馬利亞用香膏抹主
12 逾越節前六日，耶穌來到伯大尼，就是他叫拉撒路從死裡復活之處。 2 有人在那裡給耶穌預備筵席，馬大伺候，拉撒路也在那同耶穌坐席的人中。 3 馬利亞就拿著一斤極貴的真哪噠香膏，抹耶穌的腳，又用自己的頭髮去擦，屋裡就滿了膏的香氣。 4 有一個門徒，就是那將要賣耶穌的加略人猶大， 5 說：「這香膏為什麼不賣三十兩銀子賙濟窮人呢？」 6 他說這話，並不是掛念窮人，乃因他是個賊，又帶著錢囊，常取其中所存的。 7 耶穌說：「由她吧！她是為我安葬之日存留的。 8 因為常有窮人和你們同在，只是你們不常有我。」
9 有許多猶太人知道耶穌在那裡，就來了，不但是為耶穌的緣故，也是要看他從死裡所復活的拉撒路。 10 但祭司長商議連拉撒路也要殺了， 11 因有好些猶太人為拉撒路的緣故，回去信了耶穌。
主騎驢進耶路撒冷
12 第二天，有許多上來過節的人聽見耶穌將到耶路撒冷， 13 就拿著棕樹枝出去迎接他，喊著說：「和散那！奉主名來的以色列王是應當稱頌的！」 14 耶穌得了一個驢駒，就騎上，如經上所記的說： 15 「錫安的民[a]哪，不要懼怕！你的王騎著驢駒來了。」 16 這些事門徒起先不明白，等到耶穌得了榮耀以後，才想起這話是指著他寫的，並且眾人果然向他這樣行了。 17 當耶穌呼喚拉撒路，叫他從死復活出墳墓的時候，同耶穌在那裡的眾人就作見證。 18 眾人因聽見耶穌行了這神蹟，就去迎接他。 19 法利賽人彼此說：「看哪，你們是徒勞無益，世人都隨從他去了！」
20 那時，上來過節禮拜的人中，有幾個希臘人。 21 他們來見加利利伯賽大的腓力，求他說：「先生，我們願意見耶穌。」 22 腓力去告訴安得烈，安得烈同腓力去告訴耶穌。
耶穌向百姓末了的講論
23 耶穌說：「人子得榮耀的時候到了。 24 我實實在在地告訴你們：一粒麥子不落在地裡死了，仍舊是一粒；若是死了，就結出許多子粒來。 25 愛惜自己生命的，就失喪生命；在這世上恨惡自己生命的，就要保守生命到永生。 26 若有人服侍我，就當跟從我；我在哪裡，服侍我的人也要在哪裡。若有人服侍我，我父必尊重他。 27 我現在心裡憂愁，我說什麼才好呢？父啊，救我脫離這時候！但我原是為這時候來的。 28 父啊，願你榮耀你的名！」當時就有聲音從天上來說：「我已經榮耀了我的名，還要再榮耀。」 29 站在旁邊的眾人聽見，就說：「打雷了。」還有人說：「有天使對他說話。」
主要吸引萬人歸己
30 耶穌說：「這聲音不是為我，是為你們來的。 31 現在這世界受審判，這世界的王要被趕出去。 32 我若從地上被舉起來，就要吸引萬人來歸我。」 33 耶穌這話原是指著自己將要怎樣死說的。 34 眾人回答說：「我們聽見律法上有話說基督是永存的，你怎麼說人子必須被舉起來呢？這人子是誰呢？」 35 耶穌對他們說：「光在你們中間還有不多的時候，應當趁著有光行走，免得黑暗臨到你們。那在黑暗裡行走的，不知道往何處去。 36 你們應當趁著有光，信從這光，使你們成為光明之子。」
應驗以賽亞的預言
37 耶穌說了這話，就離開他們隱藏了。他雖然在他們面前行了許多神蹟，他們還是不信他。 38 這是要應驗先知以賽亞的話說：「主啊，我們所傳的有誰信呢？主的膀臂向誰顯露呢？」 39 他們所以不能信，因為以賽亞又說： 40 「主叫他們瞎了眼，硬了心，免得他們眼睛看見，心裡明白，回轉過來，我就醫治他們。」 41 以賽亞因為看見他的榮耀，就指著他說這話。 42 雖然如此，官長中卻有好些信他的，只因法利賽人的緣故，就不承認，恐怕被趕出會堂。 43 這是因他們愛人的榮耀過於愛神的榮耀。
信子就是信父
44 耶穌大聲說：「信我的，不是信我，乃是信那差我來的。 45 人看見我，就是看見那差我來的。 46 我到世上來，乃是光，叫凡信我的不住在黑暗裡。 47 若有人聽見我的話不遵守，我不審判他。我來本不是要審判世界，乃是要拯救世界。 48 棄絕我、不領受我話的人，有審判他的，就是我所講的道在末日要審判他。 49 因為我沒有憑著自己講，唯有差我來的父已經給我命令，叫我說什麼、講什麼。 50 我也知道他的命令就是永生。故此，我所講的話正是照著父對我所說的。」

12 За шесть дней до праздника Освобождения Иса пришёл в Вифанию, туда, где жил Элеазар, которого Он воскресил из мёртвых. 2 Здесь в честь Исы был устроен обед. Марфа накрывала на стол, и Элеазар вместе с другими гостями и Исой тоже возлежал у стола. 3 Марьям в это время взяла кувшин[a] чистого нардового[b] масла, которое стоило очень дорого, и вылила его на ноги Исе. Потом она стала вытирать Его ноги своими волосами. Весь дом наполнился ароматом масла. 4 Иуда Искариот, один из учеников Исы, который впоследствии предал Его, возмутился:
5 – Почему было не продать это масло за триста серебряных монет[c] и не раздать деньги нищим?
6 Он говорил это не потому, что заботился о нищих, а потому, что был вор. Ему был доверен ящик с общими деньгами, и он брал из него на свои нужды.
7 – Оставь её, – сказал Иса, – она должна была сохранить этот бальзам на день Моего погребения. 8 Нищие всегда будут с вами, а Я не всегда буду с вами.

– Ничего не помогает. Весь мир идёт за Ним!
Иса Масих говорит о Своей смерти
20 Среди пришедших на праздник для поклонения было несколько греков. 21 Они подошли к Филиппу, ученику Исы, который был родом из Вифсаиды в Галилее, и попросили:
– Господин, мы бы хотели увидеть Ису.
22 Филипп пошёл к Андеру, и они вдвоём подошли и сказали об этом Исе. 23 Иса ответил:
– Настал час прославиться Ниспосланному как Человек. 24 Говорю вам истину: если пшеничное зерно не упадёт в землю и не умрёт, то оно останется одним зерном. Если же оно умрёт, то из него произойдёт много зёрен. 25 Тот, кто любит свою жизнь, тот потеряет её, но кто возненавидит свою жизнь в этом мире, тот сохранит её для вечной жизни. 26 Тот, кто служит Мне, должен и следовать за Мной. И где Я, там будет и Мой слуга. И Отец Мой прославит того, кто служит Мне.
27 Сейчас Моя душа взволнована. Что Я могу сказать? Сказать ли: «Отец, избавь Меня от этого часа»? Но ведь для этого часа Я и пришёл! 28 Отец, прославь имя Твоё!
И с небес раздался голос:
– Прославил и ещё прославлю!
29 Народ, который там стоял и слышал, говорил, что это гром, но некоторые утверждали, что это ангел говорил с Ним. 30 Иса сказал:
– Этот голос был не для Меня, а для вас. 31 Теперь настало время суда для мира, и сатана, князь этого греховного мира, будет изгнан вон. 32 Но когда Я буду поднят от земли, Я всех привлеку к Себе.
33 Это Он сказал, давая им понять, какой смертью Он умрёт.
34 Толпа ответила Ему:
– Мы слышали из Писания, что Масих вечно жив.[j] Как же Ты можешь говорить, что «Ниспосланный как Человек будет поднят»? И что тогда из Себя представляет Ниспосланный как Человек?
