A cura de um hidrópico
14 Aconteceu, num sábado, que, entrando ele em casa de um dos principais dos fariseus para comer pão, eles o estavam observando. 2 E eis que estava ali diante dele um certo homem hidrópico. 3 E Jesus, tomando a palavra, falou aos doutores da lei e aos fariseus, dizendo: É lícito curar no sábado? 4 Eles, porém, calaram-se. E tomando-o, o curou e despediu. 5 E disse-lhes: Qual será de vós o que, caindo-lhe num poço, em dia de sábado, o jumento ou o boi, o não tire logo? 6 E nada lhe podiam replicar sobre isso.
A parábola dos primeiros assentos e dos convidados
7 E disse aos convidados uma parábola, reparando como escolhiam os primeiros assentos, dizendo-lhes: 8 Quando por alguém fores convidado às bodas, não te assentes no primeiro lugar, para que não aconteça que esteja convidado outro mais digno do que tu, 9 e, vindo o que te convidou a ti e a ele, te diga: Dá o lugar a este; e então, com vergonha, tenhas de tomar o derradeiro lugar. 10 Mas, quando fores convidado, vai e assenta-te no derradeiro lugar, para que, quando vier o que te convidou, te diga: Amigo, assenta-te mais para cima. Então, terás honra diante dos que estiverem contigo à mesa. 11 Porquanto, qualquer que a si mesmo se exaltar será humilhado, e aquele que a si mesmo se humilhar será exaltado. 12 E dizia também ao que o tinha convidado: Quando deres um jantar ou uma ceia, não chames os teus amigos, nem os teus irmãos, nem os teus parentes, nem vizinhos ricos, para que não suceda que também eles te tornem a convidar, e te seja isso recompensado. 13 Mas, quando fizeres convite, chama os pobres, aleijados, mancos e cegos 14 e serás bem-aventurado; porque eles não têm com que to recompensar; mas recompensado serás na ressurreição dos justos.
A parábola da grande ceia(A)
15 E, ouvindo isso um dos que estavam com ele à mesa, disse-lhe: Bem-aventurado o que comer pão no Reino de Deus! 16 Porém ele lhe disse: Um certo homem fez uma grande ceia e convidou a muitos. 17 E, à hora da ceia, mandou o seu servo dizer aos convidados: Vinde, que já tudo está preparado. 18 E todos à uma começaram a escusar-se. Disse-lhe o primeiro: Comprei um campo e preciso ir vê-lo; rogo-te que me hajas por escusado. 19 E outro disse: Comprei cinco juntas de bois e vou experimentá-los; rogo-te que me hajas por escusado. 20 E outro disse: Casei e, portanto, não posso ir. 21 E, voltando aquele servo, anunciou essas coisas ao seu senhor. Então, o pai de família, indignado, disse ao seu servo: Sai depressa pelas ruas e bairros da cidade e traze aqui os pobres, e os aleijados, e os mancos, e os cegos. 22 E disse o servo: Senhor, feito está como mandaste, e ainda há lugar. 23 E disse o senhor ao servo: Sai pelos caminhos e atalhos e força-os a entrar, para que a minha casa se encha. 24 Porque eu vos digo que nenhum daqueles varões que foram convidados provará a minha ceia.
A parábola acerca da providência
25 Ora, ia com ele uma grande multidão; e, voltando-se, disse-lhe: 26 Se alguém vier a mim e não aborrecer a seu pai, e mãe, e mulher, e filhos, e irmãos, e irmãs, e ainda também a sua própria vida, não pode ser meu discípulo. 27 E qualquer que não levar a sua cruz e não vier após mim não pode ser meu discípulo. 28 Pois qual de vós, querendo edificar uma torre, não se assenta primeiro a fazer as contas dos gastos, para ver se tem com que a acabar? 29 Para que não aconteça que, depois de haver posto os alicerces e não a podendo acabar, todos os que a virem comecem a escarnecer dele, 30 dizendo: Este homem começou a edificar e não pôde acabar. 31 Ou qual é o rei que, indo à guerra a pelejar contra outro rei, não se assenta primeiro a tomar conselho sobre se com dez mil pode sair ao encontro do que vem contra ele com vinte mil? 32 De outra maneira, estando o outro ainda longe, manda embaixadores e pede condições de paz. 33 Assim, pois, qualquer de vós que não renuncia a tudo quanto tem não pode ser meu discípulo.
