6 那时，所罗门说：
“耶和华曾说要住在幽暗之处。
2 我为你建了一座雄伟的殿宇，
作为你永远居住的地方。”
3 王转过脸来为以色列全会众祝福，以色列全会众都站立。 4 所罗门说：“耶和华—以色列的 神是应当称颂的！因他亲口向我父大卫应许的，也亲手成就了；他曾说： 5 ‘自从那日我领我百姓出埃及地以来，我未曾在以色列各支派中选择一城，在那里为我的名建造殿宇，也未曾拣选一人作我百姓以色列的君王。 6 但我选择耶路撒冷，使我的名留在那里，又拣选大卫治理我的百姓以色列。’ 7 我父大卫的心意是要为耶和华—以色列 神的名建殿。 8 耶和华却对我父大卫说：‘你有心为我的名建殿，这心意是好的； 9 但你不可建殿，惟有你亲生的儿子才可为我的名建殿。’ 10 现在耶和华实现了他所应许的话，使我接续我父大卫坐以色列的王位，正如耶和华所说的，我也为耶和华—以色列 神的名建造了这殿。 11 我将约柜安置在那里，柜内有耶和华的约，就是他与以色列人所立的约。”
所罗门的祷告(B)
12 所罗门当着以色列全会众，站在耶和华的坛前，举起手来。 13 所罗门曾造一个铜台，长五肘，宽五肘，高三肘，放在院中。他站在台上，当着以色列全会众双膝跪下，向天举手， 14 说：“耶和华—以色列的 神啊，天上地下没有神明可与你相比！你向那些尽心行在你面前的仆人守约施慈爱， 15 这约是你向你仆人大卫守的，是你应许他的。你亲口应许，亲手成就，正如今日一样。 16 耶和华—以色列的 神啊，你向你仆人我父大卫应许说：‘你的子孙若谨慎自己的行为，遵行我的律法，像你在我面前所行的，就不断有人在我面前坐以色列的王位。’现在求你信守这话。 17 耶和华—以色列的 神啊，现在求你成就向你仆人大卫所应许的话。
18 “ 神果真与世人同住在地上吗？看哪，天和天上的天尚且不足容纳你，何况我所建的这殿呢？ 19 惟求耶和华—我的 神垂顾仆人的祷告祈求，俯听仆人在你面前的祈祷呼求。 20 愿你的眼目昼夜看顾这殿，就是你应许立为你名的居所；求你垂听祷告，你仆人向此处的祷告。 21 你仆人和你百姓以色列向此处祈祷的时候，求你从天上你的居所垂听，垂听而赦免。
22 “人若得罪邻舍，有人强迫他，要他起誓，他来到这殿，在你的坛前起誓， 23 求你从天上垂听、处理，向你的仆人施行审判，定恶人有罪，照他所行的报应在他头上；定义人为义，照他的义赏赐他。
24 “你的百姓以色列若得罪你，败在仇敌面前，却又归向你，宣认你的名，在这殿里向你祈求祷告， 25 求你从天上垂听，赦免你百姓以色列的罪，使他们归回你赐给他们和他们列祖之地。
26 “你的百姓若得罪了你，你使天闭塞不下雨；他们若向此处祷告，宣认你的名，因你的惩罚而离开他们的罪， 27 求你在天上垂听，赦免你仆人你百姓以色列的罪，将当行的善道教导他们，并降雨在你的地，就是你赐给你百姓为业之地。
28 “这地若有饥荒、瘟疫、焚风[a]、霉烂、蝗虫、蚂蚱，或有仇敌围困这地的城门，无论遭遇什么灾祸疾病， 29 你的百姓以色列，或众人或一人，自觉灾祸困苦，向这殿举手，无论祈求什么，祷告什么， 30 求你从天上你的居所垂听赦免。因为你知道人心，惟有你知道世人的心，求你照各人所行的一切待他们， 31 使他们在你赐给我们列祖的土地上一生一世敬畏你，遵行你的道。
32 “论到不属你百姓以色列的外邦人，若为你的大名和大能的手，以及伸出来的膀臂，从远方而来，来向这殿祷告， 33 求你从天上你的居所垂听，照着外邦人向你所求的一切而行，使地上万民都认识你的名，敬畏你，像你的百姓以色列一样，又使他们知道我所建造的是称为你名下的殿。
34 “你的百姓若奉你的派遣出去，无论往何处与仇敌争战，他们若向你所选择的这城和我为你名所建造的殿祷告， 35 求你从天上垂听他们的祷告祈求，为他们伸张正义。
36 “你的百姓若得罪你，因为没有人不犯罪，你向他们发怒，把他们交在仇敌面前，掳他们的人把他们带到或远或近之地； 37 他们若在被掳之地那里回心转意，在被掳之地悔改，向你恳求说：‘我们有罪了，我们悖逆了，我们作恶了’； 38 他们若在被掳之地尽心尽性归向你，又向自己的地，就是你赐给他们列祖的地和你所选择的城，以及我为你名所建造的这殿祷告， 39 求你从天上你的居所垂听他们的祷告祈求，为他们伸张正义，赦免你的百姓向你犯的罪。 40 我的 神啊，现在求你睁眼看，侧耳听在此处所献的祷告。
41 “耶和华 神啊，现在求你兴起，
与你有能力的约柜同入安歇之所。
耶和华 神啊，愿你的祭司披上救恩，
愿你的圣民蒙福欢乐。
42 耶和华 神啊，求你不要厌弃你的受膏者，
