摩西出生
2 有一个利未族人跟他同族的女子结婚。 2 那女子怀孕，生了一个男婴。她看见孩子可爱，就把他藏了三个月。 3 后来无法再藏下去，她就拿来一个蒲草篮子，外面涂上防水的沥青和柏油，然后把婴儿放在里面，又把篮子放在尼罗河边的芦苇丛中。 4 婴儿的姐姐远远地站着，要看看她的弟弟究竟会怎样。
5 这时，法老的女儿来到河边沐浴，宫女们在河边行走。公主发现了芦苇丛中的篮子，便吩咐一个婢女去把它取来。 6 公主打开一看，原来是一个男婴。公主看见孩子在哭，就可怜他，说：“他是希伯来人的孩子。” 7 婴儿的姐姐对公主说：“我去找一个希伯来妇女当奶妈，为你哺养他好吗？” 8 公主回答说：“好！”那女孩就跑去把婴孩的母亲带来。 9 公主对那妇女说：“你把孩子抱去，替我哺养他，我会给你工钱。”她便把孩子抱去哺养。 10 孩子渐渐长大，她便把他带到公主那里，孩子就做了公主的儿子。公主给孩子取名叫摩西，意思是“我把他从水中拉了上来”。
11 后来，摩西长大了，他去看望做苦工的希伯来同胞，看见一个埃及人在殴打他的一个希伯来同胞。 12 他左右观望，见四下无人，便下手杀了那埃及人，把尸体埋藏在沙地里。 13 第二天，他又出去，看见两个希伯来人在打架，便过去对理亏的人说：“你为什么打自己的同胞呢？” 14 那人说：“你以为你是谁啊？谁立你做我们的首领和审判官？难道你要杀我，像杀那个埃及人一样吗？”摩西听了，害怕起来，心想：“我做的事一定被人知道了。” 15 法老听说这件事后，便想杀死摩西。摩西为了躲避法老，就逃到米甸居住。一天他坐在一口井旁， 16 米甸祭司的七个女儿来打水，要把水倒进槽里饮她们父亲的羊。 17 这时，来了另外一群牧人要把她们赶走。摩西便起来帮助她们，打水饮她们的羊群。 18 她们回到父亲流珥[a]那里，父亲问她们：“你们今天怎么这么快就回来了？” 19 她们答道：“有一个埃及人救我们免遭牧人的欺负，还帮我们打水饮羊群。” 20 他又问女儿们：“现在那人在哪里？你们怎么可以丢下他不管呢？去请他来吃点东西。” 21 后来，摩西同意住在那人家里。那人把女儿西坡拉许配给他。 22 后来，西坡拉生了一个儿子，摩西给他取名叫革舜，意思是“我成了在异乡寄居的人”。
23 过了多年，埃及王死了。以色列人受尽奴役，就哀叹呼求，声音传到上帝那里。 24 上帝听见他们的哀声，顾念从前跟亚伯拉罕、以撒、雅各所立的约， 25 就垂顾他们，体恤他们。

2 Now [Amram] a man of the house of Levi [the priestly tribe] went and took as his wife [Jochebed] a daughter of Levi.(A)
2 And the woman became pregnant and bore a son; and when she saw that he was [exceedingly] beautiful, she hid him three months.(B)
3 And when she could no longer hide him, she took for him an ark or basket made of bulrushes or papyrus [making it watertight by] daubing it with bitumen and pitch. Then she put the child in it and laid it among the rushes by the brink of the river [Nile].
4 And his sister [Miriam] stood some distance away to [a]learn what would be done to him.
5 Now the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river, and her maidens walked along the bank; she saw the ark among the rushes and sent her maid to fetch it.
6 When she opened it, she saw the child; and behold, the baby cried. And she took pity on him and said, This is one of the Hebrews’ children!
7 Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, Shall I go and call a nurse of the Hebrew women to nurse the child for you?
8 Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, Go. And the girl went and called the child’s mother.
9 Then Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, Take this child away and nurse it for me, and I will give you your wages. So the woman took the child and nursed it.
10 And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter and he became her son. And she called him Moses, for she said, Because I drew him out of the water.
11 One day, after Moses was grown, it happened that he went out to his brethren and looked at their burdens; and he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of [Moses’] brethren.
12 He looked this way and that way, and when he saw no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.
13 He went out the second day and saw two Hebrew men quarreling and fighting; and he said to the unjust aggressor, Why are you striking your comrade?
14 And the man said, Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian? Then Moses was afraid and thought, Surely this thing is known.
15 When Pharaoh heard of it, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from Pharaoh’s presence and [b]took refuge in the land of Midian, where he sat down by a well.
16 Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters, and they came and drew water and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.
17 The shepherds came and drove them away; but Moses stood up and helped them and watered their flock.
18 And when they came to Reuel [Jethro] their father, he said, How is it that you have come so soon today?
19 They said, An Egyptian delivered us from the shepherds; also he drew water for us and watered the flock.
20 He said to his daughters, Where is he? Why have you left the man? Call him, that he may eat bread.
21 And Moses was content to dwell with the man; and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.
22 And she bore a son, and he called his name Gershom [expulsion, or a stranger there]; for he said, I have been a stranger and a sojourner in a foreign land.
23 However, after a long time [nearly forty years] the king of Egypt died; and the Israelites were sighing and groaning because of the bondage. They kept crying, and their cry because of slavery ascended to God.
24 And God heard their sighing and groaning and [earnestly] remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
25 God saw the Israelites and took knowledge of them and concerned Himself about them [knowing all, understanding, remembering all].(C)

- Exodus 2:4 They launched the ark not only on the Nile but on God’s providence. He would be Captain, Steersman, and Convoy of the tiny ark. Miriam stood to watch. There was no fear of fatal consequences, only the quiet expectancy that God would do something worthy of Himself. They reckoned on God’s faithfulness and they were amply rewarded when the daughter of their greatest foe became the babe’s patroness (F. B. Meyer, Through the Bible Day by Day).

