耶稣超越摩西
3 同蒙天召的圣洁弟兄啊，要思想我们所宣认为使者、为大祭司的耶稣； 2 他向指派他的尽忠，如同摩西向 神的全[a]家尽忠一样。 3 他比摩西配得更多的荣耀，好像建造房屋的人比房屋更尊荣； 4 因为房屋都必有人建造，但建造万物的是 神。 5 摩西作为仆人，向 神的全家尽忠，为将来要谈论的事作证； 6 但是基督作为儿子，治理 神的家。我们若坚持因盼望而有的胆量和夸耀，我们就是他的家了。
神子民的安息
7 所以，正如圣灵所说：
“今日，你们若听他的话，
8 就不可硬着心，像在背叛之时，
就如在旷野受试探之日。
9 在那里，你们的祖宗试探我，
并且观看我的作为，
10 有四十年之久。
所以，我厌烦那世代，
说：他们的心常常迷糊，
竟不知道我的道路！
11 我在怒中起誓：
他们断不可进入我的安息！”
12 弟兄们，你们要谨慎，免得你们中间有人存着邪恶不信的心，离弃了永生的 神。 13 总要趁着还有今日，天天彼此相劝，免得你们中间有人被罪迷惑，心肠刚硬了。 14 只要我们将起初确实的信心坚持到底，就在基督里有份了。 15 经上说：
“今日，你们若听他的话，
就不可硬着心，像在背叛之时。”
16 听见他而又背叛他的是谁呢？岂不是跟着摩西从埃及出来的众人吗？ 17 神向谁发怒四十年之久呢？岂不是那些犯罪而陈尸在旷野的人吗？ 18 他向谁起誓，不容他们进入他的安息呢？岂不是向那些不信从的人吗？ 19 这样看来，他们不能进入安息是因为不信的缘故了。

耶稣比摩西更伟大
3 一同分享天堂召唤的神圣的兄弟们，想一想耶稣，我们所承认的使徒和大祭司吧。 2 他忠于任命他的上帝，就像摩西在上帝的居所尽忠一样。 3 耶稣比摩西配得上更多的荣誉，就像建造房屋的人比房屋本身配得上更多的荣誉那样。 4 每个房屋都是由人建造的，但是，上帝是所有一切的建造者。 5 摩西在上帝的居所像一名仆人处处都是忠诚的，他向人们证实了上帝所说的未来的一切。 6 基督做为上帝的儿子，忠实地管理着上帝的家务。如果我们继续对希望充满勇气与信心，我们就是他的家庭成员。
我们必须继续跟随上帝
7 正如圣灵所说：
“今天，如果你们听到了上帝的声音，
8 不要固执，
不要像从前在荒野中
试探上帝时那样反抗他，
9 你们的祖先考验我，试探我，
尽管他们看到了我的所作所为，
10 达四十年之久。
这就是为什么我对那一代感到
气愤的原因，所以，我说道，
‘他们的思想总是误入歧途，
这些人从未认识我的道路。’
11 所以，我一怒之下发誓说：
‘他们绝不能进入我的安宁。’” (A)
12 兄弟们，你们要当心，谁也不要存罪恶和不信、背弃活生生的上帝之心。 13 只要还存在“今天” [a]，你们就应该每天都互相鼓励，这样，你们才不会有人受到罪恶的愚弄，心肠变硬。 14 只要我们自始至终坚定不移地坚持我们当初的信仰，我们都会与基督共享。 15 正如《经》里写到的：
“今日，如果你们听到上帝的声音，
不要固执，
不要像过去那样对抗上帝。” (B)
16 谁是那听到了上帝的声音，却依然对抗上帝的人呢？难道不是那些被摩西领出埃及的人吗？ 17 是谁惹怒了上帝整整四十年？难道不是那些做了孽、结果陈尸旷野的人吗？ 18 上帝发誓不让谁从他那里得到安息呢？难道不是那些不服从上帝的人吗？ 19 因此，我们知道，因为他们没有信仰，所以他们没有从上帝那里得到安宁。

3 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.
3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
4 For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.
5 And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;
6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,
8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.
10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.
11 So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)
12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;
15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
16 For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.
17 But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?
18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?
19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
