Јеремија и Пашхур
20 Када је свештеник Пашхур син Имеров, главни управитељ Дома ГОСПОДЊЕГ, чуо Јеремију како пророкује о овоме, 2 нареди да Јеремију избатинају и баце у кладе код Венијаминове горње капије поред Дома ГОСПОДЊЕГ.
3 Сутрадан, када га је Пашхур ослободио клада, Јеремија му рече: »ГОСПОД те више не зове Пашхур, него Магор-Мисавив[a]. 4 Јер, овако каже ГОСПОД: ‚Учинићу да будеш ужас себи и свим својим пријатељима. Својим очима ћеш гледати како падају од мача својих непријатеља. Све Јудеје ћу предати у руке цару Вавилона, који ће их одвести у Вавилон или их погубити мачем. 5 Предаћу њиховим непријатељима све богатство овога града, све плодове његовог труда, све његове драгоцености и све благо царева Јуде. Они ће све то опљачкати и однети у Вавилон као плен. 6 А ти, Пашхуре, и сви који живе у твојој кући, отићи ћеш у изгнанство у Вавилон и тамо умрети и бити сахрањен, ти и сви твоји пријатељи којима си пророковао лажи.‘«

7 Ти ме заведе, ГОСПОДЕ,
и био сам заведен.
Ти ме надјача и савлада.
Поваздан ме исмевају,
сви ми се ругају.
8 Кад год проговорим, вичем,
насиље и пропаст објављујући.
Тако ми реч ГОСПОДЊА
поваздан увреде и грдње доноси.
9 А кажем ли: »Нећу га више помињати
ни говорити у његово име«,
његова реч ми у срцу буде као огањ,
огањ запретан у мојим костима,
и онда не могу више у себи да је држим,
не могу.
10 Чујем многе како шапућу:
»Ужас одасвуд! Пријавите га!
Дај да га пријавимо!«
Сви моји пријатељи
чекају да поклекнем:
»Можда га заварамо,
па га савладамо и осветимо му се.«
11 Али ГОСПОД је са мном као страшан ратник,
па ће моји гонитељи посрнути
и неће ме савладати.
Неће успети и докраја ће се осрамотити;
њихова срамота никад се неће заборавити.
12 ГОСПОДЕ над војскама, ти који испитујеш праведне
и видиш срце и ум,
дај да видим како им се светиш,
јер теби сам поверио своју парницу.
13 Певајте ГОСПОДУ! Хвалите ГОСПОДА!
Он живот убогога избавља
из руку опаких.
14 Проклет био дан кад сам се родио!
Благословен не био дан кад ме мајка родила!
15 Проклет био човек
који мом оцу донесе вест говорећи:
»Мушко ти се дете родило!«
16 Био тај као градови
које ГОСПОД поруши без милости,
ујутро слушао кукњаву,
а у подне бојне покличе,
17 јер ме не уби у мајчиној утроби,
да ми мајка буде гроб,
да јој утроба буде трудна довека.
18 Што изађох из мајчине утробе,
да муку и невољу гледам
и своје дане скончам у срамоти?

Jeremiah Persecuted by Pashhur
20 Now (A)Pashhur the priest, the son of (B)Immer, who was (C)chief officer in the house of the Lord, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things. 2 Then (D)Pashhur beat Jeremiah the prophet, and put him (E)in the stocks that were in the upper (F)Benjamin Gate of the house of the Lord. 3 The next day, when (G)Pashhur released Jeremiah from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him, “The Lord does not call your name (H)Pashhur, but Terror on Every Side. 4 For thus says the Lord: Behold, I will make you (I)a terror to yourself and to all your friends. They shall fall by the sword of their enemies while you look on. And I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon. He shall carry them captive to Babylon, and shall strike them down with the sword. 5 Moreover, (J)I will give all the wealth of the city, all its gains, all its (K)prized belongings, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah into the hand of their enemies, who shall plunder them and seize them and carry them to Babylon. 6 And you, (L)Pashhur, and all who dwell in your house, shall go into captivity. To Babylon you shall go, and there you shall die, and there you shall be buried, you and all your friends, (M)to whom you have prophesied falsely.”
7 O Lord, (N)you have deceived me,
and I was deceived;
(O)you are stronger than I,
and you have prevailed.
(P)I have become a laughingstock all the day;
everyone mocks me.
8 For whenever I speak, I cry out,
I shout, (Q)“Violence and destruction!”
For (R)the word of the Lord has become for me
(S)a reproach and (T)derision all day long.
9 If I say, “I will not mention him,
or speak any more in his name,”
(U)there is in my heart as it were a burning fire
shut up in my bones,
and (V)I am weary with holding it in,
and I cannot.
10 (W)For I hear many whispering.
(X)Terror is on every side!
“Denounce him! (Y)Let us denounce him!”
say all my (Z)close friends,
(AA)watching for (AB)my fall.
“Perhaps he will be deceived;
then (AC)we can overcome him
and take our revenge on him.”
11 But (AD)the Lord is with me as a dread warrior;
therefore my persecutors will stumble;
(AE)they will not overcome me.
(AF)They will be greatly shamed,
for they will not succeed.
Their (AG)eternal dishonor
will never be forgotten.
12 O Lord of hosts, who tests the righteous,
(AH)who sees the heart and the mind,[a]
let me see your vengeance upon them,
for to you have I committed my cause.
13 (AI)Sing to the Lord;
praise the Lord!
For he has delivered the life of the needy
from the hand of evildoers.
14 (AJ)Cursed be the day
on which I was born!
The day when my mother bore me,
let it not be blessed!
15 Cursed be the man who brought the news to my father,
“A son is born to you,”
(AK)making him very glad.
16 Let that man be like (AL)the cities
that the Lord overthrew without pity;
(AM)let him hear a cry in the morning
and an alarm at noon,
17 (AN)because he did not kill me in the womb;
so my mother would have been my grave,
and her womb forever great.
18 (AO)Why did I come out from the womb
(AP)to see toil and sorrow,
and spend my days in shame?