35 Тогда Иса сказал им:
– Ещё совсем недолго Свет будет с вами. Ходите, пока есть Свет и пока вас не покрыла тьма. А тот, кто ходит во тьме, не знает, куда он идёт. 36 Верьте в Свет, пока Свет есть, чтобы вам стать сынами Света.
Закончив говорить, Иса ушёл и скрылся от них.
Неверие народа и страх перед гонениями
37 Даже после того как Иса сотворил перед ними столько знамений, они не верили в Него. 38 Так исполнились слова пророка Исаии:
«Вечный, кто поверил слышанному от нас,
и кому открылась сила Вечного?»[k]
39 Они потому не могли верить, что, как ещё сказал Исаия:
40 «Он ослепил их глаза
и ожесточил их сердца,
чтобы они не увидели глазами,
не поняли сердцами
и не обратились, чтобы Я их исцелил»[l].
41 Исаия сказал это потому, что он видел славу Масиха и говорил о Нём.[m] 42 Впрочем даже среди начальников многие поверили в Ису, хотя из боязни, что блюстители Закона отлучат их от общества, они не говорили о своей вере. 43 Похвала людей была для них дороже одобрения Всевышнего.
Важность принятия слов Исы Масиха
44 Иса воскликнул:
– Когда человек верит в Меня, он верит не только в Меня, но и в Пославшего Меня. 45 Когда он смотрит на Меня, он видит Того, Кто послал Меня. 46 Я – свет, и Я пришёл в мир, чтобы никто из тех, кто верит в Меня, не остался во тьме.
47 Я не сужу того, кто слушает Мои слова, но не делает того, что Я говорю. Ведь Я пришёл не судить мир, а спасти его. 48 Для того, кто отвергает Меня и не принимает Моих слов, есть судья; Моё слово будет судить его в Последний день. 49 Я ведь не от Себя говорил, но Отец, Который послал Меня, повелел Мне, что говорить и как говорить. 50 Я знаю, что Его повеление ведёт к вечной жизни. Поэтому то, что говорю, Я говорю так, как сказал Мне Отец.

Ungerea lui Isus la Betania
12 Cu şase zile înainte de Paşte, Isus a venit în Betania, unde era Lazăr, cel pe care Isus îl înviase dintre cei morţi. 2 Au dat acolo o cină pentru El. Marta slujea, iar Lazăr era unul dintre cei ce mâncau la masă cu El. 3 Maria a luat o litră[a] de parfum de nard pur, foarte scump, a uns picioarele lui Isus şi I-a şters picioarele cu părul ei. Casa s-a umplut de mirosul parfumului. 4 Dar Iuda Iscarioteanul, unul dintre ucenicii Lui, cel care urma să-L trădeze, a zis:
5 – De ce nu s-a vândut acest parfum cu trei sute de denari[b], iar banii să fie daţi săracilor?
6 Spunea însă lucrul acesta nu pentru că-i păsa de cei săraci, ci pentru că era un hoţ şi, fiind cel care ţinea punga, fura el ce se punea în ea.
7 Isus i-a zis:
– Las-o în pace, pentru că ea l-a păstrat pentru[c] ziua îngropării Mele! 8 Căci pe săraci îi aveţi întotdeauna cu voi, dar pe Mine nu Mă aveţi întotdeauna.
9 O mare mulţime dintre iudei a aflat că El este acolo şi a venit nu numai pentru Isus, ci şi ca să-l vadă pe Lazăr, pe care El îl înviase dintre cei morţi.
10 Însă conducătorii preoţilor au plănuit să-l omoare şi pe Lazăr, 11 pentru că mulţi dintre iudei îi părăseau din cauza lui şi credeau în Isus.
