33 Дође ми опет реч Господња: 2 „Сине човечији, говори својим сународницима. Реци им: ’Ако доведем мач на неку земље, а народ земље узме једног човека из својих крајева и поставе га за чувара, 3 и ако он види да мач долази на ту земљу, па затруби у трубу и опомене народ, 4 али се онај који чује глас трубе не да опоменути, а мач дође и покоси га, његова ће крв пасти на његову главу. 5 Пошто је чуо глас трубе, а није се дао опоменути, његова ће крв бити на њему. Да се дао опоменути, спасао би себи живот. 6 Ако чувар види да мач долази, а не затруби у трубу, те народ не буде опоменут, а дође мач и покоси једног од њих, тај ће платити животом за своју кривицу, али ћу одговорност за његову крв тражити од чувара.’
7 Тебе сам, сине човечији, поставио за чувара дому Израиљевом. Кад чујеш реч из мојих уста, пренеси им моју опомену. 8 Кад кажем опакоме: ’Заиста ћеш умрети’, а ти му не кажеш ништа како би га опоменуо да се окане свог опаког пута, опаки ће свакако умрети због своје кривице, али ћу одговорност за његову смрт тражити од тебе. 9 Али ако опоменеш опаког да се врати са свог пута, а он се не врати са свог пута, умреће за своју кривицу. Ти ћеш, пак, спасти себи живот.
10 А ти, сине човечији, реци дому Израиљеву: ’Ви говорите: наши преступи и греси нас терете, и због њих пропадамо. Како ћемо опстати!’ 11 Реци им: ’Живота ми мога – говори Господ Бог – није мени мило да опаки умре, него да се врати са свог пута и живи. Вратите се! Вратите се са својих злих путева! Зашто да изгинете, доме Израиљев?’
12 Ти, сине човечији, реци својим сународницима: ’Праведника неће спасти његова праведност када згреши, нити ће опакост довести опакога до његове пропасти када се окане своје опакости. 27 Овако им реци: ’Говори Господ Бог: живота ми мога, они који живе у рушевинама изгинуће од мача, оне који су напољу даћу зверима за храну, а они који су у склоништима и пећинама помреће од заразе. 28 Тако ћу земљу претворити у крајњу пустош, па ће нестати понос њене силе. Горе ће Израиљеве опустети, и више нико тамо неће пролазити. 29 И знаће да сам ја Господ, када претворим земљу у крајњу пустош због гадости које су починили.’
30 Сине човечији, твоји сународници говоре о теби уз зидове и код кућних врата. Говоре један другом: ’Дођите и послушајте реч која је дошла од Господа!’ 31 Долазе к теби као кад народ долази на сабор; мој народ седа испред тебе и слуша твоје речи, али их не извршава; пријају им у устима, а срце им иде за непоштеним добитком. 32 Ти си за њих као певач умилног гласа, који пева љубавне песме и вешто свира; слушају твоје речи, али их не извршавају.
33 Али кад ово дође, а ево, већ долази, тада ће знати да је пророк био међу њима.“

33 Дође ми реч ГОСПОДЊА: 2 »Сине човечији, реци својим сународницима: ‚Када доведем мач на неку земљу, а народ те земље изабере једнога од својих људи и постави га за свога осматрача, 3 и он види мач где долази на земљу, па дуне у овнујски рог да упозори народ, 4 тада, ко чује рог а оглуши се на опомену, и мач дође и узме му живот, сам ће бити крив за своју смрт. 5 Зато што је чуо звук трубе а није примио опомену, сам ће бити крив за своју смрт. Да се није оглушио на опомену, спасао би се. 6 Али, ако осматрач види мач где долази, а не дуне у овнујски рог да опомене народ и мач дође и узме живот некоме међу народом, тај ће погинути због свога греха, али ја ћу осматрача сматрати одговорним за његову смрт.‘
7 »Сине човечији, тебе сам поставио за осматрача израелском народу. 17 »А твоји сународници говоре: ‚То што Господ чини није правично.‘ Није правично то што они чине! 18 Ако се праведан човек одврати од своје праведности и почини зло, умреће због тога. 19 А ако се опаки одврати од своје опакости и чини оно што је право и праведно, због тога ће живети. 20 А ви говорите: ‚То што Господ чини није правично.‘ Али ја ћу, израелски народе, судити сваком од вас према ономе што чини.«
Објашњење пада Јерусалима
21 Петога дана десетог месеца дванаесте године нашег изгнанства, дође ми један бегунац из Јерусалима и рече: »Град је пао!«
22 А вече пре него што ће тај човек доћи, рука ГОСПОДЊА била је на мени и он ми је отворио уста пре него што је човек дошао мени следећег јутра. Тако су ми се уста отворила и више нисам био нем.
