1 尊敬的提阿非罗先生，因为有许多人，已经把在我们中间成就了的事， 2 按照起初亲眼看见的传道人所传给我们的，编着成书； 3 我已经把这些事从头考查过，认为也应该按着次序写给你， 4 让你晓得所学到的道理，都是确实的。
天使预言施洗约翰出生
5 犹太王希律在位的日子，亚比雅班里有一个祭司，名叫撒迦利亚，他妻子是亚伦的后代，名叫以利沙伯。 6 他们在 神面前都是义人，遵行主的一切诫命规条，无可指摘， 7 只是没有孩子，因为以利沙伯不生育，二人又都上了年纪。
8 有一次，撒迦利亚在 神面前按着班次执行祭司的职务， 9 照祭司的惯例抽中了签，进入主的圣殿烧香。 10 烧香的时候，众人都在外面祈祷。 11 有主的使者站在香坛右边，向他显现。 12 撒迦利亚一见就惊慌起来，十分害怕。 13 天使说：“撒迦利亚，不要怕，因为你的祈求已蒙垂听，你妻子以利沙伯要给你生一个儿子，你要给他起名叫约翰。 14 你必欢喜快乐，许多人因他出生，也必喜乐。 15 他在主面前要被尊为大，淡酒浓酒都不喝，未出母腹就被圣灵充满。 16 他要使许多以色列人转向主他们的 神。 17 他必有以利亚的灵和能力，行在主的前面，叫父亲的心转向儿女，叫悖逆的转向义人的意念，为主安排那预备好了的人民。” 18 撒迦利亚对天使说：“我怎么能知道这事呢？我已经老了，我妻子也上了年纪。” 19 天使回答：“我是站在 神面前的加百列，奉差遣向你说话，报给你这好消息。 20 看吧！到了时候我的话必要应验；因为你不信我的话，你必成为哑巴，直到这些事成就的那一天，才能说话。”
21 众人等候撒迦利亚；因他在圣殿里迟迟不出来，觉得奇怪。 22 等到他出来，却不能讲话，竟成了哑巴，不断地向他们打手式，他们就知道他在圣殿里见了异象。 23 供职的日子满了，他就回家去。 24 过了几天，他妻子以利沙伯怀了孕，隐藏了五个月，说： 25 “主在眷顾的日子，这样看待我，要把我在人间的羞耻除掉。”
天使预言耶稣降生
26 到了第六个月，天使加百列奉 神差遣，往加利利的拿撒勒城去， 27 到了一个童贞女那里，她已经和大卫家一个名叫约瑟的人订了婚，童贞女的名字是马利亚。 28 天使进去，对她说：“恭喜！蒙大恩的女子，主与你同在！” 29 她却因这话惊慌起来，反复思想这样祝贺是甚么意思。 30 天使说：“马利亚，不要怕！因你已从 神那里蒙了恩。 31 你将怀孕生子，要给他起名叫耶稣。 32 他将要被尊为大，称为至高者的儿子，主 神要把他祖大卫的王位赐给他， 33 他要作王统治雅各家，直到永远，他的国没有穷尽。” 34 马利亚对天使说：“我还没有出嫁（“我还没有出嫁”原文作“我不认识男人”），怎能有这事呢？” 35 天使回答：“圣灵要临到你，至高者的能力要覆庇你，因此那将要出生的圣者，必称为 神的儿子。 36 你看，你亲戚以利沙伯，被称为不生育的，在老年也怀了男胎，现在已是第六个月了， 37 因为在 神没有一件事是不可能的。” 38 马利亚说：“我是主的婢女，愿照你的话成就在我身上！”天使就离开她去了。
马利亚往见以利沙伯
39 后来，马利亚就起身，急忙向山地去，来到犹大的一座城， 40 进了撒迦利亚的家，向以利沙伯问安。 41 以利沙伯一听见马利亚的问安，腹中的胎儿就跳动，以利沙伯也被圣灵充满， 42 就高声说：“你在女子中是有福的！你腹中的胎儿也是有福的！ 43 我主的母亲竟然到我这里来。这事怎会临到我呢？ 44 你看，你问安的声音一进我的耳朵，我腹中的胎儿就欢喜跳跃。 45 这相信主传给她的话必要成就的女子是有福的。”

46 马利亚说：
“我心尊主为大，
47 我灵以 神我的救主为乐，
48 因为他垂顾他婢女的卑微，
看哪！今后万代都要称我为有福。
49 全能者为我行了大事，他的名为圣；
50 他的怜悯世世代代归与敬畏他的人。
51 他用膀臂施展大能，
驱散心里妄想的狂傲人。
52 他使有权能的失位，
叫卑微的升高，
53 让饥饿的得饱美食，
使富足的空手回去。
54 他扶助了他的仆人以色列，
为要记念他的怜悯，
