Xa-chê Gặp Chúa
19 Vào đến Giê-ri-cô, Đức Giê-su đi ngang qua thành phố. 2 Tại đó, có một người tên Xa-chê, làm trưởng đoàn thu thuế rất giàu có. 3 Ông muốn nhìn xem Đức Giê-su là ai nhưng không được, vì dân chúng đông đảo mà ông lại thấp bé. 4 Ông chạy trước leo lên một cây sung,[a] để có thể nhìn thấy Ngài vì Ngài sắp đi qua đó.
5 Khi đến chỗ ấy, Đức Giê-su nhìn lên bảo: “Xa-chê, hãy xuống mau vì hôm nay Ta phải ghé lại nhà con!” 6 Xa-chê vội vàng tụt xuống, mừng rỡ tiếp đón Ngài.
7 Mọi người thấy vậy đều lầm bầm: “Ông ấy vào nhà kẻ tội lỗi mà trọ!”
8 Nhưng Xa-chê đứng dậy thưa với Chúa: “Lạy Chúa, đây này, con xin phân phát một nửa tài sản của con cho người nghèo khổ, và nếu con có bóc lột ai bất cứ điều gì, con xin bồi thường gấp tư!”
9 Đức Giê-su bảo Xa-chê: “Hôm nay, sự cứu rỗi đã vào nhà này, vì người cũng là con cháu Áp-ra-ham. 10 Vì Con Người đã đến, tìm và cứu kẻ bị hư mất.”
Ví Dụ Về Mười Mi-na Bạc(A)
11 Vì lúc ấy, Đức Giê-su tới gần Giê-ru-sa-lem và dân chúng tưởng Nước Đức Chúa Trời sắp xuất hiện đến nơi, nên khi họ đang nghe Ngài dạy, Ngài kể thêm một ngụ ngôn sau đây: 12 “Một thái tử đi phương xa để được phong vương[b] rồi mới về nước. 13 Ông gọi mười đầy tớ đến, giao cho họ mười mi-na bạc[c] và bảo: ‘Hãy kinh doanh cho đến khi ta về!’
14 Nhưng dân ghét thái tử, nên cử một phái đoàn theo sau đưa thỉnh nguyện: ‘Chúng tôi không muốn thái tử này cai trị chúng tôi.’
15 Sau khi thụ phong, tân vương quay về, cho gọi những đầy tớ đã được giao bạc đến, để xem mỗi người làm lợi được bao nhiêu.
16 Đầy tớ thứ nhất đến thưa: ‘Thưa, mi-na bạc của ngài sinh lợi được mười mi-na.’
17 Vua khen: ‘Được lắm, đầy tớ giỏi của ta. Vì ngươi trung tín trong việc nhỏ nên ngươi sẽ được quản trị mười thành.’
18 Đầy tớ thứ hai đến trình: ‘Thưa, mi-na bạc của ngài sinh lợi được năm mi-na.’
19 Vua đáp: ‘Ngươi sẽ được quản trị năm thành!’
20 Một đầy tớ khác đến thưa: ‘Thưa, đây là mi-na bạc của ngài, con đã gói cất trong khăn, 21 vì con sợ ngài; bởi ngài là người nghiêm ngặt, lấy những gì không đặt, lại gặt những gì không gieo!’
22 Vua phán: ‘Ta căn cứ vào lời ngươi mà xét xử ngươi, tên đầy tớ gian ác kia! Ngươi đã biết ta nghiêm ngặt, lấy những gì ta không đặt, lại gặt những gì ta không gieo, phải không? 23 Thế sao ngươi không gửi bạc ta vào ngân hàng,[d] để khi ta về, ta có thể thu lại cả vốn lẫn lời?’
