4 尼布甲尼撒王晓谕住在全地各方、各国、各族的人说：愿你们大享平安！ ²我乐意将至高的神向我所行的神迹奇事宣扬出来。 ³他的神迹何其大，他的奇事何其盛！他的国是永远的，他的权柄存到万代！

尼布甲尼撒王自述得梦术士不能详解

⁴我尼布甲尼撒安居在宫中，平顺在殿内。 ⁵我做了一梦，使我惧怕，我在床上的思念并脑中的异象使我惊惶。 ⁶所以我降旨召巴比伦的一切哲士到我面前，叫他们把梦的讲解告诉我。 ⁷于是那些术士、用法术的、迦勒底人、观兆的都进来，我将那梦告诉了他们，他们却不能把梦的讲解告诉我。

以梦告但以理

⁸末后那照我神的名称为伯提沙撒的但以理来到我面前，他里头有圣神的灵。我将梦告诉他说： ⁹“术士的领袖伯提沙撒啊，因我知道你里头有圣神的灵，什么奥秘的事都不能使你为难，现在要把我梦中所见的异象和梦的讲解告诉我。 ¹⁰我在床上脑中的异象是这样：我看见地当中有一棵树，极其高大。 ¹¹那树渐长，而且坚固，高得顶天，从地极都能看见。 ¹²叶子华美，果子甚多，可做众生的食物。田野的走兽卧在荫下，天空的飞鸟宿在枝上，凡有血气的都从这树得食。 ¹³我在床上脑中的异象，见有一位守望的圣者从天而降， ¹⁴大声呼叫说：‘伐倒这树，砍下枝子，摇掉叶子，抛散果子，使走兽离开树下，飞鸟躲开树枝。 ¹⁵树墩却要留在地内，用铁圈和铜圈箍住，在田野的青草中让天露滴湿，使他与地上的兽一同吃草。 ¹⁶使他的心改变，不如人心，给他一个兽心，使他经过七期^[a]。 ¹⁷这是守望者所发的命，圣者所出的令，好叫世人知道至高者在人的国中掌权，要将国赐予谁就赐予谁，或立极卑微的人执掌国权。’ ¹⁸这是我尼布甲尼撒王所做的梦。伯提沙撒啊，你要说明这梦的讲解，因为我国中的一切哲士都不能将梦的讲解告诉我，唯独你能，因你里头有圣神的灵。”

但以理为王解梦

¹⁹于是称为伯提沙撒的但以理惊讶片时，心意惊惶。王说：“伯提沙撒啊，不要因梦和梦的讲解惊惶。”伯提沙撒回答说：“我主啊，愿这梦归于恨恶你的人，讲解归于你的敌人！ ²⁰你所见的树渐长，而且坚固，高得顶天，从地极都能看见。 ²¹叶子华美，果子甚多，可做众生的食物。田野的走兽住在其下，天空的飞鸟宿在枝上。 ²²王啊，这渐长又坚固的树就是你。你的威势渐长及天，你的权柄管到地极。 ²³王既看见一位守望的圣者从天而降，说：‘将这树砍伐毁坏，树墩却要留在地内，用铁圈和铜圈箍住，在田野的青草中，让天露滴湿，使他与地上的兽一同吃草，直到经过七期。’ ²⁴王啊，讲解就是这样：临到我主我王的事是出于至高者的命。 ²⁵你必被赶出离开世人，与野地的兽同居，吃草如牛，被天露滴湿，且要经过七期，等你知道至高者在人的国中掌权，要将国赐予谁就赐予谁。 ²⁶守望者既吩咐存留树墩，等你知道诸天掌权，以后你的国必定归你。 ²⁷王啊，求你悦纳我的谏言，以施行公义断绝罪过，以怜悯穷人除掉罪孽，或者你的平安可以延长。”

梦兆应于王身

²⁸这事都临到尼布甲尼撒王。 ²⁹过了十二个月，他游行在巴比伦王宫里^[b]， ³⁰他说：“这大巴比伦不是我用大能大力建为京都，要显我威严的荣耀吗？” ³¹这话在王口中尚未说完，有声音从天降下，说：“尼布甲尼撒王啊，有话对你说：你的国位离开你了！ ³²你必被赶出离开世人，与野地的兽同居，吃草如牛，且要经过七期，等你知道至高者在人的国中掌权，要将国赐予谁就赐予谁。” ³³当时这话就应验在尼布甲尼撒的身上，他被赶出离开世人，吃草如牛，身被天露滴湿，头发长长好像鹰毛，指甲长长如同鸟爪。

