2 Siya'y umiiyak na lubha sa gabi, at ang mga luha niya ay dumadaloy sa kaniyang mga pisngi; sa lahat ng mangingibig sa kaniya ay walang umaliw sa kaniya: ginawan siya ng kataksilan ng lahat ng kaniyang mga kaibigan; sila'y naging kaniyang mga kaaway.
3 Ang Juda ay pumasok sa pagkabihag dahil sa pagdadalamhati, at sa kabigatan ng paglilingkod; siya'y tumatahan sa gitna ng mga bansa, siya'y walang masumpungang kapahingahan; inabot siya ng lahat na manghahabol sa kaniya sa mga gipit.

7 Naaalaala ng Jerusalem sa kaarawan ng kaniyang pagdadalamhati at ng kaniyang mga karalitaan ang lahat niyang naging maligayang bagay ng mga kaarawan nang una: nang mahulog ang kaniyang bayan sa kamay ng kalaban, at walang sumaklolo sa kaniya, nakita siya ng mga kalaban, tinuya nila ang kaniyang mga pagkasira.

12 Wala bagang anoman sa inyo, sa inyong lahat na nagsisipagdaan? Inyong masdan, at inyong tingnan kung may anomang kapanglawan na gaya ng aking kapanglawan, na nagawa sa akin, na idinalamhati sa akin ng Panginoon sa kaarawan ng kaniyang mabangis na galit.
13 Mula sa itaas ay nagsugo siya ng apoy sa aking mga buto, at mga pinananaigan; kaniyang ipinagladlad ng silo ang aking mga paa, kaniyang ibinalik ako: kaniyang ipinahamak ako at pinapanglupaypay buong araw.
14 Pamatok ng aking mga pagsalangsang ay hinigpit ng kaniyang kamay; mga nagkalakiplakip, nagsiabot sa aking leeg; kaniyang pinanglupaypay ang aking kalakasan: ibinigay ako ng Panginoon sa kanilang mga kamay, laban sa mga hindi ko matatayuan.
15 Iniuwi ng Panginoon sa wala ang lahat na aking mga makapangyarihang lalake sa gitna ko; siya'y tumawag ng isang takdang kapulungan laban sa akin upang pagwaraywarayin ang aking mga binata: niyapakan ng Panginoon na parang pisaan ng ubas ang anak na dalaga ng Juda.
16 Dahil sa mga bagay na ito ay umiiyak ako; ang mata ko, ang mata ko ay dinadaluyan ng luha; sapagka't ang mangaaliw na marapat magpaginhawa ng aking kaluluwa ay malayo sa akin: ang mga anak ko ay napahamak, sapagka't nanaig ang kaaway.
17 Iginawad ng Sion ang kaniyang mga kamay; walang umaliw sa kaniya; nagutos ang Panginoon tungkol sa Jacob, na silang nangasa palibot niya ay magiging kaniyang mga kalaban: ang Jerusalem ay parang maruming bagay sa gitna nila.
18 Ang Panginoon ay matuwid; sapagka't ako'y nanghimagsik laban sa kaniyang utos: inyong pakinggan, isinasamo ko sa inyo, ninyong lahat na bayan, at inyong masdan ang aking kapanglawan: ang aking mga dalaga at ang aking mga binata ay pumasok sa pagkabihag.
19 Aking tinawagan ang mga mangingibig sa akin, nguni't dinaya nila: nalagot ang hininga ng aking mga saserdote at ng aking mga matanda sa bayan, habang nagsisihanap sila ng pagkain upang paginhawahin ang kanilang kaluluwa.

Jerusalem Cries over Her Loss
1 How lonely sits the city [C Jerusalem],
once so full of people.
She is like a widow,
once great among the nations [Ps. 122:3].
She was like a queen ·of all the other cities [L among the provinces],
but now she is a ·slave [forced laborer; vassal].
2 She [C Jerusalem pictured as a widow] cries loudly at night,
and tears are on her cheeks.
There is no one to comfort her;
·all who loved her are gone [L among all her lovers; C referring to other nations to whom she unfaithfully turned for help].
All her friends have ·turned against [betrayed] her
and are now her enemies.
3 Judah has gone into ·captivity [exile; C to Babylon; 2 Kin. 25:8–21; 2 Chr. 36:17–21; Jer. 39:1–10; 51:12–30]
where she ·suffers [is oppressed/afflicted] ·and works hard [under slavery/harsh servitude].
She lives among other nations,
but she has found no rest.
Those who ·chased [pursued; persecuted] her caught her
·when she was in trouble [L between her distresses].
4 The roads to ·Jerusalem [L Zion; C the location of the Temple] ·are sad [mourn],
because no one comes for the feasts [C Passover, Pentecost, Tabernacles].

