问候
1 我作长老的写信给亲爱的该犹，就是我真心所爱的。
2 亲爱的，我愿你事事安宁，身体健康，正如你的心神安宁一样。 3 我非常欢喜，有弟兄到这里来，证实你对真理的忠诚，就是你按着真理而行。 4 我听见我的儿女按真理而行，我的欢喜没有比这个更大的。
合作和反对
5 亲爱的，你对弟兄，特别是对作客旅的弟兄所做的都是忠诚的。 6 他们在教会面前证实了你的爱；你若以对得起 神的方式，为他们送行就好了； 7 因为他们是为基督的名[a]出外，并没有从未信的人接受什么。 8 所以，我们应当接待这样的人，好让我们与他们在真理上成为同工。
9 我曾写过一些东西给教会，但他们中间那好作领袖的丢特腓不接纳我们。 10 为此，我若去，要提起他所做的事，就是他用恶言攻击我们，还不满足，他自己不接纳弟兄，有人愿意接纳，他还阻止，并且把接纳弟兄的人赶出教会。
11 亲爱的，不要效法恶，只要效法善。行善的人属乎 神；行恶的人未曾见过 神。 12 低米丢行善，有众人给他作见证，又有真理给他作见证，就是我们也给他作见证，你知道我们的见证是真的。
问安
13 我还有许多事要写给你，却不愿意用笔墨来写给你， 14 但盼望很快见到你，我们好面对面谈论。 15 愿你平安！朋友们都向你问安。请你替我按着名字一一向朋友们问安。

1 我这做长老的写信给亲爱的该犹，就是我本着真理所爱的人。 2 亲爱的弟兄，衷心地祝你凡事顺利，身体和灵魂一样健康。
该犹的好品行
3 有弟兄们来为你的行为做见证，说你忠心地遵行真理，这使我非常欣慰。 4 没有比听见自己的孩子遵行真理更使我欢喜了。
5 亲爱的弟兄，你常常忠心地照顾素不相识的弟兄， 6 他们把你的爱心告诉了教会。愿你照着上帝所喜悦的方式继续帮助他们， 7 因为他们为了主耶稣的名四处传道，不收取非信徒的任何东西。 8 我们应该接待这样的人，好与他们一同传扬真理。
丢特腓的恶行
9 我曾写信给你那里的教会，但喜欢做领袖的丢特腓不理会我们。 10 因此，我若去你们那里，会提及他的所作所为，就是他怎样恶言中伤我们。不仅如此，他还拒绝接待弟兄，并且禁止别人接待，甚至将接待的人赶出教会。
抑恶扬善
11 亲爱的弟兄，不要效法罪恶，要效法美善。行善的人属于上帝，行恶的人不认识上帝。 12 低米丢得到了众人的好评，真理本身也为他做见证，我们也为他做见证。你们知道我们的见证是真实的。
结语
13 我本来有很多事想跟你谈，但不想用笔墨写给你， 14 只希望可以快快地见到你，跟你当面畅谈。
15 祝你平安！这里的朋友们都问候你，请代我一一问候你那边的朋友。

1 L'anziano al carissimo Gaio, che io amo in verità.
2 Carissimo, io desidero che tu prosperi in ogni cosa e goda buona salute, come prospera la tua anima.
3 Mi sono infatti grandemente rallegrato quando sono venuti alcuni fratelli e hanno reso testimonianza della tua fedeltà alla verità, in quanto tu cammini in verità,
4 Non ho gioia piú grande di questa: di sentire che i miei figli camminano nella verità.
5 Carissimo, tu agisci fedelmente in tutto ciò che fai per i fratelli e per i forestieri.
6 Essi hanno reso testimonianza del tuo amore davanti alla chiesa; tu farai bene a provvedere loro per il viaggio in modo degno di Dio,
7 perché sono partiti per amore del suo nome, senza prendere nulla dai gentili.
8 Noi dobbiamo dunque accogliere tali persone, per essere collaboratori nella causa della verità.
9 Ho scritto alla chiesa, ma Diotrefe, che ama avere il primato fra di loro non ci riceve.
10 Per questo se verrò ricorderò le opere che egli fa, cianciando contro di noi con malvagie parole, e non contento di questo, non solo non riceve egli stesso i fratelli, ma impedisce pure di farlo a coloro che li vorrebbero ricevere e li caccia fuori dalla chiesa.
11 Carissimo, non imitare il male ma il bene. Chi fa il bene è da Dio, ma chi fa il male non ha visto Dio.
12 Demetrio ha ricevuto testimonianza da tutti e dalla verità stessa; e anche noi gli rendiamo testimonianza, e tu sai che la nostra testimonianza è verace.
13 Avevo molte cose da scriverti, ma non intendo scrivertene con inchiostro e penna.
14 Spero però di vederti presto, allora ci parleremo a voce. La pace sia con te. Gli amici ti salutano. Saluta gli amici ad uno ad uno.

Greeting to Gaius
1 The Elder,
To the beloved Gaius, (A)whom I love in truth:
2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. 3 For I (B)rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth. 4 I have no greater (C)joy than to hear that (D)my children walk in [a]truth.
Gaius Commended for Generosity
5 Beloved, you do faithfully whatever you do for the brethren [b]and for strangers, 6 who have borne witness of your love before the church. If you send them forward on their journey in a manner worthy of God, you will do well, 7 because they went forth for His name’s sake, (E)taking nothing from the Gentiles. 8 We therefore ought to (F)receive[c] such, that we may become fellow workers for the truth.
Diotrephes and Demetrius
9 I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, does not receive us. 10 Therefore, if I come, I will call to mind his deeds which he does, (G)prating[d] against us with malicious words. And not content with that, he himself does not receive the brethren, and forbids those who wish to, putting them out of the church.
11 Beloved, (H)do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. (I)He who does good is of God, [e]but he who does evil has not seen (J)God.
12 Demetrius (K)has a good testimony from all, and from the truth itself. And we also [f]bear witness, (L)and you know that our testimony is true.
Farewell Greeting
13 (M)I had many things to write, but I do not wish to write to you with pen and ink; 14 but I hope to see you shortly, and we shall speak face to face.