55 正如他向我们列祖所说的，
恩待亚伯拉罕和他的后裔，直到永远。”
56 马利亚和以利沙伯同住约有三个月，就回家去了。
施洗约翰出生
57 以利沙伯的产期到了，生了一个儿子。 58 邻里亲戚，听见主向她大施怜悯，都和她一同欢乐。 59 到了第八天，他们来给孩子行割礼，要照他父亲的名字，叫他撒迦利亚。 60 但他母亲说：“不可，要叫他约翰。” 61 他们说：“你亲族里没有叫这名字的。” 62 他们就向孩子的父亲打手式，看他要叫他甚么。 63 他要了一块写字版，写上说：“他的名字是约翰。”众人都希奇。 64 撒迦利亚的口舌立刻开了，就出声称颂 神。 65 住在周围的人都害怕，这一切事传遍了整个犹太山地， 66 凡听见的就把这些事放在心里，说：“这孩子将会成为怎样的人呢？因为主的手与他同在。”
撒迦利亚的预言
67 他的父亲撒迦利亚被圣灵充满，预言说：
68 “主，以色列的 神，是应当称颂的，
因他眷顾自己的子民，施行救赎，
69 在他仆人大卫家中，
为我们兴起救恩的角，
70 正如主自古以来藉圣先知口中所说的，
71 救我们脱离仇敌，和恨我们的人的手；
72 向我们列祖施怜悯，记念他的圣约，
73 就是他对我们祖先亚伯拉罕所起的誓，
74 把我们从仇敌手中救拔出来，
叫我们可以坦然无惧，用圣洁公义，
75 在他面前一生一世敬拜他。
76 孩子啊，你要称为至高者的先知，
因为你要行在主的面前，预备他的路，
77 使他的子民，因罪得赦，就知道救恩。
78 因我们 神的怜悯，
使清晨的阳光从高天临到我们，
79 光照那坐在黑暗中死荫里的人，
引导我们的脚，走上平安的路。”
80 这孩子渐渐长大，心灵健壮，住在旷野，直到他在以色列人中公开露面的日子。

Innledning
1 1-2 Kjære Teofilus! Mange har allerede skrevet om Jesus og hans liv og alt som har skjedd iblant oss. Deres fortellinger bygger på det vi har hørt fra øyenvitnene som var med fra begynnelsen av, og som siden spredde budskapet om Jesus. 3 Nå vil også jeg skrive ned alt i sin sammenheng for deg. Jeg har gått nøye gjennom alle fakta helt fra begynnelsen av. 4 Det har jeg gjort for at du skal forstå at du kan stole på alle opplysningene du har fått. Her er fortellingen min:
Engelen bærer bud om at døperen Johannes skal bli født
5 Da Herodes var konge i Judea, var det en prest der som het Sakarja. Han tilhørte Abia sin avdeling blant prestene. Kona hans Elisabet var en slektning av Aron, han som var stamfar til alle prester blant Israels folk. 6 Sakarja og Elisabet var begge nøye med å være lydige mot Herren Gud og følge alle hans bud og forskrifter. 7 Dessverre hadde de ingen barn, for Elisabet kunne ikke få barn. Begge hadde nå blitt gamle.
