約書亞的訣別之言
23 此後很長時間，耶和華使以色列人四境太平，沒有戰事。約書亞年事已高， 2 他召來了以色列的長老、族長、審判官和官長，對他們說：「我已經老了， 3 你們都親眼看見你們的上帝耶和華怎樣為了你們而對付列邦，親自為你們爭戰。 4 從約旦河到地中海的這片土地，無論是已征服的還是沒有征服的，我已經用抽籤的方式分給你們各支派作產業。 5 你們的上帝耶和華必把列邦從你們面前趕出去，使他們離開你們。這樣，你們就可以承受他們的土地，正如你們的上帝耶和華的應許。 6 所以，你們應當剛強，謹遵摩西律法書上所記載的一切，不可有半點偏離。 7 不可與你們中間剩下的異族混雜，不可提他們的神明或憑它們起誓，不可供奉、祭拜他們的神明。 8 你們要一如既往地倚靠你們的上帝耶和華， 9 因為祂為你們趕走了強大的外族人，至今無人敵得過你們。 10 你們一個人能打敗他們一千人，因為你們的上帝耶和華照著祂的應許為你們爭戰。 11 所以你們要特別謹慎，愛你們的上帝耶和華。 12 如果你們悖逆，跟你們當中剩下的異族人聯合，通婚往來， 13 毫無疑問，你們的上帝耶和華必不再為你們趕走他們。相反，他們還要成為設在你們當中的圈套和陷阱，你們的肉中刺、眼中釘，直到你們在你們的上帝耶和華所賜給你們的這塊美好的土地上滅亡。
14 「我快要走完人世的路程了。你們深知你們的上帝耶和華賜給你們的一切美好應許沒有一句落空，都已經應驗了。 15 正如你們的上帝耶和華已成就祂應許給你們的一切福氣，如果你們違背祂，祂必照樣降各樣災禍給你們，直到把你們從祂所賜的這美好土地上毀滅。 16 你們如果違背你們的上帝耶和華吩咐你們遵守的約，去供奉、祭拜別的神明，祂必向你們發怒，使你們在祂所賜的這美好土地上迅速滅亡。」

23 (A)Bwe waayitawo ekiseera, Mukama Katonda ng’awadde Isirayiri emirembe mu njuyi zonna awaali abalabe, Yoswa ng’akaddiye ng’awangadde emyaka mingi, 2 (B)n’ayita Abayisirayiri bonna, abakadde baabwe n’abakulembeze baabwe, abalamuzi n’abakungu n’abagamba nti, “Kaakano nkaddiye era mmaze emyaka mingi; 3 (C)mmwe bennyini mulabye byonna Mukama Katonda wammwe byakoze amawanga gano gonna ku lwammwe, kubanga Mukama Katonda wammwe yabalwaniridde. 4 (D)Mulabe, ngabidde ebika byammwe amawanga ago agabadde gakyasigadde, amawanga gonna ge namala okuwangula, okuva ku Yoludaani okutuuka ku nnyanja ennene ebugwanjuba. 5 (E)Mukama Katonda ajja kubagoba babaviire abasindiikirize okuva mu maaso gammwe mutwale ensi yaabwe nga Mukama Katonda wammwe bwe yabasuubiza.
6 (F)“Noolwekyo mwegendereze nnyo okukwata n’okukola byonna ebiwandiikiddwa mu kitabo kya Musa eky’amateeka, obutakyama kukivaako kudda ku ddyo wadde ku kkono. 7 (G)Temwetabanga n’amawanga gano agasigadde mu mmwe, wadde okwogera ku mannya ga bakatonda baabwe, okulayira mu mannya gaabwe okubaweereza wadde okubavuunamira. 8 (H)Naye munywerere ku Mukama Katonda wammwe nga bwe mukoze okutuusa leero.
