23 眾人都起來，把耶穌押到彼拉多那裡， 2 控告他說：“我們查出這個人煽惑我們的同胞，阻止納稅給凱撒，並且自稱是基督，是王。” 3 彼拉多問他：“你是猶太人的王嗎？”耶穌回答：“你已經說了（“你已經說了”或譯：“這是你說的”）。” 4 彼拉多對祭司長和眾人說：“我在這人身上，查不出有甚麼罪。” 5 但他們極力說：“他在猶太全地教導人，煽動群眾，從加利利直到這裡。”
希律王藐視耶穌
6 彼拉多聽見了，就問耶穌是不是加利利人。 7 既然知道他是屬於希律管轄的，就把他送回希律那裡；那時希律正在耶路撒冷。 8 希律看見耶穌，非常歡喜，因為他曾經聽過耶穌的事，早就想要見他，希望看他行個神蹟。 9 於是他問了耶穌許多話，但耶穌甚麼也不回答。 10 祭司長和經學家站著，猛烈地控告他。 11 希律和他的侍衛就藐視耶穌，戲弄他，給他穿上華麗的衣服，把他送回彼拉多那裡。 12 希律和彼拉多從前原是彼此為仇，在那一天就成了朋友。

31 他們在青綠的樹上，既然這樣作；在枯乾的樹上，又會怎樣呢？”
32 他們另外帶來兩個犯人，和耶穌一同處死， 33 到了那名叫“髑髏”的地方，就把耶穌釘在十字架上，也釘了那兩個犯人，一左一右。 34 耶穌說：“父啊，赦免他們！因為他們不知道自己所作的是甚麼。”士兵抽籤，分了他的衣服。 35 群眾站著觀看，官長們嗤笑說：“他救了別人，如果他是基督，是 神所揀選的，讓他救自己吧！” 36 士兵也上前戲弄他，拿酸酒給他喝， 37 說：“如果你是猶太人的王，救你自己吧！” 38 在耶穌的頭以上有一個牌子寫著：“這是猶太人的王。”
39 懸掛著的犯人中，有一個侮辱他說：“你不是基督嗎？救你自己和我們吧！” 40 另一個就應聲責備他說：“你是同樣受刑的，還不懼怕 神嗎？ 41 我們是罪有應得的。我們所受的與所作的相稱，然而這個人並沒有作過甚麼不對的事。” 42 他又對耶穌說：“耶穌啊，你得國降臨的時候，求你記念我。” 43 耶穌對他說：“我實在告訴你，今天你必定同我在樂園裡了。”

44 從大約正午直到下午三點鐘，遍地都黑暗了。 45 太陽沒有光，聖所的幔子從當中裂開。 46 耶穌大聲呼叫：“父啊，我把我的靈魂交在你手裡。”說了這話，氣就斷了。 47 百夫長看見所發生的事，就頌讚 神，說：“這真是個義人！” 48 聚集觀看的群眾，看見所發生的事，都捶著胸回去了。 49 與耶穌熟悉的人，和從加利利跟隨他來的婦女，都遠遠地站著，看這些事。
耶穌葬在墳墓裡(E)
50 有一個人名叫約瑟，是個議員，為人良善公義， 51 是猶太地亞利馬太城的人，一向等候 神的國，並不附和眾人的計謀和行為。 52 這人去見彼拉多，求領耶穌的身體。 53 他把身體取下來，用細麻布裹好，放在從石頭鑿出來的墳墓裡，這墳墓是從來沒有葬過人的。 54 那天是預備日，安息日就要開始， 55 那些從加利利和耶穌一起來的婦女，跟著來了。她們看見了墳墓，和他的身體怎樣安葬， 56 就回去預備香料和香膏。

Jesus before Pilate
23 The whole assembly got up and led Jesus to Pilate and 2 began to accuse him. They said, “We have found this man misleading our people, opposing the payment of taxes to Caesar, and claiming that he is the Christ, a king.”
