夫妻之道
3 1-2 照样，做妻子的要顺服丈夫。这样，即使丈夫不信从真道，也会因为看见妻子贞洁和敬虔的品行而被无声地感化。 3 你们不要注重外表的妆饰，像编头发、戴金饰或穿华丽的衣服， 4 要以温柔、娴静这些永不褪色的内在美为妆饰，这是上帝所看重的。 5 从前那些仰赖上帝的圣洁妇女，都是以这些来妆饰自己，并顺服自己的丈夫， 6 正如撒拉顺服亚伯拉罕，称他为主人。所以，如果你们做对的事，不怕恐吓，就是撒拉的女儿。
7 你们做丈夫的也一样，要按情理[a]与妻子共同生活，因为她们比你们软弱。要敬重她们，因为她们和你们一同承受上帝施恩赐下的生命。这样，你们的祷告就可以畅通无阻了。
要为义受苦
8 总而言之，你们要同心合意，互相关怀，彼此相爱，仁慈谦虚。 9 不要以恶报恶，以辱骂还辱骂，反要祝福对方，这是你们蒙召的目的，好叫你们得到祝福。 10 因为圣经上说：
“若有人热爱生命，
渴望幸福，
就要舌头不出恶言，
嘴唇不说诡诈的话。
11 要弃恶行善，竭力追求和睦。
12 因为主的眼睛看顾义人，
祂的耳朵垂听他们的祈求。
但主必严惩作恶之人。”
13 如果你们热心行善，有谁会害你们呢？ 14 就算你们为义受苦，也是有福的。不要害怕别人的恐吓[b]，也不要惊慌， 15 要心里尊基督为主。如果有人问起你们心中的盼望，你们要随时准备答复， 16 但态度要温和恭敬，存无愧的良心。这样，那些对你们因信基督而有的好品行妄加诬蔑的人会自觉羞愧。 17 如果上帝的旨意是要你们因行善而受苦，这也总比你们因作恶而受苦强。
18 因为基督也曾一次为罪受苦，以无罪之身代替不义之人，为要领你们到上帝面前。祂的肉体虽被处死，但祂借着圣灵复活了。 19 祂还借着圣灵向那些监狱中的灵魂传道， 20 他们就是从前在挪亚造方舟、上帝耐心等候人们悔改的时代中那些不肯信的人。当时进入方舟，从洪水中得救的人很少，只有八个人。 21 这水代表的洗礼现在借着耶稣基督的复活也拯救了你们。这洗礼要表明的不是除掉肉体的污秽，而是求在上帝面前有无愧的良心。 22 基督已经升到天上，坐在上帝的右边，众天使、掌权的、有能力的都服从了祂。

