12 那时，希律王下手苦害教会中的几个人， 2 用刀杀了约翰的哥哥雅各。 3 他见这事博得了犹太人的欢心，就在除酵节期间，再次捉拿彼得。 4 捉到了，就把他关在监里，交给四班士兵看守，每班四个人，打算过了逾越节，把他提出来交给民众。 5 彼得就这样被拘留在监里；但教会却为他迫切地祈求 神。
天使救彼得出监
6 希律要提他出来的前一夜，彼得被两条锁炼锁住，睡在两个士兵中间，还有卫兵守在门前。 7 忽然，有主的一位使者出现，牢房里就光芒四射。天使拍拍彼得的肋旁，唤醒他，说：“快起来！”他手上的锁炼就脱落了。 8 天使对他说：“束上带子，穿上鞋！”他就这样作了。天使又说：“披上外衣，跟我走！” 9 他就出来跟着天使走，但他不知道天使所作的事是真的，还以为是见了异象。 10 他们经过第一、第二两个岗位，来到通往城内的铁门，那门自动给他们开了。他们出来，往前走了一条街，天使立刻离开了他。 11 彼得清醒过来，说：“现在我确实知道，主差他的天使来，救我脱离希律的手和犹太人所期望的一切。” 12 他明白了之后，就到约翰（别名马可）的母亲马利亚家里去；有许多人聚集在那里祷告。 13 彼得敲了大门，有一个名叫罗大的使女，出来应门。 14 她认出是彼得的声音，欢喜到顾不得开门，就跑进去报告，说彼得站在门外。 15 大家说：“你疯了！”她却坚持地说这是真的。他们说：“一定是他的天使。” 16 彼得继续敲门；他们打开了，一见是他，就非常惊讶。 17 彼得作了一个手势，要他们安静，然后对他们述说主怎样领他出监，又说：“你们把这些事告诉雅各和众弟兄。”就离开那里，到别的地方去了。
18 天亮的时候，士兵们非常慌乱，不知彼得出了甚么事。 19 希律搜索他，却找不到，就审问卫兵，下令把他们带出去处死。后来希律离开犹太，到该撒利亚去，住在那里。

20 当时希律对推罗和西顿人怀怒在心。这两地的人因为他们的地区都需要从王的领土得到粮食，就先拉拢了王的内侍臣伯拉斯都，然后同心地去见希律，要向他求和。 21 到了定好的日期，希律穿上王服，坐在高台上，向他们演讲。 22 群众大声说：“这是 神的声音，不是人的声音！” 23 他不归荣耀给 神，所以主的使者立刻击打他，他被虫咬，就断了气。
24 神的道日渐兴旺，越发广传。 25 巴拿巴和扫罗完成了送交捐项的任务，就带著名叫马可的约翰，从耶路撒冷回来。

An Angel Frees Peter from Prison
12 Now about that time [a]Herod the king laid hands on some who belonged to the church in order to harm them. 2 And he (A)had James the brother of John (B)put to death with a sword. 3 And when he saw that it (C)pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also. Now [b]it was during (D)the days of Unleavened Bread. 4 When he had seized him, he put him in prison, delivering him to four [c](E)squads of soldiers to guard him, intending after (F)the Passover to bring him out before the people. 5 So Peter was kept in the prison, but prayer for him was being made fervently by the church to God.
6 Now on [d]the very night when Herod was about to bring him forward, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, (G)bound with two chains, and guards in front of the door were watching over the prison. 7 And behold, (H)an angel of the Lord suddenly (I)appeared and a light shone in the cell; and he struck Peter’s side and woke him up, saying, “Rise up quickly.” And (J)his chains fell off his hands. 8 And the angel said to him, “Gird yourself and [e]put on your sandals.” And he did so. And he *said to him, “Wrap your garment around yourself and follow me.” 9 And he went out and continued to follow, and he did not know that what was being done by the angel was real, but was thinking he was seeing (K)a vision. 10 And when they had passed the first and second guard posts, they came to the iron gate that leads into the city, which (L)opened for them by itself; and they went out and went along one street, and immediately the angel departed from him. 11 When Peter (M)came [f]to himself, he said, “Now truly I know that (N)the Lord has sent His angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod and from all [g]that the Jewish people were expecting.” 12 And when he realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of (O)John who was also called Mark, where many were gathered together and (P)were praying. 13 And when he knocked at the door of the gate, (Q)a servant-girl named Rhoda came to answer. 14 And when she recognized Peter’s voice, (R)because of her joy she did not open the gate. But she ran in and reported that Peter was standing in front of the gate. 15 And they said to her, “You are out of your mind!” But she kept insisting that it was so. They kept saying, “It is (S)his angel.” 16 But Peter continued knocking, and when they opened the door, they saw him and were astounded. 17 But (T)motioning to them with his hand to be silent, he recounted to them how the Lord had led him out of the prison. And he said, “Report these things to (U)James and (V)the brothers.” Then he left and went to another place.