3 Pilate asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”
Jesus replied, “That’s what you say.”
4 Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no legal basis for action against this man.”
5 But they objected strenuously, saying, “He agitates the people with his teaching throughout Judea—starting from Galilee all the way here.”
Jesus before Herod
6 Hearing this, Pilate asked if the man was a Galilean. 7 When he learned that Jesus was from Herod’s district, Pilate sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time. 8 Herod was very glad to see Jesus, for he had heard about Jesus and had wanted to see him for quite some time. He was hoping to see Jesus perform some sign. 9 Herod questioned Jesus at length, but Jesus didn’t respond to him. 10 The chief priests and the legal experts were there, fiercely accusing Jesus. 11 Herod and his soldiers treated Jesus with contempt. Herod mocked him by dressing Jesus in elegant clothes and sent him back to Pilate. 12 Pilate and Herod became friends with each other that day. Before this, they had been enemies.
Jesus and Barabbas
13 Then Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people. 14 He said to them, “You brought this man before me as one who was misleading the people. I have questioned him in your presence and found nothing in this man’s conduct that provides a legal basis for the charges you have brought against him. 15 Neither did Herod, because Herod returned him to us. He’s done nothing that deserves death. 16 Therefore, I’ll have him whipped, then let him go.”[a]
18 But with one voice they shouted, “Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us.” (19 Barabbas had been thrown into prison because of a riot that had occurred in the city, and for murder.)
20 Pilate addressed them again because he wanted to release Jesus.
21 They kept shouting out, “Crucify him! Crucify him!”
22 For the third time, Pilate said to them, “Why? What wrong has he done? I’ve found no legal basis for the death penalty in his case. Therefore, I will have him whipped, then let him go.”
23 But they were adamant, shouting their demand that Jesus be crucified. Their voices won out. 24 Pilate issued his decision to grant their request. 25 He released the one they asked for, who had been thrown into prison because of a riot and murder. But he handed Jesus over to their will.
On the way to the cross
26 As they led Jesus away, they grabbed Simon, a man from Cyrene, who was coming in from the countryside. They put the cross on his back and made him carry it behind Jesus. 27 A huge crowd of people followed Jesus, including women, who were mourning and wailing for him. 28 Jesus turned to the women and said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, don’t cry for me. Rather, cry for yourselves and your children. 29 The time will come when they will say, ‘Happy are those who are unable to become pregnant, the wombs that never gave birth, and the breasts that never nursed a child.’ 30 Then they will say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’[b] 31 If they do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?”
Jesus on the cross
32 They also led two other criminals to be executed with Jesus. 33 When they arrived at the place called The Skull, they crucified him, along with the criminals, one on his right and the other on his left. 34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they’re doing.” They drew lots as a way of dividing up his clothing.
35 The people were standing around watching, but the leaders sneered at him, saying, “He saved others. Let him save himself if he really is the Christ sent from God, the chosen one.”
36 The soldiers also mocked him. They came up to him, offering him sour wine 37 and saying, “If you really are the king of the Jews, save yourself.” 38 Above his head was a notice of the formal charge against him. It read “This is the king of the Jews.”
39 One of the criminals hanging next to Jesus insulted him: “Aren’t you the Christ? Save yourself and us!”
40 Responding, the other criminal spoke harshly to him, “Don’t you fear God, seeing that you’ve also been sentenced to die? 41 We are rightly condemned, for we are receiving the appropriate sentence for what we did. But this man has done nothing wrong.” 42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
43 Jesus replied, “I assure you that today you will be with me in paradise.”
Jesus’ death
44 It was now about noon, and darkness covered the whole earth until about three o’clock, 45 while the sun stopped shining. Then the curtain in the sanctuary tore down the middle. 46 Crying out in a loud voice, Jesus said, “Father, into your hands I entrust my life.”[c] After he said this, he breathed for the last time.
