亞拿尼亞和撒非拉的鑒戒
5 有一個人名叫亞拿尼亞，同他妻子撒非拉，把田產賣了。 2 他私底下把錢留了一部分，妻子也知道這件事。他把其餘的一部分帶來，放在使徒的腳前。 3 彼得說：“亞拿尼亞，為甚麼撒但充滿了你的心，使你欺騙聖靈，私底下把賣地的錢留了一部分呢？ 4 田地還沒有賣，不是你自己的嗎？既然賣了，所得的錢不是由你作主嗎？你為甚麼存心這樣作呢？你這不是欺騙人，而是欺騙 神。” 5 亞拿尼亞一聽見這話，就仆倒斷了氣。所有聽見的人都十分害怕。 6 有幾個青年人來把他包好，抬出去埋了。
7 大約三小時之後，亞拿尼亞的妻子進來，還不知道發生了甚麼事。 8 彼得問她：“你告訴我，你們賣田地的錢，就是這麼多嗎？”她說：“是的，就是這麼多。” 9 彼得說：“你們為甚麼串同試探主的靈呢？你看，埋你丈夫的人的腳，已經到了門口，他們也要把你抬出去。” 10 她立刻就仆倒在彼得腳前，斷了氣。那些青年人進來，發現她死了，把她也抬出去，埋在她丈夫旁邊。 11 全體會眾和所有聽見這事的人，都很害怕。
使徒行神蹟奇事
12 主藉著使徒的手，在民間行了許多神蹟奇事。他們都同心聚集在所羅門廊下， 13 其餘的人，沒有一個敢接近他們，可是民眾都很敬重他們。 14 信主的男男女女越來越多， 15 甚至有人把病人抬到街上，放在小床和褥子上，好讓彼得經過時，至少他的身影可以落在一些人身上。 16 耶路撒冷周圍城市的人，也帶著病人和受污靈纏擾的，蜂擁而來，結果病人全都醫好了。
使徒受迫害
17 大祭司和他的同黨撒都該人都起來，滿心忌恨， 18 於是下手拿住使徒，把他們押在公共拘留所裡。 19 夜間有一位天使，打開監門，把他們領出來，說： 20 “你們去，站在殿裡，把一切有關這生命的話，都講給眾民聽。” 21 使徒聽完了，就在黎明的時候，進到殿裡去教導。大祭司和他的同黨來到了，就召集了公議會和以色列人的眾長老，派人到監牢去帶使徒出來。 22 差役到了監裡，找不到他們，回來報告說： 23 “我們發現監門緊閉，獄卒也守在門外；等到開了門，裡面連一個人也找不到。” 24 聖殿的守衛長和祭司長聽了這些話，覺得很困惑，不知道這件事將來會怎樣。 25 忽然有人來報告說：“你們押在監裡的那些人，正站在殿裡教導眾民呢！” 26 於是守衛長和差役去帶使徒來，不過沒有用暴力，因為怕眾民用石頭打他們。
27 既然帶來了，就叫他們站在公議會前。大祭司問他們： 28 “我們嚴厲地吩咐過你們，不准再奉這名教導。看，你們卻把你們的道理傳遍了耶路撒冷，想要把流這人的血的責任推到我們身上。” 29 彼得和眾使徒回答：“服從 神過於服從人，是應當的。 30 你們掛在木頭上親手殺害的耶穌，我們祖先的 神已經使他復活了。 31 神把他高舉在自己的右邊，作元首作救主，把悔改的心賜給了以色列人，使他們罪得赦免。 32 我們為這些事作證， 神賜給順從的人的聖靈也為這些事作證。”
33 公議會的人聽了，非常惱怒，就想要殺他們。 34 但有一個法利賽人，名叫迦瑪列，是民眾所尊敬的律法教師。他在公議會中站起來，吩咐人把使徒暫時帶出去， 35 然後對大家說：“以色列人哪，你們應當小心處理這些人！ 36 從前有個丟大，自命不凡，附從他的人約有四百。他一被殺，跟從他的人盡都星散，一敗塗地。 37 這人之後，在戶口登記的時候，又有一個加利利人猶大，拉攏人們來跟從他。後來他也喪命，跟從他的人也就煙消雲散了。 38 至於目前的事，我勸你們不要管這些人，由他們吧！因為這計劃或這行動，如果是出於人意，終必失敗； 39 如果是出於 神，你們就不能破壞他們，恐怕你們是與 神作對了。”他們接受了他的勸告， 40 就傳使徒進來，鞭打一頓，禁止他們奉耶穌的名傳講，就把他們釋放了。 41 使徒歡歡喜喜從公議會裡出來，因為他們算是配得為主的名受辱。 42 他們天天在殿裡並在各人的家中，不斷地教導，傳講耶穌是基督。

Lying to the Holy Spirit
5 But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property. 2 However, he kept back part of the proceeds with his wife’s knowledge, and brought a portion of it and laid it at the apostles’ feet.(A)
3 Then Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart(B) to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the proceeds from the field? 4 Wasn’t it yours while you possessed it? And after it was sold, wasn’t it at your disposal? Why is it that you planned this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God!” 5 When he heard these words, Ananias dropped dead, and a great fear came on all who heard.(C) 6 The young men got up, wrapped his body, carried him out, and buried him.(D)
7 There was an interval of about three hours; then his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 “Tell me,” Peter asked her, “did you sell the field for this price?”
“Yes,” she said, “for that price.”
9 Then Peter said to her, “Why did you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look! The feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out!”(E)