要记得向你仆人大卫所施的慈爱。”

所羅門的禱告
12 所羅門當著以色列會眾的面，站在耶和華的壇前，向天伸出雙手禱告。 13 他曾造一個長二點二五米，寬二點二五米，高一點三五米的銅臺，放在院子中間。他站在臺上，當著以色列會眾的面跪下，向天伸出雙手， 14 禱告說：「以色列的上帝耶和華啊，天上地下沒有神明可以與你相比！你向盡心遵行你旨意的僕人守約、施慈愛。 15 你持守給你僕人——我父大衛的應許，你曾親口應許，你今天親手成就了。 16 以色列的上帝耶和華啊，你曾對你僕人——我父大衛說，『若你的子孫像你一樣謹慎行事，遵行我的律法，你的王朝就不會中斷。』求你信守這應許。 17 以色列的上帝耶和華啊，求你實現你給你僕人大衛的應許。

26 「當你的子民得罪你，你懲罰他們，使天不降雨時，如果他們向著這地方禱告，承認你的名，並離開罪惡， 27 求你在天上垂聽，赦免你僕人——你以色列子民的罪，教導他們走正道，降下甘霖滋潤你賜給你子民作產業的土地。
28 「如果國中有饑荒、瘟疫、旱災、黴病、蝗災、蟲災，或是城邑被敵人圍困，無論遭遇什麼災禍疾病， 29 只要你的以色列子民，或個人或全體，自知心中痛苦並向著這殿伸手禱告，無論祈求什麼， 30 求你從天上的居所垂聽，赦免他們。唯獨你能洞察人心，你必按各人的行為施行賞罰， 31 使你的子民在你賜給我們祖先的土地上終生敬畏你，遵行你的道。
32 「如果有遠方的外族人聽說你的大能大力，慕名而來，向著這殿禱告， 33 求你從天上的居所垂聽，應允他們的祈求，好叫天下萬民都像你的以色列子民一樣認識你的名、敬畏你，並知道我建造的這殿屬於你的名下。
34 「你的子民奉你的命令上陣與敵人作戰，無論他們在哪裡，如果他們向著你選擇的這城和我為你建造的這殿禱告， 35 求你從天上垂聽，使他們得勝。
36 「世上沒有不犯罪的人，如果你的子民得罪你，以致你向他們發怒，讓敵人把他們擄走，不論遠近， 37 若他們在那裡回心轉意，向你懇求，承認自己犯罪作惡了； 38 若他們全心全意地歸向你，朝著你賜給他們祖先的這片土地、你選擇的這城和我為你建的這殿向你禱告， 39 求你從你天上的居所垂聽他們的祈求，為他們伸張正義，赦免得罪你的子民。
40 「我的上帝啊，
求你睜眼看、側耳聽在這殿裡獻上的禱告。

6 Then said Solomon, The Lord hath said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.
2 But I have built an house of habitation for thee, and a place for thy dwelling for ever.
3 And the king turned his face, and blessed the whole congregation of Israel: and all the congregation of Israel stood.
4 And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who hath with his hands fulfilled that which he spake with his mouth to my father David, saying,
5 Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel:
6 But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.
7 Now it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the Lord God of Israel.
8 But the Lord said to David my father, Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to build an house for my name, thou didst well in that it was in thine heart:
9 Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house; but thy son which shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.
