Frogs Cover the Land
8 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘The Lord says this: “Let My people go, so they may worship Me. 2 But if you will not let them go, I will bring trouble to your whole country with frogs. 3 The Nile will be full of frogs. They will come up and go in your house and in your room and on your bed. They will come in the houses of your servants and on your people. They will come in your stoves and in your bread dough. 4 The frogs will come up on you and your people and all your servants.”’” 5 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Put out your hand with your special stick over the rivers and over the pools. Make frogs come up on the land of Egypt.’” 6 So Aaron put his hand out over the waters of Egypt. And the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt. 7 But the wonder-workers did the same thing using their secret ways. They made frogs come up on the land of Egypt.
Frogs Destroyed
8 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron and said, “You pray to the Lord to take the frogs away from me and my people. And I will let the people go, so they may give a gift in worship to the Lord.” 9 Moses said to Pharaoh, “The honor is yours to tell me when I should pray for you and your servants and your people, that the frogs may be sent away from you and your houses and stay only in the Nile.”
10 Pharaoh said, “Tomorrow.” And Moses said, “May it be as you say. You will know that there is no one like the Lord our God. 11 The frogs will go away from you and your houses and your servants and your people. They will stay only in the Nile.” 12 Then Moses and Aaron went away from Pharaoh. And Moses cried to the Lord about the frogs that He had brought against Pharaoh. 13 The Lord did as Moses said. The frogs died in and around the houses and the fields. 14 The people gathered them together, and the land had a bad smell. 15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was rest from the trouble, he made his heart hard. He did not listen to them, just as the Lord had said.
Dust Turned to Lice
16 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Put out your special stick and hit the dust of the earth. It will become lice through all the land of Egypt.’” 17 And they did so. Aaron put out his hand with his stick and hit the dust of the earth. And there were lice on man and animal. All the dust of the earth became lice through all the land of Egypt. 18 The wonder-workers tried to cause lice to come by using their secret ways. But they could not. So there were lice on man and animal. 19 Then the wonder-workers said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart was hard. He did not listen to them, just as the Lord had said.
Flies Cover All the Land
20 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Get up early in the morning and wait for Pharaoh as he goes out to the water. Say to him, ‘The Lord says this: “Let My people go, so they may worship Me. 21 For if you will not let My people go, I will send many flies upon you and upon your servants and upon your people and into your houses. The houses of the Egyptians will be full of flies, and also the ground will be covered with them. 22 But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen where My people are living so no flies will be there. Then you may know that I, the Lord, am in the land. 23 I will divide My people from your people. Tomorrow you will see this happen.”’” 24 And the Lord did so. And there came a great many flies flying all over inside the house of the Pharaoh and in the houses of his servants. The land was destroyed because of the many flies in all the land of Egypt.
25 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron and said, “Go and give a gift in worship to your God here in the land.” 26 But Moses said, “It is not right to do this. For the Egyptians hate what we would give in worship to the Lord our God. If the Egyptians see us giving this gift and doing what they think is sinful, will they not throw stones at us? 27 We must travel three days to the desert and give a gift in worship to the Lord our God, as He tells us to do.”
28 So Pharaoh said, “I will let you go, so you may give a gift to the Lord your God. But do not go very far away. Pray for me.” 29 Then Moses said, “I am leaving you. I will pray to the Lord that the many flies may leave Pharaoh and his servants and his people tomorrow. But do not let Pharaoh lie again by not letting the people go to give a gift on an altar to the Lord.”
The Flies Are Destroyed
30 So Moses left Pharaoh and prayed to the Lord. 31 And the Lord did as Moses asked. He took the many flies away from Pharaoh and his servants and his people. Not one was left. 32 But Pharaoh made his heart hard this time also. He did not let the people go.

The Second Plague: Frogs
8 And the Lord spoke to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Let My people go, (A)that they may serve Me. 2 But if you (B)refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all your territory with (C)frogs. 3 So the river shall bring forth frogs abundantly, which shall go up and come into your house, into your (D)bedroom, on your bed, into the houses of your servants, on your people, into your ovens, and into your kneading bowls. 4 And the frogs shall come up on you, on your people, and on all your servants.” ’ ”
5 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, “Say to Aaron, (E)‘Stretch out your hand with your rod over the streams, over the rivers, and over the ponds, and cause frogs to come up on the land of Egypt.’ ” 6 So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and (F)the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt. 7 (G)And the magicians did so with their [a]enchantments, and brought up frogs on the land of Egypt.