9 (I)“Kubanga Mukama Katonda wammwe agobye amawanga amanene ag’amaanyi era n’okutuusa kaakano teri n’omu asobodde kubaziyiza. 10 (J)Omuntu omu ku mmwe agoba abantu lukumi, kubanga Mukama Katonda wammwe yaabalwanirira nga bwe yabasuubiza. 11 (K)Noolwekyo mwekuume, mwagale Mukama Katonda wammwe, 12 (L)kubanga bwe munaamuvaangako ne mwegattanga n’abamawanga abaasigalawo abali mu mmwe, oba ne mufumbiriganwa ne mukolagananga nabo, 13 (M)mukitegeererewo nti Mukama Katonda wammwe tagenda kweyongera kubagobamu mawanga gano, naye ganaafuukanga emitego era enkonge gye muli, embooko ezinaabakubanga mu mbiriizi, n’amaggwa aganaabafumitanga mu maaso gammwe okutuusa lwe mulizikirira mu nsi eno ennungi Mukama Katonda wammwe gy’abawadde.
14 (N)“Era kaakano nnaatera okukwata olugendo lw’abantu bonna ab’oku nsi era mumanyi n’emitima gyammwe n’emmeeme yammwe mmwe mwenna nti, Tewali kintu kyonna kitatuukiridde Mukama Katonda wammwe kye yasuubiza ekibakwatako. Byonna bibakoleddwa, tewali na kimu kiremye. 15 (O)Naye ng’ebintu byonna ebirungi Mukama Katonda wammwe bye yabasuubiza nga bwe bibaweereddwa, bw’atyo Mukama bw’anaabatuusangako, ebibi byonna okutuusa ng’abazikirizza okuva mu nsi eno ennungi Mukama Katonda wammwe gy’abawadde. 16 (P)Bwe munaamenyanga endagaano ya Mukama Katonda wammwe gye yabalagira, ne mugenda ne muweerezanga bakatonda abalala ne mubavuunamiranga, obusungu bwa Mukama bunaaboolekeranga, ne muzikirira mangu okuva mu nsi ennungi gy’abawadde.”

Joshua’s Farewell to the Leaders
23 After a long time had passed and the Lord had given Israel rest(A) from all their enemies around them, Joshua, by then a very old man,(B) 2 summoned all Israel—their elders,(C) leaders, judges and officials(D)—and said to them: “I am very old.(E) 3 You yourselves have seen everything the Lord your God has done to all these nations for your sake; it was the Lord your God who fought for you.(F) 4 Remember how I have allotted(G) as an inheritance(H) for your tribes all the land of the nations that remain—the nations I conquered—between the Jordan and the Mediterranean Sea(I) in the west. 5 The Lord your God himself will push them out(J) for your sake. He will drive them out(K) before you, and you will take possession of their land, as the Lord your God promised you.(L)
6 “Be very strong; be careful to obey all that is written in the Book of the Law(M) of Moses, without turning aside(N) to the right or to the left.(O) 7 Do not associate with these nations that remain among you; do not invoke the names of their gods or swear(P) by them. You must not serve them or bow down(Q) to them. 8 But you are to hold fast to the Lord(R) your God, as you have until now.
9 “The Lord has driven out before you great and powerful nations;(S) to this day no one has been able to withstand you.(T) 10 One of you routs a thousand,(U) because the Lord your God fights for you,(V) just as he promised. 11 So be very careful(W) to love the Lord(X) your God.
12 “But if you turn away and ally yourselves with the survivors of these nations that remain among you and if you intermarry with them(Y) and associate with them,(Z) 13 then you may be sure that the Lord your God will no longer drive out(AA) these nations before you. Instead, they will become snares(AB) and traps for you, whips on your backs and thorns in your eyes,(AC) until you perish from this good land,(AD) which the Lord your God has given you.
