Непредсказуемость будущего
11 Пускай хлеб свой по воде,
ведь после многих дней ты вновь найдёшь его.[a]
2 Раздели то, что ты имеешь, на семь или даже восемь частей,
потому что не знаешь, какая беда может случиться в стране.[b]
3 Если тучи полны воды,
то они прольют дождь на землю.
Если дерево упадёт на юг или на север,
то куда оно упадёт, там и останется.
4 Кто наблюдает за ветром, никогда не посеет,
и кто смотрит на облака, никогда не пожнёт.
5 Как не знаешь путей ветра
и того, как ребёнок формируется в утробе матери,
так же не можешь постичь дел Всевышнего,
Создателя всего.
6 Сей семена утром,
да и вечером не давай отдыха своим рукам,
потому что ты не знаешь,
то или другое будет удачнее,
или и то, и другое будет одинаково хорошо.
Наслаждайся жизнью, но помни своего Создателя
7 Сладок свет,
и приятно для глаз видеть солнце.
8 Сколько бы лет ни жил человек,
пусть всегда веселится.
Но пусть помнит о днях тьмы,
ведь их будет много.
Всё, что случится, – пустое.
9 Веселись, юноша, пока молодой,
пусть твоё сердце радуется в дни юности твоей.
Следуй влечению сердца твоего
и желанию глаз твоих,
но знай, что за всё это
Всевышний приведёт тебя на суд.
10 Итак, гони беспокойство из сердца твоего
и береги от страданий тело твоё,
потому что быстротечны и детство, и юность.

Revised Geneva Translation
11 Cast your bread upon the waters. For after many days, you shall find it.
2 Give one portion to seven, and also to eight. For you do not know what evil shall be upon the Earth.
3 If the clouds are full, they will pour forth rain upon the Earth. And if the tree falls toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falls, there it shall be.
4 He who observes the wind shall not sow. And he who regards the clouds, shall not reap.
5 As you do not know which is the way of the spirit, or how the bones grow in the womb of she who is with child, so you do not know the work of God, Who works all.
6 In the morning, sow your seed. And in the evening, do not let your hand rest. For you do not know which shall prosper, this or that, or whether both alike shall be good.
7 Surely, the light is a pleasant thing. And it is a good thing to the eyes to see the Sun.
8 Though a man lives many years, he rejoices in them all. Yet, he shall remember the days of darkness, because they are many. All that comes is vanity.
9 Rejoice in your youth, O young man! And let your heart cheer yourself in the days of your youth! And walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things, God will bring you to judgment.
10 Therefore, take away grief from your heart, and make evil depart from your flesh. For childhood and youth are vanity.

The Value of Diligence
11 Cast your bread (A)upon the waters,
(B)For you will find it after many days.
2 (C)Give a serving (D)to seven, and also to eight,
(E)For you do not know what evil will be on the earth.
3 If the clouds are full of rain,
They empty themselves upon the earth;
And if a tree falls to the south or the north,
In the place where the tree falls, there it shall lie.
4 He who observes the wind will not sow,
And he who regards the clouds will not reap.
5 As (F)you do not know what is the way of the [a]wind,
(G)Or how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child,
So you do not know the works of God who makes everything.
6 In the morning sow your seed,
And in the evening do not withhold your hand;
For you do not know which will prosper,
Either this or that,
Or whether both alike will be good.
7 Truly the light is sweet,
And it is pleasant for the eyes (H)to behold the sun;
8 But if a man lives many years
And (I)rejoices in them all,
Yet let him (J)remember the days of darkness,
For they will be many.
All that is coming is vanity.
Seek God in Early Life
9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth,
And let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth;
(K)Walk in the [b]ways of your heart,
And [c]in the sight of your eyes;
But know that for all these
(L)God will bring you into judgment.
10 Therefore remove [d]sorrow from your heart,
And (M)put away evil from your flesh,
(N)For childhood and [e]youth are vanity.