Intrarea triumfală în Ierusalim
12 În ziua următoare, marea mulţime care venise la sărbătoare, auzind că Isus vine la Ierusalim, 13 a luat ramuri de palmieri şi I-a ieşit în întâmpinare. Ei strigau:
„Osana![d]
Binecuvântat este Cel Ce vine în Numele Domnului,[e]
Împăratul lui Israel!“
14 Isus a găsit un măgăruş şi a încălecat pe el, aşa cum este scris:

23 Isus le-a răspuns: „A venit ceasul ca Fiul Omului să fie proslăvit. 24 Adevărat, adevărat vă spun că, dacă bobul de grâu care cade în pământ nu moare, rămâne singur, dar dacă moare, aduce mult rod. 25 Cel ce-şi iubeşte viaţa, o va pierde, dar cel ce-şi urăşte[h] viaţa în lumea aceasta, o va păstra pentru viaţa veşnică. 26 Dacă Îmi slujeşte cineva, să Mă urmeze; şi unde sunt Eu, acolo va fi şi slujitorul Meu. Dacă-Mi slujeşte cineva, Tatăl îl va onora.
27 Acum, sufletul Meu este tulburat. Şi ce-ar trebui să spun? «Tată, salvează-Mă din ceasul acesta!»? Dar tocmai de aceea am venit până în ceasul acesta! 28 Tată, proslăveşte-Ţi Numele!“ Atunci a venit din cer un glas care a zis: „L-am proslăvit şi-l voi proslăvi din nou!“ 29 Mulţimea care stătea acolo şi care a auzit glasul, a zis că a fost un tunet. Alţii ziceau: „I-a vorbit un înger!“
30 Isus a zis:
– Nu pentru Mine s-a auzit glasul acesta, ci pentru voi! 31 Acum are loc judecata acestei lumi; acum va fi aruncat afară conducătorul acestei lumi. 32 Şi când voi fi înălţat de pe pământ, îi voi atrage la Mine pe toţi.
33 Spunea lucrul acesta pentru a arăta cu ce fel de moarte urma să moară.
34 Mulţimea I-a răspuns:
– Noi am auzit din Lege[i] că Cristosul rămâne în veac; cum de spui Tu că Fiul Omului trebuie să fie înălţat?! Cine este Acest Fiu al Omului?
35 Isus le-a zis:
– Lumina mai este încă puţină vreme în mijlocul vostru. Umblaţi cât timp aveţi Lumina, pentru ca nu cumva să vă cuprindă întunericul! Cel ce umblă în întuneric nu ştie unde se duce. 36 Cât timp aveţi Lumina, credeţi în Lumină, ca să deveniţi fii ai Luminii!
După ce a spus aceste lucruri, Isus a plecat şi S-a ascuns de ei.
Iudeii continuă în necredinţa lor
37 Dar, cu toate că făcuse atâtea semne înaintea lor, tot nu credeau în El, 38 ca să se împlinească cuvântul lui Isaia, profetul, care zice:
„Doamne, cine a crezut mesajul nostru?
Cui i-a fost descoperit braţul Domnului?“[j]
39 De aceea nu puteau crede, pentru că Isaia a mai zis:
40 „Le-a orbit ochii
şi le-a împietrit inima,
ca nu cumva să vadă cu ochii,
să înţeleagă cu inima, să se întoarcă la Mine şi să-i vindec!“
41 Isaia a spus aceste lucruri pentru că a văzut slava Lui şi a vorbit despre El.
42 Totuşi, chiar şi dintre conducători, mulţi au crezut în El, dar, din cauza fariseilor, nu mărturiseau aceasta[k], ca să nu fie daţi afară din sinagogă. 43 Căci au iubit mai mult slava oamenilor decât slava lui Dumnezeu.
44 Isus a strigat: „Cel ce crede în Mine, nu crede doar în Mine, ci în Cel Ce M-a trimis pe Mine, 45 iar cel ce Mă vede pe Mine Îl vede pe Cel Ce M-a trimis pe Mine! 46 Eu am venit ca lumină în lume, pentru ca oricine crede în Mine să nu rămână în întuneric. 47 Iar dacă aude cineva cuvintele Mele şi nu le păzeşte, nu Eu îl judec. Căci Eu n-am venit să judec lumea, ci să mântuiesc lumea. 48 Pe cel ce Mă respinge şi nu primeşte cuvintele Mele are cine să-l judece: Cuvântul pe care l-am spus Eu, acela îl va judeca în ziua de pe urmă. 49 Căci Eu n-am vorbit de la Mine Însumi, ci Cel Ce M-a trimis, Tatăl Însuşi, Mi-a dat poruncă ce să vorbesc şi ce să spun. 50 Şi ştiu că porunca Lui este viaţă veşnică. Prin urmare, lucrurile pe care Eu le spun, le spun aşa cum Mi le-a spus Tatăl.“

Jesus Anointed at Bethany(A)
12 Six days before the Passover,(B) Jesus came to Bethany,(C) where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2 Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served,(D) while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. 3 Then Mary took about a pint[a] of pure nard, an expensive perfume;(E) she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair.(F) And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
4 But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him,(G) objected, 5 “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.[b]” 6 He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag,(H) he used to help himself to what was put into it.