8-9 En dag da det arbeidslaget som Sakarja var en del av, tjente som prester i templet, kastet de som vanlig lodd om hvem som skulle få gå inn og tenne røkelse for Herren Gud. Loddet falt på Sakarja. 10 Mens ofringen pågikk sto folket utenfor på tempelplassen og ba.
11-12 Plutselig, mens Sakarja var opptatt med oppgaven, fikk han se en engel fra Herren stå til høyre for alteret. Han ble fryktelig redd. 13 Men engelen sa: ”Vær ikke redd, Sakarja! Jeg har kommet for å fortelle deg at Herren vil svare på bønnene dine. Du og din kone Elisabet skal få en sønn. Du skal kalle ham Johannes[a]. 14 Hans fødsel vil gjøre dere svært glade og lykkelige. Mange andre skal også glede seg over hans fødsel. 15 Han skal bli en av Herrens store tjenere. Vin eller sterke drikker skal han aldri smake, og han skal bli fylt med Guds Hellige Ånd før han er født. 16 Han skal få mange blant Israels folk til å vende om til Herren, deres Gud. 17 Han vil bli en mann av samme kraftfulle natur og Ånd som Elia[b] var, og han skal bli en forløper til Messias[c], den lovede kongen, og forberede folket på ankomsten hans. Han skal lære fedrene å elske barna sine, og hjelpe de opprørske til å gjøre som Herren vil.”
18 Sakarja sa til engelen: ”Hvordan kan jeg være sikker på at dette virkelig kommer til å skje? Jeg er jo en gammel mann, og Elisabet kan ikke lenger få barn.”
19 Da sa engelen: ”Jeg er Gabriel, og jeg står foran Guds trone. Det er han som har sendt meg til deg med denne glade nyheten. 20 Men etter som du ikke trodde på meg, skal du bli stum og ikke kunne snakke før barnet er født. For det jeg har sagt, skal bli virkelighet på den tiden Gud har bestemt.”
21 Utenfor sto folket og ventet på at Sakarja skulle komme ut, og de begynte å lure på hvorfor han drøyde så lenge. 22 Da han endelig kom ut, kunne han ikke snakke, men de forsto av faktene han laget, at han måtte ha sett et syn der inne.
23 Da Sakarja hadde avsluttet sin tjeneste i templet dro han hjem igjen. 24 Like etterpå ble kona hans, Elisabet, gravid og holdt seg borte fra folk i fem måneder.
25 ”Tenk så god Herren er”, jublet hun. ”Han har latt meg bli gravid, slik at jeg slipper å gå skamfull over å ikke ha fått noe barn.”
Engelen bærer bud om at Jesus skal bli født
26 Da Elisabet var gravid i sin sjette måned, sendte Gud engelen Gabriel til en ung jente i byen Nasaret i Galilea. 27 Navnet hennes var Maria, og hun var trolovet med en mann som het Josef, som tilhørte etterkommerne av kong David.
28 Engelen Gabriel viste seg nå for henne og sa: ”Jeg hilser deg, Maria! Herren fryder seg over deg, og han er med deg!”
29 Maria ble virkelig forskrekket og undret seg på hva engelen kunne mene. 30 Men engelen sa: ”Vær ikke redd, Maria! Gud har noe godt i vente for deg. 31 Du skal bli gravid og føde en sønn, og du skal kalle ham Jesus. 32 Han skal være stor og bli kalt Guds sønn. Herren Gud skal gjøre ham til konge, for han skal arve sin stamfar Davids trone. 33 Han skal regjere over Israels folk[d] for evig, og hans kongsmakt skal aldri ta slutt.”
