6 那时，所罗门说：
“耶和华啊，
你曾说你要住在密云中，
2 现在我为你建造了殿宇，
作你永远的居所。”
所罗门为民众祝福
3 王转身为站立在那里的以色列全体会众祝福。 4 他说：“以色列的上帝耶和华当受称颂！祂亲口给我父大卫的应许，祂也亲手成就了！ 5 祂曾说，‘自从我把我的子民带出埃及以来，我并没有在以色列众支派中选出一座城建造殿宇作为我名所在之地，也没有选立一人做我以色列子民的君王。 6 但如今，我拣选了耶路撒冷作为我名所在之地，又拣选了大卫来治理我的以色列子民。’”

所罗门的祷告
12 所罗门当着以色列会众的面，站在耶和华的坛前，向天伸出双手祷告。 13 他曾造一个长二点二五米，宽二点二五米，高一点三五米的铜台，放在院子中间。他站在台上，当着以色列会众的面跪下，向天伸出双手， 14 祷告说：“以色列的上帝耶和华啊，天上地下没有神明可以与你相比！你向尽心遵行你旨意的仆人守约、施慈爱。 15 你持守给你仆人——我父大卫的应许，你曾亲口应许，你今天亲手成就了。 16 以色列的上帝耶和华啊，你曾对你仆人——我父大卫说，‘若你的子孙像你一样谨慎行事，遵行我的律法，你的王朝就不会中断。’求你信守这应许。 17 以色列的上帝耶和华啊，求你实现你给你仆人大卫的应许。
18 “然而，上帝啊，你真的会住在人间吗？看啊，诸天尚且不够你居住，更何况我建造的这殿呢？ 19 可是，我的上帝耶和华啊，求你垂顾你仆人的祷告和祈求，垂听你仆人在你面前的呼求和祷告。 20 愿你昼夜看顾这殿——你应许立你名的地方！你仆人向着这地方祷告的时候，求你垂听。 21 你仆人和你的以色列子民向这地方祈祷的时候，求你从你天上的居所垂听，赦免我们的罪。

24 “当你的以色列子民因得罪你而败在敌人手中时，如果他们回心转意归向你，承认你的名，在这殿里祈祷， 25 求你从天上垂听，赦免他们的罪，带领他们回到你赐给他们和他们祖先的土地上。
26 “当你的子民得罪你，你惩罚他们，使天不降雨时，如果他们向着这地方祷告，承认你的名，并离开罪恶， 27 求你在天上垂听，赦免你仆人——你以色列子民的罪，教导他们走正道，降下甘霖滋润你赐给你子民作产业的土地。
28 “如果国中有饥荒、瘟疫、旱灾、霉病、蝗灾、虫灾，或是城邑被敌人围困，无论遭遇什么灾祸疾病， 29 只要你的以色列子民，或个人或全体，自知心中痛苦并向着这殿伸手祷告，无论祈求什么， 30 求你从天上的居所垂听，赦免他们。唯独你能洞察人心，你必按各人的行为施行赏罚， 31 使你的子民在你赐给我们祖先的土地上终生敬畏你，遵行你的道。
32 “如果有远方的外族人听说你的大能大力，慕名而来，向着这殿祷告， 33 求你从天上的居所垂听，应允他们的祈求，好叫天下万民都像你的以色列子民一样认识你的名、敬畏你，并知道我建造的这殿属于你的名下。
34 “你的子民奉你的命令上阵与敌人作战，无论他们在哪里，如果他们向着你选择的这城和我为你建造的这殿祷告， 35 求你从天上垂听，使他们得胜。
36 “世上没有不犯罪的人，如果你的子民得罪你，以致你向他们发怒，让敌人把他们掳走，不论远近， 37 若他们在那里回心转意，向你恳求，承认自己犯罪作恶了； 38 若他们全心全意地归向你，朝着你赐给他们祖先的这片土地、你选择的这城和我为你建的这殿向你祷告， 39 求你从你天上的居所垂听他们的祈求，为他们伸张正义，赦免得罪你的子民。

Solomon’s Words to the People
6 Then Solomon said, “The Lord has said that He would live in the thick cloud. 2 I have built a great house for You. It is a place for You to live in forever.” 3 Then the king turned around and prayed that good would come to all the people of Israel, while all the people of Israel stood.
4 Solomon said, “Honor and thanks be to the Lord, the God of Israel. He spoke with His mouth to my father David. And He has kept His promises with His hands, saying, 5 ‘Since the day that I brought My people from the land of Egypt, I chose no city among all the families of Israel in which to build a house for My name. I did not choose any man to be a leader over My people Israel. 6 But I have chosen Jerusalem that My name might be there. And I have chosen David to rule My people Israel.’ 7 Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel. 8 But the Lord said to my father David, ‘Because it was in your heart to build a house for My name, you did well that it was in your heart. 9 But you will not build the house. Your son who will be born to you will build the house for My name.’ 10 Now the Lord has kept His promise which He made. For I have taken the place of my father David and sit on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised. And I have built the house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel. 11 There I have put the special box with the Law of the Lord which He gave to the people of Israel.”
