9 我不是自由的吗？我不是使徒吗？我不是见过我们的主耶稣吗？你们不是我在主里面所做之工吗？ 2 假若在别人我不是使徒，在你们我总是使徒，因为你们在主里正是我做使徒的印证。 3 我对那盘问我的人就是这样分诉。 4 难道我们没有权柄靠福音吃喝吗？ 5 难道我们没有权柄娶信主的姐妹为妻，带着一同往来，仿佛其余的使徒和主的弟兄并矶法一样吗？ 6 独有我与巴拿巴没有权柄不做工吗？ 7 有谁当兵自备粮饷呢？有谁栽葡萄园不吃园里的果子呢？有谁牧养牛羊不吃牛羊的奶呢？ 8 我说这话，岂是照人的意见？律法不也是这样说吗？ 9 就如摩西的律法记着说：“牛在场上踹谷的时候，不可笼住它的嘴。”难道神所挂念的是牛吗？ 10 不全是为我们说的吗？分明是为我们说的。因为耕种的当存着指望去耕种，打场的也当存得粮的指望去打场。 11 我们若把属灵的种子撒在你们中间，就是从你们收割奉养肉身之物，这还算大事吗？ 12 若别人在你们身上有这权柄，何况我们呢？然而，我们没有用过这权柄，倒凡事忍受，免得基督的福音被阻隔。

传福音的当靠福音养生

13 你们岂不知为圣事劳碌的，就吃殿中的物吗？伺候祭坛的，就分领坛上的物吗？ 14 主也是这样命定，叫传福音的靠着福音养生。 15 但这权柄我全没有用过。我写这话，并非要你们这样待我，因为我宁可死，也不叫人使我所夸的落了空。 16 我传福音原没有可夸的，因为我是不得已的；若不传福音，我便有祸了。 17 我若甘心做这事，就有赏赐；若不甘心，责任却已经托付我了。 18 既是这样，我的赏赐是什么呢？就是我传福音的时候，叫人不花钱得福音，免得用尽我传福音的权柄。 19 我虽是自由的，无人辖管，然而我甘心做了众人的仆人，为要多得人。 20 向犹太人，我就做犹太人，为要得犹太人。向律法以下的人，我虽不在律法以下，还是做律法以下的人，为要得律法以下的人。 21 向没有律法的人，我就做没有律法的人，为要得没有律法的人；其实我在神面前不是没有律法，在基督面前正在律法之下。 22 向软弱的人，我就做软弱的人，为要得软弱的人。向什么样的人，我就做什么样的人，无论如何总要救些人。 23 凡我所行的，都是为福音的缘故，为要与人同得这福音的好处。

当为不坏的冠冕赛跑

24 岂不知在场上赛跑的都跑，但得奖赏的只有一人？你们也当这样跑，好叫你们得着奖赏。 25 凡较力争胜的，诸事都有节制。他们不过是要得能坏的冠冕，我们却是要得不能坏的冠冕。 26 所以，我奔跑不像无定向的，我斗拳不像打空气的。 27 我是攻克己身，叫身服我，恐怕我传福音给别人，自己反被弃绝了。

Paul’s Right to Be Paid for His Work as an Apostle

9 Don’t you agree that I’m a free man? Don’t you agree that I’m an apostle? Haven’t I seen Yeshua our Lord? Aren’t you the result of my work for the Lord? 2 If I’m not an apostle to other people, at least I’m an apostle to you. You are the seal which proves that I am the Lord’s apostle. 3 This is how I defend myself to those who cross-examine me. 4 Don’t we have the right to eat and drink? 5 Don’t we have the right to take our wives along with us like the other apostles, the Lord’s brothers, and Cephas[a] do? 6 Or is it only Barnabas and I who don’t have any rights, except to find work to support ourselves?

7 Does a soldier ever serve in the army at his own expense? Does anyone plant a vineyard and not eat the grapes? Does anyone take care of a flock and not drink milk from the sheep? 8 Am I merely stating some human rule? Don’t Moses’ Teachings say the same thing? 9 Moses’ Teachings say, “Never muzzle an ox when it is threshing[b] grain.” God’s concern isn’t for oxen. 10 Isn’t he speaking entirely for our benefit? This was written for our benefit so that the person who plows or threshes should expect to receive a share of the crop. 11 If we have planted the spiritual seed that has been of benefit to you, is it too much if we receive part of the harvest from your earthly goods? 12 If others have the right to expect this from you, don’t we deserve even more? But we haven’t used our rights. Instead, we would put up with anything in order not to hinder the Good News of Christ in any way.