24 Rồi vua ra lệnh cho các người hầu cận: ‘Hãy lấy mi-na bạc của nó mà cho người có mười mi-na.’
25 Họ tâu: ‘Thưa, người ấy đã có mười mi-na rồi!’
26 Vua phán: ‘Ta bảo cho các ngươi biết, ai đã có sẽ được cho thêm; nhưng ai không có sẽ bị lấy mất luôn điều gì họ có. 27 Còn những tên chống nghịch, không muốn ta cai trị, hãy giải chúng đến đây mà xử tử trước mặt ta.’ ”
Chúa Vào Giê-ru-sa-lem Cách Khải Hoàn
28 Dạy xong những điều ấy, Đức Giê-su dẫn đầu đoàn dân đi lên Giê-ru-sa-lem. 29 Khi đến gần làng Bết-pha-giê và Bê-tha-ni, bên núi Ô-liu, Ngài sai hai môn đệ đi, và dặn rằng: 30 “Các con hãy vào làng trước mặt, sẽ thấy một con lừa con đang cột ở đó, chưa từng có ai cưỡi. Hãy mở dây dắt nó về đây. 31 Nếu ai hỏi: ‘Tại sao các anh mở lừa ra?’ các con cứ đáp: ‘Vì Chúa cần nó.’ ”
32 Các môn đệ ấy[e] ra đi, gặp đúng như điều Ngài đã báo trước. 33 Khi họ đang tháo lừa con, các người chủ nó hỏi: “Tại sao các anh tháo lừa con ra?”
34 Họ đáp: “Vì Chúa cần nó!”
35 Họ dắt lừa con về cho Đức Giê-su, phủ áo mình trên lưng lừa, rồi đỡ Ngài lên cưỡi. 36 Ngài cưỡi lừa đi, nhiều người trải áo mình ra trên đường.
37 Lúc đến gần sườn núi Ô-liu, cả đoàn môn đệ đông đảo đều mừng rỡ lớn tiếng ca ngợi Đức Chúa Trời về những việc quyền năng họ đã được chứng kiến. Họ tung hô:
38 “Phước cho Đức Vua, Đấng nhân danh Chúa mà đến,
Bình an trên trời, vinh quang trên các nơi chí cao!”[f]
39 Vài người Pha-ri-si trong đám đông nói: “Thưa Thầy, xin quở trách các môn đệ Thầy!”
40 Chúa đáp: “Ta bảo cho các người biết: Nếu họ nín lặng, đá sẽ tung hô!”
41 Khi đến gần, nhìn thấy thành phố, Ngài khóc cho nó, 42 rằng: “Ước chi hôm nay chính ngươi biết được điều gì đem lại cho mình sự bình an! Nhưng bây giờ, những điều ấy bị che khuất, mắt ngươi không nhìn thấy được. 43 Vì sẽ có ngày, địch quân kéo đến, đắp lũy, bao vây ngươi và đồng loạt tấn công[g] tất cả các mặt; 44 chúng sẽ phá đổ ngươi và con cái trong thành ngươi ra bình địa, chúng sẽ không để tảng đá nào chồng lên tảng đá nào, vì ngươi đã không nhận biết thời điểm ngươi được thăm viếng.”[h]
Dẹp Sạch Đền Thờ(B)
45 Đức Giê-su vào đền thờ, xua đuổi những kẻ buôn bán ở đó, 46 và quở trách họ: “Kinh Thánh chép: ‘Nhà Ta là nhà cầu nguyện, nhưng các ngươi đã biến thành sào huyệt trộm cướp!’ ”
47 Hằng ngày, Ngài dạy dỗ trong đền thờ; nhưng các thượng tế, các giáo sư Kinh Luật, và các nhà lãnh đạo dân chúng tìm cách giết Ngài, 48 song chưa tìm dược phương kế vì tất cả dân chúng đều say mê nghe Ngài giảng dạy.