³⁴日子满足，我尼布甲尼撒举目望天，我的聪明复归于我，我便称颂至高者，赞美、尊敬活到永远的神。他的权柄是永有的，他的国存到万代。 ³⁵世上所有的居民都算为虚无，在天上的万军和世上的居民中，他都凭自己的意旨行事。无人能拦住他手，或问他说：“你做什么呢？” ³⁶那时，我的聪明复归于我，为我国的荣耀，威严和光耀也都复归于我，并且我的谋士和大臣也来朝见我。我又得坚立在国位上，至大的权柄加增于我。 ³⁷现在我尼布甲尼撒赞美、尊崇、恭敬天上的王，因为他所做的全都诚实，他所行的也都公平，那行动骄傲的，他能降为卑。

4 尼布甲尼撒王傳諭天下各族、各邦、各語種的人：「願你們大享平安！ ²我樂意向你們述說至高的上帝對我所行的神蹟奇事。

³「祂的神蹟何其偉大！
祂的奇事何其可畏！
祂的國度永遠長存，
祂的統治直到萬代。

⁴「我尼布甲尼撒安居在家，在宮中享受榮華。 ⁵但我做了一個夢，令我害怕。我躺在床上的時候，腦中出現的情景和異象使我恐懼。 ⁶我便召巴比倫所有的智者來為我解夢。 ⁷術士、巫師、占星家和占卜者都來了，我將夢告訴他們，他們卻不能給我解夢。 ⁸最後但以理來到我面前，他又名伯提沙撒——取自我神明的名，他有聖潔神明的靈。我將夢告訴他，說， ⁹『術士的首領伯提沙撒啊，我知道你有聖潔神明的靈，任何奧秘都難不倒你。請你為我解釋我夢中所見的異象。

¹³「『我躺在床上時腦中出現了異象，我看見一位聖潔的守望者從天而降。 ¹⁴他大聲說，砍倒那棵樹，削掉它的枝子，剝光它的葉子，拋散它的果子，使野獸逃離樹下，飛鳥離開枝頭。 ¹⁵但把樹丕留在地裡，用鐵環和銅環箍住他留在野地的青草中，讓他被天上的露水浸濕，與野獸一起吃草。 ¹⁶要改變他的人心，給他一個獸心，達七年之久。 ¹⁷這是守望者的命令，是聖者的決定，要讓眾生知道至高者主宰世上萬國，祂要把國賜給誰就賜給誰，即使是最卑微的人。』

¹⁸「這就是我尼布甲尼撒王所做的夢。伯提沙撒啊，你要為我解夢，因為我國中所有的智者都不能為我解夢。但是你能，因為你有聖潔神明的靈。」

但以理解夢

¹⁹但以理，又名伯提沙撒，一時非常驚訝，惶恐不安。王說：「伯提沙撒啊，不要因為這夢和夢的意思而惶恐不安。」伯提沙撒回答說：「我主啊，願這夢發生在恨你的人身上，夢的意思應驗在你的仇敵身上。 ²⁰你夢見的樹蒼勁有力，高可參天，從地極都能看見。 ²¹它的葉子美麗，果實纍纍，可作眾生的食物。野獸住在它的蔭下，飛鳥宿在它的枝頭。 ²²王啊，這蒼勁有力的樹就是你，你的威名高達穹蒼，你的權柄延至地極。 ²³王看見聖潔的守望者從天而降，說，『將這樹砍倒、毀滅，但把樹丕用鐵環和銅環箍住留在野地的青草中，讓他被天上的露水浸濕，與野獸一起吃草，達七年之久。』