34 Bom é o sal, mas, se ele degenerar, com que se adubará? 35 Nem presta para a terra, nem para o monturo; lançam-no fora. Quem tem ouvidos para ouvir, que ouça.

14 At nangyari, sa pagpasok niya sa bahay ng isa sa mga pinuno ng mga Fariseo nang isang sabbath upang kumain ng tinapay, at inaabangan nila siya.
2 At narito, sa kaniyang harapan ay may isang lalaking namamaga.
3 At pagsagot ni Jesus, ay nagsalita sa mga tagapagtanggol ng kautusan at sa mga Fariseo, na sinasabi, Matuwid baga o hindi na magpagaling sa sabbath?
4 Datapuwa't sila'y di nagsiimik. At siya'y tinangnan niya, at siya'y pinagaling, at siya'y pinayaon.
5 At sinabi niya sa kanila, Sino kaya sa inyo ang kung magkaroon ng isang asno o isang bakang lalake na mahulog sa hukay, at pagdaka'y hindi kukunin kahit araw ng sabbath?
6 At di na muling nakasagot sila sa kaniya sa mga bagay na ito.
7 At nagsalita siya ng isang talinghaga sa mga inanyayahan, nang mamasdan niya na kanilang pinipili ang mga pangulong luklukan; na nagsasabi sa kanila,
8 Pagka inaanyayahan ka ninomang tao sa kasalan, huwag kang uupo sa pangulong luklukan; baka mayroon siyang anyayahang lalong marangal na tao kay sa iyo,
9 At lumapit yaong naganyaya sa iyo at sa kaniya, at sabihin sa iyo, Bigyan mong puwang ang taong ito; at kung magkagayo'y magpapasimula kang mapahiya na mapalagay ka sa dakong kababababaan.
10 Kundi pagka inaanyayahan ka, ay pumaroon ka at umupo ka sa dakong kababababaan; upang kung dumating ang naganyaya sa iyo, ay sa iyo'y sabihin niya, Kaibigan pumaroon ka pa sa lalong mataas: kung magkagayo'y magkakaroon ka ng kaluwalhatian sa harap ng lahat na mga kasalo mong nangakaupo sa dulang.
11 Sapagka't ang bawa't nagmamataas ay mabababa; at ang nagpapakababa ay matataas.
12 At sinabi rin naman niya sa naganyaya sa kaniya, Pagka naghahanda ka ng isang tanghalian o ng isang hapunan, ay huwag mong tawagin ang iyong mga kaibigan, ni ang iyong mga kapatid, ni ang iyong mga kamaganak, ni ang mayayamang kapitbahay; baka ikaw naman ang kanilang muling anyayahan, at gantihan ka.
13 Datapuwa't kung maghahanda ka, ay anyayahan mo ang mga dukha, ang mga pingkaw, ang mga pilay, ang mga bulag,
14 At magiging mapalad ka; sapagka't wala silang sukat ikaganti sa iyo: sapagka't gagantihin sa iyo sa pagkabuhay na maguli ng mga ganap.
15 At nang marinig ito ng isa sa nangakaupong kasalo niya sa dulang, ay sinabi sa kaniya, Mapalad ang kakain ng tinapay sa kaharian ng Dios.
16 Datapuwa't sinabi niya sa kaniya, May isang naghanda ng isang malaking hapunan; at marami siyang inanyayahan:
17 At sa panahon ng paghapon ay sinugo niya ang kaniyang alipin, upang sabihin sa mga inanyayahan, Magsiparito kayo; sapagka't ang lahat ng mga bagay ay nahahanda na.
18 At silang lahat na parang iisa ay nangagpasimulang nangagdahilan. Sa kaniya'y sinabi ng una, Bumili ako ng isang bukid, at kailangan akong umalis at tingnan; ipinamamanhik ko sa iyo na pagpaumanhinan mo ako.
19 At sinabi ng iba, Bumili ako ng limang magkatuwang na bakang lalake, at paroroon ako upang sila'y subukin; ipinamamanhik ko sa iyo na pagpaumanhinan mo ako.