7 “Leave her alone,” Jesus replied. “It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial.(I) 8 You will always have the poor among you,[c](J) but you will not always have me.”
9 Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews found out that Jesus was there and came, not only because of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.(K) 10 So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well, 11 for on account of him(L) many of the Jews were going over to Jesus and believing in him.(M)
Jesus Comes to Jerusalem as King(N)
12 The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. 13 They took palm branches(O) and went out to meet him, shouting,
“Hosanna![d]”
“Blessed is the king of Israel!”(Q)
14 Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written:
16 At first his disciples did not understand all this.(S) Only after Jesus was glorified(T) did they realize that these things had been written about him and that these things had been done to him.
17 Now the crowd that was with him(U) when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word. 18 Many people, because they had heard that he had performed this sign,(V) went out to meet him. 19 So the Pharisees said to one another, “See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after him!”(W)
Jesus Predicts His Death
20 Now there were some Greeks(X) among those who went up to worship at the festival. 21 They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida(Y) in Galilee, with a request. “Sir,” they said, “we would like to see Jesus.” 22 Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus.
23 Jesus replied, “The hour(Z) has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.(AA) 24 Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies,(AB) it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. 25 Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it(AC) for eternal life.(AD) 26 Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be.(AE) My Father will honor the one who serves me.
27 “Now my soul is troubled,(AF) and what shall I say? ‘Father,(AG) save me from this hour’?(AH) No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. 28 Father, glorify your name!”
Then a voice came from heaven,(AI) “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.” 29 The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him.
30 Jesus said, “This voice was for your benefit,(AJ) not mine. 31 Now is the time for judgment on this world;(AK) now the prince of this world(AL) will be driven out. 32 And I, when I am lifted up[g] from the earth,(AM) will draw all people to myself.”(AN) 33 He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die.(AO)
34 The crowd spoke up, “We have heard from the Law(AP) that the Messiah will remain forever,(AQ) so how can you say, ‘The Son of Man(AR) must be lifted up’?(AS) Who is this ‘Son of Man’?”
35 Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light(AT) just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light,(AU) before darkness overtakes you.(AV) Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going. 36 Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light.”(AW) When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them.(AX)
Belief and Unbelief Among the Jews
37 Even after Jesus had performed so many signs(AY) in their presence, they still would not believe in him. 38 This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet:
39 For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere:
40 “He has blinded their eyes
and hardened their hearts,
so they can neither see with their eyes,
nor understand with their hearts,
nor turn—and I would heal them.”[i](BA)
41 Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus’ glory(BB) and spoke about him.(BC)
42 Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him.(BD) But because of the Pharisees(BE) they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue;(BF) 43 for they loved human praise(BG) more than praise from God.(BH)
44 Then Jesus cried out, “Whoever believes in me does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me.(BI) 45 The one who looks at me is seeing the one who sent me.(BJ) 46 I have come into the world as a light,(BK) so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.
47 “If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.(BL) 48 There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them(BM) at the last day. 49 For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me(BN) to say all that I have spoken. 50 I know that his command leads to eternal life.(BO) So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.”(BP)

12 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.
2 There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.
3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
4 Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him,
5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?
6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
7 Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this.
8 For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.
9 Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
10 But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;
11 Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.
12 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.
14 And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,
15 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt.
16 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.
17 The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record.
18 For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle.
19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.
20 And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:
21 The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
22 Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.
28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.
30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.
31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
33 This he said, signifying what death he should die.
34 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?
35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
37 But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:
38 That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?
39 Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,
40 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.
41 These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.
42 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:
43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
44 Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.
45 And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.
46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