34 Da spurte Maria engelen: ”Men hvordan skal jeg kunne bli gravid? Jeg har jo ikke vært sammen med noen mann.”
35 Engelen svarte: ”Guds Hellige Ånd skal komme over deg, og Guds kraft skal omslutte deg. Derfor skal det barnet som du føder være hellig og bli kalt Guds sønn. 36 Din slektning Elisabet venter også barn, og det til tross for sin høye alder. Hun, som de sa var steril, er nå i sin sjette måned! 37 Ingen ting er umulig for Gud!”
38 Maria sa: ”Jeg vil være lydig mot Herren Gud og tjene ham. La det bli som du har sagt.” Etter dette forsvant engelen.
Maria besøker Elisabet
39-40 Noen dager seinere skyndte Maria seg av sted til Elisabet. Hun dro opp til den byen som lå i fjellene Judea der Sakarja bodde, og gikk inn i huset og hilste.
41 Da Elisabet hørte Maria sin hilsen, sparket barnet i magen hennes, og hun ble fylt av Guds Hellige Ånd. 42 Høyt ropte hun til Maria: ”Gud har gitt deg det mest vidunderlige en kvinne kan få, og all velsignelse har han gitt til barnet ditt. 43 Vilken ære det er at moren til min Herre kommer på besøk. 44 I samme øyeblikk som du hilste på meg, og jeg hørte stemmen din, sparket barnet av glede i magen min. 45 Du kan være lykkelig som stolte på Herren Gud, for han skal innfri løftet sitt til deg.”
46 Maria svarte:
”Jeg vil hylle Herren av hele hjertet mitt!
47 Jeg jubler over Gud, han som frelste meg!
48 Han har vendt sin oppmerksomhet mot meg, og lar en svak kvinne få tjene ham.
Fra denne stund skal menneskene i alle tider fortelle om min lykke.
49 Han, den hellige og mektige, har gjort fantastiske ting for meg.
50 Han viser evig medfølelse med alle dem som tilber ham.
51 Hans makt er stor, han er full av kraft! De stolte og selvsikre bøyer han.
52 Herskere styrter han ned fra tronen deres, men de ydmyke opphøyer han.
53 Han metter de sultne med sine gaver, men de rike driver han bort med tomme hender.
54 Han hjelper folket sitt Israel! Han glemmer ikke det løfte han ga til forfedrene våre,
55 for han lovet vår stamfar Abraham og etterkommerne hans alltid å være god mot dem.”
56 Maria ble værende hos Elisabet omkring tre måneder og vendte da tilbake til hjemmet sitt.
Døperen Johannes blir født
57 Ventetiden for Elisabet var nå slutt, og tiden for å føde var kommet. Hun fikk en gutt. 58 Nyheten om hvordan Herren Gud hadde vært god mot henne spredde seg raskt blant naboer og slektninger, og alle gledet seg på hennes vegne.
59 Da gutten var åtte dager gammel, samlet alle slektningene og vennene seg for å være med i seremonien da de omskar gutten. Alle trodde at han skulle få navnet Sakarja etter faren sin. 60 Men Elisabet sa: ”Nei, han skal hete Johannes.”
61 ”Hvorfor det?” spurte de. ”Det finnes jo ingen annen i slekten din som heter det.” 62 De vendte seg mot faren og forsøkte ved hjelp av tegn og fakter å spørre ham hva han mente om navnet.
63 Da ba ham om noe å skrive på, og til alles forbauselse skrev han: ”Han skal hete Johannes.” 64 I samme øyeblikk kunne Sakarja snakke igjen, og han begynte å hylle og tilbe Gud.
65 Alle som bodde i nærheten, ble helt forskrekket, og nyheten om hva som hadde skjedd, spredde seg i fjellbygdene i Judea. 66 De som hørte om det som hadde skjedd husket det godt og spurte seg etter som tiden gikk: ”Hva kommer det til å bli av dette barnet når han vokser opp? Herren Gud er med ham på en spesiell måte.”
