9 如今我欢喜，不是因你们忧愁，是因你们从忧愁中生出懊悔来。你们依着神的意思忧愁，凡事就不至于因我们受亏损了。 10 因为依着神的意思忧愁，就生出没有后悔的懊悔来，以致得救；但世俗的忧愁是叫人死。 11 你看，你们依着神的意思忧愁，从此就生出何等的殷勤、自诉、自恨、恐惧、想念、热心、责罚[a]。在这一切事上，你们都表明自己是洁净的。

9 现在我很欢喜，当然不是因为你们忧伤而欢喜，而是看见你们因忧伤而悔改了。因为你们这样忧伤合乎上帝的心意，使你们不致因我们而受到任何损失。 10 合乎上帝心意的忧伤会带来悔改，使人得到救恩，永不后悔，但世俗的忧伤只会带来死亡。
11 你们看，合乎上帝心意的忧伤使你们产生了何等的迫切感啊！你们热切地辩明自己的立场，对罪愤慨，恐惧战抖，期盼与我相见，疾恶如仇，惩处罪恶。你们在各方面已显明自己在那件事上是清白的。

9 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.
10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
11 For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.
