7 基列·耶琳人就下来把耶和华的约柜抬到山上，放在亚比拿达的家里，派他的儿子以利亚撒看守耶和华的约柜。
撒母耳征服非利士人
2 约柜在基列·耶琳停留了二十年。那时，全体以色列人都痛悔地寻求耶和华。 3 撒母耳对他们说：“如果你们全心归向耶和华，就要除掉你们那些外族的神明，包括亚斯她录神像，一心归向耶和华，单单事奉祂，祂必从非利士人手中救你们。” 4 于是，他们除掉了巴力和亚斯她录神像，单单事奉耶和华。
5 撒母耳又说：“你们全体以色列人到米斯巴来，我会为你们向耶和华祈求。” 6 他们就在那里聚集，打水倒在耶和华面前，并在当天禁食。他们说：“我们得罪了耶和华。”于是，撒母耳在米斯巴做以色列人的士师。 7 非利士人听说以色列人在米斯巴聚集，他们的首领就率领军队来攻打以色列人。以色列人听见消息后，非常害怕。 8 他们对撒母耳说：“请你为我们不停地呼求我们的上帝耶和华，求祂从非利士人手中拯救我们。” 9 撒母耳把一只还在吃奶的羊献给耶和华作全牲燔祭。他为以色列人呼求耶和华，耶和华垂听了他的祈求。 10 撒母耳正在献燔祭的时候，非利士人已经逼近了。那天，耶和华向非利士人发出雷霆之声，使他们陷入一片恐慌，败在了以色列人手下。 11 以色列人从米斯巴一路追杀他们，直到伯·甲附近。
12 撒母耳拿了一块石头放在米斯巴和善的中间，称之为以便以谢[a]，说：“耶和华到如今都帮助我们。”

15 撒母耳一生做以色列人的士师。 16 他每年都到伯利恒、吉甲、米斯巴各地巡回，审理以色列人的案件。 17 之后，他才回到拉玛自己的家中，也在那里审理以色列人的案件，并为耶和华筑了一座祭坛。

7 基列．耶琳人就前來，把耶和華的約櫃抬上去；他們把它抬到山上亞比拿達的家中，又把他的兒子以利亞撒分別為聖，看守耶和華的約櫃。 2 約櫃停留在基列．耶琳很久，有二十年之久，以色列全家都痛悔尋求耶和華。
撒母耳禱告，以色列人戰勝
3 於是撒母耳對以色列全家說：“如果你們一心歸向耶和華，就當把外族的神和亞斯他錄從你們中間除掉，專心歸向耶和華，單單事奉他，他必救你們脫離非利士人的手。” 4 以色列人就除掉眾巴力和亞斯他錄，單單事奉耶和華。
5 撒母耳又說：“你們要把以色列眾人都聚集在米斯巴，我好為你們向耶和華禱告。” 6 於是，他們聚集在米斯巴，打了水，澆奠在耶和華面前；當日他們禁食，並且在那裡說：“我們得罪了耶和華。”撒母耳就在米斯巴治理以色列人。 7 非利士人聽見以色列人集合在米斯巴，各城的領袖就上來攻打以色列人；以色列人聽見了，都害怕起來。 8 以色列人對撒母耳說：“請你不要靜默，為我們呼求耶和華我們的 神吧，好叫他拯救我們脫離非利士人的手。” 9 撒母耳就牽來一隻還在吃奶的羊羔，把牠作全牲的燔祭獻給耶和華，又為以色列人向耶和華呼求，耶和華就應允他。 10 撒母耳正在獻上燔祭的時候，非利士人前來要與以色列人爭戰。當天，耶和華發出極大的雷聲，攻擊非利士人，使他們潰亂，他們就在以色列人面前被擊敗。 11 於是以色列人從米斯巴出去，追趕非利士人，擊殺他們，直到伯．甲的下邊。
12 撒母耳搬來了一塊石頭，把它豎立在米斯巴和善之間，給這塊石頭起名叫以便以謝，說：“直到現在，耶和華都幫助我們。” 13 這樣，非利士人就被制伏了，不再侵犯以色列的境界。撒母耳在世的日子，耶和華的手一直攻擊非利士人。 14 非利士人從以色列人奪得的城市，自以革倫直到迦特，都歸還以色列人；屬於這些城市的四境，以色列人也從非利士人手中奪回。那時，以色列人和亞摩利人和平相處。

7 And the men of Kirjathjearim came, and fetched up the ark of the Lord, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the Lord.
2 And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjathjearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the Lord.
3 And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the Lord with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the Lord, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.
4 Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the Lord only.
5 And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the Lord.
6 And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the Lord, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against the Lord. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.
7 And when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.
8 And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry unto the Lord our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.
9 And Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for a burnt offering wholly unto the Lord: and Samuel cried unto the Lord for Israel; and the Lord heard him.
10 And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the Lord thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Israel.
11 And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until they came under Bethcar.
12 Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the Lord helped us.
13 So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more into the coast of Israel: and the hand of the Lord was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.
14 And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even unto Gath; and the coasts thereof did Israel deliver out of the hands of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites.
15 And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.
16 And he went from year to year in circuit to Bethel, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and judged Israel in all those places.
17 And his return was to Ramah; for there was his house; and there he judged Israel; and there he built an altar unto the Lord.
