7 以利沙說：“你們要聽耶和華的話。耶和華這樣說：‘明日大約這個時候，在撒瑪利亞的城門，三公斤麵粉只賣十一克銀子，六公斤大麥也只是賣十一克銀子。’” 2 但那攙扶王的官長回答神人，說：“即使耶和華在天上開了窗戶，也不會有這事發生。”以利沙說：“看哪，你要親眼看見，卻吃不著。”
亞蘭軍撤退
3 有四個痲風病人在城門口那裡，他們彼此說：“我們為甚麼坐在這裡等死呢？ 4 我們如果說：‘我們進城去吧！’城裡正有饑荒，我們就要死在那裡。我們如果坐在這裡，也是要死。現在，讓我們去投降亞蘭人的軍隊吧；如果他們饒我們一命，我們就可以活著；如果他們要殺死我們，我們就死吧。” 5 於是他們在黃昏動身去到亞蘭人的軍營那裡；他們來到亞蘭人的軍營外邊，竟看不見一個人在那裡。 6 因為主使亞蘭人的軍隊聽見戰車、戰馬和大軍的聲音；他們就彼此說：“看哪，一定是以色列王雇用了赫人的眾王和埃及人的眾王來攻擊我們。” 7 於是他們在黃昏的時候起來逃跑，他們丟下他們的帳幕，他們的馬匹和他們的驢子；軍營仍在那裡，他們卻只顧逃命去了。 8 這些患痲風病的人來到軍營的外邊，他們進入其中一座帳幕，又吃又喝，並且從那裡取去金子、銀子和衣服，然後離去，把東西收藏起來。他們再回去，進入另一座帳幕，從那裡拿走財物，去收藏起來。
四個痲風病人報信
9 他們彼此說：“我們這樣作是不對的。今天是報好消息的日子，我們竟不出聲，如果我們等到早上天亮，我們就算為有罪了。現在，來吧，我們要去通知王家。” 10 他們就去呼喊守城門的，告訴他們說：“我們去過亞蘭人的軍營那裡，看見那裡一個人也沒有，也沒有人聲。只有馬仍拴著，驢仍拴著，帳幕都原封不動。” 11 守城門的就喊叫起來，又往城內給王家報信。 12 王在夜間起來，對他的臣僕說：“我告訴你們亞蘭人對我們所作的是怎麼一回事。他們知道我們鬧饑荒，所以出到軍營外在田野埋伏，心裡說：‘他們必從城裡出來。我們就可以活捉他們，進入城裡去了。’” 13 他的一位臣僕回答，說：“請叫人拉五匹剩下的馬來；看哪，牠們像所有剩下在這裡的以色列人，都要像所有死去的以色列人一樣；讓我們打發人去看看吧。” 14 於是他們取了兩輛戰車和馬匹，王差人去追蹤亞蘭軍，吩咐他們：“去查看吧。” 15 他們就去追蹤亞蘭軍直到約旦河。看哪，沿途堆滿了衣物器具，就是亞蘭人在匆忙逃走時丟棄的。於是使者回去向王報告。
預言應驗

2 Dar ofiţerul pe braţul căruia se sprijinea regele i-a răspuns omului lui Dumnezeu:
– Nici dacă ar face Domnul ferestre în cer nu s-ar putea întâmpla un asemenea lucru.
– Vei vedea cu ochii tăi, i-a răspuns Elisei, dar tu nu vei mânca!

3 La intrarea porţii erau patru leproşi[d] care au zis unul către altul: „De ce să stăm aici până vom muri? 4 Dacă ar fi să intrăm în cetate vom muri din cauza foametei din cetate. Dacă vom sta aici, de asemenea, vom muri. Veniţi deci să ne predăm în tabăra arameilor. Dacă ne vor cruţa vom trăi, iar dacă ne vor ucide vom muri.“ 5 Şi astfel, în amurg, ei s-au ridicat şi s-au dus în tabăra arameilor. Dar când au ajuns la intrarea în tabără, au văzut că nu mai era nimeni acolo, 6 pentru că Domnul făcuse ca arameii să audă zgomot de cai şi care, întocmai ca vuietul unei mari oştiri, şi s-au gândit că regele lui Israel a plătit pe regii hitiţilor şi pe monarhii egiptenilor[e] ca să vină împotriva lor. 7 Astfel, în amurg, ei s-au ridicat şi au fugit părăsindu-şi corturile, caii şi măgarii. Au lăsat tabăra aşa cum era şi au fugit ca să-şi scape viaţa. 8 Când au ajuns la intrarea în tabără, aceşti leproşi au pătruns într-un cort. După ce au mâncat şi au băut, au luat de acolo argint, aur şi haine. Pe urmă s-au dus şi le-au ascuns. S-au întors şi au intrat într-un alt cort; au luat din el câteva lucruri, după care s-au dus şi le-au ascuns. 9 În cele din urmă şi-au zis unul altuia: „Nu este bine ce facem! Ziua aceasta este o zi a veştilor bune. Dacă vom tăcea şi vom aştepta până în zori, vom fi pedepsiţi. Să mergem şi să anunţăm la palat!“
10 Au venit deci, au chemat străjerii de la poarta cetăţii şi le-au zis: „Noi am intrat în tabăra arameilor şi am văzut că nu era nimeni; nu se auzea nici un glas de om, ci erau doar cai şi măgari legaţi, iar corturile erau la locul lor.“ 11 Atunci străjerii au strigat şi au dat de ştire la palat. 12 Regele s-a trezit în toiul nopţii şi le-a zis slujitorilor săi:
– Vă voi spune ce vor să ne facă arameii. Ştiind că suntem înfometaţi, au ieşit din tabără şi s-au ascuns în câmpie, zicând: „Când vor ieşi din cetate, îi vom prinde vii şi vom intra în cetate!“
13 Unul dintre slujitorii lui i-a răspuns:
– Dă-ne voie să luăm cinci cai din cei care au mai rămas în cetate. Dacă vor rămâne aici, li se va întâmpla acelaşi lucru care i se întâmplă acum întregii mulţimi a lui Israel, adică vor pieri aşa cum piere toată mulţimea lui Israel. Să trimitem deci şi să vedem ce s-a întâmplat.