67 Og Sakarja, som var far til barnet, ble fylt av Guds Hellige Ånd og bar fram et budskap fra Gud med disse ordene:
68 ”La oss hylle Herren, Israels Gud, for han kommer til folket sitt og setter det fri.
69 Han sender oss en mektig frelser fra sin tjener kong Davids slekt,
70 nøyaktig som han for lenge siden lovet ved profetene sine,
71 en som kan frelse oss fra våre fiender,
ja, frelse oss fra alle som hater oss.
72-73 Gud har vært god mot forfedrene våre,
og han holder sitt Hellige løfte til Abraham:
74 At vi skal bli satt fri fra våre fiender og få tjene Gud uten frykt,
75 og at vi skal få tilhøre Gud og være skyldfri innfor ham for evig.
76 Og du, min lille sønn, du skal bli kalt en Guds profet,
for du skal holde fram Guds budskap fra Herren og rydde vei for ham.
77 Du skal vise hans folk at frelsen er kommet,
og at de kan få tilgivelse for syndene sine.
78-79 På grunn av Guds kjærlighet og omsorg for oss,
skal et lys komme ned til oss fra det høye
og skinne for alle som lever i mørke og dødens frykt.
Dette lys skal lede oss på fredens vei.”
80 Johannes vokste opp og ble åndelig sterk. Han holdt til ute i ødemarken til den dagen da han skulle begynne å forkynne for folket i Israel.

1 Muchos han emprendido la tarea de escribir la historia de los hechos que Dios ha llevado a cabo entre nosotros, 2 según nos los transmitieron quienes desde el comienzo fueron testigos presenciales y después recibieron el encargo de anunciar el mensaje. 3 Yo también, excelentísimo Teófilo, lo he investigado todo con cuidado desde el principio, y me ha parecido conveniente escribirte estas cosas ordenadamente, 4 para que conozcas bien la verdad de lo que te han enseñado.
Un ángel anuncia el nacimiento de Juan el Bautista
5 En el tiempo en que Herodes era rey del país de los judíos, vivía un sacerdote llamado Zacarías, perteneciente al turno de Abías. Su esposa, llamada Isabel, descendía de Aarón. 6 Los dos eran justos delante de Dios y obedecían los mandatos y leyes del Señor de manera intachable. 7 Pero no tenían hijos, porque Isabel era estéril; además, los dos eran ya muy ancianos.
8 Un día en que al grupo sacerdotal de Zacarías le tocó el turno de oficiar delante de Dios, 9 según era costumbre entre los sacerdotes, le tocó en suerte a Zacarías entrar en el santuario del templo del Señor para quemar incienso. 10 Mientras se quemaba el incienso, todo el pueblo estaba orando afuera. 11 En esto se le apareció a Zacarías un ángel del Señor, de pie al lado derecho del altar del incienso. 12 Al ver al ángel, Zacarías se quedó sorprendido y lleno de miedo. 13 Pero el ángel le dijo:
—Zacarías, no tengas miedo, porque Dios ha oído tu oración, y tu esposa Isabel te va a dar un hijo, al que pondrás por nombre Juan. 14 Tú te llenarás de gozo, y muchos se alegrarán de su nacimiento, 15 porque tu hijo va a ser grande delante del Señor. No tomará vino ni licor, y estará lleno del Espíritu Santo desde antes de nacer. 16 Hará que muchos de la nación de Israel se vuelvan al Señor su Dios. 17 Este Juan irá delante del Señor, con el espíritu y el poder del profeta Elías, para reconciliar a los padres con los hijos y para que los rebeldes aprendan a obedecer. De este modo preparará al pueblo para recibir al Señor.
18 Zacarías preguntó al ángel:
—¿Cómo puedo estar seguro de esto? Porque yo soy muy anciano y mi esposa también.