8 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, (H)“Entreat[b] the Lord that He may take away the frogs from me and from my people; and I will let the people (I)go, that they may sacrifice to the Lord.”
9 And Moses said to Pharaoh, “Accept the honor of saying when I shall intercede for you, for your servants, and for your people, to destroy the frogs from you and your houses, that they may remain in the river only.”
10 So he said, “Tomorrow.” And he said, “Let it be according to your word, that you may know that (J)there is no one like the Lord our God. 11 And the frogs shall depart from you, from your houses, from your servants, and from your people. They shall remain in the river only.”
12 Then Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh. And Moses (K)cried out to the Lord concerning the frogs which He had brought against Pharaoh. 13 So the Lord did according to the word of Moses. And the frogs died out of the houses, out of the courtyards, and out of the fields. 14 They gathered them together in heaps, and the land stank. 15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was (L)relief, (M)he hardened his heart and did not heed them, as the Lord had said.
The Third Plague: Lice
16 So the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Stretch out your rod, and strike the dust of the land, so that it may become [c]lice throughout all the land of Egypt.’ ” 17 And they did so. For Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod and struck the dust of the earth, and (N)it became lice on man and beast. All the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt.
18 Now (O)the magicians so worked with their [d]enchantments to bring forth lice, but they (P)could not. So there were lice on man and beast. 19 Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is (Q)the[e] finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s (R)heart grew hard, and he did not heed them, just as the Lord had said.
The Fourth Plague: Flies
20 And the Lord said to Moses, (S)“Rise early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh as he comes out to the water. Then say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord: (T)“Let My people go, that they may serve Me. 21 Or else, if you will not let My people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies on you and your servants, on your people and into your houses. The houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground on which they stand. 22 And in that day (U)I will set apart the land of (V)Goshen, in which My people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there, in order that you may (W)know that I am the Lord in the midst of the (X)land. 23 I will [f]make a difference between My people and your people. Tomorrow this (Y)sign shall be.” ’ ” 24 And the Lord did so. (Z)Thick swarms of flies came into the house of Pharaoh, into his servants’ houses, and into all the land of Egypt. The land was corrupted because of the swarms of flies.
25 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God in the land.”
26 And Moses said, “It is not right to do so, for we would be sacrificing (AA)the abomination of the Egyptians to the Lord our God. If we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, then will they not [g]stone us? 27 We will go (AB)three days’ journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the Lord our God as (AC)He will command us.”
28 So Pharaoh said, “I will let you go, that you may sacrifice to the Lord your God in the wilderness; only you shall not go very far away. (AD)Intercede for me.”
29 Then Moses said, “Indeed I am going out from you, and I will entreat the Lord, that the swarms of flies may depart tomorrow from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people. But let Pharaoh not (AE)deal deceitfully anymore in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the Lord.”
30 So Moses went out from Pharaoh and (AF)entreated the Lord. 31 And the Lord did according to the word of Moses; He removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people. Not one remained. 32 But Pharaoh (AG)hardened his heart at this time also; neither would he let the people go.

8 Herren sa till Mose: ”Gå tillbaka till farao och säg så här: ’Så säger Herren: Låt mitt folk gå och hålla gudstjänst åt mig. 2 Om du vägrar och inte vill släppa folket, ska jag låta hela landet drabbas av grodor. 3 Nilen ska vimla av dem, och de ska komma upp på land, in i ditt palats, i ditt sovrum och upp i din säng, i dina hovmäns hus och ditt folks hus, i dina bakugnar och baktråg. 4 Grodorna ska klättra på dig och på ditt folk och dina hovmän.’ ”
5 Herren sa till Mose: ”Säg till Aron att räcka ut sin hand med staven över alla floder, bäckar och dammar i Egypten, så att det kommer grodor över hela landet.”