23 Дође ми реч ГОСПОДЊА: 24 »Сине човечији, они који живе у оним развалинама у земљи Израеловој говоре: ‚Авраам је био само један, а ипак је добио у посед целу земљу. А нас је много – значи земља је дата нама у посед.‘ 25 Зато им реци: ‚Овако каже Господ ГОСПОД: Једете месо у ком још има крви, славите идоле[a] и проливате крв – па зар треба да поседујете земљу? 26 Ослањате се на свој мач, чините гнусобе и сваки од вас обешчашћује жену свога ближњега – па зар треба да поседујете земљу?‘
27 »Реци им: ‚Овако каже Господ ГОСПОД: Тако ми живота, они који су остали у развалинама, пашће од мача, оне који су на отвореном, даћу дивљим животињама да их прождру, а они у високим утврђењима и пећинама умреће од помора. 28 Учинићу од земље голу пустош. Доћи ће крај снази којом се дичила, а горе Израелове ће опустети, па нико више неће преко њих прелазити. 29 Тада ће знати да сам ја ГОСПОД, када од земље учиним голу пустош због свих гнусоба које су чинили.‘
30 »А о теби, сине човечији, твоји сународници причају међу собом уза зидове и на кућним вратима, говорећи један другом: ‚Дођи да чујеш реч која долази од ГОСПОДА.‘ 31 Мој народ ти долази, као што обично чини, и седа пред тебе да слуша твоје речи, али их не извршава. Похотне речи су им на уснама, а срце им жуди за непоштеним добитком. 32 Ти си за њих као неко ко умилним гласом пева љубавне песме и лепо свира, јер они слушају твоје речи, али их не извршавају.
33 »Али, када се све ово обистини – а обистиниће се – тада ће знати да је међу њима био пророк.«

33 Again the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
2 Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:
3 If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;
4 Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.
5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul.
6 But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand.
7 So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.
8 When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
9 Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.
10 Therefore, O thou son of man, speak unto the house of Israel; Thus ye speak, saying, If our transgressions and our sins be upon us, and we pine away in them, how should we then live?
11 Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
12 Therefore, thou son of man, say unto the children of thy people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression: as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall thereby in the day that he turneth from his wickedness; neither shall the righteous be able to live for his righteousness in the day that he sinneth.
13 When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he hath committed, he shall die for it.
14 Again, when I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; if he turn from his sin, and do that which is lawful and right;
15 If the wicked restore the pledge, give again that he had robbed, walk in the statutes of life, without committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die.
16 None of his sins that he hath committed shall be mentioned unto him: he hath done that which is lawful and right; he shall surely live.
17 Yet the children of thy people say, The way of the Lord is not equal: but as for them, their way is not equal.
18 When the righteous turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, he shall even die thereby.
19 But if the wicked turn from his wickedness, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall live thereby.
20 Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. O ye house of Israel, I will judge you every one after his ways.
21 And it came to pass in the twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth month, in the fifth day of the month, that one that had escaped out of Jerusalem came unto me, saying, The city is smitten.
22 Now the hand of the Lord was upon me in the evening, afore he that was escaped came; and had opened my mouth, until he came to me in the morning; and my mouth was opened, and I was no more dumb.
23 Then the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
24 Son of man, they that inhabit those wastes of the land of Israel speak, saying, Abraham was one, and he inherited the land: but we are many; the land is given us for inheritance.
25 Wherefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Ye eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes toward your idols, and shed blood: and shall ye possess the land?
26 Ye stand upon your sword, ye work abomination, and ye defile every one his neighbour's wife: and shall ye possess the land?
27 Say thou thus unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; As I live, surely they that are in the wastes shall fall by the sword, and him that is in the open field will I give to the beasts to be devoured, and they that be in the forts and in the caves shall die of the pestilence.
28 For I will lay the land most desolate, and the pomp of her strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, that none shall pass through.
29 Then shall they know that I am the Lord, when I have laid the land most desolate because of all their abominations which they have committed.
30 Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the Lord.