19 Chúa Giê-xu đi ngang qua thành Giê-ri-cô. 2 Ở đó có một người tên Xa-chê là nhân viên thuế vụ cao cấp rất giàu. 3 Ông muốn thấy Chúa Giê-xu nhưng không được vì ông quá lùn giữa đám đông dân chúng. 4 Ông liền chạy trước đón chỗ Chúa Giê-xu sẽ đi ngang qua, rồi trèo lên một cây sung để thấy Ngài. 5 Lúc Chúa Giê-xu đến nơi, Ngài ngước nhìn và gọi, “Xa-chê ơi, xuống mau. Hôm nay ta phải ghé lại nhà anh.”
6 Xa-chê vội vàng trèo xuống và hớn hở tiếp Ngài. 7 Dân chúng thấy thế bắt đầu xì xào, “Ông Giê-xu ghé nhà một người có tội!”
8 Nhưng Xa-chê đứng đó nói, “Thưa Chúa, tôi sẽ lấy phân nửa tài sản tôi phân phát cho người nghèo. Còn nếu tôi đã lường gạt ai, tôi sẽ đền lại gấp bốn lần.”
9 Chúa Giê-xu bảo ông, “Hôm nay ơn cứu rỗi đã đến nhà nầy vì anh cũng là con cháu Áp-ra-ham. 10 Con Người đến để tìm và cứu những kẻ bị lầm lạc.”
Câu chuyện ba người đầy tớ(A)
11 Trong lúc dân chúng đang theo dõi chuyện ấy thì Chúa Giê-xu thuật cho họ một câu chuyện khác trong khi Ngài đi gần đến thành Giê-ru-sa-lem, còn dân chúng thì tưởng là Nước Trời sẽ hiện ra ngay. 12 Ngài kể, “Có một nhân vật quan trọng sắp đi đến một xứ xa để được tấn phong làm vua rồi trở về nhà. 13 Ông gọi mười người đầy tớ lại, giao cho mỗi người một túi tiền [a]. Ông dặn, ‘Lấy tiền nầy mà kinh doanh cho đến khi ta trở về.’ 14 Tuy nhiên dân chúng trong nước ghét ông cho nên họ cử một toán đại diện đi theo nói, ‘Chúng tôi không muốn ông nầy làm vua cai trị chúng tôi.’
15 Nhưng ông vẫn được phong làm vua. Khi trở về, ông bảo, ‘Gọi mấy đứa đầy tớ đã nhận tiền của ta xem thử chúng nó làm ăn ra sao.’ 16 Người đầy tớ thứ nhất vào trình, ‘Thưa ngài, con đã dùng quan tiền ngài đưa và làm lợi được mười đồng nữa.’ 17 Vua khen, ‘Giỏi! Anh là người đầy tớ tốt. Vì ta có thể tin cậy anh trong việc nhỏ, ta sẽ cho anh cai trị mười thành.’ 18 Người đầy tớ thứ nhì vào trình, ‘Thưa ngài, một quan tiền ngài đưa con làm lợi được năm đồng nữa.’ 19 Vua bảo, ‘Anh được cai trị năm thành.’ 20 Đến lượt một người đầy tớ nữa vào trình vua, ‘Thưa ngài, đây là quan tiền ngài đưa, con đã gói vải kỹ và cất giấu cẩn thận. 21 Con sợ ngài vì ngài rất khó tính. Ngài hay rút tiền mình không bỏ vào, và gặt nơi mình không gieo.’ 22 Vua liền bảo nó, ‘Lời của anh sẽ buộc tội anh, nầy tên đầy tớ gian ác. Anh biết ta khó tính, rút tiền mình không bỏ vào, gặt nơi mình không trồng. 23 Tại sao anh không gởi tiền ta vào ngân hàng để đến khi ta về thì ta cũng được một ít tiền lời?’ 24 Vua bảo mấy người hầu cận, ‘Lấy quan tiền của thằng nầy cho đứa có mười đồng.’ 25 Họ thưa, ‘Nhưng thưa ngài, anh ấy đã có mười đồng rồi.’ 26 Vua bảo, ‘Ai có thì cho thêm, ai không có thì bị lấy luôn hết. 27 Còn bây giờ những ai là kẻ thù của ta không muốn ta làm vua cai trị? Chúng nó đâu? Đem ra đây xử tử hết trước mặt ta.’”
