亞哈謝作猶大王(A)
22 耶路撒冷的居民立了約蘭的小兒子亞哈謝接續他作王；因為那些和阿拉伯人同來攻營的匪徒，把亞哈謝的哥哥全都殺了。這樣，猶大王約蘭的兒子亞哈謝就作了王。 2 亞哈謝登基的時候是二十二歲（“二十二歲”原文作“四十二歲”；現參照古譯本和王下8:26修譯）；他在耶路撒冷作王一年。他的母親名叫亞他利雅，是暗利的孫女。 3 亞哈謝也隨從亞哈家的道路，因為他母親教唆他行惡。 4 他行耶和華看為惡的事，好像亞哈家一樣，因為他的父親死了以後，亞哈家的人就教唆他，好使他滅亡。 5 他隨從了他們的計謀，和以色列王亞哈的兒子約蘭一同到基列的拉末去，和亞蘭王哈薛交戰；亞蘭人擊傷了約蘭。 6 於是約蘭回到耶斯列去，醫治他在拉末和亞蘭王交戰的時候所受的傷。猶大王約蘭的兒子亞撒利雅，因亞哈的兒子約蘭病了，就下到耶斯列去看他。

7 亞哈謝去見約蘭，就遇了害，這原是出於 神；因為他去到以後，就和約蘭一同出去攻擊寧示的孫子耶戶。這耶戶就是耶和華所膏的，為要除滅亞哈家。 8 耶戶討伐亞哈家的罪的時候，遇見了猶大的眾領袖和亞哈謝的兄弟的兒子，他們都是侍候亞哈謝的，耶戶把他們都殺了。 9 耶戶追尋亞哈謝。那時，亞哈謝躲藏在撒瑪利亞，有人捉住他，把他帶到耶戶那裡，耶戶就殺了他，卻把他埋葬了，因為他們說：“他是約沙法的孫子；這約沙法是一心尋求耶和華的。”這樣，亞哈謝的家沒有一人有能力可以保持王權的。

10 亞哈謝的母親亞他利雅見自己的兒子死了，就起來殺盡猶大家中所有王族的後裔。 11 但是王的女兒約示巴，把亞哈謝的兒子約阿施從那些將要被殺的王子中偷出來，把他和他的乳母都藏在臥房裡。約蘭王的女兒約示巴是大祭司耶何耶大的妻子，把約阿施收藏起來，躲避亞他利雅，免得被亞他利雅殺死，因為約示巴是亞哈謝的妹妹。 12 約阿施和他們在 神的殿裡一同躲藏了六年；那時亞他利雅統治猶大地。

Ahaziah King of Judah(A)(B)
22 The people(C) of Jerusalem(D) made Ahaziah, Jehoram’s youngest son, king in his place, since the raiders,(E) who came with the Arabs into the camp, had killed all the older sons. So Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah began to reign.
2 Ahaziah was twenty-two[a] years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem one year. His mother’s name was Athaliah, a granddaughter of Omri.
3 He too followed(F) the ways of the house of Ahab,(G) for his mother encouraged him to act wickedly. 4 He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, as the house of Ahab had done, for after his father’s death they became his advisers, to his undoing. 5 He also followed their counsel when he went with Joram[b] son of Ahab king of Israel to wage war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth Gilead.(H) The Arameans wounded Joram; 6 so he returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds they had inflicted on him at Ramoth[c] in his battle with Hazael(I) king of Aram.
Then Ahaziah[d] son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to Jezreel to see Joram son of Ahab because he had been wounded.
7 Through Ahaziah’s(J) visit to Joram, God brought about Ahaziah’s downfall. When Ahaziah arrived, he went out with Joram to meet Jehu son of Nimshi, whom the Lord had anointed to destroy the house of Ahab. 8 While Jehu was executing judgment on the house of Ahab,(K) he found the officials of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah’s relatives, who had been attending Ahaziah, and he killed them. 9 He then went in search of Ahaziah, and his men captured him while he was hiding(L) in Samaria. He was brought to Jehu and put to death. They buried him, for they said, “He was a son of Jehoshaphat, who sought(M) the Lord with all his heart.” So there was no one in the house of Ahaziah powerful enough to retain the kingdom.
Athaliah and Joash(N)
10 When Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she proceeded to destroy the whole royal family of the house of Judah. 11 But Jehosheba,[e] the daughter of King Jehoram, took Joash son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the royal princes who were about to be murdered and put him and his nurse in a bedroom. Because Jehosheba,[f] the daughter of King Jehoram and wife of the priest Jehoiada, was Ahaziah’s sister, she hid the child from Athaliah so she could not kill him. 12 He remained hidden with them at the temple of God for six years while Athaliah ruled the land.

22 Then the inhabitants of Jerusalem made (B)Ahaziah his youngest son king in his place, for the raiders who came with the (C)Arabians into the camp had killed all the (D)older sons. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, reigned. 2 Ahaziah was [a]forty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. 7 His going to Joram (G)was God’s occasion for Ahaziah’s [e]downfall; for when he arrived, (H)he went out with [f]Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, (I)whom the Lord had anointed to [g]cut off the house of Ahab. 8 And it happened, when Jehu was (J)executing judgment on the house of Ahab, and (K)found the princes of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah’s brothers who served Ahaziah, that he killed them. 9 (L)Then he searched for Ahaziah; and they caught him (he was hiding in Samaria), and brought him to Jehu. When they had killed him, they buried him, “because,” they said, “he is the son of (M)Jehoshaphat, who (N)sought the Lord with all his heart.”
So the house of Ahaziah had no one to assume power over the kingdom.
Athaliah Reigns in Judah(O)
10 (P)Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal heirs of the house of Judah. 11 But [h]Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took (Q)Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king’s sons who were being murdered, and put him and his nurse in a bedroom. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest (for she was the sister of Ahaziah), hid him from Athaliah so that she did not kill him. 12 And he was hidden with them in the house of God for six years, while Athaliah reigned over the land.

2 Forty-two years old was Ahaziah when he began his one-year reign in Jerusalem. His mother was Athaliah, a granddaughter of Omri.(A)
3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother was his counselor to do wickedly.
4 So he did evil in the sight of the Lord like the house of Ahab, for they were his counselors after his father’s death, to his destruction.
5 He followed their counsel and even went with [a]Joram son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth-gilead. And the Syrians wounded Joram;(B)
6 And he returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds given him at Ramah when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. Azariah son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram son of Ahab in Jezreel because he was sick.
7 But the destruction of Ahaziah was ordained of God in his coming to visit Joram. For when he got there he went out with Joram against Jehu son of Nimshi, whom the Lord had anointed to destroy the house of Ahab.
8 And when Jehu was executing judgment upon the house of Ahab, he met the princes of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah’s slain brothers, who attended Ahaziah, and he slew them.
9 And [Jehu] sought Ahaziah, who was hiding in Samaria; he was captured, brought to Jehu, and slain. They buried him, for they said, After all, he is the grandson of Jehoshaphat, who sought the Lord with all his heart. So the house of Ahaziah had no one left able to rule the kingdom.
10 But when Athaliah mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal family of Judah.
11 But Jehosheba, the daughter of the king, took Joash [infant] son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the king’s sons who were to be slain, and she put him and his nurse in a bedchamber. So Jehosheba daughter of King Jehoram, sister of Ahaziah, and wife of Jehoiada the priest, hid [Joash] from [his grandmother] Athaliah, so that she did not slay him.
12 And Joash was with them hidden in the house of God six years, and Athaliah reigned over the land.
