犹大王约阿施
24 约阿施七岁登基，在耶路撒冷执政四十年。他母亲叫西比亚，是别示巴人。 2 耶何耶大祭司在世之日，约阿施做耶和华视为正的事。 3 耶何耶大为他娶了两个妻子，她们都为他生儿育女。

8 于是，王下令造一个箱子，放在耶和华殿的门外， 9 通告犹大和耶路撒冷的人民要将上帝的仆人摩西在旷野为以色列人定的税带来献给耶和华。 10 全体首领和民众都高高兴兴地把银子带来投进箱子里，直到箱子满了。 11 利未人见箱子满了，就抬到王的官员那里。王的书记和大祭司的属下会把箱子倒空，然后把箱子放回原处。日复一日，他们收了很多银子。 12 王与耶何耶大把银子交给耶和华殿里的办事人员，他们就雇用石匠、木匠、铁匠和铜匠来整修耶和华的殿。 13 工人辛勤整修，工程进展顺利，上帝的殿恢复了原貌，而且非常坚固。 14 完工后，他们把剩余的银子交给王与耶何耶大，这些银子被用来制造耶和华殿里的器具：供奉和献祭用的器皿、碟子和其他金银器皿。耶何耶大在世之日，民众常在耶和华的殿里献燔祭。
耶何耶大的政策被废弃
15 耶何耶大寿终正寝，享年一百三十岁。 16 民众把他葬在大卫城的王陵里，因为他在以色列为上帝和上帝的殿做了美善的事。
17 耶何耶大死后，犹大众首领来朝拜王，王对他们言听计从。 18 他们离弃他们祖先的上帝耶和华的殿，去供奉亚舍拉神像及其他偶像。因他们所犯的罪，上帝的烈怒临到犹大和耶路撒冷。 19 但耶和华仍然派先知到他们中间，引导他们归向祂。先知警告他们，他们却不听。
20 上帝的灵感动了耶何耶大祭司的儿子撒迦利亚，他便站在高处对民众说：“耶和华上帝这样说，‘你们为什么违反耶和华的诫命，以致不得亨通呢？既然你们背弃我，我也必离弃你们。’” 21 他们想谋害撒迦利亚，就照着王的命令，在耶和华殿的院子里用石头打死了他。 22 约阿施王不但不顾念撒迦利亚的父亲耶何耶大对他的恩惠，还杀死了耶何耶大的儿子。撒迦利亚临死的时候说：“愿耶和华鉴察，为我申冤！”
约阿施被杀
23 当年年底，亚兰的军兵前来攻击约阿施，入侵犹大和耶路撒冷，杀了民众的所有首领，把战利品全都送到大马士革王那里。 24 虽然亚兰军只来了一小队，但耶和华把大队的犹大军兵交在他们手中，以惩罚约阿施，因为犹大人背弃了他们祖先的上帝耶和华。
25 亚兰人退兵的时候，约阿施受了重伤，他的臣仆叛变，把他杀死在床上，为耶何耶大祭司的儿子报了血仇。约阿施死后葬在大卫城，但没有葬在王陵里。 26 杀他的是亚扪妇人示米押的儿子撒拔和摩押妇人示米利的儿子约萨拔。 27 至于约阿施的众子、他所受的警告以及他整修上帝殿的事都记在列王史上。他儿子亚玛谢继位。

Ipinaayos ni Joash ang Templo(A)
24 Si Joash ay pitong taong gulang nang maging hari. Sa Jerusalem siya tumira, at naghari siya roon sa loob ng 40 taon. Ang ina niya ay si Zibia na taga-Beersheba. 2 Matuwid ang ginawa ni Joash sa paningin ng Panginoon sa buong buhay ng paring si Jehoyada. 3 Pumili si Jehoyada ng dalawang asawa para sa kanya, at nagkaroon siya ng mga anak na lalaki at babae.
4 Pagkalipas ng ilang panahon, nagpasya si Joash na ipaayos ang templo. 5 Ipinatawag niya ang mga pari at mga Levita, at sinabi, “Pumunta kayo sa mga bayan ng Juda at kolektahin nʼyo ang mga buwis ng Israelita bawat taon, para maipaayos natin ang templo ng ating Dios.” Pero hindi agad sumunod ang mga Levita.

15 Nabuhay si Jehoyada nang mahabang taon, at namatay siya sa edad na 130. 16 Inilibing siya sa libingan ng mga hari sa Lungsod ni David, dahil sa mabubuting ginawa niya sa Israel para sa Dios at sa kanyang templo.