Chúa Giê-xu vào thành Giê-ru-sa-lem như một hoàng đế(B)
28 Sau khi kể chuyện ấy xong, thì Ngài đi về hướng Giê-ru-sa-lem. 29 Lúc gần đến Bết-phát và Bê-tha-ni, hai thị trấn cạnh sườn núi Ô-liu thì Ngài sai hai môn đệ đi 30 và dặn, “Các con hãy đi đến thị trấn ngay trước mặt. Khi vào phố các con sẽ thấy một con lừa con đang cột, chưa có ai cỡi. Tháo nó ra mang về đây cho ta. 31 Nếu có ai hỏi tại sao tháo nó ra, thì bảo là Chúa cần nó.”
32 Hai môn đệ đi vào thành, quả gặp con lừa con y như Chúa Giê-xu đã bảo. 33 Trong khi họ đang tháo lừa ra, thì mấy người chủ lừa đến hỏi, “Tại sao mấy anh tháo con lừa con của chúng tôi làm gì?”
34 Các môn đệ đáp, “Chúa cần dùng nó.” 35 Rồi họ mang lừa con về cho Chúa Giê-xu, lấy áo mình trải lên lưng lừa và nâng Ngài lên cỡi. 36 Trong khi Chúa Giê-xu cỡi lừa về phía Giê-ru-sa-lem thì nhiều người khác trải áo mình trên đường trước mặt Ngài.
37 Khi Ngài đến gần Giê-ru-sa-lem, trên đường xuống núi Ô-liu, đoàn môn đệ đông đảo reo vui ca ngợi Thượng Đế về những phép lạ họ đã chứng kiến. 38 Dân chúng la lên,
“‘Nguyện Trời ban phước cho vua đến trong danh Chúa!’ (C)
Hoà bình trên thiên quốc,
Vinh danh Thánh Chúa trên trời cao!”
39 Một số người Pha-ri-xi trong đoàn dân nói với Chúa Giê-xu, “Thưa thầy, xin cấm các môn đệ nầy đừng ca ngợi như thế.”
40 Nhưng Chúa Giê-xu đáp, “Ta cho các ông biết, nếu họ không ca ngợi thì đá sẽ hát lên.”
Chúa Giê-xu khóc về thành Giê-ru-sa-lem
41 Lúc gần đến Giê-ru-sa-lem, Chúa Giê-xu trông thấy thành, thì bật khóc về thành. 42 Ngài nói, “Ước gì ngày nay ngươi biết điều gì mang đến hòa bình cho ngươi. Nhưng bây giờ điều ấy đã bị che khuất khỏi ngươi. 43 Sẽ đến lúc các kẻ thù ngươi xây tường, vây hãm ngươi khắp bốn bên. 44 Chúng sẽ tiêu diệt ngươi luôn cả dân cư ngươi, và rồi sẽ không có một hòn đá nào nằm chồng lên một hòn đá khác. Tất cả những biến cố đó sẽ đến, chỉ vì ngươi không biết lúc Thượng Đế đến cứu ngươi.”
Chúa Giê-xu vào đền thờ(D)
45 Chúa Giê-xu đi vào đền thờ và đuổi tất cả những người buôn bán ở đó. 46 Ngài dạy, “Thánh Kinh đã ghi, ‘Đền thờ ta sẽ là nhà cầu nguyện.’ [b] Nhưng các ngươi đã biến nó thành ‘sào huyệt lũ cướp’!” [c]
47 Chúa Giê-xu dạy dỗ trong đền thờ mỗi ngày. Các giới trưởng tế, các chuyên gia luật pháp và một số lãnh tụ trong dân chúng muốn giết Ngài, 48 nhưng họ không biết làm cách nào vì tất cả dân chúng đều chăm chỉ nghe Ngài.