Solomon’s Prayer
12 Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord, in front of all the people of Israel, and spread out his hands. 13 Solomon had made a special place to stand, out of brass. It was as long and as wide as three steps, and as high as a man’s chest. And he had put it in the center of the open space. He stood on it, then got down on his knees in front of all the people of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven. 14 He said, “O Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like You in heaven or on earth. You keep Your promises and show loving-kindness to Your servants who walk with You with all their hearts. 15 You have kept Your promises to Your servant David my father. Yes, You have spoken with Your mouth, and have done all You said You would do, as it is today. 16 So now, O Lord, God of Israel, keep Your promise which You made to Your servant David my father, saying, ‘You will never be without a man to sit on the throne of Israel. But your sons must be careful to walk in My Law, as you have done.’ 17 So now, O Lord, God of Israel, let Your Word be made sure which You have spoken to Your servant David.
18 “But is it true that God will live with man on the earth? See, heaven and the highest heaven cannot hold You. How much less can this house hold You which I have built! 19 But respect the prayer of Your servant and what he asks of You, O Lord my God. Listen to the cry and to the prayer which Your servant prays to You. 20 May Your eyes be open day and night toward this house, the place where You have promised to put Your name. Listen to the prayer which Your servant prays toward this place. 21 Listen to what Your servant and Your people Israel ask for when they pray toward this place. Hear from the place where You live, from heaven. Hear and forgive.
22 “If a man sins against his neighbor, and has to make a promise, and he comes and makes a promise before Your altar in this house, 23 then hear from heaven, and act. Judge Your servants. Punish the sinful by bringing his actions on his own head. And make it known that the one who is right and good is not guilty. Bring good to him because he is right and good.
24 “If Your people Israel lose a battle against those who hate them, because they have sinned against You, and they return to You and tell of Your name, and pray and ask of You in this house, 25 then listen to them from heaven and forgive the sin of Your people Israel. Bring them back to the land You have given to them and to their fathers.
26 “When the heavens are shut up and give no rain because the people have sinned against You, and they pray toward this place and tell of Your name, and turn from their sin when You bring trouble to them, 27 then hear in heaven and forgive the sin of Your servants and Your people Israel. Teach them the good way in which they should walk. And send rain on Your land which You have given to Your people.
28 “If there is a time of no food in the land, and if there is a disease that kills the plants, or if there are locusts or grasshoppers, if those who hate Your people send armies to trap them in their cities, whatever trouble or sickness there is, 29 hear the prayer made by any man or by all Your people Israel. Each one will know his own trouble and his own pain. And when he spreads his hands toward this house, 30 then hear from heaven where You live, and forgive. Give to each man what he should have. For You, and only You, know the hearts of men. 31 May they fear You and walk in Your ways as long as they live in the land You have given to our fathers.
32 “If a stranger who is not from Your people Israel comes from a far country because of Your great name, Your powerful hand, and Your strong arm, when he comes and prays toward this house, 33 hear from heaven where You live. Do all that the stranger asks of You. Then all the people of the earth may know Your name and honor You with fear, as Your people Israel do. And then they may know that this house I have built is called by Your name.
34 “When Your people go out to battle against those who hate them, by whatever way You send them, and they pray to You toward this city which You have chosen and the house I have built for Your name, 35 then hear their prayer from heaven and help them.
36 “When they sin against You, (for there is no man who does not sin), and You are angry with them and give them to those who hate them, they will be carried away against their will to a land far away or near. 37 If they think about it in the land where they have been taken, and are sorry for their sins and turn away from them and pray to You in the land where they have been taken, saying, ‘We have sinned. We have been bad and have done wrong.’ 38 If they come back to You with all their heart and soul in the land where they have been taken and pray toward their land which You gave to their fathers and toward the city You have chosen and toward the house I have built for Your name, 39 then hear from heaven where You live. Hear their prayer and what they ask for, and help them. Forgive Your people who have sinned against You.
40 “Now, O my God, I ask You, let Your eyes be open and let Your ears listen to the prayer given in this place. 41 Now rise up, O Lord God. Go to Your resting place, You and the special box of Your power. O Lord God, let Your religious leaders be dressed in saving power. Let those who belong to You be filled with joy in what is good. 42 O Lord God, do not turn away the face of Your chosen one. Remember Your loving-kindness to Your servant David.”

Solomon’s Dedication of the Temple
6 Then Solomon said:(A)
The Lord said he would dwell in total darkness,(B)
2 but I have built an exalted temple for you,
a place for your dwelling forever.
3 Then the king turned and blessed the entire congregation of Israel while they were standing. 4 He said:
Blessed be the Lord God of Israel!
He spoke directly to my father David,
and he has fulfilled the promise
by his power.
He said,
5 “Since the day I brought my people Israel
out of the land of Egypt,(C)
I have not chosen a city to build a temple in
among any of the tribes of Israel,
so that my name would be there,
and I have not chosen a man
to be ruler over my people Israel.
6 But I have chosen Jerusalem
so that my name will be there,(D)
and I have chosen David
to be over my people Israel.”(E)
7 My father David had his heart set
on building a temple for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.(F)
8 However, the Lord said to my father David,
“Since it was your desire to build a temple for my name,
you have done well to have this desire.
9 Yet, you are not the one to build the temple,
but your son, your own offspring,
will build the temple for my name.”
10 So the Lord has fulfilled what he promised.
I have taken the place of my father David
and I sit on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised.
I have built the temple for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.
11 I have put the ark there,
where the Lord’s covenant is
that he made with the Israelites.(G)
Solomon’s Prayer
12 Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in front of the entire congregation of Israel and spread out his hands. 13 For Solomon had made a bronze platform 7½ feet[a] long, 7½ feet wide, and 4½ feet[b] high and put it in the court. He stood on it,(H) knelt down in front of the entire congregation of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven.(I) 14 He said:
Lord God of Israel,
there is no God like you
in heaven or on earth,(J)
who keeps his gracious covenant
with your servants who walk before you
with all their heart.(K)
15 You have kept what you promised
to your servant, my father David.
You spoke directly to him,
and you fulfilled your promise by your power,
as it is today.(L)
16 Therefore, Lord God of Israel,
keep what you promised
to your servant, my father David:
“You will never fail to have a man
to sit before me on the throne of Israel,(M)
if only your sons take care to walk in my Law
as you have walked before me.”
17 Now, Lord God of Israel, please confirm
what you promised to your servant David.
18 But will God indeed live on earth with humans?
Even heaven, the highest heaven, cannot contain you,(N)
much less this temple I have built.
19 Listen[c] to your servant’s prayer and his petition,
Lord my God,
so that you may hear the cry and the prayer
that your servant prays before you,
20 so that your eyes watch over this temple
day and night,
toward the place where you said
you would put your name;(O)
and so that you may hear the prayer
your servant prays toward this place.
21 Hear the petitions of your servant
and your people Israel,
which they pray toward this place.
May you hear in your dwelling place in heaven.
May you hear and forgive.
22 If a man sins against his neighbor
and is forced to take an oath[d]
and he comes to take an oath
before your altar in this temple,
23 may you hear in heaven and act.
May you judge your servants,
condemning the wicked man by bringing
what he has done on his own head
and providing justice for the righteous
by rewarding him according to his righteousness.
24 If your people Israel are defeated before an enemy,
because they have sinned against you,
and they return to you and praise your name,
and they pray and plead for mercy
before you in this temple,
25 may you hear in heaven
and forgive the sin of your people Israel.
May you restore them to the land
you gave them and their ancestors.
26 When the skies are shut and there is no rain
because they have sinned against you,
and they pray toward this place
and praise your name,
and they turn from their sins
because you are afflicting[e](P) them,
27 may you hear in heaven
and forgive the sin of your servants
and your people Israel,
so that you may teach them the good way
they should walk in.
May you send rain on your land
that you gave your people for an inheritance.
28 When there is famine in the land,
when there is pestilence,
when there is blight or mildew, locust or grasshopper,
when their enemies besiege them
in the land and its cities,[f][g](Q)
when there is any plague or illness,
29 every prayer or petition
that any person or that all your people Israel may have—
they each know their own affliction[h] and suffering—
as they spread out their hands toward this temple,
30 may you hear in heaven, your dwelling place,
and may you forgive and give to everyone[i]
according to all their ways, since you know each heart,
for you alone know the human heart,(R)
31 so that they may fear you
and walk in your ways
all the days they live on the land
you gave our ancestors.
32 Even for the foreigner who is not of your people Israel
but has come from a distant land
because of your great name
and your strong hand and outstretched arm:(S)
when he comes and prays toward this temple,
33 may you hear in heaven in your dwelling place,
and do all the foreigner asks you.
Then all the peoples of the earth will know your name,
to fear you as your people Israel do
and know that this temple I have built
bears your name.(T)
34 When your people go out to fight against their enemies,
wherever you send them,
and they pray to you
in the direction of this city you have chosen(U)
and the temple that I have built for your name,
35 may you hear their prayer and petition in heaven
and uphold their cause.
36 When they sin against you—
for there is no one who does not sin(V)—
and you are angry with them
and hand them over to the enemy,
and their captors deport them
to a distant or nearby country,
37 and when they come to their senses
in the land where they were deported
and repent and petition you in their captors’ land,
saying, “We have sinned and done wrong;
we have been wicked,”
38 and when they return to you with all their mind and all their heart
in the land of their captivity where they were taken captive,
and when they pray in the direction of their land
that you gave their ancestors,
and the city you have chosen,
and toward the temple I have built for your name,
39 may you hear their prayer and petitions in heaven,
your dwelling place,
and uphold their cause.[j]
May you forgive your people
who sinned against you.
40 Now, my God,
please let your eyes be open
and your ears attentive
to the prayer of this place.(W)
41 Now therefore:(X)
Arise, Lord God, come to your resting place,
you and your powerful ark.
May your priests, Lord God, be clothed with salvation,
and may your faithful people rejoice in goodness.
42 Lord God, do not reject your anointed one;[k]
remember your servant David’s acts of faithful love.(Y)
