David skrev denna psalm vid det tillfälle då Sifs män försökte förråda honom och överlämna honom till Saul.1-3 Gud, du är en mäktig Gud. Fräls mig genom din stora kraft! Befria mig genom din makt!

4 Lyssna till min bön,

5 för våldsamma män, som inte bryr sig om dig, anfaller mig, och dessa grymma män försöker ta mitt liv.

6 Men jag vet att Gud är min hjälpare. Han är en av mina vänner.

7 Han ser till att allt det onda som mina fiender gör kommer över dem själva. Ja, Herre, gör slut på dessa ogudaktiga män för du håller alltid vad du lovat!

8 Med glädje kommer jag med mina offer till dig. Jag vill prisa dig, Herre, för du är god.

9 Gud har befriat mig ur alla mina svårigheter och jag har fått se mina fiender besegrade.

54 Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by thy strength.

2 Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth.

3 For strangers are risen up against me, and oppressors seek after my soul: they have not set God before them. Selah.

4 Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is with them that uphold my soul.

5 He shall reward evil unto mine enemies: cut them off in thy truth.

6 I will freely sacrifice unto thee: I will praise thy name, O Lord; for it is good.

7 For he hath delivered me out of all trouble: and mine eye hath seen his desire upon mine enemies.

For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A maskil[b] of David. When the Ziphites(A) had gone to Saul and said, “Is not David hiding among us?”

1 Save me(B), O God, by your name;(C)
    vindicate me by your might.(D)
2 Hear my prayer, O God;(E)
    listen to the words of my mouth.

3 Arrogant foes are attacking me;(F)
    ruthless people(G) are trying to kill me(H)—
    people without regard for God.[c](I)

4 Surely God is my help;(J)
    the Lord is the one who sustains me.(K)

5 Let evil recoil(L) on those who slander me;
    in your faithfulness(M) destroy them.

6 I will sacrifice a freewill offering(N) to you;
    I will praise(O) your name, Lord, for it is good.(P)
7 You have delivered me(Q) from all my troubles,
    and my eyes have looked in triumph on my foes.(R)