19 El ángel le contestó:
—Yo soy Gabriel, y estoy al servicio de Dios; él me mandó a hablar contigo y darte estas buenas noticias. 20 Pero ahora, como no has creído lo que te he dicho, vas a quedarte mudo; no podrás hablar hasta que, a su debido tiempo, suceda todo esto.
21 Mientras tanto, la gente estaba afuera esperando a Zacarías y preguntándose por qué tardaba tanto en salir del santuario. 22 Cuando al fin salió, no les podía hablar; entonces se dieron cuenta de que había tenido una visión en el santuario, pues les hablaba por señas; y siguió así, sin poder hablar.
23 Cumplido su servicio, Zacarías se fue a su casa. 24 Después de esto, su esposa Isabel quedó encinta, y durante cinco meses no salió de su casa, pensando: 25 «El Señor me ha hecho esto ahora, para que la gente ya no me desprecie.»
Un ángel anuncia el nacimiento de Jesús
26 A los seis meses, Dios mandó al ángel Gabriel a un pueblo de Galilea llamado Nazaret, 27 donde vivía una joven llamada María; era virgen, pero estaba comprometida para casarse con un hombre llamado José, descendiente del rey David. 28 El ángel entró en el lugar donde ella estaba, y le dijo:
—¡Salve, llena de gracia! El Señor está contigo.
29 María se sorprendió de estas palabras, y se preguntaba qué significaría aquel saludo. 30 El ángel le dijo:
—María, no tengas miedo, pues tú gozas del favor de Dios. 31 Ahora vas a quedar encinta: tendrás un hijo, y le pondrás por nombre Jesús. 32 Será un gran hombre, al que llamarán Hijo del Dios altísimo, y Dios el Señor lo hará Rey, como a su antepasado David, 33 para que reine por siempre sobre el pueblo de Jacob. Su reinado no tendrá fin.
34 María preguntó al ángel:
—¿Cómo podrá suceder esto, si no vivo con ningún hombre?
35 El ángel le contestó:
—El Espíritu Santo vendrá sobre ti, y el poder del Dios altísimo se posará sobre ti. Por eso, el niño que va a nacer será llamado Santo e Hijo de Dios. 36 También tu parienta Isabel va a tener un hijo, a pesar de que es anciana; la que decían que no podía tener hijos, está encinta desde hace seis meses. 37 Para Dios no hay nada imposible.
38 Entonces María dijo:
—Yo soy esclava del Señor; que Dios haga conmigo como me has dicho.
Con esto, el ángel se fue.
María visita a Isabel
39 Por aquellos días, María se fue de prisa a un pueblo de la región montañosa de Judea, 40 y entró en la casa de Zacarías y saludó a Isabel. 41 Cuando Isabel oyó el saludo de María, la criatura se le estremeció en el vientre, y ella quedó llena del Espíritu Santo. 42 Entonces, con voz muy fuerte, dijo:
—¡Dios te ha bendecido más que a todas las mujeres, y ha bendecido a tu hijo! 43 ¿Quién soy yo, para que venga a visitarme la madre de mi Señor? 44 Pues tan pronto como oí tu saludo, mi hijo se estremeció de alegría en mi vientre. 45 ¡Dichosa tú por haber creído que han de cumplirse las cosas que el Señor te ha dicho!
46 María dijo:
«Mi alma alaba la grandeza del Señor;
47 mi espíritu se alegra en Dios mi Salvador.
48 Porque Dios ha puesto sus ojos en mí, su humilde esclava,
y desde ahora siempre me llamarán dichosa;
49 porque el Todopoderoso ha hecho en mí grandes cosas.
¡Santo es su nombre!
50 Dios tiene siempre misericordia
de quienes lo reverencian.
51 Actuó con todo su poder:
deshizo los planes de los orgullosos,
52 derribó a los reyes de sus tronos
y puso en alto a los humildes.
53 Llenó de bienes a los hambrientos
y despidió a los ricos con las manos vacías.
54 Ayudó al pueblo de Israel, su siervo,
y no se olvidó de tratarlo con misericordia.
