耶和华禁罗波安与以色列战
11 罗波安来到耶路撒冷，招聚犹大家和便雅悯家，共十八万人，都是挑选的战士，要与以色列人争战，好将国夺回再归自己。 2 但耶和华的话临到神人示玛雅说： 3 “你去告诉所罗门的儿子犹大王罗波安和住犹大、便雅悯的以色列众人说： 4 ‘耶和华如此说：你们不可上去与你们的弟兄争战。各归各家去吧，因为这事出于我。’”众人就听从耶和华的话归回，不去与耶罗波安争战。
5 罗波安住在耶路撒冷，在犹大地修筑城邑， 6 为保障修筑伯利恒、以坦、提哥亚、 7 伯夙、梭哥、亚杜兰、 8 迦特、玛利沙、西弗、 9 亚多莱音、拉吉、亚西加、 10 琐拉、亚雅仑、希伯仑，这都是犹大和便雅悯的坚固城。 11 罗波安又坚固各处的保障，在其中安置军长，又预备下粮食、油、酒。 12 他在各城里预备盾牌和枪，且使城极其坚固。犹大和便雅悯都归了他。
祭司利未人咸归罗波安
13 以色列全地的祭司和利未人都从四方来归罗波安。 14 利未人撇下他们的郊野和产业，来到犹大与耶路撒冷，是因耶罗波安和他的儿子拒绝他们，不许他们供祭司职分侍奉耶和华。 15 耶罗波安为丘坛，为鬼魔[a]，为自己所铸造的牛犊，设立祭司。 16 以色列各支派中，凡立定心意寻求耶和华以色列神的，都随从利未人来到耶路撒冷，祭祀耶和华他们列祖的神。 17 这样，就坚固犹大国，使所罗门的儿子罗波安强盛三年，因为他们三年遵行大卫和所罗门的道。

18 罗波安娶大卫儿子耶利摩的女儿玛哈拉为妻，又娶耶西儿子以利押的女儿亚比孩为妻。 19 从她生了几个儿子，就是耶乌施、示玛利雅、撒罕。 20 后来又娶押沙龙的女儿玛迦[b]，从她生了亚比雅、亚太、细撒、示罗密。 21 罗波安娶十八个妻，立六十个妾，生二十八个儿子、六十个女儿，他却爱押沙龙的女儿玛迦比爱别的妻妾更甚。 22 罗波安立玛迦的儿子亚比雅做太子，在他弟兄中为首，因为想要立他接续做王。 23 罗波安办事精明，使他众子分散在犹大和便雅悯全地各坚固城里，又赐他们许多粮食，为他们多寻妻子。

11 羅波安回到耶路撒冷，從猶大和便雅憫支派召集了十八萬精兵，要攻打以色列，收復全國。 2 然而，耶和華上帝對祂的僕人示瑪雅說： 3 「你去告訴所羅門的兒子猶大王羅波安和所有住在猶大和便雅憫的以色列人， 4 耶和華這樣說，『你們不要上去與弟兄交戰，都回家吧，因為這事出於我。』」眾人聽從了耶和華的話，沒有去攻打耶羅波安，各自回家去了。
羅波安加強防禦

Judah and Benjamin Fortified
11 When Rehoboam came to Jerusalem, he assembled one hundred eighty thousand chosen troops of the house of Judah and Benjamin to fight against Israel, to restore the kingdom to Rehoboam.(A) 2 But the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah the man of God:(B) 3 “Say to King Rehoboam of Judah, son of Solomon, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin: 4 Thus says the Lord: You shall not go up or fight against your kindred. Let everyone return home, for this thing is from me.” So they heeded the word of the Lord and turned back from the expedition against Jeroboam.(C)
5 Rehoboam resided in Jerusalem, and he built cities for defense in Judah. 6 He built up Bethlehem, Etam, Tekoa, 7 Beth-zur, Soco, Adullam, 8 Gath, Mareshah, Ziph, 9 Adoraim, Lachish, Azekah, 10 Zorah, Aijalon, and Hebron, fortified cities that are in Judah and in Benjamin. 11 He made the fortresses strong and put commanders in them and stores of food, oil, and wine. 12 He also put large shields and spears in all the cities and made them very strong. So he held Judah and Benjamin.
Priests and Levites Support Rehoboam
13 The priests and the Levites who were in all Israel presented themselves to him from all their territories. 14 The Levites had left their pasturelands and possessions and had come to Judah and Jerusalem because Jeroboam and his sons had prevented them from serving as priests of the Lord(D) 15 and had appointed his own priests for the high places and for the goat-demons and for the calves that he had made.(E) 16 Those who had set their hearts to seek the Lord God of Israel came after them from all the tribes of Israel to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the Lord, the God of their ancestors.(F) 17 They strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and for three years they made Rehoboam son of Solomon secure, for they walked for three years in the way of David and Solomon.(G)
Rehoboam’s Marriages
18 Rehoboam took as his wife Mahalath daughter of Jerimoth son of David and of Abihail daughter of Eliab son of Jesse.(H) 19 She bore him sons: Jeush, Shemariah, and Zaham. 20 After her he took Maacah daughter of Absalom, who bore him Abijah, Attai, Ziza, and Shelomith. 21 Rehoboam loved Maacah daughter of Absalom more than all his other wives and concubines (he took eighteen wives and sixty concubines and became the father of twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters).(I) 22 Rehoboam appointed Abijah son of Maacah as chief prince among his brothers, for he intended to make him king.(J) 23 He dealt wisely and distributed some of his sons through all the districts of Judah and Benjamin, in all the fortified cities; he gave them abundant provisions and found many wives for them.