Zacchaeus the Tax Collector
19 Jesus entered Jericho(A) and was passing through. 2 A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3 He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig(B) tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.(C)
5 When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” 6 So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.
7 All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.”(D)
8 But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord,(E) “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything,(F) I will pay back four times the amount.”(G)
9 Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham.(H) 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”(I)
The Parable of the Ten Minas(J)
11 While they were listening to this, he went on to tell them a parable, because he was near Jerusalem and the people thought that the kingdom of God(K) was going to appear at once.(L) 12 He said: “A man of noble birth went to a distant country to have himself appointed king and then to return. 13 So he called ten of his servants(M) and gave them ten minas.[a] ‘Put this money to work,’ he said, ‘until I come back.’
14 “But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We don’t want this man to be our king.’
15 “He was made king, however, and returned home. Then he sent for the servants to whom he had given the money, in order to find out what they had gained with it.
16 “The first one came and said, ‘Sir, your mina has earned ten more.’
17 “‘Well done, my good servant!’(N) his master replied. ‘Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.’(O)
18 “The second came and said, ‘Sir, your mina has earned five more.’
19 “His master answered, ‘You take charge of five cities.’
20 “Then another servant came and said, ‘Sir, here is your mina; I have kept it laid away in a piece of cloth. 21 I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man. You take out what you did not put in and reap what you did not sow.’(P)
22 “His master replied, ‘I will judge you by your own words,(Q) you wicked servant! You knew, did you, that I am a hard man, taking out what I did not put in, and reaping what I did not sow?(R) 23 Why then didn’t you put my money on deposit, so that when I came back, I could have collected it with interest?’
24 “Then he said to those standing by, ‘Take his mina away from him and give it to the one who has ten minas.’
25 “‘Sir,’ they said, ‘he already has ten!’
26 “He replied, ‘I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what they have will be taken away.(S) 27 But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and kill them in front of me.’”
Jesus Comes to Jerusalem as King(T)(U)
28 After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.(V) 29 As he approached Bethphage and Bethany(W) at the hill called the Mount of Olives,(X) he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, 30 “Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it.’”
32 Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them.(Y) 33 As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?”
34 They replied, “The Lord needs it.”
35 They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. 36 As he went along, people spread their cloaks(Z) on the road.
37 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives,(AA) the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:
“Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”(AC)
39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”(AD)
40 “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”(AE)
41 As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it(AF) 42 and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. 43 The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side.(AG) 44 They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls.(AH) They will not leave one stone on another,(AI) because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming(AJ) to you.”
Jesus at the Temple(AK)
45 When Jesus entered the temple courts, he began to drive out those who were selling. 46 “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be a house of prayer’[c];(AL) but you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’[d]”(AM)
47 Every day he was teaching at the temple.(AN) But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him.(AO) 48 Yet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on his words.

Zaccheus Is Saved
19 And He (A)entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 And behold, there was a man called by the name of Zaccheus; he was a chief tax collector and he was rich. 3 And Zaccheus was trying to see who Jesus was, and was unable because of the crowd, for he was small in stature. 4 So he ran on before and climbed up into a [a](B)sycamore tree in order to see Him, for He was about to pass through that way. 5 And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, “Zaccheus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house.” 6 And he hurried and came down and received Him [b]gladly. 7 And when they saw it, they all began to grumble, saying, “He has gone [c]to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.” 8 But Zaccheus stopped and said to (C)the Lord, “Behold, half of my possessions, Lord, I [d]will give to the poor, and if I have (D)extorted anyone of anything, I [e]will give back (E)four times as much.” 9 And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he, too, is (F)a son of Abraham. 10 For (G)the Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost.”
