Якуб отпускает Вениамина в Египет
43 В той земле по-прежнему свирепствовал голод. 2 Когда они съели всё зерно, привезённое из Египта, отец сказал им:
– Вернитесь и купите нам ещё немного еды.
3 Но Иуда сказал ему:
– Тот человек нас строго предупредил: «Не показывайтесь мне на глаза, если с вами не будет вашего брата». 4 Если ты отпустишь с нами брата, то мы пойдём и купим для тебя еды. 5 Но если ты не отпустишь его, мы не пойдём, потому что тот человек сказал нам: «Не показывайтесь мне на глаза, если с вами не будет вашего брата».
6 – Зачем вы навели на меня эту беду, зачем сказали тому человеку, что у вас есть ещё один брат? – спросил Исраил.
7 Они ответили:
– Тот человек подробно расспрашивал нас о нас самих и о нашей семье: «Жив ли ещё ваш отец? Нет ли у вас ещё одного брата?» Мы просто отвечали на его вопросы. Откуда нам было знать, что он скажет: «Приведите сюда вашего брата»?
8 Иуда сказал Исраилу, своему отцу:
– Отпусти мальчика со мной, и мы тотчас же отправимся, чтобы все мы выжили и не погибли: и мы, и ты, и наши дети. 9 Я лично буду за него порукой; с меня лично ты спросишь за него. Если я не приведу его к тебе и не поставлю здесь перед тобой, я буду виноват перед тобой до самой смерти. 10 Если бы мы не медлили, то могли бы пойти и вернуться уже дважды.
11 Тогда их отец Исраил сказал им:
– Если этого не избежать, то сделайте вот что: положите в сумки лучшие плоды этой земли и отнесите в дар тому человеку – бальзам и мёд, специи и мирру, фисташки и миндаль. 12 Возьмите вдвое больше серебра, чтобы вам принести с собой и то, что было положено обратно в ваши мешки: возможно, это была ошибка. 13 Возьмите и вашего брата и, не медля, идите снова к тому человеку. 14 Пусть Бог Всемогущий дарует вам милость перед ним, чтобы он позволил и другому вашему брату, и Вениамину вернуться с вами. Что же до меня, то если мне суждено лишиться детей, пусть я лишусь.
Второе прибытие братьев Юсуфа в Египет
15 Они взяли подарки и вдвое больше серебра, затем взяли Вениамина, немедля отправились в Египет и предстали перед Юсуфом. 16 Когда Юсуф увидел, что Вениамин с ними, он сказал своему управляющему:
– Отведи этих людей ко мне в дом, заколи что-нибудь из скота и приготовь обед; они будут есть со мной в полдень.
17 Человек сделал, как ему было велено, и привёл их в дом Юсуфа. 18 Они испугались, когда их привели к нему в дом, потому что подумали: «Нас привели сюда из-за серебра, которое вернулось в наши мешки в первый раз. Он хочет напасть на нас, и одолеть, и взять в рабство, и забрать наших ослов».
19 Они подошли к управляющему Юсуфа и заговорили с ним у входа в дом:
20 – Послушай, господин, – сказали они, – мы уже приходили сюда один раз купить еды, 21 но когда мы остановились на ночь и развязали мешки, каждый из нас нашёл там своё серебро, полным весом; поэтому мы принесли его обратно. 22 Мы принесли с собой и ещё серебра, чтобы купить еды, и мы не знаем, кто в прошлый раз положил наше серебро к нам в мешки.
23 Он ответил:
– Всё в порядке, не бойтесь. Ваш Бог – Бог вашего отца – положил это сокровище в ваши мешки, а я получил ваше серебро.
Затем он вывел к ним Шимона.
24 Управляющий привёл братьев в дом Юсуфа, дал им воды вымыть ноги и дал корма их ослам. 25 Они приготовили подарки к прибытию Юсуфа в полдень, потому что им сказали, что они будут там обедать.
26 Когда Юсуф пришёл домой, они преподнесли ему подарки и склонились перед ним до земли. 27 Он спросил их о здоровье, потом сказал:

28 Они ответили:

И почтительно поклонились ему. 29 Он оглянулся и увидел своего брата Вениамина, сына своей матери.
