十誡
20 以下是上帝的訓示：
2 「我是你的上帝耶和華，曾把你領出埃及，使你不再受奴役。
3 「除我以外，你不可有別的神。
4 「不可為自己雕刻神像，不可仿照任何飛禽走獸或水族的樣子造神像， 5 不可跪拜它們，也不可供奉它們，因為我——你的上帝耶和華痛恨不貞，我必追討背棄我之人的罪，從父到子直到三四代。 6 但那些愛我、遵守我誡命的人，我必以慈愛待他們，直到千代。
7 「不可妄用你上帝耶和華的名，違者必被耶和華定罪。
8 「要記住安息日，守為聖日。 9 你一週可工作六天， 10 但第七天是你的上帝耶和華的安息日，這一天你和兒女、僕婢、牲畜及你那裡的外族人不可做任何工。 11 因為耶和華用六天造了天、地、海和其中的萬物，第七天便休息了，所以耶和華賜福這日，把它定為聖日。
12 「要孝敬父母，以便在你的上帝耶和華賜給你的土地上享長壽。
13 「不可殺人。
14 「不可通姦。
15 「不可偷盜。
16 「不可作偽證陷害人。
17 「不可貪戀別人的房屋，不可貪戀別人的妻子、僕婢、牛驢或其他任何物品。」
18 那時雷電交加，號角嘹亮，山上冒煙，百姓看見此情景，都嚇得渾身顫抖，不敢挨近。 19 他們對摩西說：「求你跟我們說話，我們必聽從。不要讓上帝直接跟我們說話，恐怕我們會喪命！」 20 摩西對百姓說：「不用害怕，上帝降臨是要試驗你們，好讓你們時時敬畏祂，不致犯罪。」
21 百姓都站得遠遠的，摩西獨自走進上帝所在的密雲中。 22 耶和華吩咐摩西對以色列百姓說：「既然你們已經親眼看見我從天上向你們說話， 23 除了敬拜我之外，不可為自己製造金銀神像。 24 你們要為我築一座土壇，把你們的牛羊獻在壇上作燔祭和平安祭。凡是我使自己的名號被尊崇的地方，我會親臨那裡賜福給你們。 25 你們若為我築石壇，不可用鑿刻的石頭，因為用工具鑿刻的石頭會玷污祭壇。 26 不可踩著臺階登我的祭壇，免得露出你們的下體。

20 Toen verklaarde de Here: 2 ‘Ik ben de Here, uw God, die u uit de slavernij in Egypte heeft bevrijd.
3 U mag geen andere goden aanbidden dan Mij.
4 U mag geen beeld of afbeelding maken van wat boven in de hemel of beneden op de aarde, noch van wat in de wateren onder de aarde is.
5 U mag niet voor dergelijke beelden neerknielen of deze vereren, want Ik, de Here, ben een jaloerse God, die de zonden van de vaders toerekent aan de kinderen, kleinkinderen en achterkleinkinderen van hen die Mij haten.
6 Maar Ik ben liefdevol voor hen die van Mij houden en mijn wetten gehoorzamen.
7 U mag de naam van de Here, uw God, niet zonder goede reden gebruiken, want de Here zal degene die dat wel doet, zeker straffen.
8 Onderhoud de sabbat als een heilige dag.
9 Zes dagen moet u werken, 10 maar de zevende dag is de sabbat van de Here, een rustdag. Op die dag mag u niet werken. En dat geldt ook voor uw zonen, dochters, slaven—man of vrouw—vee en gasten. 11 Want in zes dagen heeft de Here de hemel, de aarde, de zee en alles wat daarin leeft, gemaakt en Hij rustte op de zevende dag. Daarom zegende de Here de sabbat en maakte er een bijzondere, heilige dag van.
12 Heb eerbied voor uw vader en uw moeder, dan krijgt u een lang en goed leven in het land dat de Here, uw God, u zal geven.
13 U mag niemand doodslaan.
14 U mag geen overspel plegen.
15 U mag niet stelen.
16 Beschuldig niemand op valse gronden.
17 U mag het huis van uw naaste niet begeren en ook zijn vrouw niet, zijn slaaf, zijn slavin, zijn rund en zijn ezel of iets anders dat het eigendom is van uw naaste.’
18 Het hele volk hoorde de donderslagen, zag de bliksemstralen en hoorde het bazuingeschal op de rokende berg. Iedereen stond op een eerbiedige afstand en trilde van angst. 19 Zij zeiden tegen Mozes: ‘Vertelt u ons maar wat God van ons wil, want als Hij rechtstreeks tegen ons spreekt, zullen wij vast en zeker sterven!’ 20 ‘Wees niet bang,’ zei Mozes, ‘want de Here heeft hier zijn kracht laten zien, zodat u zich voortaan wel zult bedenken voordat u tegen Hem zondigt!’
21 Terwijl het volk op een veilige afstand bleef, liep Mozes naar de berg en betrad de duisternis waarin God Zich bevond. 22 Toen zei de Here tegen Mozes: ‘Dit moet u aan de Israëlieten doorgeven: “U hebt gezien dat Ik vanuit de hemel heb gesproken. U mag naast Mij geen andere goden aanbidden. 23 Maak nooit afgoden van goud, zilver of enig ander materiaal.
24 De altaren die u voor Mij bouwt, moeten van gewone aarde zijn. Daarop kunt u brandoffers en vredeoffers met schapen en runderen brengen. Op elke plaats waar Ik mijn naam laat vereren, zal Ik bij u komen en u zegenen. 25 U mag wel altaren van steen voor Mij bouwen, maar dan mogen het geen uitgehouwen stenen zijn. Want door de bewerking met gereedschappen worden de stenen ontwijd. 26 Als u een altaar bouwt, mag dat niet via een trap bereikbaar zijn, want dan zouden uw geslachtsdelen zichtbaar kunnen zijn.”

20 And God spake all these words, saying,
2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
13 Thou shalt not kill.
14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
15 Thou shalt not steal.
16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.
18 And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.
19 And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.
20 And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.
21 And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.
22 And the Lord said unto Moses, Thus thou shalt say unto the children of Israel, Ye have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.
23 Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold.
24 An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee.
25 And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.
26 Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon.
