39 约 瑟 被 带 下 埃 及 去 。 有 一 个 埃 及 人 ， 是 法 老 的 内 臣 ─ 护 卫 长 波 提 乏 ， 从 那 些 带 下 他 来 的 以 实 玛 利 人 手 下 买 了 他 去 。
2 约 瑟 住 在 他 主 人 埃 及 人 的 家 中 ， 耶 和 华 与 他 同 在 ， 他 就 百 事 顺 利 。
3 他 主 人 见 耶 和 华 与 他 同 在 ， 又 见 耶 和 华 使 他 手 里 所 办 的 尽 都 顺 利 ，
4 约 瑟 就 在 主 人 眼 前 蒙 恩 ， 伺 候 他 主 人 ， 并 且 主 人 派 他 管 理 家 务 ， 把 一 切 所 有 的 都 交 在 他 手 里 。
5 自 从 主 人 派 约 瑟 管 理 家 务 和 他 一 切 所 有 的 ， 耶 和 华 就 因 约 瑟 的 缘 故 赐 福 与 那 埃 及 人 的 家 ； 凡 家 里 和 田 间 一 切 所 有 的 都 蒙 耶 和 华 赐 福 。
6 波 提 乏 将 一 切 所 有 的 都 交 在 约 瑟 的 手 中 ， 除 了 自 己 所 吃 的 饭 ， 别 的 事 一 概 不 知 。 约 瑟 原 来 秀 雅 俊 美 。
7 这 事 以 後 ， 约 瑟 主 人 的 妻 以 目 送 情 给 约 瑟 ， 说 ： 你 与 我 同 寝 罢 ！
8 约 瑟 不 从 ， 对 他 主 人 的 妻 说 ： 看 哪 ， 一 切 家 务 ， 我 主 人 都 不 知 道 ； 他 把 所 有 的 都 交 在 我 手 里 。
9 在 这 家 里 没 有 比 我 大 的 ； 并 且 他 没 有 留 下 一 样 不 交 给 我 ， 只 留 下 了 你 ， 因 为 你 是 他 的 妻 子 。 我 怎 能 作 这 大 恶 ， 得 罪 神 呢 ？
10 後 来 他 天 天 和 约 瑟 说 ， 约 瑟 却 不 听 从 他 ， 不 与 他 同 寝 ， 也 不 和 他 在 一 处 。
11 有 一 天 ， 约 瑟 进 屋 里 去 办 事 ， 家 中 人 没 有 一 个 在 那 屋 里 ，
12 妇 人 就 拉 住 他 的 衣 裳 ， 说 ： 你 与 我 同 寝 罢 ！ 约 瑟 把 衣 裳 丢 在 妇 人 手 里 ， 跑 到 外 边 去 了 。
13 妇 人 看 见 约 瑟 把 衣 裳 丢 在 他 手 里 跑 出 去 了 ，
14 就 叫 了 家 里 的 人 来 ， 对 他 们 说 ： 你 们 看 ！ 他 带 了 一 个 希 伯 来 人 进 入 我 们 家 里 ， 要 戏 弄 我 们 。 他 到 我 这 里 来 ， 要 与 我 同 寝 ， 我 就 大 声 喊 叫 。
15 他 听 见 我 放 声 喊 起 来 ， 就 把 衣 裳 丢 在 我 这 里 ， 跑 到 外 边 去 了 。
16 妇 人 把 约 瑟 的 衣 裳 放 在 自 己 那 里 ， 等 着 他 主 人 回 家 ，
17 就 对 他 如 此 如 此 说 ： 你 所 带 到 我 们 这 里 的 那 希 伯 来 仆 人 进 来 要 戏 弄 我 ，
18 我 放 声 喊 起 来 ， 他 就 把 衣 裳 丢 在 我 这 里 ， 跑 出 去 了 。
19 约 瑟 的 主 人 听 见 他 妻 子 对 他 所 说 的 话 ， 说 ： 你 的 仆 人 如 此 如 此 待 我 ， 他 就 生 气 ，
20 把 约 瑟 下 在 监 里 ， 就 是 王 的 囚 犯 被 囚 的 地 方 。 於 是 约 瑟 在 那 里 坐 监 。
21 但 耶 和 华 与 约 瑟 同 在 ， 向 他 施 恩 ， 使 他 在 司 狱 的 眼 前 蒙 恩 。
22 司 狱 就 把 监 里 所 有 的 囚 犯 都 交 在 约 瑟 手 下 ； 他 们 在 那 里 所 办 的 事 都 是 经 他 的 手 。
23 凡 在 约 瑟 手 下 的 事 ， 司 狱 一 概 不 察 ， 因 为 耶 和 华 与 约 瑟 同 在 ； 耶 和 华 使 他 所 做 的 尽 都 顺 利 。