18 Now when day came, there was no small disturbance among the soldiers as to what [h]had become of Peter. 19 And when Herod had searched for him and had not found him, he examined the guards and ordered that they (W)be led away to execution. Then he went down from Judea to (X)Caesarea and was spending time there.
The Death of Herod
20 Now he was very angry with the people of (Y)Tyre and Sidon; and with one accord they came to him, and having won over Blastus the king’s chamberlain, they were asking for peace, because (Z)their country was fed by the king’s country. 21 And on an appointed day Herod, having put on his royal apparel and sitting on the judgment seat, began delivering an address to them. 22 And the assembly kept crying out, “The voice of a god and not of a man!” 23 And immediately (AA)an angel of the [i]Lord struck him because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and breathed his last.
24 But (AB)the word of the Lord continued to grow and to be multiplied.
25 And (AC)Barnabas and (AD)Saul [j]returned [k]to Jerusalem, (AE)fulfilling their ministry, taking along with them (AF)John, who was also called Mark.

12 About that time King Herod cruelly attacked some who belonged to the church, 2 and he killed James,(A) John’s brother, with the sword. 3 When he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter too, during the days of Unleavened Bread.(B) 4 After the arrest, he put him in prison and assigned four squads of four soldiers each to guard him, intending to bring him out to the people after the Passover. 5 So Peter was kept in prison, but prayer was being made earnestly to God for him by the church.
Peter Rescued
6 On the night before Herod was to bring him out for execution, Peter, bound with two chains, was sleeping between two soldiers, while the sentries in front of the door guarded the prison. 7 Suddenly an angel of the Lord(C) appeared, and a light shone in the cell. Striking Peter on the side, he woke him up and said, “Quick, get up!” Then the chains fell off his wrists.(D) 8 “Get dressed,” the angel told him, “and put on your sandals.” And he did so. “Wrap your cloak around you,” he told him, “and follow me.” 9 So he went out and followed, and he did not know that what took place through the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision.(E) 10 After they passed the first and second guard posts, they came to the iron gate that leads into the city, which opened to them by itself. They went outside and passed one street, and immediately the angel left him.(F)
11 Then Peter came to himself and said, “Now I know for certain that the Lord has sent His angel and rescued me from Herod’s grasp and from all that the Jewish people expected.”(G) 12 When he realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John Mark,[a](H) where many had assembled and were praying. 13 He knocked at the door in the gateway, and a servant named Rhoda came to answer. 14 She recognized Peter’s voice, and because of her joy, she did not open the gate but ran in and announced that Peter was standing at the gateway.
15 “You’re crazy!” they told her. But she kept insisting that it was true. Then they said, “It’s his angel!”(I) 16 Peter, however, kept on knocking, and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astounded.
17 Motioning to them with his hand(J) to be silent, he explained to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. “Report these things to James[b](K) and the brothers,” he said. Then he departed and went to a different place.