10 Instantly she dropped dead at his feet. When the young men came in, they found her dead, carried her out, and buried her beside her husband. 11 Then great fear came on the whole church and on all who heard these things.
Apostolic Signs and Wonders
12 Many signs and wonders were being done among the people through the hands of the apostles.(F) By common consent they would all meet in Solomon’s Colonnade.(G) 13 None of the rest dared to join them, but the people praised them highly.(H) 14 Believers were added to the Lord in increasing numbers—crowds of both men and women. 15 As a result, they would carry the sick out into the streets and lay them on cots and mats so that when Peter came by, at least his shadow(I) might fall on some of them. 16 In addition, a large group came together from the towns surrounding Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all healed.
In and Out of Prison
17 Then the high priest took action. He and all his colleagues, those who belonged to the party of the Sadducees, were filled with jealousy.(J) 18 So they arrested[a] the apostles and put them in the city jail.(K) 19 But an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail during the night, brought them out, and said,(L) 20 “Go and stand in the temple complex, and tell the people all about this life.”(M) 21 In obedience to this, they entered the temple complex at daybreak and began to teach.
The Apostles on Trial Again
When the high priest and those who were with him arrived, they convened the Sanhedrin—the full Senate of the sons of Israel—and sent orders to the jail to have them brought.(N) 22 But when the temple police got there, they did not find them in the jail, so they returned and reported, 23 “We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing in front of the doors, but when we opened them, we found no one inside!” 24 As[b] the commander of the temple police and the chief priests heard these things, they were baffled about them, as to what could come of this.
25 Someone came and reported to them, “Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple complex and teaching the people.” 26 Then the commander went with the temple police and brought them in without force, because they were afraid the people might stone them.(O) 27 After they brought them in, they had them stand before the Sanhedrin, and the high priest asked, 28 “Didn’t we strictly order you not to teach in this name?(P) And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to bring this man’s blood on us!”(Q)
29 But Peter and the apostles replied, “We must obey God rather than men. 30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus,(R) whom you had murdered by hanging Him on a tree.(S) 31 God exalted this man to His right hand as ruler and Savior, to grant repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.(T) 32 We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit(U) whom God has given to those who obey Him.”