²⁴「王啊，以下是夢的意思，是至高者裁定要臨到我主我王的事： ²⁵你必從人群中被趕走，與野獸同住，像牛一樣吃草，被天上的露水浸濕，達七年之久，直到你知道至高者主宰世上萬國，祂要把國賜給誰就賜給誰。 ²⁶守望者命令留下樹丕，表示等到你承認上天掌權後，你將重掌國權。 ²⁷王啊，請接受我的勸諫，你要秉公行義，以斷絕罪惡；憐憫窮人，以除掉罪過。這樣，你的國運也許可以延續。」

夢兆應驗

²⁸這一切事果然發生在尼布甲尼撒王身上。 ²⁹十二個月後，他在巴比倫王宮的屋頂散步時， ³⁰說：「這宏偉的巴比倫豈不是我用大能建立為京都，以顯我的威嚴和榮耀嗎？」 ³¹話未說完，天上就有聲音說：「尼布甲尼撒王啊，你聽著，你已失去王權。 ³²你必從人群中被趕走，與野獸同住，像牛一樣吃草，達七年之久，直到你知道至高者主宰世上萬國，祂要把國賜給誰就賜給誰。」 ³³這話立刻應驗在尼布甲尼撒身上。他從人群中被趕走，像牛一樣吃草，身體被天上的露水浸濕，直到他的頭髮長如鷹毛，指甲長如鳥爪。

³⁴「七年後，我尼布甲尼撒舉目望天，恢復了神智，便稱頌至高者，讚美、尊崇永活者。

「祂的統治永無窮盡，
祂的國度直到萬代。
³⁵世人都微不足道，
祂在天軍和世人中獨行其道，
無人能攔阻祂的手，
或質問祂的作為。

³⁶「那時，我恢復了神智，也恢復了我的威嚴和榮耀，重現我國度的輝煌。我的謀士和大臣都來朝見我，我重掌國權，勢力比以前更大。 ³⁷現在我尼布甲尼撒頌讚、尊崇、敬奉天上的王，因為祂的作為公正，祂行事公平，能夠貶抑行為驕傲的人。」

4 ⁽⁴⁾“I, N’vukhadnetzar, was contentedly living at home, enjoying the luxury of my palace; ²⁽⁵⁾but as I lay on my bed, I had a dream which frightened me, followed by fantasies and visions in my head which frightened me even more. ³⁽⁶⁾So I ordered all the sages of Bavel to present themselves to me, so that they could tell me the interpretation of the dream. ⁴⁽⁷⁾When the magicians, exorcists, astrologers and diviners came, I told them the dream; but they couldn’t interpret it for me. ⁵⁽⁸⁾Finally, however, Dani’el (renamed Belt’shatzar, after the name of my god), in whom is the spirit of the holy gods, came before me; and I told him the dream: ⁶⁽⁹⁾‘Belt’shatzar, chief of the magicians! Because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you, and no mystery is too difficult for you, tell me the meaning of the visions I saw in my dream. ⁷⁽¹⁰⁾Here are the visions I had in my head as I lay on my bed: I looked, and there before me was a tree at the center of the earth; it was very tall. ⁸⁽¹¹⁾The tree grew and became strong until its crown reached the sky, and it could be seen from anywhere on earth. ⁹⁽¹²⁾Its foliage was beautiful and its fruit abundant; it produced enough food for everyone. The wild animals enjoyed its shade, the birds in the air lived in its branches, and it gave food to every living creature. ¹⁰⁽¹³⁾I looked in the visions of my head as I lay on my bed, and there appeared a holy watcher coming down from heaven. ¹¹⁽¹⁴⁾He cried out:

    “‘“Cut down the tree, cut off its branches,
    strip off its leaves, scatter its fruit!
    Let the wild animals flee from its shelter!
    Let the birds abandon its branches!
¹²⁽¹⁵⁾But leave the stump with its roots in the ground,
    with a band of iron and bronze,
    in the lush grass of the countryside;
    let him be drenched with dew from the sky
    and share the lot of animals in the pasture;
¹³⁽¹⁶⁾let his heart and mind cease to be human
    and become those of an animal;
    and let seven seasons pass over him.

¹⁴⁽¹⁷⁾“‘“This order is issued by the watchers,
    the sentence is announced by the holy ones,
    so that all who live may know
    that the Most High rules the human kingdom,
    that he gives it to whomever he wishes
    and can raise up over it the lowliest of mortals.”

