.
Now as he was going, the crowds were pressing against him. 43 And a woman who was suffering from hemorrhages[am] for twelve years (who, although she[an] had spent all her[ao] assets on physicians, was not able to be healed by anyone) 44 came up behind him and[ap] touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her hemorrhaging[aq] stopped. 45 And Jesus said, “Who is the one who touched me?” And when they[ar] all denied it,[as] Peter said, “Master, the crowds are pressing you hard and crowding you!”[at] 46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me, because I know power has gone out from me.” 47 And when[au] the woman saw that she did not escape notice, she came trembling and falling down before him. In the presence of all the people, she told for what reason she had touched him, and that she was healed immediately. 48 And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”
49 While[av] he was still speaking, someone came from the synagogue ruler’s house, saying, “Your daughter is dead! Trouble the Teacher no longer!” 50 But Jesus, when he[aw] heard this,[ax] replied to him, “Do not be afraid! Only believe, and she will be healed.” 51 Now when he[ay] came to the house, he did not allow anyone to enter with him except Peter and John and James and the father and mother of the child. 52 And they were all weeping and mourning for her, but he said, “Do not weep! For she is not dead, but is sleeping.” 53 And they began laughing[az] at him, because they[ba] knew that she was dead. 54 But he took her hand and[bb] called, saying, “Child, get up.” 55 And her spirit returned, and she got up immediately, and he ordered something[bc] to be given to her to eat. 56 And her parents were astonished, but he ordered them to tell no one what had happened.

8 After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God.(B) The Twelve were with him, 2 and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene)(C) from whom seven demons had come out; 3 Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s(D) household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means.
4 While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, he told this parable: 5 “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. 6 Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.”
When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(E)
9 His disciples asked him what this parable meant. 10 He said, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you,(F) but to others I speak in parables, so that,
11 “This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God.(H) 12 Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. 13 Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away.(I) 14 The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches(J) and pleasures, and they do not mature. 15 But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.
A Lamp on a Stand
16 “No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.(K) 17 For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.(L) 18 Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they think they have will be taken from them.”(M)
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers(N)
19 Now Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see him, but they were not able to get near him because of the crowd. 20 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers(O) are standing outside, wanting to see you.”
21 He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.”(P)
Jesus Calms the Storm(Q)(R)
22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. 23 As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.
24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master,(S) we’re going to drown!”
He got up and rebuked(T) the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm.(U) 25 “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples.
In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”
Jesus Restores a Demon-Possessed Man(V)(W)
26 They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes,[b] which is across the lake from Galilee. 27 When Jesus stepped ashore, he was met by a demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothes or lived in a house, but had lived in the tombs. 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me,(X) Jesus, Son of the Most High God?(Y) I beg you, don’t torture me!” 29 For Jesus had commanded the impure spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places.
30 Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”
“Legion,” he replied, because many demons had gone into him. 31 And they begged Jesus repeatedly not to order them to go into the Abyss.(Z)
32 A large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside. The demons begged Jesus to let them go into the pigs, and he gave them permission. 33 When the demons came out of the man, they went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake(AA) and was drowned.
34 When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, 35 and the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus’ feet,(AB) dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 36 Those who had seen it told the people how the demon-possessed(AC) man had been cured. 37 Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them,(AD) because they were overcome with fear. So he got into the boat and left.
38 The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39 “Return home and tell how much God has done for you.” So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him.
Jesus Raises a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman(AE)
40 Now when Jesus returned, a crowd welcomed him, for they were all expecting him. 41 Then a man named Jairus, a synagogue leader,(AF) came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come to his house 42 because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying.
As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him. 43 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding(AG) for twelve years,[c] but no one could heal her. 44 She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak,(AH) and immediately her bleeding stopped.
45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked.
When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master,(AI) the people are crowding and pressing against you.”
46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me;(AJ) I know that power has gone out from me.”(AK)
47 Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. 48 Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you.(AL) Go in peace.”(AM)
49 While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader.(AN) “Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.”
50 Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.”
51 When he arrived at the house of Jairus, he did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John and James,(AO) and the child’s father and mother. 52 Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning(AP) for her. “Stop wailing,” Jesus said. “She is not dead but asleep.”(AQ)
53 They laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. 54 But he took her by the hand and said, “My child, get up!”(AR) 55 Her spirit returned, and at once she stood up. Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat. 56 Her parents were astonished, but he ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened.(AS)
