3 (A) Översteprästen Eljashib och hans bröder prästerna började bygga Fårporten. De helgade den och satte sedan in dörrarna. De byggde fram till Hammeatornet, som de helgade, och vidare fram till Hananeltornet. 2 Bredvid Eljashib byggde Jerikos män, och bredvid dem byggde Sackur, Imris son.
3 Fiskporten byggdes av Hassenaas barn. De timrade upp den och satte in dörrar, lås och bommar. 4 Bredvid dem arbetade Meremot, son till Uria, son till Hackos, med att sätta muren i stånd. Bredvid honom arbetade Meshullam, son till Berekja, son till Mesesabel. Bredvid honom arbetade Sadok, Baanas son. 5 Vid sidan av honom arbetade tekoaiterna, men de förnämsta bland dem ville inte böja sin nacke för att tjäna sin Herre.
6 Gamla porten sattes i stånd av Jojada, Paseas son och Meshullam, Besodjas son. De timrade upp den och satte in dörrar, lås och bommar. 7 Bredvid dem arbetade gibeoniten Melatja och meronotiten Jadon tillsammans med männen från Gibeon och Mispa, som lydde under ståthållaren i landet på andra sidan floden. 8 Bredvid dem arbetade Ussiel, Harhajas son, tillsammans med guldsmederna. Bredvid dem arbetade Hananja, en av dem som tillverkade salvor. Den närmast liggande delen av Jerusalem lät man vara ända till Breda muren. 9 Vid sidan av dem arbetade Refaja, Hurs son, ledare över ena hälften av Jerusalems område.
10 Vid sidan av honom arbetade Jedaja, Harumafs son, mitt emot sitt eget hus, och bredvid honom arbetade Hattush, Hashabnejas son. 11 En annan sträcka av muren och Ugnstornet sattes i stånd av Malkia, Harims son, och Hashub, Pahat-Moabs son. 12 Bredvid honom arbetade Shallum, Halloheshs son, ledare över andra hälften av Jerusalems område, tillsammans med sina döttrar.
13 Dalporten sattes i stånd av Hanun och Sanoas invånare. De byggde upp den och satte in dörrar, lås och bommar. De byggde också ettusen alnar[a] på muren, ända fram till Dyngporten.
14 Dyngporten sattes i stånd av Malkia, Rekabs son, ledare över Bet-Hackerems område. Han byggde upp den och satte in dörrar, lås och bommar.
15 Källporten sattes i stånd av Shallum, Kol-Hoses son, ledare över Mispas område. Han byggde upp den och lade tak på den och satte in dörrar, lås och bommar. Han byggde också muren vid Vattenledningsdammen intill den kungliga trädgården, ända fram till trapporna ner från Davids stad. 16 Efter honom arbetade Nehemja, Asbuks son, ledare över ena hälften av Bet-Surs område. Han satte i stånd muren ner till platsen mitt emot Davidsgravarna och vidare fram till den grävda dammen och till Hjältehuset.
Leviter som arbetade på muren
17 Efter honom arbetade leviterna under Rehum, Banis son. Bredvid dem arbetade Hashabja, ledare över ena hälften av Keilas område, för sitt område. 18 Efter honom arbetade deras bröder under Bavvaj,[b] Henadads son, ledare över andra hälften av Keilas område. 19 (B) Bredvid honom sattes en annan sträcka i stånd av Eser, Jeshuas son[c], ledare över Mispa, från platsen mitt emot uppgången till vapenförrådet i Vinkeln. 20 Efter honom arbetade Baruk, Sabbajs son, med stor iver på en annan sträcka, från Vinkeln ända fram till ingången till översteprästen Eljashibs hus. 21 Efter honom arbetade Meremot, son till Uria, son till Hackos, på en annan sträcka från ingången till Eljashibs hus ända till slutet av Eljashibs hus.
Präster som arbetade på muren
22 Efter honom arbetade prästerna, männen från Jordanslätten.
23 Efter dem arbetade Benjamin och Hashub mitt emot sitt eget hus. Bredvid dem arbetade Asarja, son till Maaseja, son till Ananja, utmed sitt eget hus. 24 Efter honom arbetade Binnuj, Henadads son, på ett annat stycke från Asarjas hus ända fram till Vinkeln och vidare fram till Hörnet. 25 (C) Palal, Usajs son, arbetade mitt emot Vinkeln och det torn som skjuter ut från det övre palatset vid fängelsegården.
Efter honom arbetade Pedaja, Paroshs son. 26 Tempeltjänarna som bodde på Ofel[d] arbetade ända fram till platsen mitt emot Vattenporten mot öster och det utskjutande tornet.
Övriga byggare
27 Efter Pedaja arbetade folket från Tekoa på en annan sträcka, från platsen mitt emot det stora utskjutande tornet fram till Ofelmuren.