Parable of the Ten Minas
11 Now while they were listening to these things, Jesus went on to tell a parable, because (H)He was near Jerusalem, and they thought that (I)the kingdom of God was going to appear immediately. 12 So He said, “(J)A nobleman went to a distant country to receive a kingdom for himself, and then return. 13 And he called ten of his slaves, and gave them ten [f]minas and said to them, ‘Engage in business [g]until I come back.’ 14 But his citizens hated him and sent [h]a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’ 15 And it happened that when he returned, after receiving the kingdom, he ordered that these slaves, to whom he had given the money, be called to him so that he might know how much they had made in business. 16 So the first appeared, saying, ‘[i]Master, your [j]mina has made ten minas more.’ 17 And he said to him, ‘Well done, good slave, because you have been (K)faithful in a very little thing, you are to be in authority over ten cities.’ 18 Then the second came, saying, ‘Your [k]mina, [l]master, has made five minas.’ 19 And he said to him also, ‘And you are to be over five cities.’ 20 Then another came, saying, ‘Master, here is your mina, which I kept put away in a cloth; 21 for I was afraid of you, because you are a strict man; you take up what you did not lay down and reap what you did not sow.’ 22 He *said to him, ‘From your own mouth I will judge you, you worthless slave. Did you know that I am a strict man, taking up what I did not lay down and reaping what I did not sow? 23 Then why did you not put my money in the bank, and having come, I would have collected it with interest?’ 24 Then he said to the bystanders, ‘Take the mina away from him and give it to the one who has the ten minas.’ 25 And they said to him, ‘Master, he has ten minas already.’ 26 ‘(L)I tell you that to everyone who has, more shall be given, but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away. 27 But (M)these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and (N)slay them in my presence.’”
The Triumphal Entry
28 And after He had said these things, He (O)was going on ahead, (P)going up to Jerusalem.
29 (Q)And it happened that when He approached Bethphage and (R)Bethany, near the mount called “of (S)Olives,” He sent two of the disciples, 30 saying, “Go into the village ahead of you; in which, as you enter, you will find a colt tied, on which no one yet has ever sat; untie it and bring it here. 31 And if anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘Because the Lord has need of it.’” 32 So when those who were sent departed, they found it just as He had told them. 33 And as they were untying the colt, its [m]owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” 34 And they said, “The Lord has need of it.” 35 And they brought it to Jesus, (T)and after they threw their garments on the colt, they put Jesus on it. 36 And as He was going, they were spreading their garments on the road. 37 Now as soon as He was approaching, near the descent of (U)the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to (V)praise God, rejoicing with a loud voice for all the [n]miracles which they had seen, 38 saying,
“(W)Blessed is the (X)King who comes in the name of the [o]Lord.
Peace in heaven and (Y)glory in the highest!”
39 (Z)And some of the Pharisees [p]in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.” 40 But Jesus answered and said, “I tell you, if these were silent, (AA)the stones will cry out!”
Lament over Jerusalem
41 And as He approached Jerusalem and saw the city, He (AB)cried over it, 42 saying, “If you knew in this day, even you, the things which make for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes. 43 For the days will come upon you [q]when your enemies will (AC)throw up a [r]barricade against you, and (AD)surround you and hem you in on every side, 44 and they will level you to the ground and your children within you, and (AE)they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not [s]recognize (AF)the time of your visitation.”
Jesus Drives Merchants from the Temple
45 (AG)And Jesus entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling, 46 saying to them, “It is written, ‘(AH)And My house shall be a house of prayer,’ (AI)but you have made it a robbers’ [t]den.”
47 And (AJ)He was teaching daily in the temple, but the chief priests and the scribes and the leading men among the people (AK)were trying to destroy Him, 48 and they could not find [u]anything that they might do, for all the people hung upon [v]every word He said.

2 And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.
3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.
4 And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.
5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.
6 And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.
7 And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.
8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.
9 And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.
10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
11 And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.
12 He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.
14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.
15 And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.
16 Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.
17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.
18 And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.
19 And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.
20 And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:
21 For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.
22 And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:
23 Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?
24 And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.

42 Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.
43 For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,
44 And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.