Her priests groan,

5 Her foes are now her masters.
Her enemies ·enjoy the wealth they have taken [prosper].
The Lord is ·punishing [tormenting; afflicting] her
for her many ·sins [transgressions].
Her ·children [little ones] have gone away
as captives of the ·enemy [foe].

has gone away.
Her rulers are like deer

7 Jerusalem ·is suffering and homeless.

and there was no one to help her.

8 Jerusalem sinned terribly,

Those who honored her now ·hate [despise] her,
because they have seen her nakedness.
She groans
and turns away.

and did not think about what would happen to her.
Her ·defeat [downfall] was surprising,
and no one could comfort her.
She says, “Lord, see how I ·suffer [am afflicted],
because the enemy has won.”
10 The ·enemy [foe] ·reached out and took [spread his hands on]
all her ·precious [desired; coveted] things.
She even saw ·foreigners [nations]
enter her ·Temple [L holy place; Ps. 74:4–8].
·The Lord had commanded foreigners [L …those you commanded]
never to enter the meeting place of ·his [L your] people.
11 All of ·Jerusalem’s [L its] people groan,
·looking for [seeking] bread.
They ·are trading [L give] their ·precious [desired; coveted] things for food
so they can stay alive.
The city says, “Look, Lord, and see.
I am ·hated [despised].”
12 Jerusalem says, “You who pass by on the road ·don’t seem to care [is it nothing to you…?; L No, to you].
Come, look at me and see:
Is there any ·pain [sorrow] like ·mine [L my pain/sorrow]?
·Is there any pain like that he has caused me […which has come upon me]?
The Lord has ·punished [afflicted; tormented] me
on the day of his great anger.
13 “He sent fire from above
that went ·down [deep] into my bones.
He ·stretched [spread] out a net for my feet
and turned me back.
He made me so ·sad and lonely [desolate]
that I am ·weak [faint; sick] all day.
14 “He ·has noticed my sins [or bound my transgressions into a yoke];
they are ·tied together [intertwined] by his hands;
they hang around my neck.
·He has turned my strength into weakness [L My strength falters].
The Lord has handed me over

15 “The Lord has rejected

As if in a winepress, the Lord has ·crushed [trampled]

16 “I cry about these things;
my eyes overflow with tears.

The Lord commanded the people of Jacob
to be surrounded by their ·enemies [foes].

but I ·refused to obey him [L have rebelled against his mouth].
Listen, all you people,
and look at my ·pain [sorrow].
My young women and men

My priests and my elders
have died in the city

1 How doth the city sit solitary, that was full of people! how is she become as a widow! she that was great among the nations, and princess among the provinces, how is she become tributary!
2 She weepeth sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks: among all her lovers she hath none to comfort her: all her friends have dealt treacherously with her, they are become her enemies.
3 Judah is gone into captivity because of affliction, and because of great servitude: she dwelleth among the heathen, she findeth no rest: all her persecutors overtook her between the straits.
4 The ways of Zion do mourn, because none come to the solemn feasts: all her gates are desolate: her priests sigh, her virgins are afflicted, and she is in bitterness.
5 Her adversaries are the chief, her enemies prosper; for the Lord hath afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions: her children are gone into captivity before the enemy.
6 And from the daughter of Zion all her beauty is departed: her princes are become like harts that find no pasture, and they are gone without strength before the pursuer.
7 Jerusalem remembered in the days of her affliction and of her miseries all her pleasant things that she had in the days of old, when her people fell into the hand of the enemy, and none did help her: the adversaries saw her, and did mock at her sabbaths.
8 Jerusalem hath grievously sinned; therefore she is removed: all that honoured her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness: yea, she sigheth, and turneth backward.
9 Her filthiness is in her skirts; she remembereth not her last end; therefore she came down wonderfully: she had no comforter. O Lord, behold my affliction: for the enemy hath magnified himself.
10 The adversary hath spread out his hand upon all her pleasant things: for she hath seen that the heathen entered into her sanctuary, whom thou didst command that they should not enter into thy congregation.
11 All her people sigh, they seek bread; they have given their pleasant things for meat to relieve the soul: see, O Lord, and consider; for I am become vile.
12 Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me, wherewith the Lord hath afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger.
13 From above hath he sent fire into my bones, and it prevaileth against them: he hath spread a net for my feet, he hath turned me back: he hath made me desolate and faint all the day.

18 The Lord is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment: hear, I pray you, all people, and behold my sorrow: my virgins and my young men are gone into captivity.
19 I called for my lovers, but they deceived me: my priests and mine elders gave up the ghost in the city, while they sought their meat to relieve their souls.
20 Behold, O Lord; for I am in distress: my bowels are troubled; mine heart is turned within me; for I have grievously rebelled: abroad the sword bereaveth, at home there is as death.
21 They have heard that I sigh: there is none to comfort me: all mine enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that thou hast done it: thou wilt bring the day that thou hast called, and they shall be like unto me.
22 Let all their wickedness come before thee; and do unto them, as thou hast done unto me for all my transgressions: for my sighs are many, and my heart is faint.