28 (D) Ovanför Hästporten arbetade var och en av prästerna mitt emot sitt eget hus. 29 Efter dem arbetade Sadok, Immers son, mitt emot sitt eget hus. Bredvid honom arbetade Shemaja, Shekanjas son, som hade vakten vid Östra porten. 30 Efter honom arbetade Hananja, Shelemjas son, och Hanun, Salafs sjätte son, på en annan sträcka. Och efter dem arbetade Meshullam, Berekjas son, mitt emot sin tempelkammare. 31 Efter honom arbetade Malkia, en av guldsmederna, ända fram till tempeltjänarnas och köpmännens hus, mitt emot Mönstringsporten och vidare fram till Övre Hörnsalen. 32 Och mellan Övre Hörnsalen och Fårporten arbetade guldsmederna och köpmännen på att sätta muren i stånd.

Rebuilding the gates and walls
3 Then Eliashib the high priest set to work with his fellow priests and built[a] the Sheep Gate. They dedicated it and set up its doors, then dedicated it as far as the Tower of the Hundred and as far as the Tower of Hananel.
2 The people of Jericho built next to them, and Zaccur, Imri’s son, built next to them. 3 The children of Hassenaah built the Fish Gate; they laid its beams and set up its doors, bolts, and bars. 4 Next to them Meremoth, Uriah’s son and Hakkoz’s grandson, made repairs. Meshullam, Berechiah’s son and Meshezabel’s grandson, made repairs next to them, and Zadok, Baana’s son, made repairs next to them. 5 Next to them the people from Tekoa made repairs, but their officials wouldn’t help with the work[b] of their supervisors.[c]
6 Joiada, Paseah’s son, and Meshullam, Besodeiah’s son, repaired the Mishneh Gate;[d] they laid its beams and set up its doors, bolts, and bars. 7 Next to them repairs were made by Melatiah the Gibeonite, Jadon the Meronothite, and[e] the people of Gibeon and of Mizpah, who were ruled by the governor of the province Beyond the River.
8 Uzziel, Harhaiah’s son, one of the goldsmiths, made repairs next to them; and Hananiah, one of the perfumers, made repairs next to him. They restored Jerusalem as far as the Broad Wall. 9 Next to them Rephaiah, Hur’s son, ruler of half the district of Jerusalem, made repairs. 10 Next to them Jedaiah, Harumaph’s son, made repairs opposite his house, and Hattush, Hashabneiah’s son, made repairs next to him.
11 Malchijah, Harim’s son, and Hasshub, Pahath-moab’s son, repaired another section and the Tower of the Ovens. 12 Next to them Shallum, Hallohesh’s son, ruler of half the district of Jerusalem, made repairs, along with his daughters.
13 Hanun and the people of Zanoah repaired the Valley Gate; they built it and set up its doors, bolts, and bars. They also repaired fifteen hundred feet of the wall, as far as the Dung Gate.
14 Malchiah, Rechab’s son, ruler of the district of Beth-haccherem, repaired the Dung Gate. He rebuilt it and set up its doors, bolts, and bars.
15 And Shallum, Col-hozeh’s son, ruler of the Mizpah district, repaired the Spring Gate. He rebuilt and covered it, and set up its doors, bolts, and bars. He also built the wall of the Pool of Shelah of the King’s Garden, as far as the stairs that go down from David’s City.
16 After him, Nehemiah, Azbuk’s son, ruler of half the Beth-zur district, repaired from the point opposite David’s tombs as far as the artificial pool and the Warriors’ House. 17 After him, the Levites made repairs: Rehum, Bani’s son, and next to him Hashabiah, ruler of half the district of Keilah, made repairs for his district. 18 After him, their relatives made repairs: Binnui,[f] Henadad’s son, ruler of half the district of Keilah.
19 Next to him, Ezer, Jeshua’s son, ruler of Mizpah, repaired another section opposite the ascent to the armory at the Angle. 20 After him, Baruch, Zabbai’s son, thoroughly repaired another section from the Angle to the door of the house of the high priest Eliashib. 21 After him, Meremoth, Uriah’s son and Hakkoz’s grandson, repaired another section from the door to the back of Eliashib’s house.
22 After him, the priests from the surrounding area made repairs. 23 After them, Benjamin and Hasshub made repairs opposite their house. After them, Azariah, Maaseiah’s son and Ananiah’s grandson, repaired beside his house. 24 After him, Binnui, Henadad’s son, repaired another section from the house of Azariah to the Angle and to the corner. 25 Palal, Uzai’s son, repaired[g] from the point opposite the Angle and the tower projecting from the upper house of the king at the court of the guard. After him, Pedaiah, Parosh’s son, 26 and the temple servants living on Ophel made repairs[h] up to the point opposite the Water Gate to the east and the projecting tower. 27 After them, the people of Tekoa repaired another section opposite the great projecting tower as far as the wall of Ophel. 28 From the Horse Gate, the priests made repairs, each one opposite his own house.
29 After them, Zadok, Immer’s son, made repairs opposite his own house. After him, Shemaiah, Shecaniah’s son, the keeper of the East Gate, made repairs. 30 After him, Hananiah, Shelemiah’s son, and Hanun, Zalaph’s sixth son, repaired another section. After them, Meshullam, Berechiah’s son, made repairs opposite his own room.
31 After him, Malchiah, one of the goldsmiths, made repairs as far as the house of the temple servants and the merchants, opposite the Parade Gate,[i] and as far as the upper room at the corner. 32 And between the upper room of the corner and the Sheep Gate, the goldsmiths and the merchants made repairs.