47 When the centurion saw what happened, he praised God, saying, “It’s really true: this man was righteous.” 48 All the crowds who had come together to see this event returned to their homes beating their chests after seeing what had happened. 49 And everyone who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance observing these things.
Jesus’ burial
50 Now there was a man named Joseph who was a member of the council. He was a good and righteous man. 51 He hadn’t agreed with the plan and actions of the council. He was from the Jewish city of Arimathea and eagerly anticipated God’s kingdom. 52 This man went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. 53 Taking it down, he wrapped it in a linen cloth and laid it in a tomb carved out of the rock, in which no one had ever been buried. 54 It was the Preparation Day for the Sabbath, and the Sabbath was quickly approaching. 55 The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph. They saw the tomb and how Jesus’ body was laid in it, 56 then they went away and prepared fragrant spices and perfumed oils. They rested on the Sabbath, in keeping with the commandment.

Gesù davanti a Pilato
23 Tutta l'assemblea si alzò, lo condussero da Pilato 2 e cominciarono ad accusarlo: «Abbiamo trovato costui che sobillava il nostro popolo, impediva di dare tributi a Cesare e affermava di essere il Cristo re». 3 Pilato lo interrogò: «Sei tu il re dei Giudei?». Ed egli rispose: «Tu lo dici». 4 Pilato disse ai sommi sacerdoti e alla folla: «Non trovo nessuna colpa in quest'uomo». 5 Ma essi insistevano: «Costui solleva il popolo, insegnando per tutta la Giudea, dopo aver cominciato dalla Galilea fino a qui».
6 Udito ciò, Pilato domandò se era Galileo 7 e, saputo che apparteneva alla giurisdizione di Erode, lo mandò da Erode che in quei giorni si trovava anch'egli a Gerusalemme.
Gesù davanti a Erode
8 Vedendo Gesù, Erode si rallegrò molto, perché da molto tempo desiderava vederlo per averne sentito parlare e sperava di vedere qualche miracolo fatto da lui. 9 Lo interrogò con molte domande, ma Gesù non gli rispose nulla. 10 C'erano là anche i sommi sacerdoti e gli scribi, e lo accusavano con insistenza. 11 Allora Erode, con i suoi soldati, lo insultò e lo schernì, poi lo rivestì di una splendida veste e lo rimandò a Pilato. 12 In quel giorno Erode e Pilato diventarono amici; prima infatti c'era stata inimicizia tra loro.
Gesù di nuovo davanti a Pilato
13 Pilato, riuniti i sommi sacerdoti, le autorità e il popolo, 14 disse: «Mi avete portato quest'uomo come sobillatore del popolo; ecco, l'ho esaminato davanti a voi, ma non ho trovato in lui nessuna colpa di quelle di cui lo accusate; 15 e neanche Erode, infatti ce l'ha rimandato. Ecco, egli non ha fatto nulla che meriti la morte. 16 Perciò, dopo averlo severamente castigato, lo rilascerò». 17 . 18 Ma essi si misero a gridare tutti insieme: «A morte costui! Dacci libero Barabba!». 19 Questi era stato messo in carcere per una sommossa scoppiata in città e per omicidio.
20 Pilato parlò loro di nuovo, volendo rilasciare Gesù. 21 Ma essi urlavano: «Crocifiggilo, crocifiggilo!». 22 Ed egli, per la terza volta, disse loro: «Ma che male ha fatto costui? Non ho trovato nulla in lui che meriti la morte. Lo castigherò severamente e poi lo rilascerò». 23 Essi però insistevano a gran voce, chiedendo che venisse crocifisso; e le loro grida crescevano. 24 Pilato allora decise che la loro richiesta fosse eseguita. 25 Rilasciò colui che era stato messo in carcere per sommossa e omicidio e che essi richiedevano, e abbandonò Gesù alla loro volontà.
