走过约旦河
3 约书亚清早起来，率领全体以色列人离开什亭，来到约旦河边安营，等候过河。 2 过了三天，官长走遍各营，吩咐民众说： 3 “你们看见做祭司的利未人抬着你们上帝耶和华的约柜出发时，就要起身跟在后面。 4 这样，你们就会知道路，因为你们从来没有走过这条路。但你们要跟约柜保持九百米的距离，不要走近约柜。” 5 约书亚又对民众说：“你们要洁净自己，因为明天耶和华要在你们当中行奇事。” 6 约书亚又对祭司说：“抬起约柜，率领民众过河吧！”他们就抬起约柜，走在民众前面。
7 耶和华对约书亚说：“从今天开始，我要使你在以色列人面前得到尊荣，让他们知道我与你同在，正如从前我跟摩西同在一样。 8 你要吩咐抬约柜的祭司走到约旦河边，站在水中。” 9 约书亚对以色列人说：“你们要来听你们的上帝耶和华的话。 10 今天你们会明白永活的上帝就在你们当中，祂必在你们面前赶走迦南人、赫人、希未人、比利洗人、革迦撒人、亚摩利人和耶布斯人。 11 看啊，天下之主的约柜要在你们前面过约旦河。 12 现在，你们要从以色列的十二支派中选出十二个人来，每支派选一人。 13 当祭司抬着天下之主——耶和华的约柜一踏进约旦河，往下流的河水必会止住，形成一道水堤。”
14-15 那时是收割的季节，河水高涨，淹没两岸。民众拔营准备过河的时候，抬约柜的祭司走在前头，当他们的脚刚一踏进河水， 16 往下流的水立即止住了，在很远的撒拉但附近的亚当城那里涨成一道水墙。流入亚拉巴海，即盐海的水被完全截断了，民众便走到对面的耶利哥。 17 以色列人过河的时候，抬耶和华约柜的祭司站立在河中间的干地上，直到所有人都从干地上过了约旦河。

3 De volgende morgen in alle vroegte, verlieten Jozua en het hele volk Sittim. Diezelfde avond bereikten zij de oever van de Jordaan, waar zij enige dagen hun kamp opsloegen alvorens over te steken. 2-4 Op de derde dag gingen enkele aanvoerders het kamp door en gaven de volgende instructies: ‘Wanneer u de Levitische priesters de ark van het verbond met de Here, uw God, ziet dragen, volg hen dan. Waar wij heengaan, bent u nog nooit geweest, daarom zullen zij u de weg wijzen. Blijf echter ongeveer een kilometer achter hen, met een duidelijke ruimte tussen de ark en u, zorg ervoor dat u niet dichterbij komt.’
5 Toen droeg Jozua iedereen op zich te heiligen. ‘Morgen,’ zei hij, ‘zal de Here een groot wonder verrichten.’ 6 De volgende ochtend gaf Jozua de priesters de opdracht: ‘Neem de ark op en leid ons over de rivier!’ En zo gingen zij vóór het volk uit.
7 ‘Vandaag,’ zei de Here tegen Jozua, ‘zal Ik u grote eer geven, zodat heel Israël weet dat Ik net zo met u ben als Ik met Mozes was. 8 Geef de priesters die de ark dragen, opdracht dat zij in het water gaan staan zodra ze bij de oever van de Jordaan zijn aangekomen.’ 9 Jozua riep het volk bijeen en zei: ‘Kom hier en luister naar wat de Here, uw God, heeft gezegd. 10 Vandaag zal het u duidelijk worden dat de levende God in uw midden is en dat Hij vast en zeker de Kanaänieten, Hethieten, Chiwwieten, Perizzieten, Girgasieten, Amorieten en Jebusieten zal verdrijven. 11 Want de ark van het verbond van God, die de Here van de hele aarde is, zal u over de rivier leiden! 12 Kies nu twaalf mannen, één uit elke stam, voor een speciale opdracht. 13,14 Wanneer de priesters die de ark van de Here dragen met hun voeten het water aanraken, zal de rivier ophouden met stromen. Het water dat van bovenaf komt, zal als een dam blijven staan!’ Dit gebeurde in het oogstseizoen en de Jordaan was al buiten zijn oevers getreden. Toen het volk zich in beweging zette en de voeten van de priesters die de ark van het verbond droegen het water raakten, 15,16 begon het rivierwater zich plotseling ver stroomopwaarts bij de stad Adam, dichtbij Zarethan, op te hopen alsof het een dam was! Het water beneden dat punt stroomde verder naar de Zoutzee, tot de rivierbedding droog stond. Toen stak het hele volk de rivier over ter hoogte van Jericho. 17 De priesters die de ark droegen, stonden op het droge midden in de Jordaan en bleven daar, terwijl het hele volk aan hen voorbij trok.