3 照樣，你們作妻子的，要順服自己的丈夫，好使不信道的丈夫受到感動，不是因著你們的言語，而是因著你們的生活， 2 因為他們看見了你們敬畏和純潔的生活。 3 不要單注重外表的裝飾，就如鬈頭髮、戴金飾、穿華麗衣服； 4 卻要在裡面存著溫柔安靜的心靈，作不能毀壞的裝飾，這在 神面前是極寶貴的。 5 因為古時仰望 神的聖潔婦女，正是這樣裝飾自己，順服丈夫， 6 像撒拉聽從亞伯拉罕，稱他為主一樣；你們若行善，不怕任何恐嚇，就是撒拉的女兒了。
7 照樣，你們作丈夫的，也要合情合理的與妻子同住。要體諒她比你軟弱，要尊敬她，因為她是和你一同承受生命的恩典的。這樣，就使你們的禱告不受攔阻。
為義受苦的有福了
8 總括來說，你們要彼此同心，互相體恤，親愛像弟兄，滿有溫柔，存心謙卑。 9 不要以惡報惡，以辱罵還辱罵，倒要祝福，因為你們就是為此蒙召，好叫你們承受福氣。 10 因為
“凡希望享受人生，
要看見好日子的，
就要禁止舌頭不出惡言，
嘴唇不說詭詐的話；
11 也要離惡行善，
尋找並追求和睦。
12 因為主的眼睛看顧義人，
他的耳朵垂聽他們的呼求；
但主的臉敵對作惡的人。”
13 如果你們熱心行善，有誰能害你們呢？ 14 就算你們要為義受苦，也是有福的。“不要怕人的恐嚇，也不要畏懼。” 15 只要心裡尊基督為聖，以他為主；常常作好準備，去回答那些問你們為甚麼懷有盼望的人， 16 但要用溫柔敬畏的心回答。當存無愧的良心，使那些誣賴你們這在基督裡有好品行的人，在毀謗你們的事上蒙羞。 17 如果 神的旨意是要你們受苦，那麼為行善受苦，總比為行惡受苦好。 18 因為基督也曾一次為你們的罪死了，就是義的代替不義的，為要領你們到 神面前。就肉體的方面說，他曾死去；就靈的方面說，他復活了； 19 他藉這靈也曾去向那些在監管中的靈宣講， 20 他們就是挪亞建造方舟的日子、 神容忍等待的時候，那些不順從的人。當時進入方舟、藉著水得救的人不多，只有八個。 21 這水預表的洗禮，現在也拯救你們：不是除去肉體的污穢，而是藉著耶穌基督的復活，向 神許願常存純潔的良心。 22 基督已進到天上，在 神右邊，眾天使、有權勢的、有能力的，都服從了他。

Wives and Husbands
3 In the same way, wives,(A) submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, even if some disobey the Christian message,(B) they may be won over[a](C) without a message by the way their wives live(D) 2 when they observe your pure, reverent lives.(E) 3 Your beauty should not consist of outward things like elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold ornaments[b] or fine clothes.(F) 4 Instead, it should consist of what is inside[c] the heart(G) with the imperishable quality of a gentle(H) and quiet(I) spirit, which is very valuable in God’s eyes. 5 For in the past, the holy(J) women who put their hope(K) in God also beautified themselves in this way, submitting to their own husbands, 6 just as Sarah(L) obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. You have become her children when you do what is good and are not frightened by anything alarming.(M)
7 Husbands,(N) in the same way, live with your wives with an understanding of their weaker nature[d](O) yet showing them honor as coheirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.
Do No Evil
8 Now finally, all of you should be like-minded and sympathetic, should love believers,[e](P) and be compassionate(Q) and humble,[f] 9 not paying back evil for evil(R) or insult for insult but, on the contrary, giving a blessing,(S) since you were called for this, so that you can inherit a blessing.
10 For the(T) one who wants to love life
and to see good days
must keep his tongue from evil(U)
and his lips from speaking deceit,(V)
11 and he must turn away(W) from evil
and do what is good.
He must seek peace(X) and pursue it,
12 because the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and His ears are open to their request.
But the face of the Lord is against
those who do what is evil.[g]
Undeserved Suffering
13 And who will harm[h] you if you are deeply committed to what is good?[i] 14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness,(Y) you are blessed. Do not fear what they fear(Z) or be disturbed,(AA)[j] 15 but honor[k] the Messiah[l] as Lord in your hearts. Always be ready to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason[m] for the hope that is in you.(AB) 16 However, do this with gentleness and respect, keeping your conscience clear,[n][o](AC) so that when you are accused,[p] those who denounce your Christian life[q] will be put to shame. 17 For it is better to suffer(AD) for doing good, if that should be God’s will,[r] than for doing evil.
18 For Christ also suffered(AE) for sins once for all,[s](AF)
the righteous for the unrighteous,[t]
that He might bring you[u] to God,(AG)
after being put to death in the fleshly realm[v](AH)
but made alive in the spiritual realm.[w]
19 In that state[x] He also went and made a proclamation to the spirits(AI) in prison[y] 20 who in the past were disobedient, when God patiently waited in the days of Noah(AJ) while an ark was being prepared. In it a few—that is, eight people[z](AK)—were saved through water. 21 Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you (not the removal of the filth of the flesh,(AL) but the pledge[aa] of a good conscience toward God) through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.(AM) 22 Now that He has gone into heaven,(AN) He is at God’s right hand(AO) with angels, authorities, and powers subject to Him.(AP)