Gamaliel’s Advice
33 When they heard this, they were enraged and wanted to kill them.(V) 34 A Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law who was respected by all the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and ordered the men[c] to be taken outside for a little while.(W) 35 He said to them, “Men of Israel, be careful about what you’re going to do to these men. 36 Not long ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and a group of about 400 men rallied to him. He was killed, and all his partisans were dispersed and came to nothing.(X) 37 After this man, Judas the Galilean rose up in the days of the census and attracted a following.[d] That man also perished, and all his partisans were scattered. 38 And now, I tell you, stay away from these men and leave them alone. For if this plan or this work is of men, it will be overthrown;(Y) 39 but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You may even be found fighting against God.” So they were persuaded by him.(Z) 40 After they called in the apostles and had them flogged, they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus and released them.(AA) 41 Then they went out from the presence of the Sanhedrin, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to be dishonored on behalf of the Name.[e](AB) 42 Every day in the temple complex, and in various homes, they continued teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.

Lying to the Holy Spirit
5 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession. 2 And he kept back part of the proceeds, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 (A)But Peter said, “Ananias, why has (B)Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? 4 While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.”
5 Then Ananias, hearing these words, (C)fell down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things. 6 And the young men arose and (D)wrapped him up, carried him out, and buried him.
7 Now it was about three hours later when his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 And Peter answered her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much?”
She said, “Yes, for so much.”
9 Then Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together (E)to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.” 10 (F)Then immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. And the young men came in and found her dead, and carrying her out, buried her by her husband. 11 (G)So great fear came upon all the church and upon all who heard these things.
Continuing Power in the Church
12 And (H)through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people. (I)And they were all with one accord in Solomon’s Porch. 13 Yet (J)none of the rest dared join them, (K)but the people esteemed them highly. 14 And believers were increasingly added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women, 15 so that they brought the sick out into the streets and laid them on beds and couches, (L)that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might fall on some of them. 16 Also a multitude gathered from the surrounding cities to Jerusalem, bringing (M)sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all healed.
Imprisoned Apostles Freed
17 (N)Then the high priest rose up, and all those who were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with [a]indignation, 18 (O)and laid their hands on the apostles and put them in the common prison. 19 But at night (P)an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them out, and said, 20 “Go, stand in the temple and speak to the people (Q)all the words of this life.”
21 And when they heard that, they entered the temple early in the morning and taught. (R)But the high priest and those with him came and called the [b]council together, with all the [c]elders of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
Apostles on Trial Again
22 But when the officers came and did not find them in the prison, they returned and reported, 23 saying, “Indeed we found the prison shut securely, and the guards standing [d]outside before the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside!” 24 Now when [e]the high priest, (S)the captain of the temple, and the chief priests heard these things, they wondered what the outcome would be. 25 So one came and told them, [f]saying, “Look, the men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people!”
26 Then the captain went with the officers and brought them without violence, (T)for they feared the people, lest they should be stoned. 27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest asked them, 28 saying, (U)“Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, (V)and intend to bring this Man’s (W)blood on us!”
29 But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: (X)“We ought to obey God rather than men. 30 (Y)The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by (Z)hanging on a tree. 31 (AA)Him God has exalted to His right hand to be (AB)Prince and (AC)Savior, (AD)to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. 32 And (AE)we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit (AF)whom God has given to those who obey Him.”
Gamaliel’s Advice
33 When they heard this, they were (AG)furious[g] and plotted to kill them. 34 Then one in the council stood up, a Pharisee named (AH)Gamaliel, a teacher of the law held in respect by all the people, and commanded them to put the apostles outside for a little while. 35 And he said to them: “Men of Israel, [h]take heed to yourselves what you intend to do regarding these men. 36 For some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody. A number of men, about four hundred, [i]joined him. He was slain, and all who obeyed him were scattered and came to nothing. 37 After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the census, and drew away many people after him. He also perished, and all who obeyed him were dispersed. 38 And now I say to you, keep away from these men and let them alone; for if this plan or this work is of men, it will come to nothing; 39 (AI)but if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it—lest you even be found (AJ)to fight against God.”
40 And they agreed with him, and when they had (AK)called for the apostles (AL)and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 41 So they departed from the presence of the council, (AM)rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for [j]His name. 42 And daily (AN)in the temple, and in every house, (AO)they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.