55 Así lo había prometido a nuestros antepasados,
a Abraham y a sus futuros descendientes.»
56 María se quedó con Isabel unos tres meses, y después regresó a su casa.
Nacimiento de Juan el Bautista
57 Al cumplirse el tiempo en que Isabel debía dar a luz, tuvo un hijo. 58 Sus vecinos y parientes fueron a felicitarla cuando supieron que el Señor había sido tan bueno con ella. 59 A los ocho días, llevaron a circuncidar al niño, y querían ponerle el nombre de su padre, Zacarías. 60 Pero su madre dijo:
—No. Tiene que llamarse Juan.
61 Le contestaron:
—No hay nadie en tu familia con ese nombre.

1 Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled[a] among us, 2 just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first(B) were eyewitnesses(C) and servants of the word.(D) 3 With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account(E) for you, most excellent(F) Theophilus,(G) 4 so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.(H)
The Birth of John the Baptist Foretold
5 In the time of Herod king of Judea(I) there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah;(J) his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron. 6 Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commands and decrees blamelessly.(K) 7 But they were childless because Elizabeth was not able to conceive, and they were both very old.
8 Once when Zechariah’s division was on duty and he was serving as priest before God,(L) 9 he was chosen by lot,(M) according to the custom of the priesthood, to go into the temple of the Lord and burn incense.(N) 10 And when the time for the burning of incense came, all the assembled worshipers were praying outside.(O)
11 Then an angel(P) of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense.(Q) 12 When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear.(R) 13 But the angel said to him: “Do not be afraid,(S) Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John.(T) 14 He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth,(U) 15 for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink,(V) and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit(W) even before he is born.(X) 16 He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. 17 And he will go on before the Lord,(Y) in the spirit and power of Elijah,(Z) to turn the hearts of the parents to their children(AA) and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”(AB)
18 Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this?(AC) I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.”(AD)
19 The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel.(AE) I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news. 20 And now you will be silent and not able to speak(AF) until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.”
21 Meanwhile, the people were waiting for Zechariah and wondering why he stayed so long in the temple. 22 When he came out, he could not speak to them. They realized he had seen a vision in the temple, for he kept making signs(AG) to them but remained unable to speak.
23 When his time of service was completed, he returned home. 24 After this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant and for five months remained in seclusion. 25 “The Lord has done this for me,” she said. “In these days he has shown his favor and taken away my disgrace(AH) among the people.”
The Birth of Jesus Foretold
26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel(AI) to Nazareth,(AJ) a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph,(AK) a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”
29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid,(AL) Mary; you have found favor with God.(AM) 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.(AN) 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.(AO) The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,(AP) 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom(AQ) will never end.”(AR)
34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”
35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you,(AS) and the power of the Most High(AT) will overshadow you. So the holy one(AU) to be born will be called[b] the Son of God.(AV) 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child(AW) in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. 37 For no word from God will ever fail.”(AX)
38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.
Mary Visits Elizabeth
39 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea,(AY) 40 where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.(AZ) 42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women,(BA) and blessed is the child you will bear! 43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord(BB) should come to me? 44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. 45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”

46 And Mary said:
“My soul glorifies the Lord(BD)
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,(BE)
48 for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.(BF)
From now on all generations will call me blessed,(BG)
49 for the Mighty One has done great things(BH) for me—
holy is his name.(BI)
50 His mercy extends to those who fear him,

just as he promised our ancestors.”
56 Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home.
The Birth of John the Baptist
57 When it was time for Elizabeth to have her baby, she gave birth to a son. 58 Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her great mercy, and they shared her joy.