10 The Lord therefore hath performed his word that he hath spoken: for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and am set on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised, and have built the house for the name of the Lord God of Israel.
11 And in it have I put the ark, wherein is the covenant of the Lord, that he made with the children of Israel.
12 And he stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands:
13 For Solomon had made a brasen scaffold of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court: and upon it he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven.
14 And said, O Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts:
15 Thou which hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him; and spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.
16 Now therefore, O Lord God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take heed to their way to walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me.
17 Now then, O Lord God of Israel, let thy word be verified, which thou hast spoken unto thy servant David.
18 But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!
19 Have respect therefore to the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O Lord my God, to hearken unto the cry and the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee:
20 That thine eyes may be open upon this house day and night, upon the place whereof thou hast said that thou wouldest put thy name there; to hearken unto the prayer which thy servant prayeth toward this place.
21 Hearken therefore unto the supplications of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, which they shall make toward this place: hear thou from thy dwelling place, even from heaven; and when thou hearest, forgive.
22 If a man sin against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to make him swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house;
23 Then hear thou from heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, by requiting the wicked, by recompensing his way upon his own head; and by justifying the righteous, by giving him according to his righteousness.
24 And if thy people Israel be put to the worse before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee; and shall return and confess thy name, and pray and make supplication before thee in this house;
25 Then hear thou from the heavens, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest to them and to their fathers.
26 When the heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; yet if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them;
27 Then hear thou from heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou hast taught them the good way, wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given unto thy people for an inheritance.
28 If there be dearth in the land, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting, or mildew, locusts, or caterpillers; if their enemies besiege them in the cities of their land; whatsoever sore or whatsoever sickness there be:
29 Then what prayer or what supplication soever shall be made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, when every one shall know his own sore and his own grief, and shall spread forth his hands in this house:
30 Then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men:)
31 That they may fear thee, to walk in thy ways, so long as they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.
32 Moreover concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but is come from a far country for thy great name's sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out arm; if they come and pray in this house;
33 Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all people of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.
34 If thy people go out to war against their enemies by the way that thou shalt send them, and they pray unto thee toward this city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name;
35 Then hear thou from the heavens their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.
36 If they sin against thee, (for there is no man which sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them over before their enemies, and they carry them away captives unto a land far off or near;
37 Yet if they bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and turn and pray unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have done amiss, and have dealt wickedly;
38 If they return to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name:
39 Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people which have sinned against thee.
40 Now, my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.
41 Now therefore arise, O Lord God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O Lord God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness.
42 O Lord God, turn not away the face of thine anointed: remember the mercies of David thy servant.

Solomon’s Dedication of the Temple
6 Then Solomon said:(A)
The Lord said he would dwell in total darkness,(B)
2 but I have built an exalted temple for you,
a place for your dwelling for ever.
3 Then the king turned and blessed the entire congregation of Israel while they were standing. 4 He said:
Blessed be the Lord God of Israel!
He spoke directly to my father David,
and he has fulfilled the promise
by his power.
He said,
5 ‘Since the day I brought my people Israel
out of the land of Egypt,(C)
I have not chosen a city to build a temple in
among any of the tribes of Israel,
so that my name would be there,
and I have not chosen a man
to be ruler over my people Israel.
6 But I have chosen Jerusalem
so that my name will be there,(D)
and I have chosen David
to be over my people Israel.’(E)
7 My father David had his heart set
on building a temple for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.(F)
8 However, the Lord said to my father David,
‘Since it was your desire to build a temple for my name,
you have done well to have this desire.
9 Yet, you are not the one to build the temple,
but your son, your own offspring,
will build the temple for my name.’
10 So the Lord has fulfilled what he promised.
I have taken the place of my father David
and I sit on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised.
I have built the temple for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.
11 I have put the ark there,
where the Lord’s covenant is
that he made with the Israelites.(G)
Solomon’s Prayer
12 Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in front of the entire congregation of Israel and spread out his hands. 13 For Solomon had made a bronze platform 2.25 metres[a] long, 2.25 metres wide, and 1.35 metres[b] high and put it in the court. He stood on it,(H) knelt down in front of the entire congregation of Israel, and spread out his hands towards heaven.(I) 14 He said:
Lord God of Israel,
there is no God like you
in heaven or on earth,(J)
who keeps his gracious covenant
with your servants who walk before you
with all their heart.(K)
15 You have kept what you promised
to your servant, my father David.