17 Pero pagkatapos mamatay ni Jehoyada, pumunta ang mga opisyal ng Juda kay Haring Joash at hinimok siyang makinig sa kanila. 18 Nagpasya sila na pabayaan na lang ang templo ng Panginoon, ang Dios ng kanilang mga ninuno, at sumamba sa posteng simbolo ng diosang si Ashera at sa iba pang mga dios-diosan. Dahil sa ginawa nila, nagalit ang Dios sa Juda at sa Jerusalem. 19 Nagpadala ang Panginoon ng mga propeta sa mga tao para pabalikin sila sa kanya, pero hindi sila nakinig.
20 Si Zacarias na anak ni Jehoyada na pari ay pinuspos ng Espiritu ng Dios. Tumayo siya sa harapan ng mga tao at nagsabi, “Ito ang sinabi ng Dios: Bakit hindi nʼyo sinusunod ang mga utos ng Panginoon? Hindi kayo uunlad kailanman. Dahil itinakwil nʼyo ang Panginoon, itatakwil din niya kayo.”
21 Nagplano ang mga opisyal na patayin si Zacarias. At sa utos ng hari, binato nila si Zacarias sa loob ng bakuran ng templo ng Panginoon, at namatay ito. 22 Kinalimutan ni Haring Joash ang kabutihang ipinakita sa kanya ni Jehoyada, na ama ni Zacarias. Sa halip, pinatay niya si Zacarias. Ito ang sinabi ni Zacarias nang naghihingalo na siya, “Sanaʼy pansinin ng Panginoon ang inyong ginawa, at singilin niya kayo.”
23 Nang simula ng bagong taon, nilusob ng mga sundalo ng Aram ang Juda. Natalo nila ang Juda at ang Jerusalem, at pinatay nila ang mga pinuno ng Juda. At dinala nila sa kanilang hari sa Damascus ang lahat ng kanilang nasamsam. 24 Kakaunti lang ang mga sundalo ng Aram na lumusob kung ihahambing sa mga sundalo ng Juda. Pero ipinatalo sa kanila ng Panginoon ang Juda, dahil itinakwil nila ang Panginoon, ang Dios ng kanilang mga ninuno. Kaya dumating ang parusang ito kay Joash.
25 Pag-alis ng mga taga-Aram, malubha ang mga sugat ni Joash. Pero nagplano ang kanyang mga opisyal na patayin siya dahil sa pagpatay niya sa anak ni Jehoyada na pari. Kaya pinatay nila siya sa kanyang higaan. Inilibing siya sa Lungsod ni David, pero hindi sa libingan ng mga hari.
26 Ang mga pumatay sa kanya ay sina Zabad na anak ng isang babaeng Ammonita na si Shimeat, at si Jehozabad na anak ng isang babaeng Moabita na si Shimrit. 27 Ang salaysay tungkol sa mga anak ni Joash, sa mga propesiya tungkol sa kanya, at sa pagpapaayos ng templo ng Dios ay nakasulat sa Aklat ng Kasaysayan ng mga Hari. At ang anak niyang si Amazia ang pumalit sa kanya bilang hari.

Les débuts du règne de Joas(A)
24 Joas était âgé de sept ans lorsqu’il devint roi. Il régna quarante ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère se nommait Tsibia, elle était originaire de Beer-Sheva. 2 Joas fit ce que l’Eternel considère comme juste pendant toute la vie du prêtre Yehoyada. 3 Celui-ci lui fit épouser deux femmes qui lui donnèrent des fils et des filles.
La réfection du Temple
4 Plus tard, Joas eut à cœur de restaurer le temple de l’Eternel[a]. 5 Il convoqua les prêtres et les lévites et leur dit : Allez parcourir les villes de Juda, et collectez chaque année dans tout Israël de l’argent pour réparer le temple de votre Dieu ! Menez promptement cette affaire !
Mais les lévites laissèrent traîner les choses. 6 Le roi convoqua le grand-prêtre Yehoyada et lui demanda : Pourquoi n’as-tu pas demandé aux lévites de percevoir des habitants de Juda et de Jérusalem l’impôt fixé par Moïse[b], serviteur de l’Eternel, à l’assemblée d’Israël, pour la tente où se trouvait l’acte de l’alliance ? 7 En effet, la perverse Athalie et ses partisans ont forcé l’entrée du temple de Dieu et ils ont même utilisé pour le culte des Baals tous les objets sacrés du temple de l’Eternel.
