9 แล้วข้าพเจ้าได้ยินพระองค์เปล่งพระสุรเสียงอันดังว่า “จงนำผู้รักษาการณ์ประจำกรุงนี้มาที่นี่ ให้แต่ละนายถืออาวุธของตนมาด้วย” 2 และข้าพเจ้าเห็นชายหกคนมาจากทางประตูด้านบนซึ่งหันไปทางทิศเหนือ แต่ละคนถืออาวุธพิษสงร้ายกาจมาด้วย พวกเขามาพร้อมกับชายคนหนึ่งนุ่งห่มผ้าลินิน ผู้มีหีบเครื่องเขียนอยู่ข้างกาย พวกเขาเข้ามายืนอยู่ข้างแท่นบูชาทองสัมฤทธิ์
3 พระเกียรติสิริของพระเจ้าแห่งอิสราเอลเคลื่อนขึ้นจากเหนือเครูบที่เคยสถิตมายังธรณีประตูพระวิหาร แล้วองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าตรัสเรียกชายที่นุ่งห่มผ้าลินินและมีหีบเครื่องเขียนอยู่ข้างกายนั้น 4 พระองค์ตรัสกับเขาว่า “จงไปทั่วกรุงเยรูซาเล็ม กาเครื่องหมายบนหน้าผากของบรรดาผู้ที่เศร้าโศกและคร่ำครวญเพราะสิ่งที่น่าเกลียดชิงชังทั้งสิ้นซึ่งคนทั้งหลายทำกันในกรุงนี้”
5 ขณะที่ข้าพเจ้าฟังอยู่ ก็ได้ยินพระองค์ตรัสกับคนอื่นๆ ว่า “จงตามเขาไปทั่วกรุงและเข่นฆ่าทุกคน อย่าได้สงสารหรือเมตตาปรานีเลย 6 จงฆ่าทั้งคนแก่ หนุ่มสาว ผู้หญิง และเด็ก แต่อย่าแตะต้องผู้ที่มีเครื่องหมายนั้น จงเริ่มต้นตั้งแต่สถานนมัสการของเรานี้เลย” คนเหล่านั้นจึงตั้งต้นฆ่าตั้งแต่ผู้อาวุโสซึ่งอยู่ที่หน้าพระวิหาร
7 แล้วพระองค์ตรัสว่า “จงทำให้พระวิหารเป็นมลทิน และทิ้งร่างผู้ที่ถูกประหารไว้ให้เกลื่อนลาน จงไปเถิด!” พวกเขาจึงออกไปและตั้งต้นฆ่าคนทั่วกรุง 8 ขณะที่พวกเขากำลังฆ่าคนอยู่นั้น ข้าพเจ้าก็อยู่แต่ลำพัง ข้าพเจ้าก็ซบหน้าลงร้องทูลว่า “ข้าแต่พระยาห์เวห์องค์เจ้าชีวิต! พระองค์จะทรงทำลายล้างคนหยิบมือที่เหลืออยู่ในอิสราเอลไปหมดด้วยพระพิโรธที่ทรงระบายเหนือเยรูซาเล็มครั้งนี้หรือ?”
9 พระองค์ตรัสตอบว่า “บาปของพงศ์พันธุ์อิสราเอลและยูดาห์ใหญ่หลวงนัก แผ่นดินเต็มไปด้วยการนองเลือดและความอยุติธรรม พวกเขากล่าวว่า ‘องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงละทิ้งดินแดนนี้ไปเสียแล้ว องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าไม่ทรงเห็น’ 10 ฉะนั้นเราจะไม่เอ็นดูสงสารหรือไว้ชีวิตเขา แต่เราจะให้สิ่งที่พวกเขาทำไว้นั้นย้อนกลับมาตกแก่พวกเขาเอง”

2 แล้วผมเห็นคนหกคน กำลังเดินมาจากทางประตูที่อยู่ด้านบนขึ้นไป ประตูนี้ตั้งอยู่ทางทิศเหนือ ในมือแต่ละคนถือเครื่องมือสำหรับทำลายของเขาอยู่ ชายคนหนึ่งที่มากับพวกเขาสวมชุดลินิน[a] และมีชุดเครื่องเขียนห้อยไว้ที่เอว พวกเขาได้เข้ามายืนอยู่ที่ข้างๆแท่นบูชาทองสัมฤทธิ์ 3 ขณะนั้น รัศมีแห่งพระเจ้าของอิสราเอลได้ขึ้นมาอยู่เหนือบรรดาเครูบ ซึ่งเป็นที่ที่รัศมีนั้นเคยปรากฏมาแล้ว แล้วรัศมีนั้นได้เคลื่อนที่ไปที่ธรณีประตูของวิหาร แล้วพระยาห์เวห์ได้เรียกชายคนนั้นที่สวมใส่ชุดลินินและมีชุดเครื่องเขียนอยู่ที่เอวของเขา

