19 耶稣进了耶利哥，正经过的时候， 2 有一个人名叫撒该，做税吏长，是个财主， 3 他要看看耶稣是怎样的人。只因人多，他的身量又矮，所以不得看见。 4 就跑到前头，爬上桑树，要看耶稣，因为耶稣必从那里经过。 5 耶稣到了那里，抬头一看，对他说：“撒该，快下来！今天我必住在你家里。” 6 他就急忙下来，欢欢喜喜地接待耶稣。 7 众人看见，都私下议论说：“他竟到罪人家里去住宿！” 8 撒该站着对主说：“主啊，我把所有的一半给穷人，我若讹诈了谁，就还他四倍。” 9 耶稣说：“今天救恩到了这家，因为他也是亚伯拉罕的子孙。 10 人子来，为要寻找、拯救失丧的人。”
交银于十仆的比喻
11 众人正在听见这些话的时候，耶稣因为将近耶路撒冷，又因他们以为神的国快要显出来，就另设一个比喻，说： 12 “有一个贵胄往远方去，要得国回来。 13 便叫了他的十个仆人来，交给他们十锭[a]银子，说：‘你们去做生意，直等我回来。’ 14 他本国的人却恨他，打发使者随后去说：‘我们不愿意这个人做我们的王。’ 15 他既得国回来，就吩咐叫那领银子的仆人来，要知道他们做生意赚了多少。 16 头一个上来，说：‘主啊，你的一锭银子已经赚了十锭。’ 17 主人说：‘好，良善的仆人！你既在最小的事上有忠心，可以有权柄管十座城。’ 18 第二个来，说：‘主啊，你的一锭银子已经赚了五锭。’ 19 主人说：‘你也可以管五座城。’ 20 又有一个来，说：‘主啊，看哪，你的一锭银子在这里，我把它包在手巾里存着。 21 我原是怕你，因为你是严厉的人，没有放下的还要去拿，没有种下的还要去收。’ 22 主人对他说：‘你这恶仆！我要凭你的口定你的罪。你既知道我是严厉的人，没有放下的还要去拿，没有种下的还要去收， 23 为什么不把我的银子交给银行，等我来的时候，连本带利都可以要回来呢？’ 24 就对旁边站着的人说：‘夺过他这一锭来，给那有十锭的！’ 25 他们说：‘主啊，他已经有十锭了。’ 26 主人说：‘我告诉你们：凡有的，还要加给他；没有的，连他所有的也要夺过来。 27 至于我那些仇敌，不要我做他们王的，把他们拉来，在我面前杀了吧！’”
主骑驴进耶路撒冷
28 耶稣说完了这话，就在前面走，上耶路撒冷去。
29 将近伯法其和伯大尼，在一座山名叫橄榄山那里，就打发两个门徒，说： 30 “你们往对面村子里去，进去的时候，必看见一匹驴驹拴在那里，是从来没有人骑过的，可以解开牵来。 31 若有人问为什么解它，你们就说：‘主要用它。’” 32 打发的人去了，所遇见的正如耶稣所说的。 33 他们解驴驹的时候，主人问他们说：“解驴驹做什么？” 34 他们说：“主要用它。” 35 他们牵到耶稣那里，把自己的衣服搭在上面，扶着耶稣骑上。 36 走的时候，众人把衣服铺在路上。 37 将近耶路撒冷，正下橄榄山的时候，众门徒因所见过的一切异能都欢乐起来，大声赞美神， 38 说：“奉主名来的王是应当称颂的！在天上有和平，在至高之处有荣光！” 39 众人中有几个法利赛人对耶稣说：“夫子，责备你的门徒吧！” 40 耶稣说：“我告诉你们，若是他们闭口不说，这些石头必要呼叫起来！”
为耶路撒冷哀哭
41 耶稣快到耶路撒冷，看见城，就为它哀哭， 42 说：“巴不得你在这日子知道关系你平安的事，无奈这事现在是隐藏的，叫你的眼看不出来。 43 因为日子将到，你的仇敌必筑起土垒，周围环绕你，四面困住你， 44 并要扫灭你和你里头的儿女，连一块石头也不留在石头上，因你不知道眷顾你的时候。”
洁净圣殿
45 耶稣进了殿，赶出里头做买卖的人， 46 对他们说：“经上说：‘我的殿必做祷告的殿’，你们倒使它成为贼窝了！”
47 耶稣天天在殿里教训人。祭司长和文士与百姓的尊长都想要杀他， 48 但寻不出法子来，因为百姓都侧耳听他。

Jesús y Zaqueo
19 Jesús entró en Jericó y comenzó a atravesar la ciudad. 2 Vivía allí un hombre rico llamado Zaqueo, jefe de los que cobraban impuestos para Roma. 3 Éste quería conocer a Jesús, pero no conseguía verlo porque había mucha gente y Zaqueo era pequeño de estatura. 4 Por eso corrió adelante y, para alcanzar a verlo, se subió a un árbol cerca de donde Jesús tenía que pasar. 5 Cuando Jesús pasaba por allí, miró hacia arriba y le dijo:
—Zaqueo, baja en seguida, porque hoy tengo que quedarme en tu casa.