Он спросил:
– Это ваш младший брат, тот, о котором вы говорили мне? Всевышний да будет милостив к тебе, мой сын.
30 Глубоко тронутый видом брата, он поспешно ушёл и искал укромного места. Он вошёл к себе в комнату и там разрыдался. 31 Затем, умыв лицо, он вновь вышел к гостям и, взяв себя в руки, сказал:
– Подавайте еду.
32 Ему подали отдельно, братьям отдельно, и египтянам, которые ели с ним, отдельно, потому что египтяне не могли есть с евреями, это было мерзко для египтян. 33 Братьев усадили перед ним по возрасту, от первенца до младшего; и они глядели друг на друга в изумлении. 34 Им подавали кушанья со стола Юсуфа, и доля Вениамина была впятеро больше, чем у других. Они пировали и пили с ним вволю.

43 And the famine was sore in the land.
2 And it came to pass, when they had eaten up the corn which they had brought out of Egypt, their father said unto them, Go again, buy us a little food.
3 And Judah spake unto him, saying, The man did solemnly protest unto us, saying, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.
4 If thou wilt send our brother with us, we will go down and buy thee food:
5 But if thou wilt not send him, we will not go down: for the man said unto us, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.
6 And Israel said, Wherefore dealt ye so ill with me, as to tell the man whether ye had yet a brother?
7 And they said, The man asked us straitly of our state, and of our kindred, saying, Is your father yet alive? have ye another brother? and we told him according to the tenor of these words: could we certainly know that he would say, Bring your brother down?
8 And Judah said unto Israel his father, Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go; that we may live, and not die, both we, and thou, and also our little ones.
9 I will be surety for him; of my hand shalt thou require him: if I bring him not unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me bear the blame for ever:
10 For except we had lingered, surely now we had returned this second time.
11 And their father Israel said unto them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds:
12 And take double money in your hand; and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your sacks, carry it again in your hand; peradventure it was an oversight:
13 Take also your brother, and arise, go again unto the man:
14 And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin. If I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.
15 And the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand and Benjamin; and rose up, and went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph.
16 And when Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the ruler of his house, Bring these men home, and slay, and make ready; for these men shall dine with me at noon.
17 And the man did as Joseph bade; and the man brought the men into Joseph's house.
18 And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Joseph's house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen, and our asses.
19 And they came near to the steward of Joseph's house, and they communed with him at the door of the house,
20 And said, O sir, we came indeed down at the first time to buy food:
21 And it came to pass, when we came to the inn, that we opened our sacks, and, behold, every man's money was in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight: and we have brought it again in our hand.
22 And other money have we brought down in our hands to buy food: we cannot tell who put our money in our sacks.
23 And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them.
24 And the man brought the men into Joseph's house, and gave them water, and they washed their feet; and he gave their asses provender.
25 And they made ready the present against Joseph came at noon: for they heard that they should eat bread there.
26 And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth.
27 And he asked them of their welfare, and said, Is your father well, the old man of whom ye spake? Is he yet alive?
28 And they answered, Thy servant our father is in good health, he is yet alive. And they bowed down their heads, and made obeisance.
29 And he lifted up his eyes, and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother's son, and said, Is this your younger brother, of whom ye spake unto me? And he said, God be gracious unto thee, my son.
30 And Joseph made haste; for his bowels did yearn upon his brother: and he sought where to weep; and he entered into his chamber, and wept there.
31 And he washed his face, and went out, and refrained himself, and said, Set on bread.
32 And they set on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians, which did eat with him, by themselves: because the Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews; for that is an abomination unto the Egyptians.
33 And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright, and the youngest according to his youth: and the men marvelled one at another.
34 And he took and sent messes unto them from before him: but Benjamin's mess was five times so much as any of their's. And they drank, and were merry with him.

Joseph’s Brothers Return with Benjamin
43 Now the famine was (A)severe in the land. 2 And it came to pass, when they had eaten up the grain which they had brought from Egypt, that their father said to them, “Go (B)back, buy us a little food.”