20 At sinabi ng iba, Bago akong kasal, at kaya nga hindi ako makaparoroon.
21 At dumating ang alipin, at isinaysay ang mga bagay na ito sa kaniyang panginoon. Nang magkagayon, sa galit ng puno ng sangbahayan ay sinabi sa kaniyang alipin, Pumaroon kang madali sa mga lansangan at sa mga daang makikipot ng bayan, at dalhin mo rito ang mga dukha, at ang mga pingkaw, at ang mga bulag, at ang mga pilay.
22 At sinabi ng alipin, panginoon, nagawa na ang ipinagutos mo, at gayon ma'y maluwag pa.
23 At sinabi ng panginoon sa alipin, Pumaroon ka sa mga daan at sa mga bakuran, at pilitin mo silang magsipasok, upang mapuno ang aking bahay.
24 Sapagka't sinasabi ko sa inyo na alin man sa mga taong inanyayahan ay hindi makatitikim ng aking hapunan.
25 Nagsisama nga sa kaniya ang lubhang maraming tao; at siya'y lumingon at sa kanila'y sinabi,
26 Kung ang sinomang tao'y pumaparito sa akin, at hindi napopoot sa kaniyang sariling ama, at ina, at asawang babae, at mga anak, at mga kapatid na lalake, at mga kapatid na babae, oo, at pati sa kaniyang sariling buhay man, ay hindi siya maaaring maging alagad ko.
27 Sinomang hindi nagdadala ng kaniyang sariling krus, at sumusunod sa akin, ay hindi maaaring maging alagad ko.
28 Sapagka't alin sa inyo, ang kung ibig magtayo ng isang moog, ay hindi muna uupo at tatayahin ang halagang magugugol kung mayroong maipagtatapos?
29 Baka kung mailagay na niya ang patibayan, at hindi matapos, ang lahat ng mga makakita ay mangagpasimulang siya'y libakin,
30 Na sabihin, Nagpasimula ang taong ito na magtayo, at hindi nakayang tapusin.
31 O aling hari, na kung sasalubong sa pakikidigma sa ibang hari, ay hindi muna uupo at sasangguni kung makahaharap siya na may sangpung libo sa dumarating na laban sa kaniya na may dalawangpung libo?
32 O kung hindi, samantalang malayo pa ang isa, ay magsusugo siya ng isang sugo, at hihilingin ang mga kailangan sa pagkakasundo.
33 Kaya nga sinoman sa inyo na hindi tumanggi sa lahat niyang tinatangkilik, ay di maaaring maging alagad ko.
34 Mabuti nga ang asin: datapuwa't kung ang asin ay tumabang, ay ano ang ipagpapaalat?
35 Walang kabuluhang maging sa lupa kahit sa tapunan man ng dumi: itinatapon sa labas. Ang may mga pakinig upang ipakinig, ay makinig.

2 And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy.
3 And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?
4 And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go;
5 And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?
6 And they could not answer him again to these things.
7 And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them.
8 When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;
9 And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.
10 But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.
11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
12 Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.
13 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:
14 And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.
15 And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.
16 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:
17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.
18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.
19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.
20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.
21 So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.
22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.
23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
24 For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.
25 And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,
26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,
30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?
32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.
33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
34 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?
35 It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Jesus at a Pharisee’s House(A)
14 One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee,(B) he was being carefully watched.(C) 2 There in front of him was a man suffering from abnormal swelling of his body. 3 Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in the law,(D) “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?”(E) 4 But they remained silent. So taking hold of the man, he healed him and sent him on his way.
5 Then he asked them, “If one of you has a child[a] or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull it out?”(F) 6 And they had nothing to say.
7 When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table,(G) he told them this parable: 8 “When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. 9 If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. 10 But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests. 11 For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”(H)
12 Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. 13 But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,(I) 14 and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”(J)
The Parable of the Great Banquet(K)
15 When one of those at the table with him heard this, he said to Jesus, “Blessed is the one who will eat at the feast(L) in the kingdom of God.”(M)
16 Jesus replied: “A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. 17 At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’
18 “But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’
19 “Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’
20 “Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’
21 “The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’(N)
22 “‘Sir,’ the servant said, ‘what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.’
23 “Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full. 24 I tell you, not one of those who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.’”(O)
The Cost of Being a Disciple
25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: 26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.(P) 27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.(Q)
28 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? 29 For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, 30 saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’
31 “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.(R)
34 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?(S) 35 It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out.(T)
“Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(U)