8 Sur ordre du roi, on fabriqua un coffre que l’on plaça près de l’entrée du temple de l’Eternel, à l’extérieur. 9 On fit proclamer dans Juda et dans Jérusalem qu’il fallait apporter à l’Eternel la contribution imposée à Israël par Moïse, serviteur de l’Eternel, dans le désert. 10 Tous les dirigeants et tout le peuple s’en réjouirent : ils apportèrent de l’argent et le mirent dans le coffre jusqu’à ce qu’il fût plein. 11 Lorsque venait le moment pour les lévites de l’apporter à l’inspection royale, et que l’on constatait qu’il y avait beaucoup d’argent, le secrétaire du roi et le commissaire du grand-prêtre venaient le vider, puis les lévites le prenaient pour le rapporter à sa place. On fit ainsi chaque jour et l’on collecta beaucoup d’argent. 12 Le roi et Yehoyada le remettaient à l’entrepreneur qui accomplissait les travaux de restauration du temple de l’Eternel, et ils payèrent des tailleurs de pierres et des charpentiers pour restaurer le temple de l’Eternel, ainsi que des artisans travaillant le fer et le bronze, pour faire des réparations dans le temple de l’Eternel. 13 Les entrepreneurs se mirent au travail et les réparations progressèrent par leurs soins. Ils remirent le Temple en état et le consolidèrent. 14 Lorsqu’ils eurent terminé les travaux, ils rapportèrent au roi et à Yehoyada le reste de l’argent. On l’utilisa pour fabriquer des objets pour le service du Temple et divers accessoires pour le culte et pour les holocaustes : coupes et autres ustensiles d’or et d’argent. Pendant toute la vie de Yehoyada, on offrit continuellement des holocaustes dans le temple de l’Eternel.
15 Yehoyada devint vieux et mourut rassasié de jours, à l’âge de cent trente ans. 16 On l’enterra dans la Cité de David avec les rois, parce qu’il avait agi pour le bien en Israël, pour la cause de Dieu et de son temple.
Idolâtrie et meurtre
17 Après la mort de Yehoyada, les dirigeants de Juda vinrent se prosterner devant le roi qui les écouta. 18 Ils délaissèrent le temple de l’Eternel, le Dieu de leurs ancêtres, et ils rendirent un culte aux Ashéras et aux idoles. Par cette conduite coupable, ils provoquèrent la colère de l’Eternel contre Juda et Jérusalem. 19 L’Eternel envoya parmi eux des prophètes pour les faire revenir à lui. Ces prophètes protestèrent contre eux, mais personne ne les écouta. 20 Alors l’Esprit de Dieu se saisit de Zacharie, fils du prêtre Yehoyada, il se présenta devant le peuple et dit : Voici ce que Dieu vous déclare : « Pourquoi enfreignez-vous les commandements de l’Eternel ? Vous ne réussirez rien ! Puisque vous avez abandonné l’Eternel, il vous a abandonnés. »
21 Alors les gens complotèrent contre lui et on le lapida sur ordre du roi dans le parvis du temple de l’Eternel[c].
22 Ainsi le roi Joas oublia toute la bienveillance dont Yehoyada, le père de Zacharie, avait fait preuve envers lui, et il fit tuer son fils. Zacharie dit en mourant : Que l’Eternel voie et qu’il fasse rendre compte !
Le châtiment et la fin de Joas(B)
23 A la fin de l’année, l’armée syrienne vint attaquer Joas. Les Syriens envahirent Juda et Jérusalem. Ils massacrèrent tous les dirigeants du peuple et envoyèrent tout le butin au roi de Damas. 24 Les Syriens étaient venus avec un petit nombre d’hommes, et cependant, l’Eternel leur donna la victoire sur une armée considérable de Judéens, parce que ceux-ci avaient abandonné l’Eternel, le Dieu de leurs ancêtres. Ainsi les Syriens furent les instruments du jugement contre Joas. 25 A peine se furent-ils retirés de chez lui, en le laissant dans de grandes souffrances, que ses ministres conspirèrent contre lui, à cause du meurtre des fils[d] du prêtre Yehoyada ; ils l’assassinèrent dans son lit. Une fois mort, on l’enterra dans la Cité de David, mais pas dans les tombeaux des rois[e]. 26 Les auteurs du complot contre lui étaient Zabad, fils d’une femme ammonite nommée Shimeath, et Yehozabad, fils de Shimrith, une femme moabite. 27 La liste des fils de Joas, le texte des nombreux oracles prononcés contre lui et le récit de la restauration du Temple, tout cela est consigné dans les commentaires du livre des rois. Son fils Amatsia, lui succéda sur le trône.