3 다음날 여호수아와 모든 이스라엘 백성은 아침 일찍 일어나 싯딤을 떠났다. 그 들은 요단 강변에 이르러 바로 건너가지 않고 그 곳에 진을 쳤다.
2-3 3일 후에 지도자들은 진영을 두루 다니 면서 백성들에게 이렇게 말하였다. “여러분은 제사장들이 여호와의 법궤를 메고 나서는 것을 보거든 이 곳을 떠나 그들의 뒤를 따르시오.
4 이제 여러분은 전에 한 번도 가 본 적이 없는 길을 가게 됩니다. 그래서 제사장들이 여러분을 인도할 것입니다. 그러나 여러분은 법궤 뒤에 바싹 따라가지 말고 [a]1킬로미터 정도의 간격을 유지해야 합니다.”
5 그리고 여호수아는 백성들에게 “여러분은 자신을 정결하게 하십시오. 내일은 여호와께서 여러분 가운데 큰 기적을 행하실 것입니다” 하고 말하였다.
6 여호수아가 제사장들에게 법궤를 메고 백성들보다 먼저 강을 건너가라고 명령하자 그들은 곧 출발하였다.
7 그때 여호와께서 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다. “내가 오늘부터 너를 크게 높여 모든 이스라엘 백성이 내가 모세와 함께한 것처럼 너와 함께하는 것을 알도록 하겠다.
8 너는 법궤를 멘 제사장들이 요단 강변에 도착하거든 물에 들어가 서 있으라고 지시하여라.”
9 그래서 여호수아는 백성들에게 이렇게 말하였다. “모두 이리 와서 여러분의 하나님 여호와의 말씀을 들으십시오.
10-11 여러분이 전진할 때 여호와께서 가나 안족, 헷족, 히위족, 브리스족, 기르가스족, 아모리족, 여부스족을 반드시 몰아낼 것입니다. 여러분은 온 세상의 주가 되시는 여호와의 법궤가 여러분보다 먼저 요단강에 들어갈 때 살아 계신 하나님이 여러분 가운데 계시는 것을 알게 될 것입니다.
12 이제 이스라엘 각 지파에서 한 사람씩 모두 12명을 뽑아 세우십시오.
13 온 세상의 주가 되시는 여호와의 법궤를 멘 제사장들이 요단 강물을 밟는 순간 흐르던 강물이 멈춰 둑처럼 쌓일 것입니다.”
14-15 백성들이 요단강을 건너려고 진영을 떠날 때 제사장들은 법궤를 메고 백성들의 선두에 섰다. 그들이 요단강에 도착했을 때는 마침 추수 때가 되어 강물이 강둑에까지 넘쳐 흐르고 있었다. 그러나 궤를 멘 제사장들이 강물에 발을 들여놓는 순간
16 갑자기 위에서 흐르던 물이 멈춰 멀리 사르단 근처에 있는 아담성에까지 둑을 이루었고 사해로 흘러가던 물은 완전히 끊어져 강바닥이 말라 버렸다. 그래서 백성들은 바로 여리고 쪽으로 건너갈 수 있었다.
17 그들이 마른 땅을 밟고 건너가는 동안 여호와의 법궤를 멘 제사장들은 모든 백성이 완전히 건널 때까지 요단강 한복판에 서 있었다.

Crossing the Jordan
3 Early in the morning Joshua and all the Israelites set out from Shittim(A) and went to the Jordan,(B) where they camped before crossing over. 2 After three days(C) the officers(D) went throughout the camp,(E) 3 giving orders to the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant(F) of the Lord your God, and the Levitical(G) priests(H) carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. 4 Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. But keep a distance of about two thousand cubits[a](I) between you and the ark; do not go near it.”
5 Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves,(J) for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things(K) among you.”
6 Joshua said to the priests, “Take up the ark of the covenant and pass on ahead of the people.” So they took it up and went ahead of them.
7 And the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I will begin to exalt you(L) in the eyes of all Israel, so they may know that I am with you as I was with Moses.(M) 8 Tell the priests(N) who carry the ark of the covenant: ‘When you reach the edge of the Jordan’s waters, go and stand in the river.’”
9 Joshua said to the Israelites, “Come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God. 10 This is how you will know that the living God(O) is among you(P) and that he will certainly drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites,(Q) Hivites, Perizzites,(R) Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites.(S) 11 See, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth(T) will go into the Jordan ahead of you.(U) 12 Now then, choose twelve men(V) from the tribes of Israel, one from each tribe. 13 And as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the Lord—the Lord of all the earth(W)—set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream(X) will be cut off(Y) and stand up in a heap.(Z)”
14 So when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant(AA) went ahead(AB) of them. 15 Now the Jordan(AC) is at flood stage(AD) all during harvest.(AE) Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge, 16 the water from upstream stopped flowing.(AF) It piled up in a heap(AG) a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan,(AH) while the water flowing down(AI) to the Sea of the Arabah(AJ) (that is, the Dead Sea(AK)) was completely cut off.(AL) So the people crossed over opposite Jericho.(AM) 17 The priests(AN) who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord stopped in the middle of the Jordan and stood on dry ground,(AO) while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground.(AP)
