百夫长的信心
7 耶稣向众人讲完道后，进了迦百农。 2 当时，有一个百夫长很赏识的奴仆病了，生命垂危。 3 百夫长听说耶稣的事，就托几位犹太人的长老去请耶稣来医治他的奴仆。 4 他们便来恳求耶稣，说：“这位百夫长值得你帮助， 5 因为他爱我们的同胞，为我们建造会堂。” 6 耶稣就跟他们去了。
快抵达时，那百夫长又请几位朋友去见耶稣，对祂说：“主啊，不用劳驾，我不配让你亲自来我家。 7 我自认不配见你的面，只要你一句话，我的奴仆必定康复。 8 因为我有上司，也有部下。我命令我的部下去，他就去；要他来，他就来。我吩咐奴仆做什么事，他一定照办。”
9 耶稣听了这番话，感到惊奇，转身对跟从祂的百姓说：“我告诉你们，就是在以色列，我也从未见过有这么大信心的人。”
10 派去的几位朋友回到百夫长家里，发现那奴仆已经痊愈了。
寡妇的独子起死回生
11 过了不久[a]，耶稣去拿因城，随行的有门徒和一大群人。 12 耶稣快到城门口时，从城里走出一队送殡的人，死者是一个寡妇的独子，有许多城中的人陪着她。 13 耶稣看见那寡妇，怜悯之心油然而生，就对她说：“不要哭！” 14 随即上前按住抬尸架，抬的人停了下来。耶稣说：“年轻人，我吩咐你起来！” 15 那死者就坐了起来，并开口说话。耶稣把他交给他母亲。
16 在场的人惊惧万分，把荣耀归给上帝，说：“我们中间出了一位大先知！”又说：“上帝眷顾了祂的百姓！” 17 有关祂的这消息传遍了犹太和附近地区。
施洗者约翰的疑问
18 约翰从自己的门徒那里获悉这些事后， 19 就叫了两个门徒来，派他们去问主：“将要来的那位就是你吗？还是我们要等别人呢？”
20 他们找到耶稣，便问：“施洗者约翰派我们来请教你，‘将要来的那位就是你吗？还是我们要等别人呢？’”
21 那时，耶稣刚治好了许多患各种疾病和被鬼附身的人，又使许多瞎子得见光明。 22 耶稣便回答说：“你们回去把所见所闻告诉约翰，就是瞎子看见，瘸子走路，麻风病人得洁净，聋子听见，死人复活，穷人听到福音。 23 凡对我没有失去信心的人有福了！”
耶稣称赞施洗者约翰
24 约翰的门徒离去后，耶稣对众人谈论约翰，说：“你们从前去旷野要看什么呢？看随风摇动的芦苇吗？ 25 如果不是，你们到底想看什么？是看穿绫罗绸缎的人吗？那些衣着华丽、生活奢侈的人住在王宫里。 26 你们究竟想看什么？看先知吗？是的，我告诉你们，他不只是先知。 27 圣经上说，‘看啊，我要差遣我的使者在你前面为你预备道路。’这里所指的就是约翰。 28 我告诉你们，凡妇人所生的，没有一个比约翰大，但上帝国中最微不足道的也比他大。”
29 众百姓和税吏听了这番话，都承认上帝是公义的，因为他们接受了约翰的洗礼。 30 但那些法利赛人和律法教师没有接受约翰的洗礼，拒绝了上帝为他们所定的旨意。
31 主又说：“我用什么来比拟这个世代的人呢？他们像什么呢？ 32 他们就如街头上戏耍的孩童——彼此呼叫，
“‘我们吹娶亲的乐曲，
你们不跳舞；
我们唱送葬的哀歌，
你们不哭泣。’
33 施洗者约翰来了，禁食禁酒，你们就说他被鬼附身了； 34 人子来了，又吃又喝，你们就说，‘看啊，祂是个贪吃好酒之徒，与税吏和罪人为友！’ 35 然而，智慧会在追求智慧的人身上得到验证。”
罪妇的悔改
36 有一个法利赛人请耶稣到他家里吃饭，耶稣应邀赴宴。 37 那城里住着一个女人，生活败坏。她听说耶稣在那法利赛人家里吃饭，就带了一个盛满香膏的玉瓶进去。 38 她站在耶稣背后，挨着祂的脚哭，泪水滴湿了祂的脚，就用自己的头发擦干，又连连亲祂的脚，并抹上香膏。
39 请耶稣的法利赛人看在眼里，心想：“如果这人真的是先知，就该知道摸祂的是谁，是个什么样的女人，她是个罪人。”
40 耶稣对他说：“西门，我有话跟你说。”
西门答道：“老师，请说。”
41 耶稣说：“有一个债主借给一个人五百个银币，又借给另一个人五十个银币。 42 二人都没有能力还债，这位债主就免了他们的债务。你想，哪一位会更爱债主呢？”
43 西门答道：“我相信是那个被免去较多债的人。”
44 耶稣说：“你判断得对！”随后转向那女人，继续对西门说：“你看见这女人了吗？我到你家里来，你没有拿水给我洗脚，这女人却用她的眼泪洗我的脚，还亲自用头发擦干。 45 你没有亲吻我，但我进来以后，这女人却不停地吻我的脚。 46 你没有用油为我抹头，这女人却用香膏抹我的脚。 47 所以我告诉你，她众多的罪都被赦免了，因此她的爱深切；那些获得赦免少的，他们的爱也少。”
48 耶稣对那女人说：“你的罪都被赦免了。”
49 同席的人彼此议论说：“这人是谁？竟然能赦免人的罪！”
50 耶稣又对那女人说：“你的信心救了你，平安地走吧！”

The Faith of the Centurion(A)
7 When Jesus had finished saying all this(B) to the people who were listening, he entered Capernaum. 2 There a centurion’s servant, whom his master valued highly, was sick and about to die. 3 The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant. 4 When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, “This man deserves to have you do this, 5 because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.” 6 So Jesus went with them.
He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. 7 That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.(C) 8 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
9 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.” 10 Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well.