18 At daylight, there was a great commotion[c] among the soldiers as to what could have become of Peter. 19 After Herod had searched and did not find him, he interrogated the guards and ordered their execution. Then Herod went down from Judea to Caesarea and stayed there.(L)
Herod’s Death
20 He had been very angry with the Tyrians and Sidonians.[d] Together they presented themselves before him. They won over Blastus, who was in charge of the king’s bedroom, and through him they asked for peace, because their country was supplied with food from the king’s country.(M) 21 So on an appointed day, dressed in royal robes and seated on the throne, Herod delivered a public address to them. 22 The assembled people began to shout, “It’s the voice of a god and not of a man!” 23 At once an angel of the Lord(N) struck him because he did not give the glory to God, and he became infected with worms and died.(O) 24 Then God’s message flourished and multiplied.(P) 25 After they had completed their relief mission, Barnabas and Saul returned to[e] Jerusalem, taking along John who is called Mark.(Q)

3 E, vedendo che questo era gradito ai Giudei, fece arrestare anche Pietro (or erano i giorni degli Azzimi).
4 Dopo averlo arrestato, lo mise in prigione e lo affidò alla custodia di quattro picchetti di quattro soldati ciascuno, intendendo di farlo comparire davanti al popolo dopo la Pasqua.
5 Ma, mentre Pietro era custodito nella prigione, continue orazioni a Dio erano fatte dalla chiesa per lui.
6 Or la notte, prima che Erode lo facesse comparire in pubblico, Pietro dormiva in mezzo a due soldati, legato con due catene; e le guardie davanti alla porta custodivano la prigione.
7 Ed ecco, un angelo del Signore sopraggiunse e una luce risplendette nella cella; e, percosso il fianco di Pietro, lo svegliò, dicendo: «Alzati in fretta!». E le catene gli caddero dalle mani.
8 Quindi l'angelo gli disse: «Cingiti allacciati i sandali». Ed egli fece così. Poi gli disse: «Avvolgiti nel mantello e seguimi».
9 E Pietro, uscito, lo seguiva senza rendersi conto che ciò che gli stava accadendo per mezzo dell'angelo fosse vero infatti egli pensava di avere una visione.
10 Ora, come oltrepassarono il primo e il secondo posto di guardia, giunsero alla porta di ferro che conduceva in città, ed essa si aprí da sé davanti a loro, e, usciti percorsero una strada, e all'improvviso l'angelo lo lasciò.
11 Quando rientrò in sé, Pietro disse: «Ora per certo riconosco che il Signore ha mandato il suo angelo e mi ha liberato dalle mani di Erode e ha resa vana tutta l'attesa del popolo dei Giudei».
12 Quando si rese conto della situazione, si recò alla casa di Maria, madre di Giovanni, soprannominato Marco, dove molti fratelli erano radunati e pregavano.
13 Appena Pietro bussò alla porta d'ingresso, una serva di nome Rode si avvicinò cautamente per ascoltare.
14 E, riconosciuta la voce di Pietro, per la gioia non aprí la porta, ma corse dentro e annunziò che Pietro stava davanti all'ingresso.
15 Ma essi le dissero: «Tu vaneggi». Ella però affermava che era cosí. E quelli dicevano: «E' il suo angelo».
16 Pietro intanto continuava a bussare. Or essi, avendo aperto, lo videro e sbigottirono.
17 Ma egli, fatto loro cenno con la mano di tacere, raccontò loro come il Signore lo aveva fatto uscire dalla prigione. Poi disse: «Riferite queste cose a Giacomo e ai fratelli». Poi uscí e si recò in un altro luogo.
18 Quando si fece giorno vi fu un gran subbuglio fra i soldati, perché non sapevano cosa fosse avvenuto di Pietro.
19 Ed Erode lo mandò a cercare ma non lo trovò e, dopo avere interrogato le guardie, comandò che fossero condotte al supplizio. Poi discese dalla Giudea a Cesarea e là si fermò per un podi tempo.
20 Or Erode era indignato contro i Tiri e i Sidoni; ma essi di comune accordo si presentarono a lui e, persuaso Blasto, ciambellano del re, chiedevano pace perché il loro paese era rifornito di viveri dalla liberalità del re.
21 Nel giorno stabilito Erode, vestito del manto regale e seduto sul trono, teneva loro un discorso.
22 Il popolo lo acclamava, dicendo: «Voce di Dio e non di uomo!».
23 In quell'istante un angelo del Signore lo colpí, perché non aveva dato gloria a Dio; e morí roso dai vermi.
24 Ora la parola di Dio cresceva e si diffondeva.
25 E Barnaba e Saulo, ultimata la loro missione, ritornarono da Gerusalemme ad Antiochia, avendo preso con loro Giovanni, soprannominato Marco.
