3 凯撒提庇留执政第十五年，本丢．彼拉多作犹太总督，希律作加利利的分封王，他兄弟腓力作以土利亚和特拉可尼地区的分封王，吕撒尼亚作亚比利尼的分封王， 2 亚那和该亚法作大祭司的时候， 神的话临到撒迦利亚的儿子，在旷野的约翰。 3 他就来到约旦河一带地方，宣讲悔改的洗礼，使罪得赦。 4 正如以赛亚先知的书上写着：
“在旷野有呼喊者的声音：
‘预备主的道，
修直他的路！
5 一切洼谷都当填满，
大小山冈都要削平！

高高低低的修成平坦！
6 所有的人都要看见 神的救恩。’”
7 约翰对那出来要受他洗礼的群众说：“毒蛇所生的啊，谁指示你们逃避那将要来的忿怒呢？ 8 应当结出果子来，与悔改的心相称；你们心里不要说：‘我们有亚伯拉罕作我们的祖宗。’我告诉你们， 神能从这些石头中给亚伯拉罕兴起后裔来。 9 现在斧头已经放在树根上，所有不结好果子的树，就砍下来，丢在火里。” 10 群众问他：“那么，我们该作甚么呢？” 11 他回答：“有两件衣服的，当分给那没有的，有食物的也当照样作。” 12 又有税吏来要受洗，问他：“老师，我们当作甚么呢？” 13 他说：“除了规定的以外，不可多收。” 14 兵丁也问他：“至于我们，我们又应当作甚么呢？”他说：“不要恐吓，不要敲诈，当以自己的粮饷为满足。”
15 那时众人正在期待，人人心里都在猜想会不会约翰就是基督。 16 约翰对众人说：“我用水给你们施洗，但那能力比我更大的要来，我就是给他解鞋带都没有资格。他要用圣灵与火给你们施洗。 17 他手里拿着簸箕，要扬净麦场，把麦子收进仓里，却用不灭的火把糠秕烧尽。” 18 他还用许多别的话劝勉众人，向他们传福音。 19 分封王希律，因他弟弟的妻子希罗底，并因他自己所行的一切恶事，受到约翰的责备。 20 他在这一切事以外，再加上一件，就是把约翰关在监里。

Si Juan na Tagapagbawtismo ay Nangaral at Nagbawtismo
3 Sa ika-labinlimang taon ng paghahari ni Tiberio Cesar, ang gobernador sa Judea ay si Poncio Pilato. Ang tetrarka[a] sa Galilea ay si Herodes. Ang kaniyang nakakabatang kapatid na si Felipe ay punong tagapamahala sa Iturea at sa lalawigan ng Traconite. Si Lisonias ay punong tagapamahala sa Abilinia.
2 Ang mga pinakapunong-saserdote ay sina Anas at Caifas. Sa panahong iyon, ang salita ng Diyos ay dumating kay Juan na nasa ilang. Si Juan ay anak ni Zacarias. 3 Siya ay pumunta sa lahat ng lupain sa palibot ng Jordan. Ipinapangaral niya ang bawtismo ng pagsisisi para sa ikakapagpatawad ng mga kasalanan. 4 Sa aklat ng mga salita ni Isaias, ang propeta, ay ganito ang nasusulat:

7 Lumabas ang karamihan upang magpabawtismo sa kaniya. Sinabi niya sa kanila: Kayong lahi ng mga ulupong, sino ang nagbabala sa inyong tumakas sa paparating na galit? 8 Kayo nga ay magbunga na karapat-dapat sa pagsisisi. Huwag ninyong sabihin sa inyong sarili: Si Abraham ang aming ama. Sinasabi ko sa inyo: Ang Diyos ay makakagawa ng mga anak ni Abraham mula sa mga batong ito. 9 Ngayon din naman ay nakalapat na ang palakol sa ugat ng mga punong-kahoy. Ang bawat punong-kahoy nga na hindi nagbubunga ng mabuting bunga ay puputulin at itatapon sa apoy.
10 Tinanong siya ng napakaraming tao: Ano ngayon ang dapat naming gawin?
11 Sumagot siya at sinabi sa kanila: Ang may dalawang balabal ay magbahagi sa kaniya na wala. Gayundin ang gawin ng may pagkain.
12 Dumating din ang mga maniningil ng buwis upang magpabawtismo. Sinabi nila sa kaniya: Guro, ano ang dapat naming gawin?
13 Sinabi niya sa kanila: Huwag kayong maningil ng buwis nang higit sa nakatakdang singilin ninyo.
14 Tinanong din siya ng mga kawal: Ano ang dapat naming gawin?
Sinabi niya sa kanila: Huwag kayong mangikil sa sinuman, ni magparatang ng mali. Masiyahan na kayo sa inyong mga sinasahod.
15 Ang mga tao ay umaasa sa pagdating ng Mesiyas. Ang lahat ay nagmumuni-muni sa kanilang mga puso patungkol kay Juan kung siya nga ang Mesiyas o hindi. 16 Si Juan ay sumagot sa kanilang lahat: Binabawtismuhan ko nga kayo ng tubig ngunit darating ang isang higit na dakila. Hindi ako karapat-dapat na magkalag ng panali ng kaniyang panyapak. Babawtismuhan niya kayo ng Banal na Espiritu at ng apoy. 17 Ang pangtahip ay nasa kaniyang kamay. Lilinisin niya nang lubusan ang kaniyang giikan. Kaniyang titipunin ang trigo sa kaniyang kamalig.Susunugin niya ang dayami sa pamamagitan ng apoy na hindi mapapatay. 18 Marami pang mga bagayang kaniyang ipinagtagubilin sa kaniyang pangangaral ng ebanghelyo sa mga tao.
19 Ngunit pinagwikaan ni Juan si Herodes na tetrarka patungkol kay Herodias na asawa ng kaniyang kapatid na si Felipe. Pinagwikaan din niya si Herodes patungkol sa lahat ng mga kasamaang ginawa niya. 20 Ang kasamaang ito ay nadagdagan pa nang si Juan ay kaniyang ipabilanggo.
Binawtismuhan ni Juan si Jesus
21 Nangyari, na ang lahat ng mga tao ay nabawtismuhan. Nang si Jesus ay nabawtismuhan at nananalangin, ang langit ay nabuksan.
22 Ang Banal na Espiritu ay bumaba sa kaniya na may anyong tulad ng kalapati. Isang tinig ang nagmula sa langit na nagsasabi: Ikaw ang aking pinakamamahal na anak. Lubos akong nalulugod sa iyo.

3 Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene,
2 Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.
3 And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;
4 As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;
6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
7 Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
9 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
10 And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?
11 He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.
12 Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do?
13 And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you.
14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.
15 And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not;
16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:
17 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.
18 And many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people.
19 But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done,
