25 以色列人駐紮在什亭期間，有些人與摩押女子行淫。 2 那些女子邀他們參加祭祀，他們吃了祭物，並跪拜她們的神明， 3 結果使以色列與巴力·毗珥苟合。耶和華大怒， 4 對摩西說：「把為首的人都抓起來，當著我的面在大白天處死他們，以消除我對以色列人的怒氣。」 5 於是，摩西對以色列的審判官說：「你們各自把權下與巴力·毗珥苟合的人處死。」
6 摩西和以色列全體會眾正在會幕門口痛哭的時候，有個以色列人當著他們的面把一個米甸女子帶進自家的帳篷。 7 亞倫祭司的孫子、以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈看見了，便起身離開會眾，拿著矛槍， 8 跟著進入那人的帳篷，一槍刺透那對男女的腹部。以色列人當中的瘟疫馬上止住了， 9 但已有兩萬四千人死於瘟疫。
10 耶和華對摩西說： 11 「亞倫祭司的孫子、以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈消了我對以色列人的怒氣。因為在會眾中他與我一樣痛恨不貞，我才沒有在烈怒中消滅他們。 12 你告訴他，我要賜給他平安的約， 13 使他和他的後代憑此約可以永遠做祭司，因為他為我除掉了不貞之人，為以色列人贖了罪。」
14 與米甸女子一同被殺的以色列人名叫心利，是撒路的兒子，是西緬支派的一個族長。 15 被殺的米甸女子名叫哥斯比，她父親蘇珥是米甸人的一個族長。 16 耶和華對摩西說： 17 「你要攻打米甸人，擊殺他們。 18 因為他們心存敵意，在毗珥陷害你們，他們的姊妹——米甸首領的女兒哥斯比誘惑你們，她在毗珥事件招來瘟疫之日被殺。」

25 以色列人住在什亭，人民與摩押的女子行起淫亂來。 2 那些女子叫以色列人來，一同給她們的神獻祭，以色列人也吃了她們的祭物，跪拜她們的神。 3 以色列人與巴力．毘珥連合，耶和華就向以色列人發怒。 4 耶和華對摩西說：“把人民的首領都捉來，在我耶和華面前對著太陽把他們懸掛起來，好使耶和華的烈怒可以轉消，不向以色列人發作。” 5 於是摩西對以色列的審判官說：“你們各人要把與巴力．毘珥連合的人都殺了。”
6 摩西和以色列全體會眾在會幕門口哭泣的時候，以色列人中有一個人來，當著他們的面帶了一個米甸女子到自己的兄弟那裡去。 7 亞倫祭司的孫子、以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈看見了，就從會眾中起來，手裡拿著槍， 8 跟著那以色列人，進入臥室，把他們兩人刺透，就是刺透那以色列人和那女子。槍刺進了那女子的肚腹。這樣，在以色列人中的瘟疫才止住。 9 那時因瘟疫而死的，共有二萬四千人。
10 耶和華對摩西說： 11 “亞倫祭司的孫子、以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈，使我的烈怒稍消，不向以色列人發作，因為他在他們中間以我忌邪的心為心，使我不因我忌邪的心把他們消滅。 12 因此你要說：‘現在我把平安之約賜給他， 13 要給他和他的後裔作為永遠擔當祭司職分的約，因為他為他的 神有忌邪的心，為以色列人贖罪。’”
14 那被殺的以色列人，就是與那米甸女子一同被殺的人，名叫心利，是撒路的兒子，是西緬支派中一個家族的領袖。 15 那被殺的米甸女子，名叫哥斯比，是蘇珥的女兒；這蘇珥是米甸一個家族的族長。
16 耶和華對摩西說： 17 “你要擾害米甸人，打擊他們； 18 因為他們用詭計擾害你們；在毘珥的事上，和他們的姊妹，米甸領袖的女兒哥斯比的事上，用詭計欺騙了你們。”這哥斯比在瘟疫的日子，因毘珥的事被殺了。

25 Israel settled down and remained in Shittim, and the people began to play the harlot with the daughters of Moab,
2 Who invited the [Israelites] to the sacrifices of their gods, and [they] ate and bowed down to Moab’s gods.
3 So Israel joined himself to [the god] Baal of Peor. And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel.
4 And the Lord said to Moses, Take all the leaders or chiefs of the people, and hang them before the Lord in the sun [after killing them], that the fierce anger of the Lord may turn away from Israel.
5 And Moses said to the judges of Israel, Each one of you slay his men who joined themselves to Baal of Peor.
6 And behold, one of the Israelites came and brought to his brethren a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses and of all the congregation of Israel while they were weeping at the door of the Tent of Meeting [over the divine judgment and the punishment].
7 And when Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from the midst of the congregation and took a spear in his hand
8 And went after the man of Israel into the inner room and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel and the woman through her body. Then the [smiting] plague was stayed from the Israelites.
9 Nevertheless those who died in the [smiting] plague were 24,000.
10 And the Lord said to Moses,
11 Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned my wrath away from the Israelites, in that he was jealous with My jealousy among them, so that I did not consume the Israelites in My jealousy.
12 Therefore say, Behold, I give to Phinehas the priest My covenant of peace.
13 And he shall have it, and his descendants after him, the covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he was jealous for his God and made atonement for the Israelites.(A)
14 Now the man of Israel who was slain with the Midianite woman was Zimri son of Salu, a head of a father’s house among the Simeonites.
15 And the Midianite woman who was slain was Cozbi daughter of Zur; he was head of a father’s house in Midian.
16 And the Lord said to Moses,
17 Provoke hostilities with the Midianites and attack them,
18 For they harass you with their wiles with which they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and of Cozbi, the daughter of the prince of Midian, their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague in the matter of Peor.