14 “Now I am about to go the way of all the earth.(AE) You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the Lord your God gave you has failed. Every promise(AF) has been fulfilled; not one has failed.(AG) 15 But just as all the good things(AH) the Lord your God has promised you have come to you, so he will bring on you all the evil things(AI) he has threatened, until the Lord your God has destroyed you(AJ) from this good land he has given you.(AK) 16 If you violate the covenant of the Lord your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them, the Lord’s anger will burn against you, and you will quickly perish from the good land he has given you.(AL)”

Joshua’s word of warning
23 A long time passed. The Lord had given rest to Israel from all their surrounding enemies, and Joshua had grown very old. 2 Joshua summoned all Israel, their elders, their heads, their judges, and their officers. He said to them, “I’ve grown very old. 3 You’ve seen all that the Lord your God has done to all these nations because of you. It is the Lord your God who fights for you. 4 Look. I’ve allotted to you these remaining nations as a legacy for your tribes, along with all the nations I have destroyed. They stretch from the Jordan to the Mediterranean Sea. 5 The Lord your God will force them out before you and remove them from you. Then you will take over their land, exactly as the Lord your God has promised you. 6 Be very strong. Carefully obey everything written in the Instruction scroll from Moses. Don’t deviate a bit from it either to the right or to the left. 7 Don’t have anything to do with these nations that remain with you. Don’t invoke the names of their gods or take oaths by them. Don’t serve them or worship them. 8 Hold on to the Lord your God instead, exactly as you’ve done right up to today.
9 “The Lord has removed great and powerful nations before you. To this day, no one has stood up to you. 10 A single one of you puts a thousand to flight. This is because the Lord your God fights for you, exactly as he promised you. 11 For your own sake, be very careful to love the Lord your God. 12 But if you should turn away and join the rest of these nations that remain with you, intermarry with them, and associate with each other, 13 then know for certain that the Lord your God won’t keep on removing these nations before you. Instead, they will be a snare and a trap for you. They will be a whip on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you vanish from this fertile land that the Lord your God has given you.
14 “Look. I’m now walking on the road to death that all the earth must take. You know with all your heart and being that not a single one of all the good things that the Lord your God promised about you has failed. They were all fulfilled for you. Not a single one of them has failed. 15 But in the same way that every good thing that the Lord your God promised about you has been fulfilled, so the Lord could bring against you every bad thing as well. He could wipe you out from this fertile land that the Lord your God has given you. 16 If you violate the covenant of the Lord your God, which he commanded you to keep, and go on to serve other gods and worship them, then the Lord will be furious with you. You will quickly vanish from the fertile land that he has given you.”

23 And it came to pass a long time after that the Lord had given rest unto Israel from all their enemies round about, that Joshua waxed old and stricken in age.
2 And Joshua called for all Israel, and for their elders, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers, and said unto them, I am old and stricken in age:
3 And ye have seen all that the Lord your God hath done unto all these nations because of you; for the Lord your God is he that hath fought for you.
4 Behold, I have divided unto you by lot these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, from Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, even unto the great sea westward.
5 And the Lord your God, he shall expel them from before you, and drive them from out of your sight; and ye shall possess their land, as the Lord your God hath promised unto you.
6 Be ye therefore very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside therefrom to the right hand or to the left;
7 That ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow yourselves unto them:
8 But cleave unto the Lord your God, as ye have done unto this day.
9 For the Lord hath driven out from before you great nations and strong: but as for you, no man hath been able to stand before you unto this day.
10 One man of you shall chase a thousand: for the Lord your God, he it is that fighteth for you, as he hath promised you.
11 Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye love the Lord your God.
12 Else if ye do in any wise go back, and cleave unto the remnant of these nations, even these that remain among you, and shall make marriages with them, and go in unto them, and they to you:
13 Know for a certainty that the Lord your God will no more drive out any of these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which the Lord your God hath given you.
14 And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the Lord your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed thereof.
15 Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all good things are come upon you, which the Lord your God promised you; so shall the Lord bring upon you all evil things, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which the Lord your God hath given you.
16 When ye have transgressed the covenant of the Lord your God, which he commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed yourselves to them; then shall the anger of the Lord be kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath given unto you.
