³忧愁强如喜笑，因为面带愁容终必使心喜乐。 ⁴智慧人的心在遭丧之家，愚昧人的心在快乐之家。

受智者责胜于听愚者歌

⁵听智慧人的责备，强如听愚昧人的歌唱。 ⁶愚昧人的笑声好像锅下烧荆棘的爆声。这也是虚空。 ⁷勒索使智慧人变为愚妄，贿赂能败坏人的慧心。

⁸事情的终局强如事情的起头，存心忍耐的胜过居心骄傲的。 ⁹你不要心里急躁恼怒，因为恼怒存在愚昧人的怀中。

New International Version

³Frustration is better than laughter,^(A)
    because a sad face is good for the heart.
⁴The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning,
    but the heart of fools is in the house of pleasure.^(B)
⁵It is better to heed the rebuke^(C) of a wise person
    than to listen to the song of fools.
⁶Like the crackling of thorns^(D) under the pot,
    so is the laughter^(E) of fools.
    This too is meaningless.

⁷Extortion turns a wise person into a fool,
and a bribe^(F) corrupts the heart.

⁸The end of a matter is better than its beginning,
and patience^(G) is better than pride.
⁹Do not be quickly provoked^(H) in your spirit,
for anger resides in the lap of fools.^(I)