31 And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.
32 And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not.
33 And when this cometh to pass, (lo, it will come,) then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.
Ezekiel 33

The Watchman and His Message
33 Again the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 2 “Son of man, speak to (A)the children of your people, and say to them: (B)‘When I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from their territory and make him their (C)watchman, 3 when he sees the sword coming upon the land, if he blows the trumpet and warns the people, 4 then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does (D)not take warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, (E)his blood shall be on his own head. 5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, but did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But he who takes warning will [a]save his life. 6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, (F)he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.’
7 (G)“So you, son of man: I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear a word from My mouth and warn them for Me. 8 When I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you shall surely die!’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand. 9 Nevertheless if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have [b]delivered your soul.
10 “Therefore you, O son of man, say to the house of Israel: ‘Thus you say, “If our transgressions and our sins lie upon us, and we (H)pine[c] away in them, (I)how can we then live?” ’ 11 Say to them: ‘As I live,’ says the Lord God, (J)‘I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked (K)turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For (L)why should you die, O house of Israel?’
The Fairness of God’s Judgment
12 “Therefore you, O son of man, say to the children of your people: ‘The (M)righteousness of the righteous man shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression; as for the wickedness of the wicked, (N)he shall not fall because of it in the day that he turns from his wickedness; nor shall the righteous be able to live because of his righteousness in the day that he sins.’ 13 When I say to the righteous that he shall surely live, (O)but he trusts in his own righteousness and commits iniquity, none of his righteous works shall be remembered; but because of the iniquity that he has committed, he shall die. 14 Again, (P)when I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ if he turns from his sin and does [d]what is lawful and [e]right, 15 if the wicked (Q)restores the pledge, (R)gives back what he has stolen, and walks in (S)the statutes of life without committing iniquity, he shall surely live; he shall not die. 16 (T)None of his sins which he has committed shall be remembered against him; he has done what is lawful and right; he shall surely live.
17 (U)“Yet the children of your people say, ‘The way of the Lord is not [f]fair.’ But it is their way which is not fair! 18 (V)When the righteous turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, he shall die because of it. 19 But when the wicked turns from his wickedness and does what is lawful and right, he shall live because of it. 20 Yet you say, (W)‘The way of the Lord is not [g]fair.’ O house of Israel, I will judge every one of you according to his own ways.”
The Fall of Jerusalem
21 And it came to pass in the twelfth year (X)of our captivity, in the tenth month, on the fifth day of the month, (Y)that one who had escaped from Jerusalem came to me and said, (Z)“The city has been [h]captured!”
22 Now (AA)the hand of the Lord had been upon me the evening before the man came who had escaped. And He had (AB)opened my mouth; so when he came to me in the morning, my mouth was opened, and I was no longer mute.
The Cause of Judah’s Ruin
23 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: 24 “Son of man, (AC)they who inhabit those (AD)ruins in the land of Israel are saying, (AE)‘Abraham was only one, and he inherited the land. (AF)But we are many; the land has been given to us as a (AG)possession.’
25 “Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God: (AH)“You eat meat with blood, you (AI)lift up your eyes toward your idols, and (AJ)shed blood. Should you then possess the (AK)land? 26 You rely on your sword, you commit abominations, and you (AL)defile one another’s wives. Should you then possess the land?” ’
27 “Say thus to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “As I live, surely (AM)those who are in the ruins shall fall by the sword, and the one who is in the open field (AN)I will give to the beasts to be devoured, and those who are in the strongholds and (AO)caves shall die of the pestilence. 28 (AP)For I will make the land most desolate, [i]her (AQ)arrogant strength shall cease, and (AR)the mountains of Israel shall be so desolate that no one will pass through. 29 Then they shall know that I am the Lord, when I have made the land most desolate because of all their abominations which they have committed.” ’
Hearing and Not Doing
30 “As for you, son of man, the children of your people are talking about you beside the walls and in the doors of the houses; and they (AS)speak to one another, everyone saying to his brother, ‘Please come and hear what the word is that comes from the Lord.’ 31 So (AT)they come to you as people do, they (AU)sit before you as My people, and they (AV)hear your words, but they do not do them; (AW)for with their mouth they show much love, but (AX)their hearts pursue their own gain. 32 Indeed you are to them as a very lovely song of one who has a pleasant voice and can play well on an instrument; for they hear your words, but they do (AY)not do them. 33 (AZ)And when this comes to pass—surely it will come—then (BA)they will know that a prophet has been among them.”
