大卫做以色列人的王
11 以色列人都聚集到希伯仑来见大卫，对他说：“我们是你的骨肉同胞。 2 从前，即使扫罗做王的时候，率领以色列人出征打仗的仍是你。你的上帝耶和华也曾应许让你做祂以色列子民的牧者和首领。” 3 以色列的长老都到希伯仑见大卫王，大卫与他们在耶和华面前立约，他们膏立大卫做以色列的王，这应验了耶和华借撒母耳所说的话。 4 大卫和以色列众人来到耶路撒冷，即耶布斯。那时耶布斯人住在那里。 5 耶布斯人对大卫说：“你攻不进来。”可是，大卫攻取了锡安的堡垒，即后来的大卫城。 6 大卫说：“谁先攻打耶布斯人，谁就做元帅。”洗鲁雅的儿子约押首先进攻，于是就做了元帅。 7 大卫占据了堡垒，因此那堡垒就叫大卫城。 8 大卫又从米罗开始，在四围修建城墙，其余的部分由约押修建。 9 大卫日渐强盛，因为万军之耶和华与他同在。
大卫的勇士

20 约押的兄弟亚比筛是这三个勇士的统领，他曾挥矛刺死三百人，在三勇士中出了名， 21 最有声望，因此做了他们的统领，只是不及前三位勇士。
22 甲薛人耶何耶大的儿子比拿雅是位勇士，做过非凡的事。他曾杀死摩押的两个勇猛战士，也曾在下雪天跳进坑中杀死一头狮子， 23 还曾杀死一个两米多高的埃及巨人。当时埃及人拿着织布机轴般粗的长矛，比拿雅只拿着棍子迎战，他夺了对方的长矛，用那矛刺死了对方。 24 这是耶何耶大的儿子比拿雅的事迹，他在这三个勇士中出了名， 25 比那三十个勇士更有声望，只是不及前三位勇士。大卫派他做护卫长。

King James Version
11 Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.
2 And moreover in time past, even when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the Lord thy God said unto thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be ruler over my people Israel.
3 Therefore came all the elders of Israel to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the Lord; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord by Samuel.
4 And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus; where the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of the land.
5 And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not come hither. Nevertheless David took the castle of Zion, which is the city of David.
6 And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was chief.
7 And David dwelt in the castle; therefore they called it the city of David.
8 And he built the city round about, even from Millo round about: and Joab repaired the rest of the city.
9 So David waxed greater and greater: for the Lord of hosts was with him.
10 These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the Lord concerning Israel.
11 And this is the number of the mighty men whom David had; Jashobeam, an Hachmonite, the chief of the captains: he lifted up his spear against three hundred slain by him at one time.
12 And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighties.
13 He was with David at Pasdammim, and there the Philistines were gathered together to battle, where was a parcel of ground full of barley; and the people fled from before the Philistines.
14 And they set themselves in the midst of that parcel, and delivered it, and slew the Philistines; and the Lord saved them by a great deliverance.
15 Now three of the thirty captains went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the host of the Philistines encamped in the valley of Rephaim.
16 And David was then in the hold, and the Philistines' garrison was then at Bethlehem.
17 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, that is at the gate!
18 And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink of it, but poured it out to the Lord.
19 And said, My God forbid it me, that I should do this thing: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? for with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mightiest.
20 And Abishai the brother of Joab, he was chief of the three: for lifting up his spear against three hundred, he slew them, and had a name among the three.
21 Of the three, he was more honourable than the two; for he was their captain: howbeit he attained not to the first three.
22 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done many acts; he slew two lionlike men of Moab: also he went down and slew a lion in a pit in a snowy day.
23 And he slew an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian's hand was a spear like a weaver's beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear.
24 These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among the three mighties.
25 Behold, he was honourable among the thirty, but attained not to the first three: and David set him over his guard.
26 Also the valiant men of the armies were, Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem,
27 Shammoth the Harorite, Helez the Pelonite,
28 Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, Abiezer the Antothite,
29 Sibbecai the Hushathite, Ilai the Ahohite,
30 Maharai the Netophathite, Heled the son of Baanah the Netophathite,
31 Ithai the son of Ribai of Gibeah, that pertained to the children of Benjamin, Benaiah the Pirathonite,
32 Hurai of the brooks of Gaash, Abiel the Arbathite,
33 Azmaveth the Baharumite, Eliahba the Shaalbonite,
34 The sons of Hashem the Gizonite, Jonathan the son of Shage the Hararite,
35 Ahiam the son of Sacar the Hararite, Eliphal the son of Ur,
36 Hepher the Mecherathite, Ahijah the Pelonite,
37 Hezro the Carmelite, Naarai the son of Ezbai,
38 Joel the brother of Nathan, Mibhar the son of Haggeri,
39 Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Berothite, the armourbearer of Joab the son of Zeruiah,
40 Ira the Ithrite, Gareb the Ithrite,
41 Uriah the Hittite, Zabad the son of Ahlai,
42 Adina the son of Shiza the Reubenite, a captain of the Reubenites, and thirty with him,
43 Hanan the son of Maachah, and Joshaphat the Mithnite,