3 But Judah spoke to him, saying, “The man solemnly warned us, saying, ‘You shall not see my face unless your (C)brother is with you.’ 4 If you send our brother with us, we will go down and buy you food. 5 But if you will not send him, we will not go down; for the man said to us, ‘You shall not see my face unless your brother is with you.’ ”
6 And Israel said, “Why did you deal so [a]wrongfully with me as to tell the man whether you had still another brother?”
7 But they said, “The man asked us pointedly about ourselves and our family, saying, ‘Is your father still alive? Have you another brother?’ And we told him according to these words. Could we possibly have known that he would say, ‘Bring your brother down’?”
8 Then Judah said to Israel his father, “Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go, that we may (D)live and not die, both we and you and also our little ones. 9 I myself will be surety for him; from my hand you shall require him. (E)If I do not bring him back to you and set him before you, then let me bear the blame forever. 10 For if we had not lingered, surely by now we would have returned this second time.”
11 And their father Israel said to them, “If it must be so, then do this: Take some of the best fruits of the land in your vessels and (F)carry down a present for the man—a little (G)balm and a little honey, spices and myrrh, pistachio nuts and almonds. 12 Take double money in your hand, and take back in your hand the money (H)that was returned in the mouth of your sacks; perhaps it was an oversight. 13 Take your brother also, and arise, go back to the man. 14 And may God (I)Almighty (J)give you mercy before the man, that he may release your other brother and Benjamin. (K)If I am bereaved, I am bereaved!”
15 So the men took that present and Benjamin, and they took double money in their hand, and arose and went (L)down to Egypt; and they stood before Joseph. 16 When Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the (M)steward of his house, “Take these men to my home, and slaughter [b]an animal and make ready; for these men will dine with me at noon.” 17 Then the man did as Joseph ordered, and the man brought the men into Joseph’s house.
18 Now the men were (N)afraid because they were brought into Joseph’s house; and they said, “It is because of the money, which was returned in our sacks the first time, that we are brought in, so that he may [c]make a case against us and seize us, to take us as slaves with our donkeys.”
19 When they drew near to the steward of Joseph’s house, they talked with him at the door of the house, 20 and said, “O sir, (O)we indeed came down the first time to buy food; 21 but (P)it happened, when we came to the encampment, that we opened our sacks, and there, each man’s money was in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight; so we have brought it back in our hand. 22 And we have brought down other money in our hands to buy food. We do not know who put our money in our sacks.”
23 But he said, “Peace be with you, do not be afraid. Your God and the God of your father has given you treasure in your sacks; I had your money.” Then he brought (Q)Simeon out to them.
24 So the man brought the men into Joseph’s house and (R)gave them water, and they washed their feet; and he gave their donkeys feed. 25 Then they made the present ready for Joseph’s coming at noon, for they heard that they would eat bread there.
26 And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house, and (S)bowed down before him to the earth. 27 Then he asked them about their well-being, and said, “Is your father well, the old man (T)of whom you spoke? Is he still alive?”
28 And they answered, “Your servant our father is in good health; he is still alive.” (U)And they bowed their heads down and prostrated themselves.
29 Then he lifted his eyes and saw his brother Benjamin, (V)his mother’s son, and said, “Is this your younger brother (W)of whom you spoke to me?” And he said, “God be gracious to you, my son.” 30 Now (X)his heart yearned for his brother; so Joseph made haste and sought somewhere to weep. And he went into his chamber and (Y)wept there. 31 Then he washed his face and came out; and he restrained himself, and said, “Serve the (Z)bread.”
32 So they set him a place by himself, and them by themselves, and the Egyptians who ate with him by themselves; because the Egyptians could not eat food with the (AA)Hebrews, for that is (AB)an abomination to the Egyptians. 33 And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his (AC)birthright and the youngest according to his youth; and the men looked in astonishment at one another. 34 Then he took servings to them from before him, but Benjamin’s serving was (AD)five times as much as any of theirs. So they drank and were merry with him.