Jesus Raises a Widow’s Son(D)
11 Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him. 12 As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. 13 When the Lord(E) saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.”
14 Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!”(F) 15 The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.
16 They were all filled with awe(G) and praised God.(H) “A great prophet(I) has appeared among us,” they said. “God has come to help his people.”(J) 17 This news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding country.(K)
Jesus and John the Baptist(L)
18 John’s(M) disciples(N) told him about all these things. Calling two of them, 19 he sent them to the Lord to ask, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?”
20 When the men came to Jesus, they said, “John the Baptist sent us to you to ask, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?’”
21 At that very time Jesus cured many who had diseases, sicknesses(O) and evil spirits, and gave sight to many who were blind. 22 So he replied to the messengers, “Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy[a] are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.(P) 23 Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.”
24 After John’s messengers left, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swayed by the wind? 25 If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear expensive clothes and indulge in luxury are in palaces. 26 But what did you go out to see? A prophet?(Q) Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 27 This is the one about whom it is written:
28 I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God(S) is greater than he.”
29 (All the people, even the tax collectors, when they heard Jesus’ words, acknowledged that God’s way was right, because they had been baptized by John.(T) 30 But the Pharisees and the experts in the law(U) rejected God’s purpose for themselves, because they had not been baptized by John.)
31 Jesus went on to say, “To what, then, can I compare the people of this generation? What are they like? 32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling out to each other:
“‘We played the pipe for you,
and you did not dance;
we sang a dirge,
and you did not cry.’
33 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine,(V) and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ 34 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’(W) 35 But wisdom is proved right by all her children.”
Jesus Anointed by a Sinful Woman(X)(Y)
36 When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. 37 A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. 38 As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.
