5 以色列的長子呂便的後裔。呂便玷污了父親的床，他長子的名分就歸了以色列的兒子約瑟的後裔；因此，家譜就不按出生順序登錄。 2 雖然猶大比他兄弟強盛，君王也從他而出，然而長子的名分卻歸約瑟。 3 以色列長子呂便的後裔如下：哈諾、法路、希斯倫和迦米。

5 The sons of Reuben(A) the firstborn of Israel (he was the firstborn, but when he defiled his father’s marriage bed,(B) his rights as firstborn were given to the sons of Joseph(C) son of Israel;(D) so he could not be listed in the genealogical record in accordance with his birthright,(E) 2 and though Judah(F) was the strongest of his brothers and a ruler(G) came from him, the rights of the firstborn(H) belonged to Joseph)— 3 the sons of Reuben(I) the firstborn of Israel:
