犹大王亚玛谢(A)
25 亚玛谢登基的时候年二十五岁，在耶路撒冷作王二十九年。他母亲名叫约耶但，是耶路撒冷人。 2 亚玛谢行耶和华眼中看为正的事，只是没有纯正的心。 3 他的王国一巩固，就把杀他父王的臣仆杀了， 4 却没有处死他们的儿子，这是照摩西律法书上耶和华所吩咐的说：“不可因子杀父，也不可因父杀子，各人要为自己的罪而死。”

5 亚玛谢召集犹大人，按着父家为全犹大和便雅悯设立千夫长、百夫长，又数点人数，从二十岁以上，能拿枪拿盾牌出去打仗的精兵共有三十万； 6 又用一百他连得银子，从以色列招募了十万大能的勇士。 7 有一个神人来见亚玛谢，对他说：“王啊，不要带领以色列的军兵与你同去，因为耶和华不和以色列，和任何以法莲的子孙同在。 8 你若一定要去，就奋勇作战吧！但 神必使你败在敌人面前，因为 神能助人得胜，也能使人落败。” 9 亚玛谢问神人：“我给了以色列军队的那一百他连得银子怎么样呢？”神人回答：“耶和华会把比这些更多的赐给你。” 10 于是亚玛谢把那从以法莲来的军兵分别出来，叫他们到自己的地方去。他们非常恼怒犹大，气愤地回自己的地方去了。 11 亚玛谢壮起胆来，率领他的军队到盐谷，杀了一万西珥人。 12 犹大人又生擒了一万人，把他们带到西拉山顶上，从西拉山顶扔下去，把他们全都摔碎了。 13 但亚玛谢所打发回去、不许一同出征的那些军兵劫掠犹大各城，从撒玛利亚直到伯‧和仑，杀了三千人，抢了许多财物。

17 犹大王亚玛谢经商议后，就派人去见耶户的孙子，约哈斯的儿子以色列王约阿施，说：“来，让我们面对面较量吧！” 18 以色列王约阿施派人去见犹大王亚玛谢，说：“黎巴嫩的蒺藜派人去见黎巴嫩的香柏树，说：‘将你的女儿嫁给我的儿子。’但有一只野兽经过黎巴嫩，把蒺藜践踏了。 19 你说，看哪，你打败了以东，就心高气傲，以此为荣。现在，你待在家里算了吧，为何要惹祸使自己和犹大一同败亡呢？”
20 亚玛谢却不肯听从。这是出乎 神，好将他们交在敌人手里，因为他们寻求以东的神明。 21 于是以色列王约阿施上来，在犹大的伯‧示麦与犹大王亚玛谢面对面较量。 22 犹大败在以色列面前，他们逃跑，各人逃回自己的帐棚去了。 23 以色列王约阿施在伯‧示麦擒住约哈斯[a]的孙子，约阿施的儿子犹大王亚玛谢，把他带到耶路撒冷，又拆毁耶路撒冷的城墙，从以法莲门直到角门共四百肘。 24 他带着俄别‧以东所看守 神殿里的一切金银和器皿，与王宫里的财宝，又带着人质，回撒玛利亚去了。

25 亞瑪謝二十五歲登基，在耶路撒冷執政二十九年。他母親叫約耶但，是耶路撒冷人。 2 他做耶和華視為正的事，只是沒有全心去做。 3 他鞏固了王位後，立即處死了殺他父王的臣僕， 4 但沒有處死他們的孩子，遵行了耶和華在摩西律法書中的吩咐：「不可因孩子犯罪而處死父親，也不可因父親犯罪而處死孩子。各人要自負罪責。」