Sulla via del Calvario
26 Mentre lo conducevano via, presero un certo Simone di Cirène che veniva dalla campagna e gli misero addosso la croce da portare dietro a Gesù. 27 Lo seguiva una gran folla di popolo e di donne che si battevano il petto e facevano lamenti su di lui. 28 Ma Gesù, voltandosi verso le donne, disse: «Figlie di Gerusalemme, non piangete su di me, ma piangete su voi stesse e sui vostri figli. 29 Ecco, verranno giorni nei quali si dirà: Beate le sterili e i grembi che non hanno generato e le mammelle che non hanno allattato.
30 Allora cominceranno a dire ai monti:
Cadete su di noi!
e ai colli:
Copriteci!
31 Perché se trattano così il legno verde, che avverrà del legno secco?».
32 Venivano condotti insieme con lui anche due malfattori per essere giustiziati.
La crocifissione
33 Quando giunsero al luogo detto Cranio, là crocifissero lui e i due malfattori, uno a destra e l'altro a sinistra. 34 Gesù diceva: «Padre, perdonali, perché non sanno quello che fanno».
Dopo essersi poi divise le sue vesti, le tirarono a sorte.
Gesù in croce deriso e oltraggiato
35 Il popolo stava a vedere, i capi invece lo schernivano dicendo: «Ha salvato gli altri, salvi se stesso, se è il Cristo di Dio, il suo eletto». 36 Anche i soldati lo schernivano, e gli si accostavano per porgergli dell'aceto, e dicevano: 37 «Se tu sei il re dei Giudei, salva te stesso». 38 C'era anche una scritta, sopra il suo capo: Questi è il re dei Giudei.
Il "buon ladrone"
39 Uno dei malfattori appesi alla croce lo insultava: «Non sei tu il Cristo? Salva te stesso e anche noi!». 40 Ma l'altro lo rimproverava: «Neanche tu hai timore di Dio e sei dannato alla stessa pena? 41 Noi giustamente, perché riceviamo il giusto per le nostre azioni, egli invece non ha fatto nulla di male». 42 E aggiunse: «Gesù, ricordati di me quando entrerai nel tuo regno». 43 Gli rispose: «In verità ti dico, oggi sarai con me nel paradiso».
La morte di Gesù
44 Era verso mezzogiorno, quando il sole si eclissò e si fece buio su tutta la terra fino alle tre del pomeriggio. 45 Il velo del tempio si squarciò nel mezzo. 46 Gesù, gridando a gran voce, disse: «Padre, nelle tue mani consegno il mio spirito». Detto questo spirò.
Dopo la morte di Gesù
47 Visto ciò che era accaduto, il centurione glorificava Dio: «Veramente quest'uomo era giusto». 48 Anche tutte le folle che erano accorse a questo spettacolo, ripensando a quanto era accaduto, se ne tornavano percuotendosi il petto. 49 Tutti i suoi conoscenti assistevano da lontano e così le donne che lo avevano seguito fin dalla Galilea, osservando questi avvenimenti.
La sepoltura
50 C'era un uomo di nome Giuseppe, membro del sinedrio, persona buona e giusta. 51 Non aveva aderito alla decisione e all'operato degli altri. Egli era di Arimatèa, una città dei Giudei, e aspettava il regno di Dio. 52 Si presentò a Pilato e chiese il corpo di Gesù. 53 Lo calò dalla croce, lo avvolse in un lenzuolo e lo depose in una tomba scavata nella roccia, nella quale nessuno era stato ancora deposto. 54 Era il giorno della parascève e gia splendevano le luci del sabato. 55 Le donne che erano venute con Gesù dalla Galilea seguivano Giuseppe; esse osservarono la tomba e come era stato deposto il corpo di Gesù, 56 poi tornarono indietro e prepararono aromi e oli profumati. Il giorno di sabato osservarono il riposo secondo il comandamento.