39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet,(Z) he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.”
40 Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.”
“Tell me, teacher,” he said.
41 “Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii,[c] and the other fifty. 42 Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?”
43 Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.”
“You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.
44 Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet,(AA) but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You did not give me a kiss,(AB) but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You did not put oil on my head,(AC) but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”
48 Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”(AD)
49 The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”
50 Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you;(AE) go in peace.”(AF)

Ang Kapitan ay Nanampalataya
7 Nang matapos na siya sa lahat ng kaniyang pagsasalita sa mga taong nakikinig, pumasok siya sa Capernaum.
2 Mayroong isang Kapitan na may alipin na kaniyang pinahahalagahan. Ang aliping ito ay may sakit at malapit nang mamatay. 3 Nang marinig ng kapitan ang patungkol kay Jesus, isinugo niya ang mga matanda ng mga Judio. Ito ay upang hilingin kay Jesus na pumunta at pagalingin ang kaniyang alipin. 4 Pagpunta nila kay Jesus, masikap silang namanhik sa kaniya. Sinabi nila: Siya na gagawan mo nito ay karapat-dapat. 5 Ito ay sapagkat iniibig niya ang ating bansa at itinayo niya ang sinagoga para sa amin. 6 Si Jesus ay sumama sa kanila.

7 Kaya nga, hindi ko rin itinuring na ako ay karapat-dapat pumunta sa iyo. Gayunman, magsalita ka lang at ang aking lingkod ay gagaling. 8 Ito ay sapagkat ako rin ay isang lalaking itinalaga sa ilalim ng kapamahalaan. Mayroon akong nasasakupang mga kawal. Sinasabi ko sa isa: Humayo ka.At siya ay humahayo. Sa isa ay sinasabi ko: Pumarito ka. At siya ay pumaparito. Sa aking alipin ay sinasabi ko: Gawin mo ito. At ginagawa niya ito.
9 Nang marinig ni Jesus ang mga bagay na ito, siya ay namangha sa kaniya. Humarap siya sa maraming mga taong sumusunod sa kaniya. Sinabi niya: Sinasabi ko sa inyo, ni sa mga taga-Israel ay hindi ako nakakita ng ganitong kalaking pananampalataya. 10 Nang bumalik sa bahay ang mga isinugo, nasumpungan nilang nasa mabuti nang kalusugan ang aliping may sakit.
Binuhay ni Jesus ang Anak ng Balo
11 Kinabukasan, nangyari na siya ay pumunta sa isang lungsod na tinatawag na Nain. Sumama sa kaniya ang marami sa kaniyang mga alagad at ang napakaraming tao.
12 Nang papalapit na siya sa tarangkahan ng lungsod. Narito, may isang taong patay na at binubuhat papalabas. Ang lalaking patay ay nag-iisang anak ng kaniyang ina na isang balo. Maraming mga mamamayan ng lungsod ang kasama ng ina. 13 Nang makita siya ng Panginoon, siya ay nahabag sa kaniya. Sinabi niya sa kaniya:Huwag kang umiyak.
14 Lumapit si Jesus at hinipo ang kinalalagyan ng patay at ang mga bumubuhat nito ay tumigil. Sinabi niya: Binata, sinasabi ko sa iyo,bumangon ka. 15 Siya na namatay ay umupo at nagsimulang magsalita. Ibinalik siya ni Jesus sa kaniyang ina.
16 Ang lahat ay pinagharian ng takot at niluwalhati nila ang Diyos. Kanilang sinabi: Isang dakilang propeta ang lumitaw sa kalagitnaan natin. Dinalaw ng Diyos ang kaniyang mga tao. 17 Ang ulat na ito patungkol sa kaniya ay kumalat sa buong Judea at sa lahat ng mga lupain sa palibot.