6 Zaqueo bajó aprisa, y con gusto recibió a Jesús. 7 Al ver esto, todos comenzaron a criticar a Jesús, diciendo que había ido a quedarse en la casa de un pecador. 8 Zaqueo se levantó entonces y le dijo al Señor:
—Mira, Señor, voy a dar a los pobres la mitad de todo lo que tengo; y si le he robado algo a alguien, le devolveré cuatro veces más.
9 Jesús le dijo:
—Hoy ha llegado la salvación a esta casa, porque este hombre también es descendiente de Abraham. 10 Pues el Hijo del hombre ha venido a buscar y salvar lo que se había perdido.
La parábola del dinero
11 La gente estaba oyendo a Jesús decir estas cosas, y él les contó una parábola, porque ya estaba cerca de Jerusalén y ellos pensaban que el reino de Dios iba a llegar en seguida.
12 Les dijo: «Había un hombre de la nobleza, que se fue lejos, a otro país, para ser nombrado rey y regresar. 13 Antes de salir, llamó a diez de sus empleados, entregó a cada uno de ellos una gran cantidad de dinero y les dijo: “Hagan negocio con este dinero hasta que yo vuelva.” 14 Pero la gente de su país lo odiaba, y mandaron tras él una comisión encargada de decir: “No queremos que este hombre sea nuestro rey.”
15 »Pero él fue nombrado rey, y regresó a su país. Cuando llegó, mandó llamar a los empleados a quienes había entregado el dinero, para saber cuánto había ganado cada uno. 16 El primero se presentó y dijo: “Señor, su dinero ha producido diez veces más.” 17 El rey le contestó: “Muy bien; eres un buen empleado; ya que fuiste fiel en lo poco, te hago gobernador de diez pueblos.” 18 Se presentó otro y dijo: “Señor, su dinero ha producido cinco veces más.” 19 También a éste le contestó: “Tú serás gobernador de cinco pueblos.”
20 »Pero otro se presentó diciendo: “Señor, aquí está su dinero. Lo guardé en un pañuelo; 21 pues tuve miedo de usted, porque usted es un hombre duro, que recoge donde no entregó y cosecha donde no sembró.” 22 Entonces le dijo el rey: “Empleado malo, con tus propias palabras te juzgo. Si sabías que soy un hombre duro, que recojo donde no entregué y cosecho donde no sembré, 23 ¿por qué no llevaste mi dinero al banco, para devolvérmelo con los intereses a mi regreso a casa?” 24 Y dijo a los que estaban allí: “Quítenle el dinero y dénselo al que ganó diez veces más.” 25 Ellos le dijeron: “Señor, ¡pero si él ya tiene diez veces más!” 26 El rey contestó: “Pues les digo que al que tiene, se le dará más; pero al que no tiene, hasta lo poco que tiene se le quitará. 27 Y en cuanto a mis enemigos que no querían tenerme por rey, tráiganlos acá y mátenlos en mi presencia.”»
Jesús entra en Jerusalén(A)
28 Después de decir esto, Jesús siguió su viaje a Jerusalén. 29 Cuando ya había llegado cerca de Betfagé y Betania, junto al monte que se llama de los Olivos, envió a dos de sus discípulos, 30 diciéndoles:
—Vayan a la aldea que está enfrente, y al llegar encontrarán un burro atado, que nadie ha montado todavía. Desátenlo y tráiganlo. 31 Y si alguien les pregunta por qué lo desatan, díganle que el Señor lo necesita.