Joash Repairs the Temple(A)(B)
24 Joash was seven years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem forty years. His mother’s name was Zibiah; she was from Beersheba. 2 Joash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord(C) all the years of Jehoiada the priest. 3 Jehoiada chose two wives for him, and he had sons and daughters.
4 Some time later Joash decided to restore the temple of the Lord. 5 He called together the priests and Levites and said to them, “Go to the towns of Judah and collect the money(D) due annually from all Israel,(E) to repair the temple of your God. Do it now.” But the Levites(F) did not act at once.
6 Therefore the king summoned Jehoiada the chief priest and said to him, “Why haven’t you required the Levites to bring in from Judah and Jerusalem the tax imposed by Moses the servant of the Lord and by the assembly of Israel for the tent of the covenant law?”(G)
7 Now the sons of that wicked woman Athaliah had broken into the temple of God and had used even its sacred objects for the Baals.
8 At the king’s command, a chest was made and placed outside, at the gate of the temple of the Lord. 9 A proclamation was then issued in Judah and Jerusalem that they should bring to the Lord the tax that Moses the servant of God had required of Israel in the wilderness. 10 All the officials and all the people brought their contributions gladly,(H) dropping them into the chest until it was full. 11 Whenever the chest was brought in by the Levites to the king’s officials and they saw that there was a large amount of money, the royal secretary and the officer of the chief priest would come and empty the chest and carry it back to its place. They did this regularly and collected a great amount of money. 12 The king and Jehoiada gave it to those who carried out the work required for the temple of the Lord. They hired(I) masons and carpenters to restore the Lord’s temple, and also workers in iron and bronze to repair the temple.
13 The men in charge of the work were diligent, and the repairs progressed under them. They rebuilt the temple of God according to its original design and reinforced it. 14 When they had finished, they brought the rest of the money to the king and Jehoiada, and with it were made articles for the Lord’s temple: articles for the service and for the burnt offerings, and also dishes and other objects of gold and silver. As long as Jehoiada lived, burnt offerings were presented continually in the temple of the Lord.
15 Now Jehoiada was old and full of years, and he died at the age of a hundred and thirty. 16 He was buried with the kings in the City of David, because of the good he had done in Israel for God and his temple.
The Wickedness of Joash
17 After the death of Jehoiada, the officials of Judah came and paid homage to the king, and he listened to them. 18 They abandoned(J) the temple of the Lord, the God of their ancestors, and worshiped Asherah poles and idols.(K) Because of their guilt, God’s anger(L) came on Judah and Jerusalem. 19 Although the Lord sent prophets to the people to bring them back to him, and though they testified against them, they would not listen.(M)
20 Then the Spirit(N) of God came on Zechariah(O) son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood before the people and said, “This is what God says: ‘Why do you disobey the Lord’s commands? You will not prosper.(P) Because you have forsaken the Lord, he has forsaken(Q) you.’”
21 But they plotted against him, and by order of the king they stoned(R) him to death(S) in the courtyard of the Lord’s temple.(T) 22 King Joash did not remember the kindness Zechariah’s father Jehoiada had shown him but killed his son, who said as he lay dying, “May the Lord see this and call you to account.”(U)
23 At the turn of the year,[a] the army of Aram marched against Joash; it invaded Judah and Jerusalem and killed all the leaders of the people.(V) They sent all the plunder to their king in Damascus. 24 Although the Aramean army had come with only a few men,(W) the Lord delivered into their hands a much larger army.(X) Because Judah had forsaken the Lord, the God of their ancestors, judgment was executed on Joash. 25 When the Arameans withdrew, they left Joash severely wounded. His officials conspired against him for murdering the son of Jehoiada the priest, and they killed him in his bed. So he died and was buried(Y) in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.
26 Those who conspired against him were Zabad,[b] son of Shimeath an Ammonite woman, and Jehozabad, son of Shimrith[c](Z) a Moabite woman.(AA) 27 The account of his sons, the many prophecies about him, and the record of the restoration of the temple of God are written in the annotations on the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son succeeded him as king.