Si Jesus at si Juan na Tagapagbawtismo
18 Ang mga alagad ni Juan ay nagbigay-ulat sa kaniya patungkol sa lahat ng mga bagay na ito.
19 Tinawag ni Juan ang dalawa sa kaniyang mga alagadat sinugo kay Jesus. Ipinasabi niya:Ikaw ba ang aming hinihintay o maghahanap pa kami ng iba?
20 Ang dalawa ay pumunta kay Jesus. Sinabi nila: Sinugo kami sa iyo ni Juan na tagapagbawtismo. Ipinapatanong niya: Ikaw ba ang aming hinihintay o maghahanap pa kami ng iba?
21 Nang oras ding iyon, nagpagaling siya ng maraming mga karamdaman at pasakit, at mga masamang espiritu. Ginawa niya na ang mga bulag ay makakita. 22 Sumagot si Jesus at sinabi sa kanila: Pumaroon na kayo at iulat ninyo kay Juan ang mga narinig at nakita ninyo. Iulat ninyo sa kaniya na ang mga bulag ay nakakita, ang mga lumpo ay nakalakad, ang mga ketongin ay luminis, ang mga bingi ay nakarinig, ang mga patay ay binuhay at ang ebanghelyo ay ipinangaral sa mahihirap. 23 At pinagpala ang sinumanghindi matitisod sa akin.
24 Umalis ang mga sinugo ni Juan. Si Jesus ay nagsimulang magsalita sa maraming mga tao patungkol kay Juan. Ano ang gusto ninyong makita sa pagpunta ninyo sa ilang? Isa bang tambo na inuuga ng hangin? 25 Ano ang gusto ninyong makita sa inyong pagpunta? Isa bang lalaki na nakadamit ng malambot na kasuotan? Narito, sila na nakadamit ng marilag at namumuhay sa karangyaan ay nasa mga palasyo. 26 Ano ang gusto ninyong makita sa inyong pagpunta? Isa bang propeta? Sinasabi ko sa inyo: Oo, at higit na dakila kaysa sa isang propeta. 27 Siya ito na tinutukoy sanasusulat:
Narito, isinusugo ko ang aking sugo na mauuna sa iyo. Siya ang maghahanda ng iyong daraanan sa unahan mo.
28 Sinasabi ko ito sa inyo dahil, sa mga ipinanganak ng mga babae, wala nang propeta na hihigit pa kay Juan na tagapagbawtismo. Gayunman, siya na pinakamababa sa paghahari ng langit ay lalong higit kaysa sa kaniya.
29 Narinig ito ng mga tao at ng mga maniningil ng buwis. Kinilala nilang matuwid ang Diyos sapagkat sila ay nabawtismuhan ng bawtismo ni Juan. 30 Ngunit ang mga Fariseo at mga dalubhasa sa kautusan ay tumanggi sa payo ng Diyos sapagkat hindi sila nabawtismuhan ni Juan.
31 Sinabi ng Panginoon: Sa ano ko nga ihahalintulad ang lahing ito? Ano ang katulad nila? 32 Sila ay katulad ng mga maliliit na bata na nakaupo sa pamilihan at tinatawag ang isa’t isa. Kanilang sinasabi:
Tinugtugan namin kayo ng plawta at hindi kayo sumayaw. Kami ay nagluksa at hindi kayo tumangis.
33 Ito ay sapagkat nang si Juan na tagapagbawtismo ay pumarito, hindi siya kumakain ng pagkain o umiinom ng alak at sinasabi ninyo: Siya ay may demonyo. 34 Nang ang Anak ng Tao ay dumating, siya ay kumakain at umiinom. At sinasabi ninyo: Siya ay taong matakaw at manginginom ng alak, kaibigan ng mga maniningil ng buwis at ng mga makasalanan. 35 Subalit ang karunungan ay pinatunayang matuwid ng lahat ng kaniyang mga anak.