Joseph and Potiphar’s Wife
39 Now Joseph(A) had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard,(B) bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there.(C)
2 The Lord was with Joseph(D) so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. 3 When his master saw that the Lord was with him(E) and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did,(F) 4 Joseph found favor in his eyes(G) and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household,(H) and he entrusted to his care everything he owned.(I) 5 From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the Lord blessed the household(J) of the Egyptian because of Joseph.(K) The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field.(L) 6 So Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph’s care;(M) with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate.
Now Joseph was well-built and handsome,(N) 7 and after a while his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me!”(O)
8 But he refused.(P) “With me in charge,” he told her, “my master does not concern himself with anything in the house; everything he owns he has entrusted to my care.(Q) 9 No one is greater in this house than I am.(R) My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?”(S) 10 And though she spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused(T) to go to bed with her or even be with her.
11 One day he went into the house to attend to his duties,(U) and none of the household servants(V) was inside. 12 She caught him by his cloak(W) and said, “Come to bed with me!”(X) But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house.(Y)
13 When she saw that he had left his cloak in her hand and had run out of the house, 14 she called her household servants.(Z) “Look,” she said to them, “this Hebrew(AA) has been brought to us to make sport of us!(AB) He came in here to sleep with me, but I screamed.(AC) 15 When he heard me scream for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”(AD)
16 She kept his cloak beside her until his master came home. 17 Then she told him this story:(AE) “That Hebrew(AF) slave(AG) you brought us came to me to make sport of me. 18 But as soon as I screamed for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”
19 When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is how your slave treated me,” he burned with anger.(AH) 20 Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison,(AI) the place where the king’s prisoners were confined.
But while Joseph was there in the prison, 21 the Lord was with him;(AJ) he showed him kindness(AK) and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.(AL) 22 So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there.(AM) 23 The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s(AN) care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.(AO)

Iosif, în Egipt
39 Iosif a fost dus în Egipt, şi Potifar(A), dregătorul lui Faraon, căpetenia străjerilor, un egiptean, l-a cumpărat(B) de la ismaeliţii care-l aduseseră acolo. 2 Domnul(C) a fost cu Iosif, aşa că toate îi mergeau bine; el locuia în casa stăpânului său, egipteanul. 3 Stăpânul lui a văzut că Domnul era cu el şi că Domnul făcea(D) să-i meargă bine ori de ce se apuca. 4 Iosif(E) a căpătat mare trecere înaintea stăpânului său, care l-a luat în slujba lui, l-a pus mai-mare peste(F) casa lui şi i-a încredinţat tot ce avea. 5 De îndată ce Potifar l-a pus mai-mare peste casa lui şi peste tot ce avea, Domnul a binecuvântat(G) casa egipteanului din pricina lui Iosif, şi binecuvântarea Domnului a fost peste tot ce avea el: fie acasă, fie la câmp. 6 Egipteanul a lăsat pe mâinile lui Iosif tot ce avea şi n-avea altă grijă decât să mănânce şi să bea. Dar Iosif era frumos la statură(H) şi plăcut la chip.

7 După câtăva vreme, s-a întâmplat că nevasta stăpânului său a pus ochii pe Iosif şi a zis: „Culcă-te(I) cu mine!” 8 El n-a voit şi a zis nevestei stăpânului său: „Vezi că stăpânul meu nu-mi cere socoteală de nimic din casă şi mi-a dat pe mână tot ce are. 9 El nu este mai mare decât mine în casa aceasta şi nu mi-a oprit nimic, afară de tine, pentru că eşti nevasta lui. Cum(J) aş putea să fac eu un rău atât de mare şi să păcătuiesc(K) împotriva lui Dumnezeu?” 10 Măcar că ea vorbea în toate zilele lui Iosif, el n-a voit să se culce şi să se împreune cu ea. 11 Într-o zi, când intrase în casă ca să-şi facă lucrul şi când nu era acolo niciunul din oamenii casei, 12 ea(L) l-a apucat de haină, zicând: „Culcă-te cu mine!” El i-a lăsat haina în mână şi a fugit afară din casă. 13 Când a văzut ea că-i lăsase haina în mână şi fugise afară, 14 a chemat oamenii din casă şi le-a zis: „Vedeţi, ne-a adus un evreu ca să-şi bată joc de noi! Omul acesta a venit la mine ca să se culce cu mine, dar eu am ţipat în gura mare. 15 Şi, când a văzut că ridic glasul şi strig, şi-a lăsat haina lângă mine şi a fugit afară.” 16 Şi a pus haina lui Iosif lângă ea până s-a întors acasă stăpânul lui. 17 Atunci i-a vorbit(M) astfel: „Robul acela evreu, pe care ni l-ai adus, a venit la mine ca să-şi bată joc de mine. 18 Şi cum am ridicat glasul şi am ţipat, şi-a lăsat haina lângă mine şi a fugit afară.” 19 După ce a auzit cuvintele nevestei sale, care-i zicea: „Iată ce mi-a făcut robul tău”, stăpânul lui Iosif s-a mâniat(N) foarte tare. 20 A luat pe Iosif şi l-a aruncat(O) în temniţă(P) în locul unde erau închişi întemniţaţii împăratului, şi astfel Iosif a stat acolo, în temniţă.

21 Domnul a fost cu Iosif şi Şi-a întins bunătatea peste el. L-a făcut(Q) să capete trecere înaintea mai-marelui temniţei. 22 Şi mai-marele temniţei a pus(R) sub privegherea lui pe toţi întemniţaţii care erau în temniţă. Şi nimic nu se făcea acolo decât prin el. 23 Mai-marele temniţei nu se mai îngrijea de nimic din ce avea Iosif în mână, pentru că Domnul(S) era cu el. Şi Domnul îi dădea izbândă în tot ce făcea.