Amaziah, King of Judah(A)
25 Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he was king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. The name of his mother was Jehoaddan from Jerusalem. 2 He did what was correct in the eyes of the Lord, only not with a complete heart. 3 And it happened that when the kingdom was firmly his that he killed his servants, those who struck down his father King Joash. 4 But he did not put to death their children because, as it is written in the Law in the Book of Moses, as the Lord commanded, “You will not put to death the fathers for their children’s actions nor the children will you put to death for their fathers’ actions, for every man will be put to death for his own sin.”
Slaughter of the Edomites
5 Then Amaziah assembled Judah and set over them according to the house of the fathers commanders of thousands and hundreds in all Judah and Benjamin, and he appointed men who were twenty years old and above. And they found three hundred thousand choice men fit for war and able to use a long spear and large shield. 6 And he hired out from Israel one hundred thousand mighty men of war for one hundred talents[a] of silver.
7 Then a man of God came to him saying, “O king, do not let the army of Israel come with you because the Lord is not with Israel or with any of the sons of Ephraim. 8 But if you go, do it. Be strong for the battle. Yet God shall make you fall before the enemy, for God has power to help and to bring down.”
9 Then Amaziah said to the man of God, “So what should I do about the one hundred talents of silver that I gave to the military party from Israel?”
And the man of God responded, “The Lord has more to give to you than this.”
10 So Amaziah dismissed the military party that came to him from Ephraim to return to their place. And they were very angry with Judah and returned to their place in a great rage.
11 But Amaziah strengthened himself and led his people, and he journeyed to the Valley of Salt and struck down ten thousand of the people of Seir. 12 And the people of Judah took captive another ten thousand alive and brought them to the top of a cliff and threw them from the top of the rock so that they were all dashed to pieces.
13 But the men of the military party that Amaziah turned back from going with him in battle raided the cities of Judah from Samaria to Beth Horon. They struck down three thousand Judeans and took a great amount of plunder.
14 And it happened after Amaziah came back from striking down the Edomites, he brought back the gods of the people from Seir and set them up as gods for himself. He worshipped them and gave them sacrifices. 15 So the Lord was greatly angry with Amaziah, and He sent a prophet to the king. And he said, “Why do you seek from the gods of the people who were not even able to deliver the people from your hand?”
16 But while the prophet was speaking, the king said, “Have we made you a counselor to the king? Stop! Why should you be struck down?”
The prophet refrained, but he said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you because you have done this and not heeded my advice.”
Israel Defeats Judah
17 Then Amaziah king of Judah received advice and sent for Jehoash[b] the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu king of Israel, saying, “Come, let us meet together.”
18 So Jehoash king of Israel sent a message for Amaziah king of Judah saying, “A thistle in Lebanon sent for a cedar in Lebanon stating, ‘Give your daughter to my son as a wife.’ Then an animal of the field in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle. 19 You say that you have struck down Edom, and your heart lifts you up in arrogance. Now remain in your palace. Why do you provoke disaster so that you fall, you and Judah with you?”
20 But Amaziah would not listen because this was from God so that He might give them into the hand of Jehoash because Amaziah had sought after the gods of Edom. 21 So Jehoash king of Israel went up, and they faced each other, he and Amaziah king of Judah, at Beth Shemesh, which is in Judah. 22 And Judah was struck down by Israel, and each man fled to his home. 23 So at Beth Shemesh, Jehoash king of Israel seized Amaziah king of Judah the son of Joash, the son of Ahaziah. And they brought him to Jerusalem and broke through the walls of the city from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate, a section of four hundred cubits.[c] 24 And Jehoash took all the gold and silver and all the vessels that were found in the house of God with Obed-Edom, even the treasures of the palace of the king and hostages. Then he returned to Samaria.
The Death of Amaziah
25 And Amaziah, the son of Joash king of Judah, lived fifteen years more after the death of Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz king of Israel. 26 Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, from first to last, are they not written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel? 27 From the time when Amaziah turned aside from the Lord, they plotted a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to Lachish. Then they sent for him and put him to death in Lachish. 28 They brought him on horses and buried him with his fathers in the City of David in Judah.

