雅各殉道，彼得被囚

12 大约在此时，希律王下手虐待教会中的一些人， 2 用刀杀了约翰的哥哥[a]雅各。 3 他见这事使犹太人高兴，就又去抓彼得；那时正是除酵节期间。 4 希律抓了彼得，把他关进监狱，交给四班士兵看守，每班四个人，打算在逾越节以后把他提到民众面前审判[b]。 5 这样，彼得被拘留在监狱里，教会却为他热切地向神祷告。

彼得获救

6 希律要把彼得提出来审判[c]的前一夜，彼得被两条铁链捆锁，睡在两个士兵中间，又有一些卫兵在监狱门前看守着。 7 忽然主的一位天使站在旁边，牢房里有光照耀。天使拍拍彼得的肋旁，叫醒他，说：“赶快起来！”那些铁链立刻就从彼得的手上掉了下来。 8 天使对他说：“束上腰带，穿上鞋子！”他就照着做了。天使又说：“披上外衣，跟着我！” 9 彼得就出来跟着走，却不知道天使所做的是真的，以为自己是见了异象。 10 他们经过第一和第二道岗，来到通往城里的铁门前，铁门就自动为他们开了。他们出去，走过一条街，天使立刻离开了他。

11 这时候，彼得清醒过来，说：“现在我确实知道主派了他的天使来，救我脱离希律的手和犹太民众所期待的一切事。” 12 他明白之后，就到约翰的母亲玛丽亚家去，这约翰又叫马可。有许多人聚集在那里祷告。 13 彼得敲了外面的门，一个叫罗妲的女仆前来应门。 14 她一认出是彼得的声音，就高兴得顾不上打开门，跑进去告诉大家说，彼得站在门外。

15 他们对罗妲说：“你疯了！”可是她坚持就是如此。他们不住地说：“那是他的天使。” 16 这时，彼得不停地敲门。他们就打开了门，看见是他，都十分惊讶。

17 彼得挥一下手叫他们安静，告诉他们主怎样领他出了监狱，又说：“你们把这些事告诉雅各和弟兄们。”然后他就出发，往别的地方去了。

18 到天亮，士兵们中间起了不小的骚动，不知道彼得出了什么事。 19 希律搜寻彼得，却没有找到，就审问卫兵们，下令把他们处决了。后来希律离开犹太，下到凯撒里亚去，住在那里。

希律之死

20 当时，希律一直恼恨提尔和西顿的人。所以他们联合起来到王那里去，先说服了王的内臣布拉斯托，然后向王求和，因为他们地区的人是从王的领地[d]得粮食的。 21 在指定的日子，希律穿上王袍，坐在审判席上，向他们公开演说。 22 民众一直喊叫：“这是神的声音，不是人的声音。” 23 主的一位天使立刻击打希律，因为他没有把荣耀归给神。他被虫咬蚀，就断了气。 24 于是神的话语[e]不断扩展[f]，越发广传。 25 巴拿巴和扫罗完成了那服事的工作[g]，就带着那称为马可的约翰，从耶路撒冷回去了[h]。

