不凭血气争战
10 我保罗，就是与你们见面的时候是谦卑的，不在你们那里的时候向你们是勇敢的，如今亲自借着基督的温柔、和平劝你们。 2 有人以为我是凭着血气行事，我也以为必须用勇敢待这等人，求你们不要叫我在你们那里的时候，有这样的勇敢。 3 因为我们虽然在血气中行事，却不凭着血气争战。 4 我们争战的兵器本不是属血气的，乃是在神面前有能力，可以攻破坚固的营垒， 5 将各样的计谋、各样拦阻人认识神的那些自高之事，一概攻破了，又将人所有的心意夺回，使它都顺服基督； 6 并且我已经预备好了，等你们十分顺服的时候，要责罚那一切不顺服的人。 7 你们是看眼前的吗？倘若有人自信是属基督的，他要再想想，他如何属基督，我们也是如何属基督的。 8 主赐给我们权柄，是要造就你们，并不是要败坏你们，我就是为这权柄稍微夸口，也不至于惭愧。 9 我说这话，免得你们以为我写信是要威吓你们。 10 因为有人说：“他的信又沉重又厉害，及至见面，却是气貌不扬、言语粗俗的。” 11 这等人当想，我们不在那里的时候信上的言语如何，见面的时候，行事也必如何。 12 因为我们不敢将自己和那自荐的人同列相比。他们用自己度量自己，用自己比较自己，乃是不通达的。 13 我们不愿意分外夸口，只要照神所量给我们的界限够到你们那里。 14 我们并非过了自己的界限，好像够不到你们那里；因为我们早到你们那里，传了基督的福音。
当指着主夸口
15 我们不仗着别人所劳碌的分外夸口，但指望你们信心增长的时候，所量给我们的界限就可以因着你们更加开展， 16 得以将福音传到你们以外的地方，并不是在别人界限之内、借着他现成的事夸口。 17 但夸口的，当指着主夸口。 18 因为蒙悦纳的不是自己称许的，乃是主所称许的。

保羅論自己的職分
10 你們以為我在你們中間的時候很溫和，不在你們中間的時候卻很嚴厲。如今，我保羅以基督的謙卑和溫柔親自勸你們： 2 我去的時候，請不要逼我這樣嚴厲地對待你們，我的嚴厲是用來對付那些說我憑血氣行事的人。 3 因為我雖然活在血肉之軀裡，但在屬靈的爭戰上，卻不是憑血氣之勇。 4 我們爭戰的兵器不是屬血氣的，乃是從上帝而來的能力，可以摧毀堅固的營壘， 5 擊破一切的謬論和阻礙人們認識上帝的驕傲言論，奪回被擄去的心思意念，使其順服基督。 6 等你們完全順服主後，我們就要懲罰那些叛逆的人。
7 你們只會看事情的表面。如果有人相信自己屬於基督，他就應該再想一想，我們跟他一樣也是屬於基督的。 8 因為主賜給我們權柄是為了造就你們，不是為了毀壞你們，就算我為這權柄稍微誇口，也不會感到羞愧。 9 我不想你們認為我寫信是要威嚇你們。 10 因為有人說：「他信中的話有分量，很嚴厲，他本人卻軟弱無能，言語粗俗。」 11 說這話的人要留心：我們不在你們那裡的時候，在信上怎麼說，與你們見面時也會怎麼做。
12 我們不敢和那些自我推薦的人相提並論！他們以自己的尺度衡量自己，自我比較，實在不明智！ 13 但我們並非漫無邊際地誇口，而是在上帝為我們定下的範圍之內誇口，你們也包括在這範圍之內。 14 其實把你們包括在我們誇口的範圍之內一點都不過分，因為我們曾把基督的福音傳到你們那裡。 15 我們沒有超出範圍拿別人辛勞的成果誇口，只盼望隨著你們信心的增長，我們的範圍也得到極大的擴展， 16 使我們可以把福音傳到你們以外的地方，而不是在別人的工作範圍內拿別人的成就誇口。 17 「要誇耀，就當誇耀主的作為。」 18 因為，蒙悅納的是主所稱許的人，而不是自我稱許的人。

10 Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
2 But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
7 Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? if any man trust to himself that he is Christ's, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ's, even so are we Christ's.
8 For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:
9 That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters.
10 For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.
11 Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present.
12 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
13 But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you.
14 For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ:
15 Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men's labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,
16 To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man's line of things made ready to our hand.
17 But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
18 For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.