13 Don’t you realize that those who work at the temple get their food from the temple? Don’t those who help at the altar get a share of what is on the altar? 14 In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who spread the Good News should earn their living from the Good News.

15 I haven’t used any of these rights, and I haven’t written this in order to use them now. I would rather die than have anyone turn my bragging into meaningless words. 16 If I spread the Good News, I have nothing to brag about because I have an obligation to do this. How horrible it will be for me if I don’t spread the Good News! 17 If I spread the Good News willingly, I’ll have a reward. But if I spread the Good News unwillingly, I’m only doing what I’ve been entrusted to do.

18 So what is my reward? It is to spread the Good News free of charge. In that way I won’t use the rights that belong to those who spread the Good News.

Paul’s Work as an Apostle

19 Although I’m free from all people, I have made myself a slave for all people to win more of them. 20 I became Jewish for Jewish people. I became subject to the laws in Moses’ Teachings for those who are subject to those laws. I did this to win them even though I’m not subject to Moses’ Teachings. 21 I became like a person who does not have Moses’ Teachings for those who don’t have those teachings. I did this to win them even though I have God’s teachings. I’m really subject to Christ’s teachings. 22 I became like a person weak in faith to win those who are weak in faith. I have become everything to everyone in order to save at least some of them. 23 I do all this for the sake of the Good News in order to share what it offers.

24 Don’t you realize that everyone who runs in a race runs to win, but only one runner gets the prize? Run like them, so that you can win. 25 Everyone who enters an athletic contest goes into strict training. They do it to win a temporary crown, but we do it to win one that will be permanent. 26 So I run—but not without a clear goal ahead of me. So I box—but not as if I were just shadow boxing. 27 Rather, I toughen my body with punches and make it my slave so that I will not be disqualified after I have spread the Good News to others.

Paul’s Rights as an Apostle

9 Am I not free?(A) Am I not an apostle?(B) Have I not seen Jesus our Lord?(C) Are you not the result of my work in the Lord?(D) 2 Even though I may not be an apostle to others, surely I am to you! For you are the seal(E) of my apostleship in the Lord.

3 This is my defense to those who sit in judgment on me. 4 Don’t we have the right to food and drink?(F) 5 Don’t we have the right to take a believing wife(G) along with us, as do the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers(H) and Cephas[a]?(I) 6 Or is it only I and Barnabas(J) who lack the right to not work for a living?

7 Who serves as a soldier(K) at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard(L) and does not eat its grapes? Who tends a flock and does not drink the milk? 8 Do I say this merely on human authority? Doesn’t the Law say the same thing? 9 For it is written in the Law of Moses: “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain.”[b](M) Is it about oxen that God is concerned?(N) 10 Surely he says this for us, doesn’t he? Yes, this was written for us,(O) because whoever plows and threshes should be able to do so in the hope of sharing in the harvest.(P) 11 If we have sown spiritual seed among you, is it too much if we reap a material harvest from you?(Q) 12 If others have this right of support from you, shouldn’t we have it all the more?

But we did not use this right.(R) On the contrary, we put up with anything rather than hinder(S) the gospel of Christ.

13 Don’t you know that those who serve in the temple get their food from the temple, and that those who serve at the altar share in what is offered on the altar?(T) 14 In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel.(U)

15 But I have not used any of these rights.(V) And I am not writing this in the hope that you will do such things for me, for I would rather die than allow anyone to deprive me of this boast.(W) 16 For when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, since I am compelled to preach.(X) Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! 17 If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward;(Y) if not voluntarily, I am simply discharging the trust committed to me.(Z) 18 What then is my reward? Just this: that in preaching the gospel I may offer it free of charge,(AA) and so not make full use of my rights(AB) as a preacher of the gospel.