행복한 가정의 비결
3 아내 된 여러분은 남편에게 순종하십시오. 그러면 주님의 말씀을 믿지 않는 남 편이라도 말없이 실천하는 여러분의 행동을 보고 하나님을 믿게 될 것입니다.
2 남편들은 여러분이 하나님을 섬기면서 깨끗한 생활을 하는 것을 지켜 보고 있습니다.
3 여러분은 겉모양만 화려하게 꾸미지 말고
4 유순하고 정숙한 마음가짐으로 속 사람을 아름답게 하십시오. 그것은 하나님이 보시기에 매우 귀한 일입니다.
5 옛날 하나님에게 희망을 두었던 거룩한 여자들도 이와 같이 자기 남편에게 복종함으로 자기를 꾸몄습니다.
6 사라는 자기 남편인 아브라함을 ‘주’ 라고 부르며 그에게 복종했던 것입니다. 여러분도 사라를 본받아 어떤 일에도 두려워하지 않고 선한 일을 하면 그녀의 딸이 됩니다.
7 남편 된 여러분은 아내를 잘 이해하며 함께 살아가십시오. 아내는 더 연약한 그릇이며 [a]은혜로 주시는 영원한 생명을 함께 누릴 반려자로 알고 소중하게 여기십시오. 이것은 여러분의 기도 생활이 방해를 받지 않기 위해서입니다.

8 마지막으로 말합니다. 여러분은 한마음으로 서로 동정하고 형제처럼 사랑하고 불쌍히 여기며 겸손하십시오.
9 악을 악으로, 욕을 욕으로 갚지 말고 오히려 축복해 주십시오. 그것은 여러분이 하나님의 복을 받아 누리도록 부르심을 받았기 때문입니다.

13 여러분이 열심으로 선한 일을 한다면 누가 해치겠습니까?
14 그러나 옳은 일을 위해 고난을 받는다면 여러분은 행복한 사람입니다. 그러므로 사람들이 협박을 하더라도 겁내거나 무서워하지 말고
15 마음에 주님이신 그리스도를 거룩하게 모십시오. 그리고 여러분이 간직한 희망에 대해서 그 이유를 묻는 사람에게는 언제나 부드럽고 공손하게 대답할 준비를 하고
16 선한 양심으로 생활하십시오. 그러면 여러분이 그리스도 안에서 행한 선한 일을 헐뜯고 욕하는 사람들이 도리어 부끄러움을 당하게 될 것입니다.
17 선한 일을 하면서 고난을 받는 것이 하나님의 뜻이라면 악한 일을 하면서 고난을 받는 것보다는 낫습니다.
18 죄가 없으신 그리스도께서 죄인들을 위해 한 번 죽으신 것은 죄인인 우리를 하나님께로 인도하시기 위해서입니다. 육체적으로는 죽음을 당하셨으나 영으로 살아나신
19 예수님은 갇혀 있는 영들에게 가서 기쁜 소식을 전파하셨습니다.
20 그들은 옛날 노아가 배를 준비하는 동안 하나님께서 참고 기다리셨으나 하나님께 불순종하던 영들입니다. 그때 배에 들어가 홍수에서 구원을 받은 사람은 겨우 여덟 명뿐이었습니다.
21 이 물은 예수 그리스도의 부활을 통해서 여러분을 구원하는 [c]세례를 상징합니다. 이 세례는 몸의 더러운 것을 없애 버리는 것이 아니라 오직 선한 양심이 하나님을 향해 찾아가는 것입니다.
22 그리스도께서는 하늘에 올라가셔서 지금 하나님의 오른편에 계시며 권세와 능력을 가진 모든 천사들을 지배하고 계십니다.