6 Aron räckte då ut sin hand över vattnen i Egypten, och grodorna täckte hela landet. 7 Men magikerna gjorde samma sak genom sina hemliga konster och lät grodor komma över Egypten.
8 Då kallade farao till sig Mose och Aron: ”Be till Herren att han tar bort grodorna, så ska jag låta folket gå för att offra åt honom.”
9 ”Du ska själv få bestämma den tidpunkt då du vill att jag ska be för dig, dina hovmän och ditt folk”, sa Mose till farao, ”så att grodorna försvinner från dig och dina hus, och blir bara kvar i Nilen.”
10 ”Gör det imorgon”, sa farao. ”Det ska bli som du vill”, svarade Mose”, för att du ska inse att ingen är lik Herren, vår Gud. 11 Alla grodor ska försvinna från dig och dina hus och dina hovmän och ditt folk och bara bli kvar i Nilen.”
12 Mose och Aron lämnade farao och Mose ropade till Herren att ta bort grodorna som han hade sänt över farao. 13 Herren gjorde som Mose bad honom och det låg döda grodor i alla hus, på gårdarna och på fälten. 14 De samlades ihop i stora högar och det blev en stank över hela landet. 15 Men när farao såg att hemsökelsen var över, blev han hård på nytt och vägrade att släppa folket, så som Herren hade sagt.
Myggsvärmar
16 Då sa Herren till Mose: ”Säg till Aron att slå på markens stoft med sin stav, så ska det komma mygg över hela Egypten.” 17 Mose och Aron gjorde som Herren hade befallt, och när Aron slog med staven på marken kom det mygg som satte sig på människor och djur. Allt stoft på marken i hela Egypten blev till mygg. 18 Magikerna försökte göra samma sak genom sina hemliga konster, frambringa mygg, men den här gången misslyckades de. Myggorna fanns överallt på människor och djur.
19 ”Detta är Guds finger”, sa de till farao. Men farao var lika hård. Han ville inte lyssna på Mose och Aron, så som Herren hade sagt.
Flugsvärmar
20 Därefter sa Herren till Mose: ”Gå upp tidigt på morgonen så att du möter farao när han går till floden, och säg då till honom: ’Så säger Herren: Låt mitt folk gå och fira gudstjänst inför mig! 21 Om du vägrar, ska jag sända flugsvärmar över dig och dina hovmän, ditt folk och dina hus. Husen i Egypten ska bli uppfyllda av dem, och marken ska vara täckt av dem.
22 Landet Goshen däremot, där mitt folk bor, ska jag behandla annorlunda. Där ska det inte finnas några flugsvärmar, för att du ska inse att jag, Herren, är här i landet. 23 Jag ska göra skillnad mellan ditt folk och mitt och detta tecken kommer att ske imorgon.’ ”
24 Herren gjorde som han hade sagt. Det blev fruktansvärda svärmar av flugor i faraos palats och i hans hovmäns hus och hela Egypten drabbades.
25 Farao kallade då till sig Mose och Aron och sa: ”Gå och offra åt er Gud, men gör det här i landet.”
26 Mose svarade: ”Det går inte. Egypterna skulle avsky om vi offrade till Herren, vår Gud, och offrar vi sådant som de avskyr här mitt framför ögonen på dem, kommer de säkert att stena oss. 27 Vi måste göra en tre dagars färd ut i öknen för att offra till Herren, vår Gud, så som han har befallt oss.”
28 ”Gå då”, svarade farao. ”Jag tillåter er att offra åt Herren, er Gud, i öknen, men gå inte alltför långt. Be för mig!”
29 ”Ja”, svarade Mose, ”så fort jag gått härifrån ska jag be att Herren låter flugsvärmarna försvinna från dig och dina hovmän och ditt folk. Men lura oss inte fler gånger, utan låt folket gå och offra åt Herren.”
30 Mose lämnade farao och bad till Herren. 31 Herren gjorde som Mose bad honom och lät flugsvärmarna försvinna från farao och hans hovmän och hans folk. Inte en enda fluga blev kvar. 32 Då gjorde farao sitt hjärta lika hårt igen och lät inte folket gå.