You spoke directly to him,
and you fulfilled your promise by your power,
as it is today.(L)
16 Therefore, Lord God of Israel,
keep what you promised
to your servant, my father David:
‘You will never fail to have a man
to sit before me on the throne of Israel,(M)
if only your sons take care to walk in my Law
as you have walked before me.’
17 Now, Lord God of Israel, please confirm
what you promised to your servant David.
18 But will God indeed live on earth with humans?
Even heaven, the highest heaven, cannot contain you,(N)
much less this temple I have built.
19 Listen[c] to your servant’s prayer and his petition,
Lord my God,
so that you may hear the cry and the prayer
that your servant prays before you,
20 so that your eyes watch over this temple
day and night,
towards the place where you said
you would put your name;(O)
and so that you may hear the prayer
your servant prays towards this place.
21 Hear the petitions of your servant
and your people Israel,
which they pray towards this place.
May you hear in your dwelling place in heaven.
May you hear and forgive.
22 If a man sins against his neighbour
and is forced to take an oath[d]
and he comes to take an oath
before your altar in this temple,
23 may you hear in heaven and act.
May you judge your servants,
condemning the wicked man by bringing
what he has done on his own head
and providing justice for the righteous
by rewarding him according to his righteousness.
24 If your people Israel are defeated before an enemy,
because they have sinned against you,
and they return to you and praise your name,
and they pray and plead for mercy
before you in this temple,
25 may you hear in heaven
and forgive the sin of your people Israel.
May you restore them to the land
you gave them and their ancestors.
26 When the skies are shut and there is no rain
because they have sinned against you,
and they pray towards this place
and praise your name,
and they turn from their sins
because you are afflicting[e](P) them,
27 may you hear in heaven
and forgive the sin of your servants
and your people Israel,
so that you may teach them the good way
they should walk in.
May you send rain on your land
that you gave your people for an inheritance.
28 When there is famine in the land,
when there is pestilence,
when there is blight or mildew, locust or grasshopper,
when their enemies besiege them
in the land and its cities,[f][g](Q)
when there is any plague or illness,
29 every prayer or petition
that any person or that all your people Israel may have –
they each know their own affliction[h] and suffering –
as they spread out their hands towards this temple,
30 may you hear in heaven, your dwelling place,
and may you forgive and give to everyone[i]
according to all their ways, since you know each heart,
for you alone know the human heart,(R)
31 so that they may fear you
and walk in your ways
all the days they live on the land
you gave our ancestors.
32 Even for the foreigner who is not of your people Israel
but has come from a distant land
because of your great name
and your strong hand and outstretched arm:(S)
when he comes and prays towards this temple,
33 may you hear in heaven in your dwelling place,
and do all the foreigner asks you.
Then all the peoples of the earth will know your name,
to fear you as your people Israel do
and know that this temple I have built
bears your name.(T)
34 When your people go out to fight against their enemies,
wherever you send them,
and they pray to you
in the direction of this city which you have chosen(U)
and the temple that I have built for your name,
35 may you hear their prayer and petition in heaven
and uphold their cause.
36 When they sin against you –
for there is no one who does not sin(V) –
and you are angry with them
and hand them over to the enemy,
and their captors deport them
to a distant or nearby country,
37 and when they come to their senses
in the land where they were deported
and repent and petition you in their captors’ land,
saying, ‘We have sinned and done wrong;
we have been wicked,’
38 and when they return to you with all their mind and all their heart
in the land of their captivity where they were taken captive,
and when they pray in the direction of their land
that you gave their ancestors,
and the city you have chosen,
and towards the temple I have built for your name,
39 may you hear their prayer and petitions in heaven,
your dwelling place,
and uphold their cause.[j]
May you forgive your people
who sinned against you.
40 Now, my God,
please let your eyes be open
and your ears attentive
to the prayer of this place.(W)
41 Now therefore:(X)
Arise, Lord God, come to your resting place,
you and your powerful ark.
May your priests, Lord God, be clothed with salvation,
and may your faithful people rejoice in goodness.
42 Lord God, do not reject your anointed one;[k]
remember your servant David’s acts of faithful love.(Y)
