弟子7人の前に現れたイエス
21 後になって、イエスはガリラヤ湖で自分の弟子たちの前にもう一度現れた。これがその時に起きたことだ・・・ 2 シモン・ペテロ、トマス（双子と呼ばれた）、ガリラヤ地方のカナ出身のナタナエル、ゼベダイの息子2人、他にも2人の弟子が一緒にいた。 3 シモン・ペテロが言った。「俺、漁に行ってくるわ」
他の弟子たちも言った。「それじゃあ、俺たちも行くよ」そこで、彼ら全員で出て行き、小舟に乗り込んだ。彼らは夜通しずっと漁をしたのに、何も獲れなかった。
4 翌朝の早朝、イエスが岸辺に立っていた。しかし、弟子たちはその人がイエスだと気付いていなかった。 5 そして、イエスは彼らに言った。「お前ら～！魚は捕れたか～？」
「いやー、ダメだったー！」彼らは答えた。
6 イエスが言った。「なら、舟の右側に網を投げてみな！そこなら魚が捕れるぞ～！」彼らが言われた通りにすると、舟に引き上げられないほど大量の魚が獲れた！
7 その時だった。イエスにとても愛されていた弟子がペテロに言った。「あの男は主じゃないか！」主であると聞いたペテロは、自分の上着を体に巻いて（彼は仕事のため自分の服を脱いでいたのだ）水に飛び込んだ。 8 他の弟子たちは舟で岸まで進み、網の魚を岸辺にあげた。彼らの舟は岸辺からはそこまで遠く離れておらず、岸からは100mほどだった。 9 彼らが小舟から降りて岸に着くと、魚が炭火で焼かれていた。そこには食べるためのパンもあった。 10 すると、イエスが言った。「お前たちが獲ってきた魚を何匹か持って来てくれ！」
11 シモン・ペテロは小舟に行って、網を岸に引き上げた。大きな魚でいっぱいの網には、なんと153匹の魚が入っていた！しかも、そんなにもたくさんの魚が獲れたのにも関わらず、網は裂けていなかった。 12 イエスは彼らに言った。「こっちに来いよ、食べようぜ！」と。弟子たちは誰一人として恥をかきたくなかったので、「あなたは誰ですか？」とイエスに聞く者はいなかった。彼が主であることは彼らにもわかっていたのだ。 13 イエスはパンを取りに歩いて行き、そして彼らにそのパンをあげた。また、魚も同じように彼らにあげた。
14 これは、イエスが死から復活した後、彼が弟子の前に現れた3回目のことだった。
イエスはペテロに話しかける
15 彼らが食べ終えた後、イエスはシモン・ペテロに言った。「ヨハネの息子シモン。俺に対するお前の愛はここにいる誰よりも大きな愛か？」
ペテロは答えた。「王よ！愛してるよ。あなたはそれを知ってるじゃないか！」
それからイエスが彼に言った。「俺の小羊たちの世話を頼もう」
16 もう一度イエスは彼に言った。「ヨハネの息子シモン。俺を愛しているか？」
ペテロは答えた。「王よ！私が愛してることぐらい、あなたが知ってるじゃないか！」
それからイエスが言った。「俺の羊たちの世話を頼もう」
17 イエスは再び言った。「ヨハネの息子、シモンよ。俺を愛しているか？」
3回もイエスから「わたしを愛しているか？」と聞かれたペテロの心には悲しさがあった。彼は言った。「王よ！あなたは全部わかっているじゃないか。俺があなたを愛してるって知っているじゃないか！」
イエスは彼に言った。「俺の羊の世話を頼む！ 18 真実はこうだ！お前が若かったころ、お前は自分の帯を自分で結び、お前は行きたいところへ行った。だが、お前が歳をとれば他の誰かがその帯を結び、お前の行きたくないところへと彼らはお前を連れて行く」 19 （イエスはペテロがどのように死んで、神に栄光をもたらすかを示すためにこう言ったのだ）それから、イエスはペテロに言った。「俺についてこい！」
20 ペテロが振り返ると、後ろにはイエスにとても愛された弟子がいた。（この弟子は夕食の時、イエスに寄りかかっていてこう言った人だ。「主よ、あなたを差し出すのは誰ですか？」と） 21 ペテロはその弟子の1人が他の弟子たちの後ろにいるのを見て、イエスに聞いた。「主よ！彼は？彼はどうなんだ？」
22 イエスは答えた。「俺が戻ってくるまで、彼には生きていてほしい・・・。しかし、そんなことはお前にとって関係のないことだ。お前は俺についてくれば良い！」
23 こうしてイエスの弟子たちの間で、ある話が広まった。弟子たちが言っていたのは、この弟子は死なないのではないかということだ。だが、イエスは彼が死なないとは言っていなかった。イエスが言ったのは、「俺が戻ってくるまで、彼には生きていてほしい・・・。しかし、そんなことはお前にとって関係のないことだ」としか言っていない。
24 その弟子とは、これらのことを伝えている者。その者は、これら全てを今ここに書き出している者。私たちは、その者が言っていることは真実であると知っている。
25 イエスがしたことは他にもいっぱいあるが、もし1つ1つ全てを書き出していたら、全世界に存在する本の量を集めてもまだ書ききれないほどの量になるだろう。