Builders of the Wall
3 Eliashib(A) the high priest and his fellow priests went to work and rebuilt(B) the Sheep Gate.(C) They dedicated it and set its doors in place, building as far as the Tower of the Hundred, which they dedicated, and as far as the Tower of Hananel.(D) 2 The men of Jericho(E) built the adjoining section, and Zakkur son of Imri built next to them.
3 The Fish Gate(F) was rebuilt by the sons of Hassenaah. They laid its beams and put its doors and bolts and bars in place. 4 Meremoth(G) son of Uriah, the son of Hakkoz, repaired the next section. Next to him Meshullam son of Berekiah, the son of Meshezabel, made repairs, and next to him Zadok son of Baana also made repairs. 5 The next section was repaired by the men of Tekoa,(H) but their nobles would not put their shoulders to the work under their supervisors.[a]
6 The Jeshanah[b] Gate(I) was repaired by Joiada son of Paseah and Meshullam son of Besodeiah. They laid its beams and put its doors with their bolts and bars in place. 7 Next to them, repairs were made by men from Gibeon(J) and Mizpah—Melatiah of Gibeon and Jadon of Meronoth—places under the authority of the governor of Trans-Euphrates. 8 Uzziel son of Harhaiah, one of the goldsmiths, repaired the next section; and Hananiah, one of the perfume-makers, made repairs next to that. They restored Jerusalem as far as the Broad Wall.(K) 9 Rephaiah son of Hur, ruler of a half-district of Jerusalem, repaired the next section. 10 Adjoining this, Jedaiah son of Harumaph made repairs opposite his house, and Hattush son of Hashabneiah made repairs next to him. 11 Malkijah son of Harim and Hasshub son of Pahath-Moab repaired another section and the Tower of the Ovens.(L) 12 Shallum son of Hallohesh, ruler of a half-district of Jerusalem, repaired the next section with the help of his daughters.
13 The Valley Gate(M) was repaired by Hanun and the residents of Zanoah.(N) They rebuilt it and put its doors with their bolts and bars in place. They also repaired a thousand cubits[c] of the wall as far as the Dung Gate.(O)
14 The Dung Gate was repaired by Malkijah son of Rekab, ruler of the district of Beth Hakkerem.(P) He rebuilt it and put its doors with their bolts and bars in place.
15 The Fountain Gate was repaired by Shallun son of Kol-Hozeh, ruler of the district of Mizpah. He rebuilt it, roofing it over and putting its doors and bolts and bars in place. He also repaired the wall of the Pool of Siloam,[d](Q) by the King’s Garden, as far as the steps going down from the City of David. 16 Beyond him, Nehemiah son of Azbuk, ruler of a half-district of Beth Zur,(R) made repairs up to a point opposite the tombs[e](S) of David, as far as the artificial pool and the House of the Heroes.
17 Next to him, the repairs were made by the Levites under Rehum son of Bani. Beside him, Hashabiah, ruler of half the district of Keilah,(T) carried out repairs for his district. 18 Next to him, the repairs were made by their fellow Levites under Binnui[f] son of Henadad, ruler of the other half-district of Keilah. 19 Next to him, Ezer son of Jeshua, ruler of Mizpah, repaired another section, from a point facing the ascent to the armory as far as the angle of the wall. 20 Next to him, Baruch son of Zabbai zealously repaired another section, from the angle to the entrance of the house of Eliashib the high priest. 21 Next to him, Meremoth(U) son of Uriah, the son of Hakkoz, repaired another section, from the entrance of Eliashib’s house to the end of it.
22 The repairs next to him were made by the priests from the surrounding region. 23 Beyond them, Benjamin and Hasshub made repairs in front of their house; and next to them, Azariah son of Maaseiah, the son of Ananiah, made repairs beside his house. 24 Next to him, Binnui(V) son of Henadad repaired another section, from Azariah’s house to the angle and the corner, 25 and Palal son of Uzai worked opposite the angle and the tower projecting from the upper palace near the court of the guard.(W) Next to him, Pedaiah son of Parosh(X) 26 and the temple servants(Y) living on the hill of Ophel(Z) made repairs up to a point opposite the Water Gate(AA) toward the east and the projecting tower. 27 Next to them, the men of Tekoa(AB) repaired another section, from the great projecting tower(AC) to the wall of Ophel.
28 Above the Horse Gate,(AD) the priests made repairs, each in front of his own house. 29 Next to them, Zadok son of Immer made repairs opposite his house. Next to him, Shemaiah son of Shekaniah, the guard at the East Gate, made repairs. 30 Next to him, Hananiah son of Shelemiah, and Hanun, the sixth son of Zalaph, repaired another section. Next to them, Meshullam son of Berekiah made repairs opposite his living quarters. 31 Next to him, Malkijah, one of the goldsmiths, made repairs as far as the house of the temple servants and the merchants, opposite the Inspection Gate, and as far as the room above the corner; 32 and between the room above the corner and the Sheep Gate(AE) the goldsmiths and merchants made repairs.