59 On the eighth day they came to circumcise(BQ) the child, and they were going to name him after his father Zechariah, 60 but his mother spoke up and said, “No! He is to be called John.”(BR)
61 They said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who has that name.”
62 Then they made signs(BS) to his father, to find out what he would like to name the child. 63 He asked for a writing tablet, and to everyone’s astonishment he wrote, “His name is John.”(BT) 64 Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue set free, and he began to speak,(BU) praising God. 65 All the neighbors were filled with awe, and throughout the hill country of Judea(BV) people were talking about all these things. 66 Everyone who heard this wondered about it, asking, “What then is this child going to be?” For the Lord’s hand was with him.(BW)
Zechariah’s Song
67 His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit(BX) and prophesied:(BY)

26 伊丽莎白怀孕六个月的时候，天使加百列又奉上帝的命令到加利利的拿撒勒， 27 去见一位童贞女，她叫玛丽亚。玛丽亚已经和大卫的后裔约瑟订了婚。
28 天使到了玛丽亚那里，说：“恭喜你，蒙大恩的女子，主与你同在！”
29 玛丽亚听了觉得十分困惑，反复思想这话的意思。
30 天使对她说：“玛丽亚，不要害怕，你在上帝面前已经蒙恩了。 31 你要怀孕生子，并给祂取名叫耶稣。 32 祂伟大无比，将被称为至高者的儿子，主上帝要把祂祖先大卫的王位赐给祂。 33 祂要永远统治以色列[a]，祂的国度永无穷尽。”
34 玛丽亚对天使说：“这怎么可能呢？我还是童贞女。”
35 天使回答说：“圣灵要临到你身上，至高者的能力要荫庇你，所以你要生的那圣婴必称为上帝的儿子。 36 看啊，你的亲戚伊丽莎白年纪老迈，一向不能生育，现在已经怀男胎六个月了。 37 因为上帝无所不能。”

46 玛丽亚说：
“我的心尊主为大，
47 我的灵因我的救主上帝而欢喜，
48 因祂眷顾我这卑微的婢女，
从今以后，
世世代代都要称我是有福的。
49 全能者在我身上行了奇事，
祂的名是神圣的。
50 祂怜悯敬畏祂的人，
直到世世代代。
51 祂伸出臂膀，施展大能，
驱散心骄气傲的人。
52 祂使当权者失势，
叫谦卑的人升高。
53 祂使饥饿的得饱足，
叫富足的空手而去。
54 祂扶助了自己的仆人以色列，
55 祂要施怜悯给亚伯拉罕和他的子孙，

正如祂对我们祖先的应许。”
56 玛丽亚和伊丽莎白同住了约三个月，便回家去了。
施洗者约翰出生
57 伊丽莎白的产期到了，生下一个儿子。 58 亲戚和邻居听见主向她大施怜悯，都和她一同欢乐。 59 到了第八天，他们来给孩子行割礼，想照他父亲的名字给他取名叫撒迦利亚。
60 但伊丽莎白说：“不！要叫他约翰。”
61 他们说：“你们家族中没有人用这个名字啊！” 62 他们便向他父亲打手势，问他要给孩子起什么名字。 63 撒迦利亚就要了一块写字板，写上：“他的名字叫约翰。”大家看了都很惊奇。 64 就在那时，撒迦利亚恢复了说话的能力，便开口赞美上帝。 65 住在周围的人都很惧怕，这消息很快就传遍了整个犹太山区。 66 听见的人都在想：“这孩子将来会怎样呢？因为主与他同在。”
撒迦利亚的预言
67 孩子的父亲撒迦利亚被圣灵充满，便预言说：
68 “主——以色列的上帝当受称颂，
因祂眷顾、救赎了自己的子民，
69 在祂仆人大卫的家族中为我们兴起了一位大能的拯救者[b]，
70 正如祂从亘古借着祂圣先知们的口所说的。
71 祂要从仇敌和一切恨我们之人手中拯救我们。

持守自己的圣约，
73 就是祂对我们的先祖亚伯拉罕所起的誓，
74 要把我们从仇敌手中拯救出来，

因为你要走在主的前面，
为祂预备道路，
