必有人不信主再来的应许
3 亲爱的，我现在写给你们的是第二封信。在这两封信中，我都用提醒的话来激发你们真诚的心， 2 叫你们记起圣先知说过的话，和主救主借着使徒传给你们的诫命。 3 最重要的，你们应当知道：在末后的日子，必定有好讥笑的人出来，随着自己的私欲讥笑说： 4 “他要降临的应许在哪里呢？因为自从列祖睡了以来，万物依然存在，与起初创造的时候一样。” 5 他们故意忘记这事：在太古的时候，因着 神的话，就有了天，和从水而出、藉水而成的地。 6 当时的世界，因被水淹没而消灭了。 7 但现在的天地，还是因着同样的话可以存留，直到不敬虔的人受审判和遭灭亡的日子，用火焚烧。
主必再来
8 亲爱的，这一件事你们不可忘记：在主看来，一日如千年，千年如一日。 9 主决不耽延他的应许，像有些人以为他是耽延的一样；其实他是宽容你们，不愿有一人灭亡，却愿人人都悔改。 10 但主的日子必要像贼一样来到。在那日，天必轰然一声地消失，所有元素都因烈火而融化；地和地上所有的，都要被烧毁（“被烧毁”有不少古抄本作“被发现”）。 11 这一切既然都要这样融化，你们应当怎样为人，过着圣洁和敬虔的生活， 12 等候并催促 神的日子降临呢？因为在那日，天要被火焚烧就融化了，所有元素都因烈火而融解！ 13 但是我们按照他所应许的，等候新天新地，有公义在那里居住。
要在主的恩典和知识上长进
14 所以，亲爱的，你们既然等候这些事，就当殷勤努力，使你们没有污点，没有瑕疵，安然见主。 15 并且要以我们的主恒久忍耐为给人得救的机会，就如我们所亲爱的弟兄保罗，按照所赐给他的智慧，写给你们的一样； 16 他在一切书信上，都讲论这些事。在这些书信中，有些难明白的地方，那不学无术和不稳定的人加以曲解，好象曲解别的经书一样，就自取灭亡。 17 所以，亲爱的，你们既然预先知道了，就要谨慎，免得受恶人的错谬引导，就从自己坚固的地步上坠落。 18 你们却要在我们的主、救主耶稣基督的恩典和知识上长进。愿荣耀归给他，从现在直到永远。阿们。

The Day of the Lord Will Come
3 This is now the second letter that I am writing to you, beloved. In both of them (A)I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder, 2 (B)that you should remember the predictions of (C)the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles, 3 knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come (D)in the last days with scoffing, (E)following their own sinful desires. 4 (F)They will say, “Where is the promise of (G)his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.” 5 For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth (H)was formed out of water and through water (I)by the word of God, 6 and that by means of these the world that then existed (J)was deluged with water and (K)perished. 7 But by the same word (L)the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and (M)destruction of the ungodly.
8 But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and (N)a thousand years as one day. 9 (O)The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise (P)as some count slowness, but (Q)is patient toward you,[a] (R)not wishing that any should perish, but (S)that all should reach repentance. 10 But (T)the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then (U)the heavens will pass away with a roar, and (V)the heavenly bodies[b] will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.[c]
11 Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, (W)what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, 12 (X)waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and (Y)the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! 13 But according to his promise we are waiting for (Z)new heavens and a new earth (AA)in which righteousness dwells.
Final Words
14 (AB)Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him (AC)without spot or (AD)blemish, and (AE)at peace. 15 And count (AF)the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as (AG)our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you (AH)according to the wisdom given him, 16 as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. (AI)There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, (AJ)as they do the other Scriptures. 17 You therefore, beloved, (AK)knowing this beforehand, (AL)take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. 18 But (AM)grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (AN)To him be the glory both now and to the day of (AO)eternity. Amen.

3 Detta är redan det andra brevet som jag skriver till er, mina älskade. I båda har jag genom mina påminnelser velat väcka ert rena sinne, 2 så att ni tänker på vad som har blivit förutsagt av de heliga profeterna[a] och på budskapet från Herren och Frälsaren som ni hört era apostlar förkunna. 3 Framför allt skall ni veta, att i de sista dagarna kommer det människor som drivs av sina begär och som förtalar och hånar er 4 och frågar: "Hur går det med löftet om hans återkomst? Ända sedan våra fäder dog förblir ju allting precis som det har varit från världens begynnelse." 5 De som påstår detta bortser från att det för länge sedan fanns himlar och en jord som uppstod ur vatten och genom vatten, i kraft av Guds ord. 6 I vatten och i kraft av Guds ord dränktes den dåtida världen och gick under. 7 Men de himlar och den jord som nu finns har i kraft av samma ord blivit sparade åt eld och förvaras till den dag då de ogudaktiga skall dömas och bli fördömda.
8 Men glöm inte detta, mina älskade, att en dag för Herren är som tusen år och tusen år som en dag. 9 Herren dröjer inte med att uppfylla sitt löfte, så som en del menar. Nej, han har tålamod med er, eftersom han inte vill att någon skall gå förlorad utan att alla skall få tid att omvända sig. 10 Men Herrens dag kommer som en tjuv, och då skall himlarna försvinna under våldsamt dån och himlakroppar upplösas av hetta och jorden och de verk som är på den inte mer finnas till.[b] 11 Då nu allt detta går mot sin upplösning, hur heligt och gudfruktigt skall ni då inte leva, 12 medan ni väntar på Guds dag och påskyndar dess ankomst - den dag som får himlar att upplösas i eld och himlakroppar att smälta av hetta. 13 Men nya himlar och en ny jord där rättfärdighet bor, väntar vi på efter hans löfte.
Slutförmaningar
14 Därför, mina älskade, eftersom ni väntar på detta, gör allt ni kan för att leva i frid, rena och oförvitliga inför honom 15 och räkna med att vår Herres tålamod tjänar till er frälsning. Så har också vår älskade broder Paulus skrivit till er enligt den vishet som han fått, 16 och så gör han i alla sina brev, när han talar om detta. I dessa brev finns en del som är svårt att förstå och som okunniga och obefästa människor förvränger till sitt eget fördärv - något som också sker med de övriga Skrifterna.[c]
17 Därför, mina älskade, då ni redan vet detta, var på er vakt, så att ni inte dras med i de laglösas villfarelse och förlorar ert fäste. 18 Väx i stället till i nåd och kunskap om vår Herre och Frälsare Jesus Kristus. Hans är äran nu och till evighetens dag, amen.