32 Los discípulos fueron y lo encontraron todo como Jesús se lo había dicho. 33 Mientras estaban desatando el burro, los dueños les preguntaron:
—¿Por qué lo desatan?
34 Ellos contestaron:
—Porque el Señor lo necesita.
35 Y poniendo sus capas sobre el burro, se lo llevaron a Jesús y lo hicieron montar. 36 Conforme Jesús avanzaba, la gente tendía sus capas por el camino. 37 Y al acercarse a la bajada del Monte de los Olivos, todos sus seguidores comenzaron a gritar de alegría y a alabar a Dios por todos los milagros que habían visto. 38 Decían:
—¡Bendito el Rey que viene en el nombre del Señor! ¡Paz en el cielo y gloria en las alturas!
39 Entonces algunos fariseos que había entre la gente le dijeron:
—Maestro, reprende a tus seguidores.
40 Pero Jesús les contestó:
—Les digo que si éstos se callan, las piedras gritarán.
41 Cuando llegó cerca de Jerusalén, al ver la ciudad, Jesús lloró por ella, 42 diciendo: «¡Si en este día tú también entendieras lo que puede darte paz! Pero ahora eso te está escondido y no puedes verlo. 43 Pues van a venir para ti días malos, en que tus enemigos harán un muro a tu alrededor, y te rodearán y atacarán por todos lados, 44 y te destruirán por completo. Matarán a tus habitantes, y no dejarán en ti ni una piedra sobre otra, porque no reconociste el momento en que Dios vino a visitarte.»
Jesús purifica el templo(B)
45 Después de esto, Jesús entró en el templo y comenzó a echar de allí a los que estaban vendiendo, 46 y les dijo:
—En las Escrituras se dice: “Mi casa será casa de oración”, pero ustedes han hecho de ella una cueva de ladrones.
47 Todos los días Jesús enseñaba en el templo, y los jefes de los sacerdotes, los maestros de la ley y también los jefes del pueblo andaban buscando cómo matarlo. 48 Pero no encontraban la manera de hacerlo, porque toda la gente estaba pendiente de lo que él decía.

Zacchaeus Meets Jesus
19 Jesus [L entered and] was going through the city of Jericho. 2 A man was there named Zacchaeus, who was a ·very important [chief; leading] tax collector [C with oversight over other tax collectors, and so even more hated; see 18:10], and he was wealthy. 3 He ·wanted [was trying] to see who Jesus was, but he was not able because he was too short to see above the crowd. 4 He ran ahead to a place where Jesus ·would come [was about to pass], and he climbed a sycamore tree so he could see him. 5 When Jesus came to that place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down! [L For; Because] I must stay at your house today.”
6 Zacchaeus came down quickly and welcomed him ·gladly [joyfully]. 7 All the people saw this and began to ·complain [murmur; grumble], “Jesus ·is staying with [has gone in to lodge with/be the guest of] a sinner!”
8 But Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord [C the scene presumably changes here to a meal at Zacchaeus’ home], “[L Look; T Behold] I ·will give [or I am now giving] half of my possessions to the poor. And ·if I have cheated anyone [or to those I have cheated/extorted], I will pay back four times more [C a generous response, since the law required only restitution plus one-fifth; Lev. 6:1–5].”
9 Jesus said to him, “Salvation has come to this house today, because this man also ·belongs to the family [L is a son] of Abraham. 10 [L For; Because] The Son of Man came to ·find [seek out] lost people and save them.”
A Story About Three Servants(A)
11 As ·the people [L they; C either the disciples, the guests of Zacchaeus, or the larger crowd] were listening to this, Jesus told them a ·story [parable] because he was near Jerusalem and ·they thought [it seemed to them] God’s kingdom would appear immediately. 12 He said: “A ·very important man [nobleman] went to a country far away to ·be made a king [L receive a kingdom] and then to return home [C Judean kings, like Herod the Great and his son Archelaus, received their authority to rule from the emperor in Rome]. 13 So he called ten of his ·servants [slaves] and gave a coin [C Greek: mina; worth 100 denarii, or about 3 months’ wages] to each servant. He said, ‘·Do business with [Invest; Trade with] this money until I get back.’ 14 But ·the people in the kingdom [L his citizens/subjects] hated the man. So they sent a ·group [delegation; embassy] to follow him and say, ‘We don’t want this man to ·be our king [L rule/reign over us].’
15 “But the man ·became king [L received the kingdom]. When he returned home, he said, ‘Call those ·servants [slaves] who have my money so I can know how much they earned with it.’
16 “The first servant came and said, ‘Sir, ·I earned ten coins with the one you gave me [L your mina has earned ten minas].’ 17 The king said to the servant, ‘Excellent! ·You are a good servant [Good servant/slave!]. Since ·I can trust you [you have been faithful] with small things, I will let you ·rule [govern; L have authority] over ten of my cities.’
18 “The second servant said, ‘Sir, ·I earned five coins with your one [L your mina earned five minas].’ 19 The king said to this servant, ‘You can ·rule [be; take charge] over five cities.’
20 “Then another servant came in and said to the king, ‘Sir, here is your ·coin [mina] which I ·wrapped [stored away] in a ·piece of cloth [handkerchief] and hid. 21 [L For; Because] I was afraid of you, because you are a ·hard [harsh; demanding; severe] man. Bring them here and ·kill [slay; slaughter] them before me.’”
Jesus Enters Jerusalem as a King(B)
28 After Jesus said this, he went on [L ahead, going up] toward Jerusalem. 29 As Jesus came near Bethphage and Bethany, towns near the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent out two of his ·followers [disciples]. 30 He said, “Go to the town ·you can see there [ahead of you; or opposite you; C unclear whether Bethphage or Bethany]. When you enter it, you will find a ·colt [young donkey] tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here to me. 31 If anyone asks you why you are untying it, say that ·the Master [the Lord; or its Owner] needs it.”
32 The two ·followers [L who were sent] went into town and found ·the colt [or the situation] just as Jesus had told them. 33 As they were untying it, its ·owners [masters] came out and asked the followers, “Why are you untying our ·colt [young donkey]?”
34 The followers answered, “·The Master [The Lord; Its Owner] needs it.” 35 So they brought it to Jesus, threw their ·coats [garments] on the ·colt’s [young donkey’s] back, and put Jesus on it. 36 As Jesus rode toward Jerusalem, others spread their coats on the ·road [path; way] before him.
37 As he was coming close to Jerusalem, on the way down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of ·followers [disciples] began joyfully shouting praise to God for all the ·miracles [mighty works] they had seen. 38 They said,
“·God bless [Blessed is] the king who comes in the name of the Lord [Ps. 118:26]!
·There is peace [or May there be peace; L Peace] in heaven and glory ·to God [L in the highest; C either “in highest heaven” or “to the Most High God”]!”
39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, ·tell your followers not to say these things [L rebuke your disciples].”
40 But Jesus answered, “I tell you, if ·my followers didn’t say these things [L they remained silent], then the stones would ·cry out [start shouting].”
Jesus Cries for Jerusalem
41 As Jesus came near Jerusalem, he saw the city and ·cried for [wept over] it, 42 saying, “·I wish you [L If you, even you,] ·knew [recognized] today what would bring you peace. But now it is hidden from ·you [L your eyes]. 43 ·The time is coming [L For the days will come upon you] when your enemies will build ·a wall around you [ramparts against your walls] and will ·hold you in [L surround and close you in] on all sides. 44 They will ·destroy you [level you; smash you to the ground] and all your ·people [L children within your walls], and not one stone will be left on another. All this will happen because you did not recognize the time ·when God came to save you [L of your visitation; C the failure to recognize God’s “visit” in Jesus (see 1:68, 78) will result in a divine “visit” in judgment].”
Jesus Goes to the Temple(C)
45 Jesus went into the Temple and began to ·throw [drive] out the people who were selling things there. 46 He said, “It is written in the Scriptures, ‘My ·Temple [L House] will be a house for prayer [Is. 56:7].’ But you have ·changed [made] it into a ‘·hideout for robbers’ [T den of thieves; Jer. 7:11]!”
47 Jesus ·taught [was teaching] in the Temple every day. The ·leading [T chief] priests, the ·experts on the law [scribes], and some of the leaders of the people ·wanted [were looking for a way] to ·kill [destroy] Jesus. 48 But they ·did not know how they could [could not find a way to] do it, because all the people were ·listening closely to him [hanging on his every word].