Binuhusan ng Pabango ng Makasalanang Babae si Jesus
36 Isa sa mga Fariseo ang humiling na siya ay kumaing kasama niya. Pagpasok niya sa bahay ng Fariseo, siya ay dumulog sa hapag.
37 Narito, isang babaeng namuhay sa kasalanan ang nasa lungsod na iyon. Nalaman niya na si Jesus ay dumulog sa hapag, sa bahay ng Fariseo. Dahil dito, nagdala siya ng isang mabangong langis na nasa garapong alabastro. 38 Tumayo siya sa likuran ni Jesus, sa kaniyang paanan. Siya ay umiiyak at sinimulan niyang basain ng kaniyang luha ang mga paa ni Jesus. Pinupunasan niya ng kaniyang buhok at taimtim na hinahagkan ang mga paa ni Jesus. Pinapahiran niya ito ng mabangong langis.
39 Nakita ito ng Fariseo na nag-anyaya kay Jesus. Siya ay nangusap sa kaniyang sarili. Kaniyang sinabi: Kung propeta ang taong ito, nalaman sana niya kung sino at anong uringbabae ang humihipo sa kaniya sapagkat ang babaeng ito ay makasalanan.
40 Sa pagsagot ni Jesus, sinabi sa kaniya: Simon may ilang bagay akong sasabihin sa iyo.
Sinabi niya: Guro, sabihin mo.
41 Sinabi ni Jesus: May dalawang lalaking nangutang sa isang nagpapautang. Ang isa ay umutang ng limandaang denaryo, ang isa ay limampu. 42 Nang wala silang maibayad, kapwa sila pinatawad ng nagpautang sa kanila. Sabihin mo kung sino sa kanila ang iibig sa kaniya ng lubos?
43 Sumagot si Simon: Sa palagay ko, ang pinatawad sa malaking pagkakautang.
Sinabi ni Jesus sa kaniya: Tama ang iyong hatol.
44 Humarap siya sa babae. Sinabi niya kay Simon: Nakikita mo ba ang babaeng ito? Pumasok ako sa iyong bahay at hindi mo ako binigyan ng tubig para mahugasan ko ang aking paa. Ngunit binasa ng babaeng ito ang aking mga paa ng kaniyang luha. Pinunasan niya ito ng kaniyang buhok. 45 Hindi mo ako binigyan ng halik. Ngunit ang babaeng ito ay hindi huminto sa mataimtim na paghalik sa aking mga paa mula pa nang ako ay pumasok. 46 Hindi mo pinahiran ng langis ang aking ulo. Ngunit pinahiran niya ng mabangong langis ang aking mga paa. 47 Dahil dito, sinasabi ko sa iyo: Pinatawad na ang marami niyang kasalanan sapagkat siya ay umibig ng lubos. 49 At ang mga kasama niyang nakadulog sa hapag ay nagsimulang magsabi sa kanilang mga sarili. Sinabi nila: Sino ito na nagpapatawad ng mga kasalanan?
50 Sinabi niya sa babae: Iniligtas ka ng iyong pananampalataya. Humayo kang payapa.

7 Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.
2 And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die.
3 And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant.
4 And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this:
5 For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue.
6 Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof:
7 Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.
8 For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
9 When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
10 And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.
11 And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people.
12 Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.
13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.
14 And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.
15 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.
16 And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.
17 And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all the region round about.
18 And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things.
19 And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
20 When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
21 And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.
22 Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.
23 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
24 And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
25 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings' courts.
26 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.
27 This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
28 For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
29 And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.
30 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.
31 And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?
32 They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.
33 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil.
34 The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!
35 But wisdom is justified of all her children.
36 And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat.
37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.
41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.
42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.
44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.
45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.
46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.
47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.
49 And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?

Jesus Heals a Centurion’s Servant(A)
7 Now when He concluded all His sayings in the hearing of the people, He (B)entered Capernaum. 2 And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear to him, was sick and ready to die. 3 So when he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to Him, pleading with Him to come and heal his servant. 4 And when they came to Jesus, they begged Him earnestly, saying that the one for whom He should do this was deserving, 5 “for he loves our nation, and has built us a synagogue.”