25 Khi lên ngôi, vua A-ma-xia được hai mươi lăm tuổi; vua trị vì hai mươi chín năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem; mẹ người tên Giô-a-đan, quê ở Giê-ru-sa-lem. 2 Người làm việc thiện trước mắt CHÚA nhưng không hết lòng. 3 Khi đã nắm vững vương quốc, vua hành quyết những cận thần đã mưu sát vua cha. 4 Nhưng vua không giết các con trai của họ theo như Kinh Luật Môi-se đã ghi. Trong Kinh Luật CHÚA phán: “Chớ giết cha vì tội của con cũng đừng giết con vì tội của cha; nhưng mỗi người sẽ chết vì tội của mình.”[a]
5 Vua A-ma-xia triệu tập người Giu-đa lại và lập những người chỉ huy ngàn quân và trăm quân theo gia đình cho cả Giu-đa và Bên-gia-min. Vua cũng kiểm kê được 300,000 người từ hai mươi tuổi trở lên, biết sử dụng khiên và giáo, sẵn sàng nhập ngũ. 6 Vua thuê 100,000 quân thiện chiến từ Y-sơ-ra-ên với giá một trăm ta-lâng bạc.[b] 7 Nhưng một người của Đức Chúa Trời đến nói với vua: “Tâu đức vua, xin đừng để đoàn quân Y-sơ-ra-ên đi với vua vì CHÚA không ở cùng quân Y-sơ-ra-ên và cũng không ở với tất cả những người Ép-ra-im này. 8 Nhưng nếu vua cứ đi và dù chiến đấu anh dũng nơi trận mạc thì Đức Chúa Trời cũng để cho vua thất bại trước quân thù vì Đức Chúa Trời có quyền giúp sức hay đánh bại.”
9 Vua A-ma-xia hỏi người của Đức Chúa Trời, “Còn một trăm ta-lâng bạc của ta trả cho quân Y-sơ-ra-ên thì sao?” Người của Đức Chúa Trời trả lời: “CHÚA có thể cho vua nhiều hơn thế nữa.” 10 Bấy giờ vua A-ma-xia giải tán đoàn quân đã đến với vua từ Ép-ra-im và cho họ ra về. Họ rất tức giận Giu-đa và trở về xứ lòng đầy phẫn nộ. 11 Vua A-ma-xia lấy can đảm dẫn quân mình tiến ra thung lũng Muối; tại đó vua giết 10,000 quân Sê-i-rơ. 12 Quân Giu-đa cũng bắt sống 10,000 người; họ đem chúng lên trên đỉnh núi đá và ném chúng xuống hố sâu; tất cả đều chết tan xác.

17 Sau khi thảo luận, A-ma-xia, vua Giu-đa sai sứ đến vua Giô-ách, con trai Giô-a-cha, cháu Giê-hu, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, nói rằng: “Hãy đến đây, chúng ta hãy đối diện nhau.” 18 Giô-ách vua Y-sơ-ra-ên trả lời A-ma-xia, vua Giu-đa: “Bụi gai ở Li-ban sai người đến nói với cây bá hương Li-ban rằng: ‘Xin gả con gái ngài cho con trai tôi;’ thế rồi một thú dữ ngoài đồng ở Li-ban đi ngang qua chà đạp bụi gai. 19 Ngươi tự bảo, kìa ta đã đánh bại Ê-đôm, rồi ngươi tự cao tự đại. Này, hãy ở nhà đi, sao ngươi muốn chuốc lấy tai họa để ngươi và cả Giu-đa phải sụp đổ?”
20 Nhưng vua A-ma-xia không chịu nghe vì việc này đến từ Đức Chúa Trời, Ngài muốn trao vua vào tay chúng vì vua đã cầu khẩn các thần của Ê-đôm. 21 Sau đó Giô-ách, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên tiến lên; vua và A-ma-xia, vua Giu-đa giao chiến với nhau tại Bết Sê-mết thuộc Giu-đa. 22 Quân Giu-đa bị quân Y-sơ-ra-ên đánh bại và bỏ chạy, mỗi người bỏ chạy về nhà. 23 Giô-ách, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên bắt sống được A-ma-xia, vua Giu-đa, con trai Giô-ách, cháu Giô-a-cha, tại Bết Sê-mết và điệu về Giê-ru-sa-lem. 25 A-ma-xia, con trai Giô-ách, vua Giu-đa sống thêm được mười lăm năm sau khi Giô-ách, con trai Giô-a-cha, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên qua đời. 26 Các công việc khác của vua A-ma-xia, từ đầu đến cuối, đã không được chép trong sách các vua Giu-đa và Y-sơ-ra-ên đó sao? 27 Từ khi vua A-ma-xia từ bỏ không theo CHÚA, người ta cũng âm mưu chống lại vua tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. Sau đó vua phải trốn qua La-ki nhưng người ta đuổi theo đến La-ki và giết vua tại đó. 28 Người ta cho ngựa chở vua về và chôn cất vua bên cạnh tổ tiên trong thành Giu-đa.