45 Jediael the son of Shimri, and Joha his brother, the Tizite,

11 Hela Israel samlades hos David i Hebron och sa: ”Vi är ditt eget kött och blod, 2 och redan när Saul var kung var det du som anförde Israel i strid. Herren, din Gud, har sagt till dig: ’Du ska vara herde för mitt folk Israel, du ska vara furste över Israel!’ ”
3 Alla de äldste i Israel kom alltså till kung David i Hebron. David slöt ett förbund med dem inför Herren, och de smorde honom till kung över Israel, precis som Herren hade talat genom Samuel.
4 Sedan tågade David och hela Israel mot Jerusalem, alltså Jevus, där jevuséerna bodde. 5 Men jevuséerna sa till David: ”Här kommer du inte in!” David intog då Sions borg, Davids stad, 6 och sa: ”Den som anfaller jevuséerna blir överbefälhavare!” Joav, Serujas son, gick upp först och blev så överbefälhavare. 7 David bosatte sig i borgen, och därför kallades den Davids stad. 8 Han byggde staden runt borgen, från Millo och vidare runt omkring, medan Joav restaurerade återstoden av staden. 9 David blev allt mäktigare, för härskarornas Herre var med honom.
Davids hjältar
(2 Sam 23:8-39)
10 Dessa är de förnämsta bland Davids hjältar, som tillsammans med hela Israel gav hans kungadöme starkt stöd och gjorde honom till kung över hela landet, som Herren hade talat till Israel.
11 Detta är förteckningen över Davids hjältar: Jishbaal, son till en man av Hakmonis släkt, den förnämste bland de trettio[a], som vid ett tillfälle dödade 300 man med sitt spjut.
12 Närmast honom i rang var Elasar, son till Dodo av Achoachs släkt. Han var en av de tre hjältarna. 13 Han var med David vid Pas Dammim, när filistéerna hade samlats till strid. Där fanns en åker full med korn. Israeliterna flydde för filistéerna. 14 De ställde sig mitt på åkern, försvarade den, slog filistéerna, och genom honom utförde Herren en stor räddning.
15 En annan gång gick tre av de trettio förnämsta kämparna ner för klippan till David i Adullams grotta, medan filistéerna hade slagit läger i Refaimdalen, 16 David befann sig i borgen och en filisteisk utpost fanns i Betlehem.
17 David sa längtansfullt: ”Ack om någon kunde hämta lite vatten från källan vid porten till Betlehem!” 18 De tre bröt sig då igenom filistéernas läger och hämtade upp vatten ur brunnen vid Betlehems stadsport och förde det med sig tillbaka till David. Men David vägrade att dricka det och hällde ut det som ett dryckesoffer till Herren 19 och sa: ”Nej, Gud förbjude att jag skulle göra något sådant! Skulle jag dricka blodet av dessa män som riskerat sina liv för att hämta det?” Eftersom de riskerat sina liv för att hämta vattnet, ville han inte dricka det. Sådana var de tre hjältarnas bedrifter.
20 Avishaj, Joavs bror, var befälhavare för de trettio[b]. En gång dödade han 300 man med sitt spjut, och han blev lika berömd som de tre. 21 Hans anseende blev större än någon bland de tre och han blev deras befälhavare, men han räknades inte som en av dem.
22 Benaja var son till Jojada och en tapper soldat från Kavseel. Han gjorde många stordåd och dödade två av Moabs bästa män[c]. Han gick också ner och slog ihjäl ett lejon i en brunn en snöig dag. 23 En annan gång dödade han en storväxt egypter som var 2,5 meter lång och hade ett spjut tjockt som en vävbom. Benaja gick fram till honom beväpnad med en stav. Han ryckte spjutet från egypterns hand och dödade honom med det. 24 Sådana var Benajas, Jojadas sons, bedrifter, och han fick stort anseende bland de tre[d] hjältarna. 25 Han var mer berömd än de trettio, men han räknades inte med bland de tre. David gav honom befälet över sin livvakt.