12 Por aquel tiempo el rey Herodes[a] echó mano a algunos que pertenecían a la iglesia para maltratarlos. 2 E hizo matar(A) a espada a Jacobo[b], el hermano de Juan(B). 3 Y viendo que esto agradaba a los judíos(C), hizo arrestar también a Pedro. Esto sucedió durante los días[c] de los panes sin levadura[d](D). 4 Y habiéndolo tomado preso, lo puso en la cárcel, entregándolo a cuatro piquetes[e] de soldados(E) para que lo guardaran, con la intención de llevarlo ante el pueblo después de la Pascua(F). 5 Así pues, Pedro era custodiado en la cárcel, pero la iglesia hacía oración ferviente a Dios por él. 6 Y esa noche, cuando Herodes estaba a punto de sacarlo, Pedro estaba durmiendo entre dos soldados, sujeto con dos cadenas(G); y unos guardias delante de la puerta custodiaban la cárcel. 7 Y he aquí, se le apareció(H) un ángel del Señor(I), y una luz brilló en la celda; y el ángel tocó a Pedro en el costado, y lo despertó diciendo: Levántate pronto. Y las cadenas cayeron de sus manos(J). 8 Y el ángel le dijo: Vístete y ponte[f] las sandalias. Y así lo hizo. Y le dijo* el ángel: Envuélvete en tu manto y sígueme. 9 Y saliendo, lo seguía, y no sabía que lo que hacía el ángel era de verdad, sino que creía ver una visión(K). 10 Cuando habían pasado la primera y la segunda guardia, llegaron a la puerta de hierro que conduce a la ciudad, la cual se les abrió(L) por sí misma; y salieron y siguieron por una calle, y enseguida el ángel se apartó de él. 11 Cuando Pedro volvió en sí(M), dijo: Ahora sé en verdad que el Señor ha enviado a su ángel, y me ha rescatado(N) de la mano de Herodes y de todo lo que esperaba el pueblo de los judíos. 12 Al darse cuenta de esto, fue a la casa de María, la madre de Juan, llamado también Marcos(O), donde muchos estaban reunidos y oraban(P). 13 Y cuando llamó a la puerta de la entrada, una sirvienta(Q) llamada Rode salió a ver quién era[g]. 14 Al reconocer la voz de Pedro, de alegría(R) no abrió la puerta, sino que corrió adentro y anunció que Pedro estaba a la puerta. 15 Y ellos le dijeron: ¡Estás loca! Pero ella insistía en que así era. Y ellos decían: Es su ángel(S). 16 Mas Pedro continuaba llamando; y cuando ellos abrieron, lo vieron y se asombraron. 17 Y haciéndoles señal con la mano(T) para que guardaran silencio, les contó cómo el Señor lo había sacado de la cárcel. Y les dijo: Informad de estas cosas a Jacobo[h](U) y a los hermanos(V). Entonces salió, y se fue a otro lugar.

18 Cuando se hizo de día, hubo un alboroto no pequeño entre los soldados sobre qué[i] habría sido de Pedro. 19 Y Herodes, después de buscarlo y no encontrarlo, interrogó a los guardias y ordenó que los llevaran para ejecutarlos(W). Después descendió de Judea a Cesarea(X), y se quedó allí por un tiempo.

Muerte de Herodes

20 Herodes estaba muy enojado con los de Tiro y de Sidón(Y); pero ellos, de común acuerdo se presentaron ante él, y habiéndose ganado a Blasto, camarero del rey, pedían paz pues su territorio era abastecido por el del rey(Z). 21 El día señalado, Herodes, vestido con ropa real, se sentó en la tribuna[j] y les arengaba. 22 Y la gente gritaba: ¡Voz de un dios y no de un hombre es esta! 23 Al instante un ángel del Señor(AA) lo hirió, por no haber dado la gloria a Dios; y murió[k] comido de gusanos.

24 Pero la palabra del Señor crecía y se multiplicaba(AB).

25 Y Bernabé y Saulo(AC) regresaron de[l] Jerusalén después de haber cumplido su misión[m](AD), llevando consigo a Juan, llamado también Marcos(AE).

12 Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.

2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

3 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)

4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.

5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.

7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

9 And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.

10 When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.

11 And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

12 And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.

13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.

14 And when she knew Peter's voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.

15 And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.

16 But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.

17 But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.

18 Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.

19 And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judaea to Caesarea, and there abode.

20 And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king's country.

21 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.

22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.

23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

24 But the word of God grew and multiplied.

25 And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark.

Peter’s Miraculous Escape From Prison

12 It was about this time that King Herod(A) arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them. 2 He had James, the brother of John,(B) put to death with the sword.(C) 3 When he saw that this met with approval among the Jews,(D) he proceeded to seize Peter also. This happened during the Festival of Unleavened Bread.(E) 4 After arresting him, he put him in prison, handing him over to be guarded by four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring him out for public trial after the Passover.(F)

5 So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.(G)

6 The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains,(H) and sentries stood guard at the entrance. 7 Suddenly an angel(I) of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists.(J)

8 Then the angel said to him, “Put on your clothes and sandals.” And Peter did so. “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me,” the angel told him. 9 Peter followed him out of the prison, but he had no idea that what the angel was doing was really happening; he thought he was seeing a vision.(K) 10 They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city. It opened for them by itself,(L) and they went through it. When they had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left him.

11 Then Peter came to himself(M) and said, “Now I know without a doubt that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me(N) from Herod’s clutches and from everything the Jewish people were hoping would happen.”