Paul’s Use of His Freedom

19 Though I am free(AC) and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone,(AD) to win as many as possible.(AE) 20 To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews.(AF) To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law),(AG) so as to win those under the law. 21 To those not having the law I became like one not having the law(AH) (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law),(AI) so as to win those not having the law. 22 To the weak I became weak, to win the weak.(AJ) I have become all things to all people(AK) so that by all possible means I might save some.(AL) 23 I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

The Need for Self-Discipline

24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize?(AM) Run(AN) in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown(AO) that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.(AP) 26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly;(AQ) I do not fight like a boxer beating the air.(AR) 27 No, I strike a blow to my body(AS) and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.(AT)

Non siete voi l’opera mia nel Signore? 2 Se per altri non sono apostolo, lo sono almeno per voi; perché il sigillo del mio apostolato siete voi, nel Signore. 3 Questa è la mia difesa di fronte a quelli che mi sottopongono a inchiesta. 4 Non abbiamo forse il diritto di mangiare e di bere? 5 Non abbiamo il diritto di condurre con noi una moglie, sorella in fede, come fanno anche gli altri apostoli e i fratelli del Signore e Cefa? 6 O siamo soltanto io e Barnaba a non avere il diritto di non lavorare? 7 Chi mai fa il soldato a proprie spese? Chi pianta una vigna e non ne mangia il frutto? O chi pascola un gregge e non si ciba del latte del gregge? 8 Dico forse queste cose da un punto di vista umano? Non le dice anche la legge? 9 Difatti, nella legge di Mosè è scritto: «Non mettere la museruola al bue che trebbia il grano»[a]. Forse che Dio si dà pensiero dei buoi? 10 O non dice così proprio per noi? Certo, per noi fu scritto così; perché chi ara deve arare con speranza e chi trebbia il grano deve trebbiarlo con la speranza di averne la sua parte[b]. 11 Se abbiamo seminato per voi i beni spirituali, è forse gran cosa se mietiamo i vostri beni materiali? 12 Se altri hanno questo diritto su di voi, non lo abbiamo noi molto di più? Ma non abbiamo fatto uso di questo diritto; anzi, sopportiamo ogni cosa per non creare alcun ostacolo al vangelo di Cristo.

13 Non sapete che quelli che fanno il servizio sacro mangiano ciò che è offerto nel tempio? E che coloro che attendono all’altare hanno parte all’altare? 14 Similmente, il Signore ha ordinato che coloro che annunciano il vangelo vivano del vangelo.

15 (B)Io però non ho fatto alcun uso di questi diritti, e non ho scritto questo perché si faccia così a mio riguardo; poiché preferirei morire, anziché vedere qualcuno rendere vano il mio vanto. 16 Perché se evangelizzo, non debbo vantarmi, poiché necessità me n’è imposta; e guai a me se non evangelizzo! 17 Se lo faccio volenterosamente ne ho ricompensa; ma se non lo faccio volenterosamente è sempre un’amministrazione che mi è affidata. 18 Qual è dunque la mia ricompensa? Questa: che, annunciando il vangelo, io offra il vangelo [di Cristo] gratuitamente, senza valermi del diritto che il vangelo mi dà.

19 Poiché, pur essendo libero da tutti, mi sono fatto servo di tutti, per guadagnarne il maggior numero; 20 con i Giudei mi sono fatto giudeo, per guadagnare i Giudei; con quelli che sono sotto la legge mi sono fatto come uno che è sotto la legge (benché io stesso non sia sottoposto alla legge)[c], per guadagnare quelli che sono sotto la legge; 21 con quelli che sono senza legge mi sono fatto come se fossi senza legge (pur non essendo senza la legge di Dio, ma essendo sotto la legge di Cristo), per guadagnare quelli che sono senza legge. 22 Con i deboli mi sono fatto debole, per guadagnare i deboli; mi sono fatto ogni cosa a tutti, per salvarne ad ogni modo alcuni. 23 E faccio tutto[d] per il vangelo, al fine di esserne partecipe insieme ad altri.

Norme che regolano la corsa cristiana

24 (C)Non sapete che coloro i quali corrono nello stadio[e] corrono tutti, ma uno solo ottiene il premio? Correte in modo da riportarlo. 25 Chiunque fa l’atleta è temperato in ogni cosa; e quelli lo fanno per ricevere una corona corruttibile; ma noi, per una incorruttibile. 26 Io quindi corro così; non in modo incerto; lotto al pugilato, ma non come chi batte l’aria; 27 anzi, tratto duramente il mio corpo e lo riduco in schiavitù, perché non avvenga che, dopo aver predicato agli altri, io stesso sia squalificato[f].
