万事都有定时
3 凡事都有定期，
天下每一事务都有定时。
2 生有时，死有时；
栽种有时，拔出[a]有时；
3 杀戮有时，医治有时；
拆毁有时，建造有时；
4 哭有时，笑有时；
哀恸有时，跳舞有时；
5 丢石头有时，捡石头有时；
怀抱有时，不抱有时；
6 寻找有时，失落有时；
保存有时，抛弃有时；
7 撕裂有时，缝补有时；
沉默有时，说话有时；
8 喜爱有时，恨恶有时；
战争有时，和平有时。
9 这样，做事的人在他所劳碌的事上得到什么益处呢？ 10 我观看 神给世人的担子，使他们在其中劳苦： 11 神造万物，各按其时成为美好，又将永恒安放在世人心里；然而 神从始至终的作为，人不能测透。 12 我知道，人除了终身喜乐纳福，没有一件幸福的事。 13 并且人人吃喝，在他的一切劳碌中享福，这也是 神的赏赐。
14 我知道 神所做的都必存到永远；无所增添，无所减少。 神这样做，是要人在他面前存敬畏的心。 15 现今的事以前就有了，将来的事也早已有了，并且 神使已过的事重新再来[b]。
世上的不公平
16 我又见日光之下，应有公平之处有奸恶，应有公义之处也有奸恶。 17 我心里说：“ 神必审判义人和恶人，因为在那里，各样事务，一切工作，都有定时。” 18 我心里说：“为世人的缘故， 神考验他们，让他们看见自己不过像走兽一样。” 19 因为世人遭遇的，走兽也遭遇，所遭遇的都一样：这个怎样死，那个也怎样死，他们都有一样的气息。人不能强于走兽，全是虚空； 20 都归一处，都是出于尘土，也都归于尘土。 21 谁知道人的气息是往上升，走兽的气息是下入地呢？[c] 22 总而言之，人能够在他经营的事上喜乐，是最好不过了，因为这是他应得的报偿。他身后的事谁能领他回来看呢？

神规划万事叫人敬畏他
3 万事都有定期，天下万务都有定时：
2 生有时，死有时；
栽种有时，拔出所种的也有时；
3 杀戮有时，医治有时；
拆毁有时，建造有时；
4 哭有时，笑有时；
哀恸有时，踊跃有时；
5 拋掷石头有时，堆聚石头有时；
拥抱有时，避免拥抱有时；
6 寻找有时，舍弃有时；
保存有时，拋弃有时；
7 撕裂有时，缝补有时；
静默有时，讲话有时；
8 爱有时，恨有时；
战争有时，和平有时。
9 作工的人在自己的劳碌上得到甚么益处呢？ 10 我看 神给予世人的担子，是要他们为此烦恼。 11 他使万事各按其时，成为美好；他又把永恒的意识放在人的心里；虽然这样，人还是不能察觉 神自始至终的作为。 12 我晓得人生最好是寻乐享福， 13 人人有吃有喝，在自己的一切劳碌中自得其乐；这就是 神的恩赐。 14 我知道 神所作的一切，都必永存，无可增添，无可减少； 神这样作，为要使人在他面前存敬畏的心。 15 现在有的，先前就有；将来有的，早已有了；因为 神使已过的事重新出现（“使已过的事重新出现”直译是“寻找被追赶的”）。
神的审判都有定时
16 我在日光之下又看见：审判的地方有奸恶，维护公义的地方也有奸恶。 17 我自己心里说：“ 神必审判义人和恶人，因为各样事务、各样工作都有定时。” 18 我自己心里说：“至于世人， 神要试验他们，使他们看见自己与牲畜无异。 19 因为世人所遭遇的与牲畜所遭遇的，都是一样：这个怎样死，那个也怎样死，两者的气息都是一样，所以人并不胜于牲畜。一切都是虚空。 20 大家都到一个地方去，都出于尘土，也都归回尘土。 21 有谁知道人的灵是往上升，牲畜的魂（“魂”的原文与“灵”〔3:21〕和“气息”〔3:19〕相同）是下降而入地呢？” 22 因此我看人最好是在自己所作的事上自得其乐，因为这也是他的分；谁能使他看见他自己死后的事呢？

A Time for Everything
3 There is a time(A) for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,(B)
3 a time to kill(C) and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent(D) and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
9 What do workers gain from their toil?(E) 10 I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race.(F) 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time.(G) He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet[a] no one can fathom(H) what God has done from beginning to end.(I) 12 I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. 13 That each of them may eat and drink,(J) and find satisfaction(K) in all their toil—this is the gift of God.(L) 14 I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.(M)
15 Whatever is has already been,(N)
and what will be has been before;(O)
and God will call the past to account.[b]
16 And I saw something else under the sun:
In the place of judgment—wickedness was there,
in the place of justice—wickedness was there.
17 I said to myself,
“God will bring into judgment(P)
both the righteous and the wicked,
for there will be a time for every activity,
a time to judge every deed.”(Q)
18 I also said to myself, “As for humans, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals.(R) 19 Surely the fate of human beings(S) is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath[c]; humans have no advantage over animals. Everything is meaningless. 20 All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return.(T) 21 Who knows if the human spirit rises upward(U) and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?”
22 So I saw that there is nothing better for a person than to enjoy their work,(V) because that is their lot.(W) For who can bring them to see what will happen after them?