¹⁵⁽¹⁸⁾“‘This is the dream which I, King N’vukhadnetzar, saw. Now you, Belt’shatzar, tell me its interpretation. None of the sages of my kingdom can tell me the interpretation, but you can do it, because the spirit of the holy gods is in you.’

¹⁶⁽¹⁹⁾“Dani’el, whose name was Belt’shatzar, was in shock awhile, frightened by his thoughts. The king said, ‘Belt’shatzar, don’t let the dream or the interpretation frighten you.’ Belt’shatzar answered, ‘My lord, if only the dream were about those who hate you, and the interpretation about your enemies! ¹⁷⁽²⁰⁾The tree you saw which grew and became strong until its crown reached the sky, and it could be seen throughout the whole earth, ¹⁸⁽²¹⁾that had beautiful foliage and abundant fruit, enough to feed everyone, under which the wild animals lived, and on whose branches the birds in the air built their nests — ¹⁹⁽²²⁾it’s you, your majesty! You have grown and become strong — your greatness has grown and reaches to heaven, and your rule extends to the end of the earth.

²⁰⁽²³⁾“‘Now the king saw a holy watcher coming down from heaven, who said,

    “‘“Cut down the tree, and destroy it,
    but leave the stump with its roots in the ground,
    with a band of iron and bronze,
    in the lush grass of the countryside;
    let him be drenched with dew from the sky
    and share the lot of the wild animals
    until seven seasons pass over him.”

²¹⁽²⁴⁾“‘This is the interpretation, your majesty; and it is the decree of the Most High that has come upon my lord the king:

²²⁽²⁵⁾“‘You will be driven from human society
    to live with the wild animals.
    You will be made to eat grass like an ox
    and be drenched with dew from the sky,
    as seven seasons pass over you;
    until you learn that the Most High
    rules in the human kingdom
    and gives it to whomever he pleases.

²³⁽²⁶⁾“‘But since it was ordered to leave the stump of the tree with its roots, your kingdom will be kept for you until you have learned that Heaven rules everything. ²⁴⁽²⁷⁾Therefore, your majesty, please take my advice: break with your sins by replacing them with acts of charity, and break with your crimes by showing mercy to the poor; this may extend the time of your prosperity.’

²⁵⁽²⁸⁾“All this happened to King N’vukhadnetzar. ²⁶⁽²⁹⁾Twelve months later, as he was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Bavel, ²⁷⁽³⁰⁾the king said, ‘Bavel the great! I built it as a royal residence by my power and force to enhance the glory of my majesty!’ ²⁸⁽³¹⁾No sooner had the king spoken these words when a voice came down from heaven: ‘King N’vukhadnetzar! These words are for you:

    ‘“The kingdom has left you.
²⁹⁽³²⁾You will be driven from human society
    to live with the wild animals.
    You will be made to eat grass like an ox
    and be drenched with dew from the sky,
    as seven seasons pass over you,
    until you learn that the Most High
    rules in the human kingdom
    and gives it to whomever he pleases.’

³⁰⁽³³⁾“Within the hour the word was fulfilled. N’vukhadnetzar was driven from human society, he ate grass like an ox, and his body was drenched with dew from the sky, until his hair had grown like eagles’ feathers and his nails like birds’ claws.

³¹⁽³⁴⁾“When this period was over, I, N’vukhadnetzar, lifted my eyes toward heaven, and my understanding came back to me. I blessed the Most High, I praised and gave honor to him who lives forever.

    “‘For his rulership is everlasting,
    his kingdom endures through all generations.
³²⁽³⁵⁾All who live on earth are counted as nothing.
    He does what he wishes with the army of heaven
    and with those living on earth.
    No one can hold back his hand
    or ask him, “What are you doing?”’

³³⁽³⁶⁾“It was at that moment that my understanding came back to me; and for the sake of the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and splendor also came back to me. My advisers and lords sought me out, I was re-established in my kingdom, and to my previous greatness even more was added. ³⁴⁽³⁷⁾So now I, N’vukhadnetzar, praise, exalt and honor the King of heaven:

    “‘For all his works are truth,
    and his ways are just;
    and he can humble those who walk in pride.’”