6 Then Jesus went with them. And when He was already not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying to Him, “Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof. 7 Therefore I did not even think myself worthy to come to You. But (C)say the word, and my servant will be healed. 8 For I also am a man placed under (D)authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
9 When Jesus heard these things, He marveled at him, and turned around and said to the crowd that followed Him, “I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!” 10 And those who were sent, returning to the house, found the servant well [a]who had been sick.
Jesus Raises the Son of the Widow of Nain
11 Now it happened, the day after, that He went into a city called Nain; and many of His disciples went with Him, and a large crowd. 12 And when He came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her. 13 When the Lord saw her, He had (E)compassion on her and said to her, (F)“Do not weep.” 14 Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, (G)arise.” 15 So he who was dead (H)sat up and began to speak. And He (I)presented him to his mother.
16 (J)Then fear [b]came upon all, and they (K)glorified God, saying, (L)“A great prophet has risen up among us”; and, (M)“God has visited His people.” 17 And this report about Him went throughout all Judea and all the surrounding region.
John the Baptist Sends Messengers to Jesus(N)
18 (O)Then the disciples of John reported to him concerning all these things. 19 And John, calling two of his disciples to him, sent them to [c]Jesus, saying, “Are You (P)the Coming One, or [d]do we look for another?”
20 When the men had come to Him, they said, “John the Baptist has sent us to You, saying, ‘Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?’ ” 21 And that very hour He cured many of [e]infirmities, afflictions, and evil spirits; and to many blind He gave sight.
22 (Q)Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard: (R)that the blind (S)see, the lame (T)walk, the lepers are (U)cleansed, the deaf (V)hear, the dead are raised, (W)the poor have the gospel preached to them. 23 And blessed is he who is not [f]offended because of Me.”
24 (X)When the messengers of John had departed, He began to speak to the multitudes concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? 25 But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed those who are gorgeously appareled and live in luxury are in kings’ courts. 26 But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet. 27 This is he of whom it is written:
(Y)‘Behold, I send My messenger before Your face,
Who will prepare Your way before You.’
28 For I say to you, among those born of women there is [g]not a (Z)greater prophet than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”
29 And when all the people heard Him, even the tax collectors [h]justified God, (AA)having been baptized with the baptism of John. 30 But the Pharisees and [i]lawyers rejected (AB)the will of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.
31 [j]And the Lord said, (AC)“To what then shall I liken the men of this generation, and what are they like? 32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, saying:
‘We played the flute for you,
And you did not dance;
We mourned to you,
And you did not weep.’
33 For (AD)John the Baptist came (AE)neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ 34 The Son of Man has come (AF)eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look, a glutton and a [k]winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ 35 (AG)But wisdom is justified by all her children.”
A Sinful Woman Forgiven
36 (AH)Then one of the Pharisees asked Him to eat with him. And He went to the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to eat. 37 And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil, 38 and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil. 39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying, (AI)“This Man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner.”
40 And Jesus answered and said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.”
So he said, “Teacher, say it.”
41 “There was a certain creditor who had two debtors. One owed five hundred (AJ)denarii, and the other fifty. 42 And when they had nothing with which to repay, he freely forgave them both. Tell Me, therefore, which of them will love him more?”
43 Simon answered and said, “I suppose the one whom he forgave more.”
And He said to him, “You have rightly judged.” 44 Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no (AK)water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head. 45 You gave Me no (AL)kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in. 46 (AM)You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil. 47 (AN)Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.”
48 Then He said to her, (AO)“Your sins are forgiven.”
49 And those who sat at the table with Him began to say to themselves, (AP)“Who is this who even forgives sins?”
50 Then He said to the woman, (AQ)“Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”