12 When this had dawned on him, he went to the house of Mary the mother of John, also called Mark,(O) where many people had gathered and were praying.(P) 13 Peter knocked at the outer entrance, and a servant named Rhoda came to answer the door.(Q) 14 When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed(R) she ran back without opening it and exclaimed, “Peter is at the door!”

15 “You’re out of your mind,” they told her. When she kept insisting that it was so, they said, “It must be his angel.”(S)

16 But Peter kept on knocking, and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished. 17 Peter motioned with his hand(T) for them to be quiet and described how the Lord had brought him out of prison. “Tell James(U) and the other brothers and sisters(V) about this,” he said, and then he left for another place.

18 In the morning, there was no small commotion among the soldiers as to what had become of Peter. 19 After Herod had a thorough search made for him and did not find him, he cross-examined the guards and ordered that they be executed.(W)

Herod’s Death

Then Herod went from Judea to Caesarea(X) and stayed there. 20 He had been quarreling with the people of Tyre and Sidon;(Y) they now joined together and sought an audience with him. After securing the support of Blastus, a trusted personal servant of the king, they asked for peace, because they depended on the king’s country for their food supply.(Z)

21 On the appointed day Herod, wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered a public address to the people. 22 They shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not of a man.” 23 Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel(AA) of the Lord struck him down,(AB) and he was eaten by worms and died.

24 But the word of God(AC) continued to spread and flourish.(AD)

Barnabas and Saul Sent Off

25 When Barnabas(AE) and Saul had finished their mission,(AF) they returned from[a] Jerusalem, taking with them John, also called Mark.(AG)

An Angel Frees Peter from Prison

6 Now on [d]the very night when Herod was about to bring him forward, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, (G)bound with two chains, and guards in front of the door were watching over the prison. 7 And behold, (H)an angel of the Lord suddenly (I)appeared and a light shone in the cell; and he struck Peter’s side and woke him up, saying, “Rise up quickly.” And (J)his chains fell off his hands. 8 And the angel said to him, “Gird yourself and [e]put on your sandals.” And he did so. And he *said to him, “Wrap your garment around yourself and follow me.” 9 And he went out and continued to follow, and he did not know that what was being done by the angel was real, but was thinking he was seeing (K)a vision. 10 And when they had passed the first and second guard posts, they came to the iron gate that leads into the city, which (L)opened for them by itself; and they went out and went along one street, and immediately the angel departed from him. 11 When Peter (M)came [f]to himself, he said, “Now truly I know that (N)the Lord has sent His angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod and from all [g]that the Jewish people were expecting.” 12 And when he realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of (O)John who was also called Mark, where many were gathered together and (P)were praying. 13 And when he knocked at the door of the gate, (Q)a servant-girl named Rhoda came to answer. 14 And when she recognized Peter’s voice, (R)because of her joy she did not open the gate. But she ran in and reported that Peter was standing in front of the gate. 15 And they said to her, “You are out of your mind!” But she kept insisting that it was so. They kept saying, “It is (S)his angel.” 16 But Peter continued knocking, and when they opened the door, they saw him and were astounded. 17 But (T)motioning to them with his hand to be silent, he recounted to them how the Lord had led him out of the prison. And he said, “Report these things to (U)James and (V)the brothers.” Then he left and went to another place.

18 Now when day came, there was no small disturbance among the soldiers as to what [h]had become of Peter. 19 And when Herod had searched for him and had not found him, he examined the guards and ordered that they (W)be led away to execution. Then he went down from Judea to (X)Caesarea and was spending time there.

The Death of Herod

20 Now he was very angry with the people of (Y)Tyre and Sidon; and with one accord they came to him, and having won over Blastus the king’s chamberlain, they were asking for peace, because (Z)their country was fed by the king’s country. 21 And on an appointed day Herod, having put on his royal apparel and sitting on the judgment seat, began delivering an address to them. 22 And the assembly kept crying out, “The voice of a god and not of a man!” 23 And immediately (AA)an angel of the [i]Lord struck him because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and breathed his last.

24 But (AB)the word of the Lord continued to grow and to be multiplied.

25 And (AC)Barnabas and (AD)Saul [j]returned [k]to Jerusalem, (AE)fulfilling their ministry, taking along with them (AF)John, who was also called Mark.