14 Au luat două care cu caii lor şi regele i-a trimis pe urmele oştirii Aramului, spunându-le: „Duceţi-vă şi vedeţi ce s-a întâmplat.“ 15 Au mers pe urma lor până la Iordan şi iată că tot drumul era plin cu haine şi cu lucruri pe care le aruncaseră arameii în goana lor. Mesagerii s-au întors şi l-au înştiinţat pe rege. 16 Apoi poporul a ieşit şi a jefuit tabăra arameilor. O măsură de făină a ajuns să se vândă cu un şechel, iar două măsuri de orz – cu un şechel, după Cuvântul Domnului.
17 Regele încredinţase paza porţii ofiţerului pe mâna căruia se sprijinea, dar acesta a murit călcat în picioare de poporul de la poartă, după cuvântul rostit de omul lui Dumnezeu când venise regele la el. 18 S-a împlinit întocmai cum i-a profeţit omul lui Dumnezeu regelui, când a zis: „Mâine, pe vremea aceasta, se va vinde la poarta Samariei o măsură de făină cu un şechel şi două măsuri de orz cu un şechel.“ 19 Atunci ofiţerul regelui îi spusese omului lui Dumnezeu: „Nici dacă ar face Domnul ferestre în cer nu s-ar putea întâmpla un asemenea lucru.“ Iar omul lui Dumnezeu îi răspunsese: „Vei vedea cu ochii tăi, dar tu nu vei mânca din ele.“ 20 Şi într-adevăr aşa i s-a şi întâmplat! 7 Elisha replied, “Hear the word of the Lord. This is what the Lord says: About this time tomorrow, a seah[a] of the finest flour will sell for a shekel[b] and two seahs[c] of barley for a shekel(A) at the gate of Samaria.”
2 The officer on whose arm the king was leaning(B) said to the man of God, “Look, even if the Lord should open the floodgates(C) of the heavens, could this happen?”
“You will see it with your own eyes,” answered Elisha, “but you will not eat(D) any of it!”
The Siege Lifted
3 Now there were four men with leprosy[d](E) at the entrance of the city gate. They said to each other, “Why stay here until we die? 4 If we say, ‘We’ll go into the city’—the famine is there, and we will die. And if we stay here, we will die. So let’s go over to the camp of the Arameans and surrender. If they spare us, we live; if they kill us, then we die.”
5 At dusk they got up and went to the camp of the Arameans. When they reached the edge of the camp, no one was there, 6 for the Lord had caused the Arameans to hear the sound(F) of chariots and horses and a great army, so that they said to one another, “Look, the king of Israel has hired(G) the Hittite(H) and Egyptian kings to attack us!” 7 So they got up and fled(I) in the dusk and abandoned their tents and their horses and donkeys. They left the camp as it was and ran for their lives.
8 The men who had leprosy(J) reached the edge of the camp, entered one of the tents and ate and drank. Then they took silver, gold and clothes, and went off and hid them. They returned and entered another tent and took some things from it and hid them also.
9 Then they said to each other, “What we’re doing is not right. This is a day of good news and we are keeping it to ourselves. If we wait until daylight, punishment will overtake us. Let’s go at once and report this to the royal palace.”
10 So they went and called out to the city gatekeepers and told them, “We went into the Aramean camp and no one was there—not a sound of anyone—only tethered horses and donkeys, and the tents left just as they were.” 11 The gatekeepers shouted the news, and it was reported within the palace.
12 The king got up in the night and said to his officers, “I will tell you what the Arameans have done to us. They know we are starving; so they have left the camp to hide(K) in the countryside, thinking, ‘They will surely come out, and then we will take them alive and get into the city.’”
13 One of his officers answered, “Have some men take five of the horses that are left in the city. Their plight will be like that of all the Israelites left here—yes, they will only be like all these Israelites who are doomed. So let us send them to find out what happened.”
14 So they selected two chariots with their horses, and the king sent them after the Aramean army. He commanded the drivers, “Go and find out what has happened.” 15 They followed them as far as the Jordan, and they found the whole road strewn with the clothing and equipment the Arameans had thrown away in their headlong flight.(L) So the messengers returned and reported to the king. 16 Then the people went out and plundered(M) the camp of the Arameans. So a seah of the finest flour sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley sold for a shekel,(N) as the Lord had said.
17 Now the king had put the officer on whose arm he leaned in charge of the gate, and the people trampled him in the gateway, and he died,(O) just as the man of God had foretold when the king came down to his house. 18 It happened as the man of God had said to the king: “About this time tomorrow, a seah of the finest flour will sell for a shekel and two seahs of barley for a shekel at the gate of Samaria.”
19 The officer had said to the man of God, “Look, even if the Lord should open the floodgates(P) of the heavens, could this happen?” The man of God had replied, “You will see it with your own eyes, but you will not eat any of it!” 20 And that is exactly what happened to him, for the people trampled him in the gateway, and he died.