5 ในขณะที่ผมฟังอยู่นั้น พระองค์ได้พูดกับห้าคนที่เหลือว่า
“ตามเขาไปทั่วทั้งเมือง ใครที่ไม่มีเครื่องหมายที่หน้าผาก ให้ฆ่าทิ้งให้หมด ไม่ต้องสงสารหรือเห็นอกเห็นใจ 6 ฆ่าให้หมด ไม่ว่าจะเป็นคนแก่ คนหนุ่มสาว ผู้หญิง หรือเด็กๆ แต่ห้ามแตะต้องคนที่มีเครื่องหมายอยู่บนหน้าผาก ให้เริ่มต้นจากสถานที่ศักดิ์สิทธิ์ของเราไป” ดังนั้น พวกเขาจึงเริ่มฆ่าพวกผู้นำอาวุโสที่อยู่หน้าวิหาร
7 แล้วพระองค์พูดกับพวกเขาว่า “ทำให้วิหารนี้เสื่อมความศักดิ์สิทธิ์ไป ให้ลานนี้เต็มไปด้วยซากศพ ไปทำเดี๋ยวนี้เลย” ดังนั้น พวกเขาจึงออกไปและเริ่มฆ่าผู้คนไปทั่วทั้งเมือง

The Wicked Are Slain
9 Then He called out in my hearing with a loud voice, saying, “Let those who have charge over the city draw near, each with a [a]deadly weapon in his hand.” 2 And suddenly six men came from the direction of the upper gate, which faces north, each with his [b]battle-ax in his hand. (A)One man among them was clothed with linen and had a writer’s inkhorn [c]at his side. They went in and stood beside the bronze altar.
3 Now (B)the glory of the God of Israel had gone up from the cherub, where it had been, to the threshold of the [d]temple. And He called to the man clothed with linen, who had the writer’s inkhorn at his side; 4 and the Lord said to him, “Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and put (C)a mark on the foreheads of the men (D)who sigh and cry over all the abominations that are done within it.”
5 To the others He said in my [e]hearing, “Go after him through the city and (E)kill;[f] (F)do not let your eye spare, nor have any pity. 6 (G)Utterly[g] slay old and young men, maidens and little children and women; but (H)do not come near anyone on whom is the mark; and (I)begin at My sanctuary.” (J)So they began with the elders who were before the [h]temple. 7 Then He said to them, “Defile the [i]temple, and fill the courts with the slain. Go out!” And they went out and killed in the city.
8 So it was, that while they were killing them, I was left alone; and I (K)fell on my face and cried out, and said, (L)“Ah, Lord God! Will You destroy all the remnant of Israel in pouring out Your fury on Jerusalem?”
9 Then He said to me, “The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great, and (M)the land is full of bloodshed, and the city full of perversity; for they say, (N)‘The Lord has forsaken the land, and (O)the Lord does not see!’ 10 And as for Me also, My (P)eye will neither spare, nor will I have pity, but (Q)I will recompense their deeds on their own head.”
11 Just then, the man clothed with linen, who had the inkhorn at his side, reported back and said, “I have done as You commanded me.”

9 He cried also in mine ears with a loud voice, saying, Cause them that have charge over the city to draw near, even every man with his destroying weapon in his hand.
2 And, behold, six men came from the way of the higher gate, which lieth toward the north, and every man a slaughter weapon in his hand; and one man among them was clothed with linen, with a writer's inkhorn by his side: and they went in, and stood beside the brasen altar.
3 And the glory of the God of Israel was gone up from the cherub, whereupon he was, to the threshold of the house. And he called to the man clothed with linen, which had the writer's inkhorn by his side;
4 And the Lord said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.
5 And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity:
6 Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house.
7 And he said unto them, Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain: go ye forth. And they went forth, and slew in the city.
8 And it came to pass, while they were slaying them, and I was left, that I fell upon my face, and cried, and said, Ah Lord God! wilt thou destroy all the residue of Israel in thy pouring out of thy fury upon Jerusalem?
9 Then said he unto me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceeding great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perverseness: for they say, The Lord hath forsaken the earth, and the Lord seeth not.
10 And as for me also, mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity, but I will recompense their way upon their head.
11 And, behold, the man clothed with linen, which had the inkhorn by his side, reported the matter, saying, I have done as thou hast commanded me.
