警醒謹慎等候主再來

5 弟兄們，論到時候和日期，不用寫甚麼給你們了。 ²因為你們自己清楚知道，主的日子來到，就像夜間的賊來到一樣。 ³人正在說平安穩妥的時候，毀滅性的災禍就突然臨到他們，好像生產的痛苦臨到懷胎的婦人一樣，他們絕不能逃脫。 ⁴但是弟兄們，你們不在黑暗裡，以致那日子會臨到你們像賊來到一樣。 ⁵你們都是光明之子、白晝之子；我們不是屬於黑夜的，也不是屬於黑暗的。 ⁶所以，我們不要沉睡像別人一樣，總要警醒謹慎。 ⁷因為睡覺的人是在晚上睡，醉酒的人是在晚上醉； ⁸但我們既然屬於白晝，就應當謹慎，披上信和愛的胸甲，戴上救恩的盼望作頭盔。 ⁹因為　神不是定意要我們受刑罰（“刑罰”原文作“忿怒”），而是要我們藉著我們的主耶穌基督得著救恩。 ¹⁰基督替我們死，使我們無論是醒著或睡著，都和他一同活著。 ¹¹所以，你們應該彼此勸慰，互相造就，正如你們一向所行的。

訓勉和祝福

¹²弟兄們，我們求你們要敬重那些在你們中間勞苦的人，就是在主裡面治理你們、勸戒你們的人。 ¹³又因為他們的工作，你們要用愛心格外尊重他們。你們應當彼此和睦。 ¹⁴弟兄們，我們勸你們，要警戒游手好閒的人，勉勵灰心喪志的人，扶助軟弱無力的人，也要容忍所有的人。 ¹⁵你們要注意，不管是誰都不要以惡報惡，卻要在彼此相處和對待眾人這方面，常常追求良善。

¹⁶要常常喜樂， ¹⁷不住禱告， ¹⁸凡事謝恩；這就是　神在基督耶穌裡給你們的旨意。 ¹⁹不要熄滅聖靈的感動。 ²⁰不要藐視先知的話語。 ²¹凡事都要察驗，好的要持守， ²²各樣的惡事要遠離。

²³願賜平安的　神親自使你們完全成聖，又願你們整個人：靈、魂和身體都得蒙保守，在我們的主耶穌基督再來的時候，無可指摘。 ²⁴那呼召你們的是信實的，他必成就這事。

²⁵弟兄們，請為我們禱告。

²⁶要用聖潔的親吻問候眾弟兄。 ²⁷我憑著主吩咐你們，要把這封信讀給眾弟兄聽。

²⁸願我們主耶穌基督的恩惠與你們同在。

为主的来临做准备

5 兄弟们，关于时间和日期，我不需要写信告诉你们， ²因为你们自己很清楚。主重返那天就像夜里的盗贼一样，出其不意。 ³当人们正说：一切都安然无恙时，灾难会突然降临在他们身上，就像分娩的痛苦降临在孕妇身上那样，使他们无法逃避。 ⁴但是，兄弟们，你们不要生活在黑暗（罪）之中，那么，那天就不会像盗贼一样令你们吃惊， ⁵因为你们属于光明（善良），属于白昼，我们不属于黑夜或黑暗（邪恶）。 ⁶让我们不要像其他人一样沉睡，而要保持清醒和自律。 ⁷睡觉的人，都是在夜里睡觉；喝醉的人，也都是在夜里喝醉。 ⁸既然我们属于白昼，我们就应该自律，就应该让我们的信仰和爱做为护身甲，把拯救的希望做为我们的头盔。 ⁹因为上帝选择我们不是让我们承受他的愤怒，而是让我们通过我们的主耶稣基督获得拯救。 ¹⁰他为我们而死，因此，不论我们是生还是死，当耶稣来临时，我们都能和他生活在一起。 ¹¹所以你们要互相勉励，给彼此以力量，正像你们现在所做的那样.

最后的指导和问候

¹²兄弟们，我们请求你们，尊重你们中间那些勤奋工作、在主内指导和教导你们的人。 ¹³由于他们的工作，你们应该用最大的敬意与爱心对待他们。

你们彼此要和睦相处。 ¹⁴兄弟们，我们督促你们：警告游手好闲的人，安慰胆怯的人，帮助弱者，并以耐心对待所有的人。 ¹⁵当心不要以恶报恶，而要努力对彼此和所有的人行善。

¹⁶要常怀喜乐， ¹⁷不断地祈祷， ¹⁸在任何环境下都要感谢上帝。

¹⁹不要让圣灵之火熄灭， ²⁰不要轻视先知的信息。凡事都要检验，肯定它们是否真正来自上帝，要去恶扬善。

²³愿上帝，和平之源，使你们完全彻底地献身于他。愿你们的灵、生命与身体，在主耶稣基督来临时无可指责。 ²⁴召唤你们的上帝是可信的，他会为你们成全此事的。

²⁵兄弟们，也请为我们祈祷。 ²⁶用圣吻问候所有的兄弟。 ²⁷我要你们在主面前发誓，要把这封信读给所有的兄弟听。 ²⁸愿我们的主耶稣基督的恩典与你们同在。

The Day of the Lord

5 Now concerning the ^(A)times and the seasons, brothers, you ^(B)have no need of anything to be written to you. ²For you yourselves know full well that ^(C)the day of the Lord ^[a]will come ^(D)just like a thief in the night. ³While they are saying, “^(E)Peace and safety!” then ^[b]^(F)destruction ^[c]will come upon them suddenly like ^(G)labor pains upon a woman who is pregnant, and they will never escape. ⁴But you, brothers, are not in ^(H)darkness, that the day would overtake you ^[d]^(I)like a thief, ⁵for you are all ^(J)sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of ^(K)darkness; ⁶so then let us not ^(L)sleep as ^[e]^(M)others do, but let us be awake and ^[f]^(N)sober. ⁷For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get ^(O)drunk at night. ⁸But since ^(P)we are of the day, let us ^(Q)be ^[g]sober, having put on the ^(R)breastplate of ^(S)faith and love, and as a ^(T)helmet, the ^(U)hope of salvation. ⁹For God has not appointed us for ^(V)wrath, but for ^(W)obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, ¹⁰^(X)who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him. ¹¹Therefore, ^[h]comfort one another and ^(Y)build up one another, just as you also are doing.

Admonishment and Instruction

¹²But we ask of you, brothers, that you ^(Z)know those ^(AA)who labor among you, and ^(AB)lead you in the Lord and admonish you, ¹³and that you regard them very highly in love because of their work. ^(AC)Live in peace with one another. ¹⁴And we urge you, brothers, admonish ^(AD)the ^[i]unruly, encourage ^(AE)the fainthearted, help ^(AF)the weak, be ^(AG)patient with everyone. ¹⁵See that ^(AH)no one repays another with evil for evil, but always ^(AI)seek after that which is good for one another and for all people. ¹⁶^(AJ)Rejoice always; ¹⁷^(AK)pray without ceasing; ¹⁸in everything ^(AL)give thanks, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. ¹⁹^(AM)Do not quench the Spirit; ²⁰do not despise ^(AN)prophecies, ²¹but ^(AO)examine all things; ^(AP)hold fast to that which is good; ²²abstain from every ^[j]form of evil.

²³Now ^(AQ)may the God of peace ^(AR)Himself sanctify you entirely, and may your ^(AS)spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, ^(AT)without blame at ^(AU)the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. ²⁴^(AV)Faithful is He who ^(AW)calls you, who also will do it.

²⁵Brothers, ^(AX)pray for us^[k].