21 このことがあってから、ガリラヤ湖のほとりで、イエスはもう一度、弟子たちの前に現れました。その時のいきさつはこうです。
2 シモン・ペテロ、トマス、ガリラヤのカナ出身のナタナエル、私の兄弟のヤコブ、それに私と、ほかに二人の弟子がいっしょにいました。 3 「漁に行くぞ」とシモン・ペテロが言いだしました。するとみんな、「それじゃあ、おれたちも」というわけで、そろって出かけました。小舟に乗り込み、漁が始まりました。ところが一晩中かかっても、小さな魚一匹とれません。 4 もう夜明けというころ、だれかが岸辺に立っているのが見えました。ぼんやりかすんでいるので、だれなのかはわかりません。 5 「魚はとれましたかー。」その人が声をかけてきました。「いやー、全然だめだよー。」 6 「では、舟の右側に網を下ろしてごらんなさい。きっと、たくさんとれますよ。」さっそくそのとおりにすると、どうでしょう。重くて引き上げられないほど、たくさんの魚がかかったのです。 7 その時、私ははっと気がつき、「おい、あの方は主だよ！」とペテロに言いました。それを聞くと、ペテロは裸だったので、あわてて上着をはおり、水に飛び込みました。 8 舟に残った私たちは、百メートルほど離れた岸辺まで、魚ではち切れんばかりの網を引いて、そろそろ進みました。 9 着いてみると、炭火がおこしてあります。その上では魚がいいぐあいに焼けており、パンもあります。 10 「今とった魚を少し持って来なさい。」 11 イエスにこう言われて、シモン・ペテロがまっ先に飛んで行き、網を陸に引き上げました。数えてみると、なんと大きな魚が百五十三匹もとれていて、しかも網はどこも破れていません。 12 「さあ、ここへ来て、朝ごはんにしなさい」とイエスはうながされます。「ほんとうに主ですか」とあえて尋ねる者は一人もいません。それほどはっきりわかったのです。 13 イエスはそばに来られ、パンと魚をめいめいに配ってくださいました。 14 死から復活されたあと、私たちに現れてくださったのは、これで三度目です。
15 食事がすむと、イエスはシモン・ペテロを見つめておっしゃいました。「ヨハネの子シモン。ほかのだれよりもわたしを愛しますか。」「はい、主よ。私があなたを愛することは、あなたがご存じです。」「それでは、わたしの小羊を養いなさい。」 16 イエスは、くり返しお尋ねになりました。「ヨハネの子シモン。ほんとうにわたしを愛していますか。」「はい、主よ。私があなたを愛することは、あなたがご存じです。」「それでは、わたしの羊の世話をしなさい。」 17 イエスはもう一度言われました。「ヨハネの子シモン。ほんとうにわたしを愛していますか。」三度こんな尋ね方をされたので、ペテロは心に痛みを感じながら答えました。「主よ。いっさいをご存じなのはあなたです。私があなたを愛することは、あなたがご存じです。」「それでは、わたしの羊を養いなさい。 18 あなたは若い時にはしたいことをし、行きたい所に行きました。だが、年をとると、そうはいかなくなります。あなたは自分の手を伸ばして差し出し、だれかほかの人が、行きたくもない所へあなたを引っぱって行くのです。」 19 こう言われたのには訳がありました。ペテロがどんな死に方をして、神の栄光を現すかを知らせようとなさったのです。それから、「わたしについて来なさい」と言われました。 20 ペテロがふり向くと、イエスに愛された弟子（使徒ヨハネ）がついて来るのを見ました。最後の夕食の席で、イエスに寄りかかって、「主よ。裏切る者はだれですか」と尋ねたあの弟子です。 21 すると、ペテロの好奇心が頭をもたげました。「主よ。彼はどうなんです？ どういう死に方をするのですか。」 22 「もう一度戻って来るまで、彼に生きていてほしいとわたしが思ったとしても、あなたとは何の関係もないでしょう。人のことは気にしないで、ただわたしについて来ればいいのです。」 23 このことから、その弟子は死なないといううわさがクリスチャンたちの間に広まりました。しかし、イエスはそう断言なさったわけではありません。ただ、「もう一度戻って来るまで彼に生きていてほしいとわたしが思ったとしても、あなたとは何の関係もないでしょう」と言われただけなのです。
24 その弟子とは、実は私（筆者）のことです。私はこれらの出来事を、見たとおり、ここに記録しました。この記録が正確なことは、私たちみんなが知っています。
25 イエスのなさったことは、ほかにもたくさんあります。それをいちいち書き記すとしたら、きりがないでしょう。世界中が本であふれるほど書いても、それでもまだ足りないと思います。

Jesus and the Miraculous Catch of Fish
21 Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples,(A) by the Sea of Galilee.[a](B) It happened this way: 2 Simon Peter, Thomas(C) (also known as Didymus[b]), Nathanael(D) from Cana in Galilee,(E) the sons of Zebedee,(F) and two other disciples were together. 3 “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.(G)
4 Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus.(H)
5 He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?”
“No,” they answered.
6 He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.(I)
7 Then the disciple whom Jesus loved(J) said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. 8 The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred yards.[c] 9 When they landed, they saw a fire(K) of burning coals there with fish on it,(L) and some bread.
10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” 11 So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. 12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish.(M) 14 This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples(N) after he was raised from the dead.
Jesus Reinstates Peter
15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”
“Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”(O)
Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”(P)
16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”(Q)
17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?”(R) He said, “Lord, you know all things;(S) you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.(T) 18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death(U) by which Peter would glorify God.(V) Then he said to him, “Follow me!”(W)
20 Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved(X) was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, “Lord, who is going to betray you?”)(Y) 21 When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?”
22 Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return,(Z) what is that to you? You must follow me.”(AA) 23 Because of this, the rumor spread among the believers(AB) that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?”
24 This is the disciple who testifies to these things(AC) and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true.(AD)
25 Jesus did many other things as well.(AE) If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.

21 After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself.
2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.
3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.
4 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.
5 Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.
6 And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.
7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.
8 And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.
9 As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.
10 Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.
11 Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.
12 Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.
13 Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.
14 This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.
15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdest thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.
19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.
20 Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?
21 Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?
22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.
23 Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?
24 This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.
25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