2 Có một người thuộc họ Lê-vi, kết hôn với một cô gái cũng thuộc họ Lê-vi. 2 Nàng mang thai và sinh một bé trai. Thấy con mình kháu khỉnh, nên đem giấu nó suốt ba tháng. 3 Sau ba tháng, thấy không thể giấu được nữa, nàng lấy một cái thúng trét nhựa để nó nổi trên nước. Nàng đặt đứa bé vào thúng rồi thả trong đám lau sậy dọc theo bờ sông Nin. 4 Chị đứa bé đứng xa xa nhìn, để theo dõi mọi việc.
5 Lúc đó công chúa Ai-cập xuống sông tắm, còn các đầy tớ gái thì đi dọc theo bờ sông. Nàng thấy cái thúng trong đám lau sậy, liền sai các đầy tớ gái đến lấy. 6 Khi mở thúng ra, công chúa thấy một bé trai đang khóc nên động lòng thương. Nàng nói, “Đây là một trong những con của người Do-thái [a].”
7 Lúc đó chị của đứa bé hỏi công chúa, “Cô có muốn cháu đi kêu một người đàn bà Do-thái để nuôi nó không?”
8 Công chúa đáp, “Ừ, em đi kiếm giùm tôi đi.”
Nên cô đi kêu mẹ đứa trẻ.
9 Công chúa bảo người đàn bà, “Chị hãy nuôi đứa bé nầy cho tôi, tôi sẽ trả công cho chị.”
Nên người đàn bà mang đứa nhỏ về nuôi. 10 Khi đứa nhỏ đã lớn, người đàn bà mang nó vào cho công chúa. Công chúa nhận nó làm con nuôi và đặt tên là Mô-se [b], vì nàng đã vớt nó ra khỏi nước.
Mô-se muốn giúp đồng bào mình
11 Mô-se lớn lên, rồi trưởng thành. Một ngày nọ ông đi thăm dân mình, thì thấy họ bị bắt buộc làm việc rất cực nhọc. Ông thấy một người Ai-cập đánh một người Do-thái là đồng bào mình. 12 Nhìn quanh quất không thấy ai, ông liền giết người Ai-cập rồi vùi xác trong cát.
13 Hôm sau Mô-se trở lại thấy hai người Do-thái đang đánh nhau. Ông bảo người có lỗi rằng, “Sao anh đánh đồng bào ruột thịt của mình?”
14 Người đó trả lời, “Ai cử anh làm quan cai trị và thẩm phán cho chúng tôi? Bộ anh muốn giết tôi như đã giết người Ai-cập hôm qua sao?”
Nghe vậy, Mô-se đâm hoảng và nghĩ thầm, “Thôi chết, mọi người biết hết chuyện tôi làm rồi!”
Mô-se cư ngụ trong xứ Mi-đi-an
15 Khi vua nghe việc Mô-se làm, thì tìm cách giết ông. Mô-se liền chạy trốn khỏi xứ Ai-cập và đến sinh sống trong xứ Mi-đi-an. Tới nơi rồi, ông ngồi cạnh một giếng nước. 16 Ở Mi-đi-an có một thầy tế lễ có bảy cô con gái. Các cô ấy đi đến giếng lấy nước để đổ vào máng cho bầy gia súc của cha mình uống. 17 Có mấy chú chăn chiên đến đuổi các cô đi, nên Mô-se ra tay bênh vực các cô và lấy nước cho bầy gia súc của cha các cô uống.
18 Khi các cô về nhà cha mình, là Rêu-ên [c], thì ông hỏi, “Sao hôm nay các con về sớm vậy?”
19 Các cô đáp, “Có một ông người Ai-cập bênh vực chúng con khỏi bọn chăn chiên. Ông ta lấy nước và cho súc vật uống giùm chúng con.”
20 Người cha hỏi, “Ông ta đâu rồi? Sao các con bỏ ông ta ngoài đó vậy? Mời ông ta vào dùng bữa với chúng ta.”
21 Mô-se bằng lòng ở lại với ông ấy. Ông gả con gái mình là Xíp-bô-ra cho Mô-se làm vợ. 22 Nàng sinh ra một con trai. Mô-se đặt tên là Ghẹt-sôn [d], vì ông đang sống ở nước ngoài.
Thượng Đế quyết định giúp đỡ người Ít-ra-en
23 Sau đó khá lâu, vua Ai-cập qua đời. Dân Ít-ra-en than van vì họ bị bắt buộc làm việc quá nhọc nhằn. Khi họ kêu xin, Thượng Đế nghe tiếng họ. 24 Ngài nghe tiếng than khóc của họ và nhớ lại giao ước Ngài lập với Áp-ra-ham, Y-sác và Gia-cốp. 25 Ngài thấy nỗi cực nhọc của dân Ít-ra-en và ái ngại cho họ.
